Hello all.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ah, the joys of rolling out of bed!
Went to NCT class on Saturday. DH's favorite part was the handout called "What's in a nappy"- he says he's going to take it to work and put it up on the noticeboard! (DH works with a lot of trendy childless people who would probably find this very amusing)Why do all new parents find themselves telling people all about their newborn's bowel functions? Are we doomed to be like this too??

turtle23 · 28/01/2008 14:02

Just inflated birth pool for trial run. Thank you very much Tori, you are a superstar! It is lovely seeing it up and just hoping I get the opportunity to see it inflated again!! Is it just me or are these last couple of months the looooooongest ever? I am too excited to wait anymore.

Paranoid1stTimer · 28/01/2008 14:12

JFly thanks for posting your concerns on the childbirth thread!!! Apart from the fact that I have been having BH, my situation was almost identical to yours. I haven't had any further scary "contraction" type episodes and am trying to take it easy but my DH is so messy it is a nightmare trying to keep the place tidy without being somewhat "on the go".

Anyway, I never even thought to post on the childbirth thread so good idea and calming advice.

e14mum yes - my bezzie mate was saying how her and her other mum friends are obsessed with nappy contents and she says they all want more detail from the day nursery their babies spend their morning pooping time at when they get the fact sheets home with them to say how many times the nappy was changed and whether it was just wet... or otherwise!!! Ha ha! We'll prob be just like them!!! Ewwwww

hi all, had a thyroid consult today, with obstetrician also there. she was marvellous, but clearly furious with lack of previous test reults (wee, blood, all sorts) and poor antenatal care. Told her about indy MW and possible homebirth if i stay low risk. So she had me hop up for a feel of baby. It was good news, and oh my god news...

good news: fab position
ohmygod news: baby is felt to be large++.

get sent up stairs for ultrasound, yup, its a giganto baby but only top of normal range, not out of range. He's already nearly 7lb est weight, expecting to reach maybe 81/2 or 9lbs depending how long i go. There's a turn up for the books, ds1 was only 6lb 13oz.

Go back to see consult and i am persuaded to take take GTT test tomorrow am so I can be signed off as low risk, if lucky. Honestly, sucha lot of NHS time, when I was a big baby, and dp and his brother were truly HUGE (heading past 10lbs)

Am strangely not worried at all by likelihood of larger kid, think because the head circumference of ds1 and this one is actually the same anyway, and that's the critical bit. ALso because I will have 1-2 hours to discuss it all with my own midwife on wednesday pm...phew.

paranoid I figured someone out there would have an idea of what it would be. And they did! Anyway, the responses did put my mind to rest and it's great that people aren't dismissive (even if they roll their eyes at us in secrecy!). And I think lots of people keep an eye out for the Childbirth threads, as they're often quite exciting!

And I know what you mean about DH. I keep telling him that I shouldn't do half the stuff I'm doing and he says "so don't do it." Problem being it wouldn't get done otherwise, so I end up overexerting myself. It's frustrating! Well, I've decided I'll try to rope the cleaner into helping me sort/clear rooms so that we make some progress. I will throw money at problems at this point!

preggersagain · 28/01/2008 14:33

mb- thats bigger than either of my two atm !!

tori32 · 28/01/2008 14:38

Ah ... big babies! dd was my first and weighed in at 9lb 12oz so I hope this one doesn't out do her!!
Turtle so glad the pool is ok, I thought it should be, but anything can happen in storage IYSWIM.

Tried out my new braces today, massive difference to walking!!

preggersagain · 28/01/2008 14:43

my eyes are seriously watering at the thought of those big babies!! Good luck ladies

hunofmonsters · 28/01/2008 14:48

already 7lbs???

How many weeks are you?

DC3 is currently 4lb and if it follows the lines DS1 and 2 made it will be another over 8lber

fitnforty · 28/01/2008 15:18

ouch, are they sure that's the actual baby weight and not just excess amniotic fluid? a friend was told last year to expect a 10+lber, but he was born at 7-8ish, she was just excessively large due to the fluid.

fingers crossed for you!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 28/01/2008 15:26

Merryberry just remember it is the head being born that hurts most and when you put on weight you buy new knickers not a new hat.

preggersagain · 28/01/2008 15:27

lol

merryberry · 28/01/2008 16:44

rofl at knickers idea.

nope it is the baby, head and abdomen right at top of scale of measurements, normal amnio and placenta.

just had a snooze as I was trying to post to the weekend posts but had no internet connection. but all i can say having read everything is that i am now lumbered with enduring image of PG lady getting jiggy with DH while both wear braces...

marchmum how did you find the doulas? hunofmonsters i'm 35+2 today.

have been looking at birth pools too. very tempted by the sort you can treat as a jacuzzi for the weeks leading up to the birth! will wait til i've spoken to MW and get GTT results before splashing (hur, hur) out.

e14mum · 28/01/2008 16:47

Head-dread over here...

Probably a dumb question, but can they really tell how big it is by feeling it?

merryberry · 28/01/2008 17:17

yes the obs could measure and feel it was large. On measurement my fundal height is close to 40 weeks or summat and on feeling well she palpates and she can feel a large head and body and long limbs. Then I got sent for growth scan at ultrasound where they measure these things formally and plot you again some standard deviating curves. Young man is right at top of curve, 97th centile head, 100th abdomen.

