Hi Dophus, know what you mean about Braxton Hicks taking your breath away, I don't get anywhere near as many as you but when I do I catch my breath...the MW says I need to learn to breathe through them as it will be the same in labour, so need to do that better.

Got my antenatal class again today, if I come away depressed then I'm not going again. I am convinced I'll give birth this month and my pychic best friends says it may be 18th December! Decorated our first real christmas tree last night so the house certainly feels magical, just the right environment for a baby called Faith

Anyone receiving their Maternity Allowance yet?

Joe

Schmozer · 02/12/2004 12:03

Have just come back from my growth scan and the news is not bad. Baby is the right size, but I do have reduced levels of amniotic fluid. It's not a huge problem at the moment, but I'm to have another scan in four weeks to check it hasn't got any worse and make sure the baby is still growing at the same rate.

The consultant has told me to give up work in a week (at 34 weeks) and rest as much as I can to try to get the levels back up. This is two weeks before I was planning to stop, but I have to say I'm relieved to be finishing earlier.

smellymelly · 02/12/2004 13:56

Don't worry too much Schmozer, I had this with twin 1 a few weeks back, when they scanned me 2 weeks later everything was fine, she has a little less fluid than twin 2, but they found a bigger pocket lower down.

I looked on the internet, and there is research resulting in a possible increase in fluid, if you drink lots of fluid yourself. Worth a try...

Dophus · 02/12/2004 14:52

My concern is getting the bump to turn. It has been breeched for the last two check ups (approx six weeks).

I know there's plenty of time to change (8 weeks) but although I get loads of kicks I don't get big turning movements. Surely as it gets bigger there'll be less time to turn anyway?

I've tried some of the crawling around but a bit sceptical as to whether this can really work?!

The thught of having to have a CSec horrifies me.

fufmum · 02/12/2004 17:54

Hi ladies!

I had a breast feeding class today and it really helped build my confidence back up after reading that god awful book by Gina Ford! I told the mw and she said to throw it away! She said more mums called the hospital in tears because of that book, i was shocked. so anyway feel better now knowing it wasn't just me!
Have one more ante-natal check and then i go home to yorkshire! YEY i can't wait!

Hi Dophus

My friend was in breech a week before the birth and she turned just in time...the C section was on the cards but not needed...so get on your hands and knees and think positive

Hi girls - hope everyone is doing ok. Its so hard to believe that we are nearly HERE. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was posting my BFP on the TTC boards !!!! Time has flown. Good luck to everyone !

Schmozer · 03/12/2004 09:48

Thanks, Smellymelly. I'm feeling much better about it all now I've had the scan as it wasn't as bad as it could have been. And baby is reassuring me by being very active.

I also had a quick Google and found similar advice, so it will be lots of lying on my left side and drinking as much water as possible for the next six weeks. Even more trips to the loo...!

Dophus · 03/12/2004 11:10

ARtyJoe -

I've been trying to crawl around but it makes my knees sore! I have my first appointment at Royal Surrey this afternoon - I hope it's OK after all the fuss re St Peters!

I have had a email from ST Peters giving me their recent statistics and outlining their recent changes. It was extremely positive (e.g 8 additional midwives; more than halved their induction rate; and halved their 'normal birth rate'). IF I had these a little earlier I wouldn';t have been so keen to change.

fufmum · 03/12/2004 11:27

Dophus i'm sure the baby will be fine, it's such a pain when you have more stuff to worry about. My midwife told me that lying on floor Legs underneath you, like kneeling, bent forwards to floor with head on a couple of pillows, hands under head. Try and do this for about 3 times a day for about 20 mins, let us know how it goes!

fufmum · 03/12/2004 12:29

Anyone getting Braxton hicks regularly now? I find i get them most when walking around or if i do something which gets my heart rate going.

My god can you believe how close we all are now?? This is gonna be the best christmas ever...... well till next christmas anyway!

OP posts:
Schmozer · 03/12/2004 14:48

Gosh yes, several times a day. The entire bump goes rock hard and very tight for a few moments. A most odd sensation. I find that if it happens when I'm standing up I have to bend over, especially if I need a wee!

XmasQuackers · 03/12/2004 20:30

Good luck Bigbird and smellymelly!!!!!!!!!! Thinking of you as it gets near!!!!!!!!!

PocketTasha · 03/12/2004 21:35

Hello every one, time really is flying, I now have six weeks left to go, but like a few other will be REALLY suprised if it isn't more like four!
lol, fufmum that position sounded complicated, are you sure you didn't get it from a pilates or advanced yoga book!

