Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Artyjoe - i've been reading about the who raspberry leaf thing a lot recently and a couple of people have said that it can also assist in a faster recovery after birth. Obviously i have no personal experience to back that, but it's what i've read. In fact i read this thing about a midwife who drank it just to keep a mum company for a few days.. She said that her period was due in the days following and it was the easiest one she'd ever had! And now recommends it for women who have painful periods too!

Fufmum - I've read that the pineapple thing is supposed to work as a "bring it on" type thing.. But very mild. If you live on it for days it can apparently have the same effect as castor oil, but nowhere near as violent. It's more of a preparation one.

I've been looking through all the remedies and things to consider for a good labour/ recovery and to hopefully prevent going overdue. And now i have the craziest list at my house of what i've covered...

Perinium - check!
cervix - check!
Uterus...

smellymelly · 10/12/2004 20:06

I've been eating pineapple for 3 weeks and I haven't had them yet! Bloody expensive at this time of year....It does have to be fresh, I think fresh juice is good to, if you can find it. I only heard about it this time around though, never knew with my 2 last pregnancies.

I have been having lots of tightenings so maybe it is helping, it would be great if I went in to be induced on Tues and they said I was already 4 cm dilated!!

Fufmum, what a lovely day you have had, what a nice boss. I hope you feel thoroughly spoilt!

fufmum · 12/12/2004 16:05

Hi well i got spoiled again today, went out for lunch with a few friends to say goodbye before going home on saturday. For my xmas present off one friend she had done me 'care box'! Init there were things i will need before and after birth, this is what she put in it.....

Just popping in from the Dec thread to wish Smellymelly good luck with her induction tomorrow. That is unless things have happened already. Hope it goes well!

fufmum · 13/12/2004 10:59

This is my last chance to wish you luck smellymelly for tomorrow as i am at the hospital all morning tomorrow. So GOOD LUCK and can't wait to hear about your 2 angels when you get a chance to come on MN and let us know the story!

I am so excited for you and can't believe it will be me in the next 5 weeks sometime hopefully, i am scared to death now as it gets nearer but i am so uncomfortable at nights i am looking forward to my DS being here and in my arms!

Wishing you all the best and an easy birth, luv fufmum xx

OP posts:
artyjoe · 13/12/2004 11:22

I'm seconding the easy birth SM, Good luck, we'll all be looking to you for reassurance!

I can't wait to get Faith out now, when I am sleeping it is always about labour now so I feel exhausted when I wake up. If it is not this week then it will be a c section so it will be a long week for me.

Loved the survival kit, you've obviously got some really great friends Fufmum.

take care - joe

Pollyanna · 13/12/2004 17:54

Good luck from me too Smellymelly - let us know how it all goes when you get a second (!)

smellymelly · 13/12/2004 19:33

Thanks very much everyone - roll on tomorrow!!

:o:o:o:o

fufmum · 14/12/2004 15:09

Hello everyone, how exciting to think SM is in hospital now and soon we will have our first baby story!!
Artyjoe any news yet on you and wether you are going to go to due date or not?
I had my last ante-natal today and it was ok, made me re-think about rushing into the hospital shouting for an epidural anyway! Not too keen on having forceps or ventrous(sp?)
I feel really good this week, lots of energy and sleeping better too. I think it's because i know i'm finishing work and will be home on saturday where i can relax and my DS can come anytime he like after that!
Hope the rest of you are ok, seems to have gone a bit quiet around here again.

OP posts:
artyjoe · 14/12/2004 20:21

Hi Fufmum

I've been quiet as it's all been another dramatic week Was in hospital again last tuesday, today MW said i've got a plus protein again but have delayed until the morning rather than going to the actual labour ward as it's just diabolical, I got a second opinion so they say it was okay to wait.

I am now 35 weeks and am measuring 44 cms gonna be a HUGE baby me thinks...that's a 6 cm gain in just 7 days so she's on another growth spurt. She's also 3/5 engaged, but not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things.

The pelvic pain has really got excrutiating now but I'm assuming that's because she's engaging and it's causing more pressure...not sure I can even wait until 3rd Jan for a section at this rate.

Hey ho, it will all be worth it once she's born!

