Hello all.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

So hope I'm early (or on time)... but so many friends of mine have been late with their first! I am surprised too that noone else has popped yet... but hopefully we'll still be able to get our last meet in!

preggersagain · 31/01/2008 10:02

pah early- you lot don't know the meaning !!! i am surprised we've only had three arrivals so far- but it is good that all of the lo's are staying put- i'd love a term baby- all squishy and cuddly- and fitting in newborn clothes mine are still in prem clothes- they were photographed by a prof friend yesterday so am eagerly awaiting the proofs- i'll stick them on my profile

Right do we have anyone on this board due on the 5th March, with family in Aberystwyth and who has just purchased a Loola travel system???? Just a question because when she came in yesterday she seemed to know a lot about me

Hope pregnancy is not getting you all down too much- believe me the piles now are nothing compared to the sore boobs and afterpains once you've had lo!! Anyone not having their first- stock up on heavy duty painkillers for the afterpains- it felt like i was in labour still for a week afterwards- i seriously told dh my insides were falling out first-timers you should get away pretty lightly on the afterpains- but make sure you have savoy cabage leaves for your boobs

e14mum · 31/01/2008 10:09

might be a lurker preggers... glad the girls are well!

Had my 32 week check this morning and baby is doing just fine

piggy - the meeting with the lollipop adviser yesterday was really helpful - it was really good to actually play with the nappies. You may want to try and see an adviser close to you - go to teamlollipop.co.uk for info. I was a little disappointed with the feel of Bumgenius, but they are definitely the most disposable like and convenient so we will probably end up with several of those. I really liked the Lollipop own brand, which are essentially the same as Totbots (shaped nappy with two velcro fasteners). The softee fleece one was particularly cuddly as was the bamboo, although the fleece one dries much much quicker than bamboo apparently. So although they require a wrap, I'm quite tempted by them as the only extra faff over disposables is that the wrap means you have a total of 4 tabs to fasten versus 2 on a disposable, plus they are just lovely and soft and cuddlable which disposables certainly aren't!

Gulp. Carseat and cot just arrived from JL. Unpacked the carseat and thought, OMG, there's going to be a little human in there soon.
35 weeks today. Gulp, again!

fitnforty · 31/01/2008 11:45

i tried the carseat out with my tiny tears doll...anyone know how a newborn fits in comparison to doll-size? Managed to make the straps bigger but haven't found out how to adjust them smaller yet!!!

Swimming was interesting last night, nice and boyant, but communal changing rooms are hell when you're surrounded by stick insects who have no probs bending down to put knickers and socks on!

derah · 31/01/2008 12:12

HQ - one slight possible hiccup to your nappy plans.... if you get both the nappy and the wrap with velcro it can make for a very thick and still waist, and might make movement difficult for LO later on. Just a thought......

Bored again at work... all the bosses are away so no-one is going much today. All I have to do now is transfer all my important electronic stuff to a shared folder and I'm ready to leave!

Hungry, need lunch. Ah, but I need to diet. Get this, ladies. I suffer from recurring bouts of a thing called erythema nodusum, which is basically just the fat cells under your skin getting inflamed and painful. I get huge great red lumps on my legs which are VERY painful, and get progressively more painful the more I'm on my feet as the day goes on. If I have lots of them and they're really bad, it gets to the point where I can't walk. Now, the docs have been trying to figure out what causes them for years, since they're not supposed to recur! Yeah, try telling them that! I recently worked out that they come up when my weight goes up, like it is now. I've had one or two lumps for a couple of months, which haven't been to bad and haven't bothered me. But now there are more arriving and the ones I've got are getting bigger and bigger. The only way to get rid of them is to a) lose weight or b) take a large dose of steriods. Neither of which I'm allowed to do at the moment! I've been using a weak hydrocortisone cream on them, which sometimes helps, but doesn't seem to be doing anything much this time. So, selecting the lesser of all evils, I need to go on a diet. I can't face the aches and pains of pregnancy plus crippling great red inflamed lumps on my legs.

Aaaargh!

derah · 31/01/2008 12:14

HQ, that was stiff waist, not still...

