Well done buckets

warthog · 17/01/2008 10:44

i really hope it's not carpal tunnel! i'm a musician - i'll be destroyed if anything happens to my hands.

glad to hear it stopped after pregnancy fogleg.

buckets, at night of passion. we're still living in a one bedroomed flat, dd sleeping with us, while we wait for our house to be renovated. serious damper on our sex life! it's amazing that this soon-to-be-dc was conceived at all!

warthog · 17/01/2008 10:47

oh yes, don't worry too much about going off meat. apparently if you eat it more than 3 times a week you increase risk of dc developing allergies and asthma!

PennyBenjamin · 17/01/2008 10:56

Booking in appointment last night, which went really well, and I got a scan which I really didn't expect!

I know I'm preaching to the converted, as some of you have already had scans, but Oh My God, it was so exciting. To see this little person in there, and see its heart beating away. It makes it all far more real.

Anyway, according to the measurement, they think I'm a bit further on than I thought, probably 8+3 today.

CaptainCaveman · 17/01/2008 11:06

OOOh PB, how exciting!! It's so magical to see that little bean for the first time

I phoned the hospital just now and they've booked me in for 24th Jan at 11am eeeeeeeeeekkkk, thats only a week tomorrow . Spoke to a lovely lady - she said don't worry if it's too early to scan properly, we'll just bring you back again a few days later. Wow how good was that!! I should be 10+6 then so may be 1 day too early - who knows?

My mw won't do the blood test for downs as due to my age it will come back as high risk anyway - hence they refer you for a scan instead, if you wish to have one.

I'm still in my pjs - just about to get in the shower, honest!! I watched 10 minutes of jeremy Kyle, just to make myself feel better about life, then have studied for last hour and a half. I've decided to go on a clothes mission this afternoon - I only have one pair of jeans that I can get into!!

Or a week today even!

Oh, and by the way, I am now really looking forward to actually having a bump and looking pregnant - this morning I felt so bad on the tube that I went green, started sweating and had to sit on the floor of the carriage with my head between my knees, retching.

No-one offered me a seat.

Buckets · 17/01/2008 11:56

PennyB lucky you being further on than you thought! Don't envy your tube travel with ms though. Maybe you should carry a freezer bag around in case you need to be sick somewhere awkward like that.

Buckets · 17/01/2008 12:02

Captaincaveman - did you just ring up because you hadn't heard anything? Not sure if I should chase up mine but I don't really know who to ring.

warthog · 17/01/2008 12:21

how lovely to get a scan!

cc, sorry to ask such a crass question, but how old are you that you have to have a scan for downs?

warthog · 17/01/2008 12:23

oh pennyb, it's DISGUSTING that no-one offered you a seat. what is the world coming to?

mind you, when i had a cast on my leg, i had someone kick it while trying to grab a seat. no apology, despite the obvious discomfort they had caused me!

CaptainCaveman · 17/01/2008 12:26

Thats fine Warthog - I am 34 atm and will be 35 next month. Still only feel about 22 in my head though!!

Buckets - there are 2 hospitals in NOttingham. One the mw has to do the referral and the other one, if you are having the nuchal scan, you ring up yourself (after being advised to by the mw).

It's not so bad this 'old age' lark . I have 2 friends who are pg and a little younger than me, and they get the normal mw led care, which meant they both had to wait for a letter from the hospital giving them a date for their scans. I feel very lucky to have such a personal service.

right, got to go and eat - then shop! x

I know, I was pretty annoyed, but I tried to remind myself what travelling on the tube is like for anyone - mostly people (and I include myself) just want to keep their heads down and get to work. I'm sure people probably thought I was hungover!

Going to get myself a big label which says "I'm not drunk, it's morning sickness!"

And I think I should start carrying sick bags - I've never actually been sick before, just nausea, but today was bad, and when I changed tubes I was actually sick on the platform . An nice LU man offered me a glass of water!

duchesse · 17/01/2008 12:35

Sorry for crahing in- saw the thread in the active convos-

Don't want to disappoint you , but I commuted Clapham to Bracknell (about 30 miles/ 45 minutes) for 8.5 months of pregnancy. I can still distinctly remember the dead eyed bastards trying hard to avoid seeing the very large and obviously pregnant tummy swaying at eye level to them every single bloody afternoon for months. Was only given a seat once in that time... bastards

PennyBenjamin · 17/01/2008 12:45

I always, always, always give my seat to pregnant women and old people - in fact, since I've been PG I've given my seat up to people who were more pregnant than me!

Is it just me, or is it usually women who give their seat up to pregnant women? I don't know whether men just think we're putting it on, but honestly, if they could know how it feels, they'd be out of that seat in an instant!

Well, they'll be sorry when I vomit all over their lap!