Glad you are feeling better, I wish I could sleep, am V jealous

Take care - Joe

tex111 · 16/12/2004 09:33

Just popping in to wish SM lots of luck!! Can't wait to read your birth story.

artyjoe · 16/12/2004 10:20

Hi guys

Well, even though bump has grown so much in just 7 days, apparently baby hasn't and is still weighing around 6.5 pounds. They have now said they will not do a cesar or induce but will do another scan on 5th Jan to ensure the baby isn't too big. I got the distinct feeling that they had just had their budgets given to them when I spoke to my consultant which has peed me off as he's the one who has terrified me about a vaginal birth and now is saying this is the way to go, even though, yet again, he mentioned the shoulder getting stuck and my losing a lot of blood...can't win.

I am now going to forget about the whole thing, continue taking raspberry leaf and just get on with it and enjoy Christmas. If she's not come by 1st Jan I'm drinking castor oil and having sex three times a day!

Thinking of you SM!

Pollyanna · 16/12/2004 19:04

Hi Artyjoe, sorry you are having such a rough time of it. I read your other thread too, and if it helps at all I agree with what some of the posters there said. it sounds to me as though your consultant is scaring you with no firm foundations for doing so. My bump was also over 6lb (estimated) at 34 weeks, so i am looking at producing a 9lbplus baby at 40 weeks and there is no suggestion of inducing or having a cs, even though I have a history of having my babies late. I can't see why they would think there was a problem unless you had a very small pelvis, gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia. (which you probably will have if they continue stressing you out). i have not heard of a cs being necessary on the basis of the mother's size before (although I'm no expert). I think shoulder dystocia (sp?) is rare too.

Also, it's worth remembering, that they can only guess what the baby weighs now, and could be way out. Perhaps you should get a second opinion - last week I saw a different doctor to the one who terrified me the week before and got a completely different picture. It was a huge relief. Also, maybe the midwife has a good idea of what is going on and can give a more balanced view?

I do wish that these doctors would consider the effect of what they say on their patients.

PocketTinsel · 16/12/2004 19:15

Artyjoe , sounds like you are having a really tough time. If baby is only 6.5 why are they worried about shoulder getting stuck? But then doctors have been know to be very wrong about these things so please try not to worry. (easier said than done i know). Oh and the whole 5ths thing is how far the baby has enganged. They start out with an abreiviation for Cephalic, which is head down, normally ceph or cp. Then as baby's head engages it goes 1/5 2/5 up to 5/5 which is locked and loaded so to speak!

I've been put on extra checks, midwfe if coming to my house to check bp and protein every two days. The doctor at the hospital thinks it's necessary as bp still hasn't settled properly, and they are still finding a little protein.

I wonder how smellymelly is?

Pollyanna · 16/12/2004 19:30

honestly, these last few weeks are just too stressful for words!! I thought I was in labour last night (just strong braxton hicks I think) and started shaking with fear - had to resort to my homeopathic remedies already! i'm not surprised all of our blood pressures are raised.

I hope the protein disappears soon - I saw a helpful doctor a couple of weeks ago when I had protein who said that it could be caused by other factors, such as a urine infection or contamination and not to worry too much (easier said than done I know). Aren't there other signs for pre-eclampsia too, like swelling fingers, and visual disturbances etc?

PocketTinsel · 16/12/2004 23:06

Pollyanna, Sorry i missed you earlier. I have had some of the other symtoms too visual disturbances and headaches. Plus i had it at the end with my son so that's why they are keeping close tabs.. I'm not letting it worry me too much tho, Baby is fine and still happily swimming! (for all the space he has!) If they tell me that i am going to have to deliver early cos of it, i think i may actually be a little releived! I feel like a whale now.. I am much huge-er this time round.

fufmum · 17/12/2004 11:18

Srry to hear about the silly doctors upsetting you joe, i agree that even if the baby is the size they think, that still isn't massive and not sure why they are mentioning c/s and shoulders getting stuck!?

Pollyanna know what you mean about scary, i thought i was maybe in labour on wed night, i had the strongest braxton hicks ever. I had just got out of the bath though and i think that's what set them off. My stomach was like a brick wall!!

