sarahnh · 22/01/2008 12:28

well i think i am maybe having a boy, i just feel different from the last time if you know what i mean!! My dh is convinced that it is a girl and says he would like another girl becasue at least he knows what to expect!!! I don't care so long as its healthy

Re names my dd is called Emma May and i really don't think i will be able to match that, every name i think of just doesn't have the same ring as her name!! Anyone else feel like they got the best name first time?? Or am i just being a silly billy?!!xxx

TwilightSurfer · 22/01/2008 12:39

Oooo baby names!!! Since I don't really need baby stuff all I've been focused on is baby names so I have lots to share.

DD's name is Kinsley Grayson. We decided on that just one month before she arrived. I had my heart set on Emory Kate but DH just didn't like it. Most of that pregnancy we just called her LuLu...which I was fine with calling her too.

I too had picked out a name but was beaten to the punch. My late mother's name is Claudia....my brother's last born arrived six months before Kinsley so I lost that one and sorta let him know I wasn't happy about it.

This time I am really doing my homework.
BOY: Fischer, Preston, Sawyer, Braxton, Ace, Barrett, Finnis, Jager, Jagger, Luke, Owen, Sullivan, Rowdy

GIRL: Lauren, Tallulah, Charlie, Baylor, Berkley, Blakely, Bristol, Bronte, Emory, Falon, Jane, Presley, Roxy, Pixie, Sadie, Elliot

Captain glad I could toss out a word that was useful.

Buckets · 22/01/2008 13:05

TS sure you'll go off Braxton nearer the end of your pregnancy LOL. And don't know if you know by the way but Bristols are cockney rhyming slang for boobs.

My bump will be Kurt if it's a boy - the only boys' name that DH and I agree on. Girls' shortlist is: Heidi, Nancy, Beatrix and ...Nico if she looks tough enough.

Shazza2002 · 22/01/2008 13:14

Not another one mentioning 'Silly Billy's'

I love the name Roxy too, but kind of feel she would have to live up to something as in 'Foxy Roxy'.

sarahnh · 22/01/2008 13:20

Shazza,

Roxy is a cool sounding name and she may well grow up to be a foxy roxy chick!!! I reckon i will just end up with a boring simple name... went through 100 boys and girls names with DH today and he poo pooh every single one bar Jack and Hannah!!

I like Jack but Hannah reminds me of Hannah Montana, ( children's tv programme my niece is obsessed with)!!!!

Shazza2002 · 22/01/2008 13:23

I like Jack too. I find it odd I am more swayed with more 'traditional' names for boys but willing to be bit more adventurous with girls names. Is that because I think the girls can take it in later life? Who knows?.

I thought if I had food it would stop my rambling, obviously not

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 13:23

I'm another one who is positive she hit the jackpot with names first time round (sorry Foghorn - my dd is a Jessica, and mainly a Jessica... v rarely jess.... her choice and habit!). I can't think of another perfect name.
As much as I have a mental shortlist lol, i I don't want to jinx this pg too much by going too far ahead of myself. Does that make sense? It's horrid how m/c changes your outlook...

I do think some of the names you're coming up with are great! I love this - names you would never have thought of, simply because they're not in your repertoire, jump out at you.
Dizzy - loving your dd's abbreviation of Lexy for Alexandra. couldn't do that though cos dh's brother is an Alex.....

D was most likely going to be a Dominic (though from weeks 39-42 we were discusiing Benedict as well). I really am not keen on Dominic now though . Like Benedict still. there is one in dd's class. He's always been a Ben, but his mum said he suddenly wants to use Benedict. She's told him when he can write it he can insist on it lol.

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 13:23

obv meant DD not simply dD

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 13:24

Love hannah, but dh doesn;t. luckily our niece (13 mo) is a Hannah so we need not have that argument!!!!!!

TwilightSurfer · 22/01/2008 13:29

Buckets....too funny...Bristols LOL. I had not idea. Glad I can run my choices by this group. Braxton is a big veto for DH anyway....wasn't think about Bhicks but that's why name discussion is important.

I've been thinking about Lexie since Dizzy mentioned it. Might add that one to my list.

FoghornLeghorn · 22/01/2008 13:34

Alittlebitshy - everyone has their own preferences. I'm sure most people would prefer Jessica over Jess, I'm just a little odd.

Twilight - you have a long list of names - we haven't got passed Jess or Jude yet!

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 13:35

I think Jude is lovely btw!

libbyssister · 22/01/2008 13:48

Oooh we were talking about names at the weekend...