Buckets · 17/01/2008 12:58

Actually PB they probably though 'Norovirus arrgh!' . I would have given you my seat and squeezed up to the other end of the carriage LOL.

warthog · 17/01/2008 13:01

cc - i'm older than you! no-one's mentioned the down's test to me... i'll have to ask.

i also give up my seat quite happily. only once did i get a seat when i was pregnant and that's because my dh said very loudly 'i'm sure someone will stand up for you, since you're feeling so sick'.

but i was on the train when the man next to me offered his seat to a pregnant-looking woman who turned out not to be and was very offended!

miamla · 17/01/2008 13:37

to those travelling in London.. try asking at the ticket office for a "baby on board" badge.(i've not managed to get one yet as apparently they're in short supply but i haven't given up!) i suspect people don't offer up their seats in case they get it wrong and the woman is fat not pregnant. saying that though i had to use a walking stick for a couple of years and 9/10times i stood in the middle of the carriage asking "is there anyone here who needs their seat less than me?" it usually got me a seat after a while of everyone looking at each other guiltily to see who would give in and move!

is there an easy way to work out how far gone we are? i'm in awe of others who seem to know to the day! i'm not even sure what week i am!

i know its mean but i'm smugly reading posts by people describing how i felt a couple of weeks ago with exhaustion etc. Trust me girls, there is light at the end. i've had a surge of energy this week (due 1 Aug)

oh, and just want to add, i think its magical that there's this whole group of us now, sharing all that there is to know. so i just want to thank everyone who's posted, you've all helped me along my pregnancy route

you're all lovely x x

alicet · 17/01/2008 14:13

miamla - got your message on the Oct Postnatal thread! CAT means basically clicking on the little envelope icon that comes up in the blue bar with your user name when you leave a message - if the person has chosen to receive messages in this way then mumsnet forwards it to them. Anyway I got the message so no matter! Unfortunately I have already offloaded the bras so sorry about that. But good luck for the rest of your pregnancy! And to the rest of you....x

poppysocks · 17/01/2008 14:44

Grrr. Have been trying to get through to the hospital to check that they've received my Dr's referral and if I've got a scan date yet. Keep getting the answer phone. So frustrated!

When I was pg with DD I was offered a seat on the tube, but I wasn't that far gone. It was the last day I managed to squeeze into my suit and although there was a bit of bump I wasn't in maternity wear at all and wished it was more obvious. I was just so chuffed when a kind lady offered me her seat.

stickybean · 17/01/2008 14:45

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on for a little while, well actually that's a lie, i have been lurking

I went for a scan this morning, i'm a couple of days further on than they thought i was last time i went (3 weeks ago)
8+5 due 23rd Aug.

Was so exciting, it actually looked like something this time rather than a black dot. Saw the heartbeat and saw it wriggling around. Feel so happy.

As for the tube, people are soooooo rude, although i did get offered a seat once and i wasn't pregnant...and i look it!!! In my defence, i am actually quite small i was just wearing a very puffy coat with a bag strap pulled across me, as i was quite confident i didn't look pregnant with my coat off i just took it without being upset

Hope everyone is feeling great.

Stickybean

poppysocks · 17/01/2008 15:03

Great news stickybean. So glad all is well.

Ok. Just heard back from hospital. Seems they have a weirdly large number of babies due in August (that'll make delivery fun, especially as I'm sure there will be lots of midwives etc. on holiday then too...) and won't be able to scan me until at least 13 weeks. I'll be wearing a tent by then if the bump continues developing at this pace! Think we'll go for the private scan just to check that I'm not imagining all of this, so that we can get on and tell people as I'm sure some of my colleagues have rumbled me already.

TwilightSurfer · 17/01/2008 15:23

Well all the schools in my area are closed today...and it's ONLY RAINING. Last night a really nice snowfall started about 7PM. DD played for an hour in it. By 2AM I could hear the rain beating down of the roof. We just don't get the really really nice wintery stuff.

Nice to read about all your booking in appointments. Finally!!

I don't have opportunity to take public transportation but can imagine it to be hard when you're pregnant. I wouldn't hesitate to offer my seat but I would feel bad if I offended someone...because they weren't pregnant. It's so hard to tell sometimes. You want to be nice/friendly and ask about the newborn on the way but then EECCKK you've gone an insulted someone with a thyroid condition. I guess sadly some folks just find it easier to ignore the situation all together.

Poppysocks I too will be wearing a tent by 13 weeks. My belly just keeps growing and growing and growing. Will it ever stop?

Shazza2002 · 17/01/2008 16:02

Afternoon ladies.

Just checking in so you all know I am thinking of you all. I have been trying to read all the posts, but I work in accounts and it's our yearend, so January is the month I really earn my money

I am still feeling nervous as it seems we all are. I just keep expecting to go the scan next week and there not being anything there. Sometimes I wish I could go back to when I was PG with my DD, I didn't know half of what I do now, was really niaeve I suppose. But what is it they say about ignorance being bliss

Have a good afternoon lovely ladies

warthog · 17/01/2008 16:54

i was hoping to put dd in play school a couple of mornings a week, which will give me a rest while i'm pregnant but there's an 18 month waiting list! any tips for how to get her in sooner? is there some unspoken rule? or is there nothing i can do?