It's my last day at work today woo hoo and i go home to Yorkshire tomorrow so not sure when i will be on MN next, will probably be next week when i have managed to unpack everything and got it into some order.

Have a good weekend ladies and come on SM we are dying to know what's happening!!

OP posts:
Sallie · 17/12/2004 11:19

...anyone heard from SM? Am off on holiday after today so won't be able to log on again till 4 Jan!

Pollyanna · 17/12/2004 14:02

I hope you feel better soon Pockettinsel and the symptoms do disappear. Have the doctors given you any advice on what to do? I know what you mean about hoping that the baby would have to come early though - I was sort of (but not really) hoping I would be diagnosed with gestational diabetes so I would be induced.

fufmum, lucky you finishing work - hope you get a chance to rest a bit, and pop in to let us know how you are getting on.

PocketTinsel · 18/12/2004 16:52

Every one is disapearing for christmas!!!

Well have a good one for all those who won't be around for a while..

SM?? Where are you? we all want to know whats happening!

Thanks Pollyanna, with any luck everything will just stop, no holding my breath tho.

Had a hospital appointment on thursday, they are still finding a little protien and my bp appearing to be on it's way down from a spike. So Doc there now wants me to be checked at home every 2/3 day, and now it's hospital check every week too. Don't know what i am supposed to do about my usual midwife checks! The doctor at the hospital seems to have taken some sort of charge of me :S . Was supposed to have a visit from a comunity midwife today, But no one has come. They are not from my team as i have moved out of their area so it was arranged through the hospital for area midwife where i am to come... But no one has... And i have no number to call to find out if i've been forgotten. Ho hum. i'm guessing that if she isn't here by six then she won't.

hana · 20/12/2004 11:40

no news from smelly? Hang in there girls - Jan isn't far away now!!!!!!

SnowmAngeliz · 20/12/2004 14:57

Still no news???????

Smelly we're waiting, (how inconsiderate not to post!!! )

artyjoe · 20/12/2004 19:16

How is everyone feeling today? bored? fat? frustrated? desperate for baby to come? Join the club!

Have settled on a home birth, regardless of consultant saying no, it's not his body so he can just P& off. Feel much better now and am actually getting excited, if a little hopeful thinking every kick/hicks may be a contraction

Three days to Christmas eve and it feels strange that I'm not scrambling around the shops but that I've got mum and DP doing it for me, feels very odd not having to queue for the turkey for 3 hours in M&S! I think I'm even likely to get away with not peeling the sprouts this year - yey.

I'm getting tens and birthing ball tomorrow just in case Faith comes early - please God!

Everyone else ready?

Pollyanna · 21/12/2004 11:11

Hi Artyjoe - I had a check up yesterday and the baby is no where near down (still up by my ribs). I know that second and subsequent babies can move down at the last moment, but still I had hoped the baby would be a bit down! So I have also decided just to enjoy christmas now, stop walking around so much (as it's obviously not having any effect other than making me tired!) and i'll start on the pineapple etc after Christmas. My sisters are helping me out this week with the other 3 and I am hoping to get a bit of a rest (11 people here on christmas day and boxing day!).

I have my bag ready though and have got a birthing ball and tens and a very cute outfit from baby gap!! (appparently sale starts tomorrow if you're interested!).

Joe I saw your thread about homebirths - good idea imo, you can always go into hospital if necessary, but I think a homebirth is by far the best option.

Hope you all have a good christmas.

PocketTinsel · 22/12/2004 00:22

hi all,
I am back after another night in hospital . Blood pressure, protein, headaches and even sickness this time . Feeling a lot better now tho and with a little gentle persuasion they have let me come home. Got given an extra scan today and baby, apparently, weighs about 7lbs already, with 3 1/2 weeks to go. I have extra amniotic fluid which explains why i am HUGE! Feeling a bit low but have too much to do to let it get on top of me... despite them telling me to do nothing! (How they can realisticly expect you to actually "do nothing" is beyond me!) I don't care about christmas... I JUST WANT MY BABY! . Dh is trained with the tens machine and all is ready to go, all i need is for baby to agree.
Sorry, post wasn't intended to become a rant . I guess i needed one more than i reaslised.

Glad to hear everyone is basiclly all set.

Still no news from smellymelly tho?