And I saw his face as a bonus I can't wait to meet him, he looks different to DS1!

Have now added work to do in the hypnotherapy CDs...will have to imagine self opening like a bloody LARGE flower.

HolidaysQueen · 28/01/2008 18:17

Generally quite scared about size of baby and want a nice dinky 7lber

feedmenow · 28/01/2008 18:18

Just want to say though ladies, that it is certainly not an exact science when it somes to estimating the baby's weight. I was told dd was big after a "large" fundal measurement and scan. They gave me an estimated weight at the time of the scan which could have easily had her at 9-10lb at birth, but she turned out to be 7lb 8oz.

merryberry · 28/01/2008 19:19

I hug, want to marry and generally worship feedmenow, thank you for that

HQ, to me that sounds like the last month of soft ligaments around the pelvis giving you classic pelvis grind, achy-rubbing etc. The number 2 joy of late PG after sheer bulk, IME.

I get it at times occassionally with a stabby pain along with it if I'm not careful. Not sure if classed as SPD? I find I already have to make like an etiquette school wannabe at all times (knees together on rising, turning) and really ration how much I can do/walk/stand in a day in order to avoid starting it all off.

gingercat12 · 28/01/2008 19:26

Merryberry I was also told LO is 'fair size already', but in our NHS trust it does not warrant an ultrasound. I would love to see bubba now [big teardrops] The MW seemed quite relaxed about it all, and I do not think it'll get mentioned again. Let us add I am supposed to get the best available antenatal care in this country...

fitnforty · 28/01/2008 21:09

HQ, sounds like what i've had since pre xmas, m/w said not SPD as it didn't hurt on the pressure points she tried. However, since i was lying down at the time and it mainly hurts when i stand up i didn't see the relevance I'm fine while i'm walking about, but it hurts once i stop and then i seize up. Mind you, resting with my feet up works wonders

Merry just remember in the hypno stuff it says your baby is the perfect size for your body. Failing that, try the huge water-lily, or one of those weird plants that only flower every 6m years and then die . They should be big enough!

Cardiologist was fun, not...arrived early and got seen 10 mins early for the appointment, but got rushed round between having ECG, blood pressure and consultation. BP shot up probably as a result of having an ECG and having to get my baps out while that was going on - apparently i was the first preggers person to question if it was safe or not. Luckily LO is still kicking away so hopefully no harm done there. They reckon it's just pregnancy enhanced irregular heartbeats, but i'll have to go back in a week or so for a cardiac monitoring. Consultant only wants to see the results and not me as he doesn't think there'll be anything to see me about so sounds ok but just covering their bases.
Bit of a bugger if it clashes with my arrangements for first few days off on mat leave though! Hope their waiting list is long enough to push me down in priority a bit.

spugs · 28/01/2008 21:37

i have no idea how big this one is, im measuring bang on for dates though and with my last 2 i was always a week or so behind (they were 6lb9 and 7lb 5) dont think this one will be huge but reckon it will be bigger then the last one

today i have bought a bigger car only to discover its as much of a bugger to get car seats to fit as the one im getting shot of! its an 04 vauxhaull zafira. i was going to get the caribo seat with the isofix thing but not sure if it will fit. the web site says that the isofix thing does but doesnt know about the car seat !!!! any one have any idea?

fitnforty · 28/01/2008 21:46

spugs, does it def have the isofix fitted? Vauxhalls didn't fit them as standard until a couple of years ago I think, I've got an 05 Astra which doesn't have them. Just ended up with bog standard maxi cosi cabriofix with the non isofix base. Seemed just as easy to fit as faffing about with the isofix!

weeamoomoo · 28/01/2008 23:03

HQ its def SPD. commonly known as "a sore fanny"... midwife advice is to keep your legs together as much as possible (better late than never...) small steps, gettin in and out car (think "royalty") knees together turning over in bed, gettin out of bed. generally as much rest as poss. ive also got a giant tubi grip i wear for support (lovely)

MarchMum · 28/01/2008 23:19

legs together? my knees haven't met eachother in awhile, and I have completely lost any resemblance of royalty. now sit anywhere with my knees wide apart! am trying to do thatoptimal fetal positioning thingy - engage baby engage!

interviewed three doulas this weekend and found one we really like. i called her tonight to hire her and it was like asking for a date - she said 'i was hoping you'd ask!'. still planning on water birth at hospital but glad we have coach sorted to make whole situation less scary/more consistent.

am with turtle on the sex! ime :.) a good perineal massage session usually gets both parties interested!

this was awhile back but wanted to throw my weird dream into the mix -- dreamt my baby girl was born with a penis. ack.

to all my BH buddies, hang in there. had such a bad session last night, was on living room floor moaning - a taste of labour!

MarchMum · 28/01/2008 23:20

ps was feeling all chuffed when people tell me i look great but has just occured to me they are lying. think this bc i am pretty sure i told pg people they looked good when they didn't. hmmm....