Can't think of any boys' names we like. We chose John James for our DS1, (Johnny most of the time except when he's being told off!). I also like Frances for a girl but DH realised at Xmas (one of my presents was the Dirty Dancing 20 year anniversary DVD) that I would be naming BOTH his children after characters in my crazy teenage film obsession!

We both like Lydia for a girl.

TV and film credits are a good way to get lots of random name suggestions at once, we find.

dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 13:52

alittlebitshy - my cousins daughter is Alexia so there were ructions when we used Lexie but I put my foot down, she is a good 6yrs older and lives in Spain so we only see her once a year if that. Do you not think dh's brother would take it as a compliment!?!

dd2 is now home from nursery having been running a temp and slobbering really heavily, has soaked through every bib/top/vest etc which is how dd1 was on sun before she was ill - ah the joys

showing off now with cheese on toast!!
x

dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 13:56

oohh I am sooooo addicted to tv credits its pathetic - love winding him up with the japanese ones though!!

poppysocks · 22/01/2008 14:07

Ooh names. I love this part. DH sadly is just not interested - well only enough to say no to virtually everything.

If my hunch is right and this is a boy we're fine. There's just one name that we both like and I don't care that it's popular. Tom.

It was hard enough finding a name for DD - she ended up as Madeleine Sophia (Sophia after my Mum) and is known as Maddy - so if we end up with another DD she may well be nameless. I like loads - Alice, Anna, Emily, Isabelle, Alexandra, Martha. DH just gets silly whenever the subject comes up but based on last time Alexandra might be the only cross over we have - so another Lexy? The problem we have though is that we have southern English accents so would pronounce it with a long -andra, whereas everyone round here would give it a short -andra - if you know what I mean. Give the child an identity crisis before she starts!

Also, if it's a girl we really need to get Elizabeth in there as a middle name after a beloved relative who recently died.

poppysocks · 22/01/2008 14:11

Love your DD's names Dizzydixies. And Evie too. DD was going to be Eve but I wanted to call her Evie and DH preferred Eve, so we changed our mind in the end. Love Evangeline too.

libbyssister · 22/01/2008 14:20

Evangeline and Sawyer? Are we all watching 'Lost'??

TwilightSurfer · 22/01/2008 14:47

Madeline Morgan is what my best friend just named her newborn (C-section last Friday).

Tom's a good one. My favorite uncle is Thomas Edward aka Tom aka Tommy.

Had no idea Sawyer was on a current show. I pulled my from Tom Sawyer as we live on the Tennessee River. Same with Phisher/Fischer...thought it'd be cute to call a little boy Fish (DH is a huge angler).

Dizzy sorry DD is ill.

Libby you made me think of one other name...Jesse James (DH is a big motorbike fan too).

libbyssister · 22/01/2008 14:54

Oh I like Tommy.

We think we should steer clear of another names ending in an 'eee' sound as we already have Johnny.... The reasons we come up with rejecting names is getting more and more DAFT!

Sawyer is a v. good-looking man in 'Lost'

libbyssister · 22/01/2008 14:59

Our DS1 is named after his grandfather and great-grandfathers (both James). Maybe we should brainstorm on these?

Mine can be: boys ? John James David Arthur
girls - Sheila Linda Florence Mabel Jean Doris Edith Joan

dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 15:05

I pretty much managed to get all the family names into the first two

Isabella (great aunt/aunt mum & cousins middle names) Jane (Gran, aunt, my middle name) Rose (another aunt & best friend)

Alexandra (finally a just because, we wanted Lexie but dh refused it on its own!) Rae (from Teresa - mil but don't like Teresa so chose from Tess/Reese/Rae and Rae went best) Cecelia (gran on my dad's side)

is its a girl we've pretty much got free reign and if its a boy we have to start with the family names again lol

emmamaw · 22/01/2008 15:06

Hi all,

I'm thinking of Olivia, and Daniel, but trying not too think too much, as the names I picked for my last pregnancy, I went off before the birth.

Someone asked about sickness, I only suffered for two weeks, between weeks 7 and 9, whereas with my dd aged 2, I had it from 4-14 weeks. Everyone says that's a sure sign i'm having a boy, but then people are quick to assume things.

There's some lovely names cropping up, but i'm really tryin g hard to find names that won't date, and will suit them throughout their life. So hard, I know.

Emma

FoghornLeghorn · 22/01/2008 15:09

We have had pretty mixed opinions on Jude, not that we've mentioned it this time, but it was the boys name we had from last time. Some liked it, some loathed it - that's the way it goes.
As long as the parents like it nothing else matters