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 12:33

FnF- Just pull the strap at the bottom. That tightens it. Can't remember how big a tiny tears is, but average length of a newborn is about 20".
Derah...Sorry to hear about those lumps, they sound horrible. Think a friend of mine has the same thing. She gets them all around her feet, which makes shoes hideously uncomfortable. They've told her heavy dose steroids, diet, and keeping feet up. So at least is a good excuse to rest!

HolidaysQueen · 31/01/2008 13:00

Thanks derah - so would a poppered wrap with velcro nappy be a better idea? I guess when baby is little (and not moving about so much) then I can do double velcro to make it easier for DH and then as he gets used to it and baby needs to move up to bigger wraps i can switch to poppers. Does that sound like a plan?

HolidaysQueen · 31/01/2008 13:01

btw, derah - urgh on lumps/diet! poor you!

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 13:13

derah- I have been given some eenee nappy snibbs...have you ever come across these? Does anyone know if they work? They look like they'd be great for a prem baby, but not convinced on a bigger newborn as they tie in the front.

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 13:27

how cute are these!!!!

fitnforty · 31/01/2008 13:32

derah - re your lumps, try a kinesiologist, they're good for sorting all sorts of imbalances in the body.

turtle - thanks, will try that, thought you just pulled the bottom bit to make it looser, didn't realise it worked both ways!

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 13:33

fnf- If you pushed a button in to make it bigger, you should be able to pull the straight bit at the bottom to make it smaller!

apotomak · 31/01/2008 13:37

Turtle ... those are really cute. Anybody tried them?
Has anybody used Nature Babycare biodegradable nappies? I just got a packet of those as an alternative to cloth ones which I can't take to hospital with me. Somebody said they leak ... do they?

derah · 31/01/2008 13:37

Turtle - v. cute nappies. There's something similar from Australia, I forget the name. A great comno between cloth and disposbale.

HQ - poppers for the next stage of wraps is a good idea, especially since LO will discover how to open velcro at a depressingly early age and think it's a great game!

derah · 31/01/2008 13:40

Aargh, too much posting going on!

Apotomac - we've used Nature Babycare nappies here and there, and never had any trouble with them. Their wipes, disposable bibs and even panty liners are all great too!!

Turtle - sorry, no idea what an Enee baby snib is. Maybe preggers will have an idea....

derah · 31/01/2008 13:41

FnF - a what? Is that something the NHS would cover cos no way would DH ever agree to coughing up money for alternative therapies (and I would tend to agree with him).

HolidaysQueen · 31/01/2008 13:41

apotomak - a friend has had both her children in Nature all along and they've been just fine - never been tempted to switch to pampers/huggies et al

JFly · 31/01/2008 13:55

Think I posted somewhere about finding gdiapers and that they're based on the Australian brand Weenees, which are available in the UK. I may get a sample pack to try.

JFly · 31/01/2008 14:01

Turtle - is this what you were given? Although, they seem to make another similar product. So confusing!

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 14:10

Jfly- yes, but they don't seem to work as neatly as that. The girl who gave them to me said they were fab for her LO, but I think hers weighed 5.5 at birth. I am thinking my fat baby weighs nearly that now. Will experiment a bit more, but if I dont get on with them will happily pass them on to one of you.

turtle23 · 31/01/2008 14:16

Jfly- it's the one underneath the pouch snibb on that website. Just a wrap, apparently very good for little babies. Hmm.

MarchMum · 31/01/2008 14:23

sorry to interrupt the poop fest (i bought bamboo lollipops - no idea if they are the right ones but they are sitting in my closet! did i read correctly that i have to wash them six times before using ton increase absorbancy?) but...

was just thinking (reread our posts in early jan re:showers) that we should make the next meet up our March Mum's Shower (for the ex pats who are missing it and the Brits who are curious). I'm thinking low key but everyone can bring a little something to share/pass on/reuse, etc and then we can each have a little present? Of course it will involve cakes.

three questions-
-are people game?
-did we decide feb 22 weekend was best?
-what general location is best?