Dophus, my braxton hicks are just like yours too, i have athsma and the first time i got one i thought i was going to have an attack. They are pretty frequent but depends how active i am.. (Which really varies day to day
Has everyone got their bag packed?

fufmum · 04/12/2004 11:10

Pocketasha, sorry i must have explained it wrong then because it is very easy to do and very comfortable. Basically you kneel on floor and lay forwards with your head and hands on cushions!
No, i haven't packed my bag yet as i still have 2 weeks in London before i go home so not much point really. Will be one of the first things i do though when i get home.
I have 6 weeks to go to and i am finding it harder everyday to not get excited like a child waiting for xmas to come!! My boss is having a baby shower for me next week can't wait for that either, it will be one of the last times i get to be centre of attention for a long time!!

OP posts:
PocketTasha · 04/12/2004 22:18

fufmum, I packed mine early out of paranioa! But i keep thinking of other things that i want to put in it! I was really under prepared with ds, didn't actually have a bag with me when i went into labour cos i was already in hospital. So he spent his first hour in a hospital nappy and clothes, . I've been packing alsorts this time around.

artyjoe · 05/12/2004 14:03

Fufmum, a baby shower sounds fab! Wish someone would do one for me!

DP built the baby changer unit and stocked it up, along with the crib and mobile now ready...If she comes early there's nothing (I don't think) that I don't have ready... am even going to try a practice run at using the sterilising unit and making formula tonight! Got the Baby whisperer and some of the tips are great, am going to start sleeping with the crib blanket from this evening.

My feet look like Shreks at the mo which is a bit unnerving but hopefully perfectly normal...the piles has been a bit of a shock though Sad

Hope you are all well x

PocketTasha · 06/12/2004 01:40

Artyjoe. Sleeping with the crib blanket? I've never heard of that before? I guess the answer is obvious as to why but please tell me more. Where did you hear about it? Is it something eberyone knows and i'm just really dense Blush.
(sorry, mini interrogation! Grin)

smellymelly · 06/12/2004 07:47

PT - It is so the baby is calmed by his/her blanket as it smells of 'mummy'.

Another good one if you are breastfeeding, is to put a 'just' used breast pad in their crib. Make sure you change it often though!!

Dophus · 06/12/2004 11:39

Bag still not packed. I keep thinking of all the things I should take - I think I may need a suitcase!

We spent the weekend putting up wall paper borders (grrrrr) and furniture together for the bump. The nursery is looking very sweet, almost finished, it just needs some curtains, oh and a baby. Managed to completely bugger my back in the process and so I'm hobbling around today like a 90-year old.

Feeling a bit guilty, I look at various threads on here and they are full of mums feeling deprived of cheese etc. I think I will be a terrible mum it's already started badly - I went out for dinner last week and had:
carpaccio of beef to start
followed by scallops
with deep fried stilton to finish
Washed down with a couple of glasses of good red wine. Somthing tells me I'm not taking htinkgs seriously enough!!!

The good news was that the midwife (unlike the GP) doesn't think the baby is breeched and is starting to engage. I think I trust the GP more than the midwife.

fufmum · 06/12/2004 11:56

Ok i got the shock of my life last night.Shock
I was massaging my anti stretch mark cocoa butter onto tummy and boobs and i had milk come out (of my boobs not my tummyWink)it was the biggest shock i have had so far! I mean i knew it was in there and i have had pads ready for weeks but still it was soooooo weird! Just when i thought the pregnancy couldn't get any more realblo hell smile] As i am single i had no one to tell either, i was stuck in my bedroom, stunned alone!
I then went on to have dreams all night of going into labour, i am so worried i will before i get to be home with my mum and dad!
Anyone else had this shock yet?

OP posts:
fufmum · 06/12/2004 11:58

Sorry keyboard playing up, it was meant to say' just when i though the pregnancy couldn't get any more real, bloody hell Smile'

OP posts:
Dophus · 06/12/2004 12:03

My boobs started oozing a while back (maybe two months). I have become a little obsessed with them! My other half just makes low mooing noises when ever he passes by (something definitely to be said for being single!).

smellymelly · 06/12/2004 12:06

LOL Fufmum. The milk thing gets earlier every pregnancy, with me, I swear this time I could have started expressing at 12 weeks !! Shock

Dophus - I find everyone that feels your tummy will say a different postion for baby - personally they would never get to cut me open until thay had done a scan 30 seconds beforehand. It is the only sure way of knowing.

And yes it sounds like you are being very naughty!!!!Wink

BTW - Only 8 days to go for me!!!!!
