Captaincaveman - My viva is 3 weeks before my due date - dont think they will keep me in the room for long - eek! Well done on the words every one counts

Hi HelzBellz - love the name

TwilightSurfer · 21/01/2008 20:47

Captain, the word for today on webster.com is DEVOLVE. Hope that helps with your count HA HA. Best wishes.

poppysocks · 21/01/2008 21:23

Congrats to those of you reaching the 12 week milestone! V. jealous of you!

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage Alberta and the other worrying bleeds.

Just back again after a hellish weekend with migraine. Bad enough, but not being able to take anything for it I just felt helpless as well as awful. Anyway... on the mend now and need to get my head round going back to work tomorrow.

The whole scan thing came to a head on Friday when I rang the hospital I'd decided to swap to to check that they'd got my Dr's referral and when my scan was. They had no sign of the letter and said that as it stands it would be 15 weeks before I got a scan. Apparently they simply aim to get the first ones done before 17 weeks . Do most people tell people without seeing a scan? Otherwise how do people make it that far without it being obvious?

Anyway, thankfully I hadn't cancelled my booking appointment at the other hospital so we're going to go there in a fortnight's time and then change after that. We've also decided against the nuchal translucency scan. Now just need to get through the next fortnight. It feels like so long and I'm so definitely showing - I'm sure people at work have noticed. I'm sure I'm about the same size as I was at about 16 or 17 weeks last time. Only a bit more than 10 now.

On the gender thing I'm sure we're having a boy. Same as others have said, I'd love another DD as we have girl stuff and it would feel more familiar, but a boy would be a nice difference.

pinguin · 21/01/2008 22:33

Hey everyone,

would appreciate some positive thoughts from you guys as have had bleeding today. Brown not red, could be worse, but rushed up to the A&E anyway and my dating scan has been brought forward till tomorrow (and swapped to the hospital nearest my work, where I went to A&E - if all is well I'm thinking of asking to book in with them as the nurses have been so nice to me, specially today. Anyway I'm focusing on the positive which is that I'll have an answer tomorrow one way or the other and will come out either with a nice piccy or I'll go down Tescos and get some posh wine and some Roquefort.

ChaCha · 21/01/2008 22:56

bitshy - so glad to hear all is okay. What a relief!
Good luck for scans tomorrow. Welcome to newbies.

Carrying boys and no m/s - BIG MYTH - I was sick for 41 weeks with DS1 and almost same with DS2 and here we are again, sick sick sick. Shazza - makes me wonder, just cant see myself with a little girl .. wouldn't mind one though

Well done on more words to count CC and must go to bed been putting it off, glucose barley sweets are fab x

MillieMooMoo · 21/01/2008 22:58

pinguin - How worrying. Hope all goes well tmrw!

I have 2 weeks to wait for my scan!

Jennylee · 22/01/2008 00:09

Hi hellzbellz, same due date as me. hope you are feeling well. I am able to eat which is good

TwilightSurfer · 22/01/2008 00:21

Pinguin I do hope your scan goes well. Brown blood=not bad.

Poppysocks sympathize with you on the migraine. I've been living on the verge of one for weeks now. Unsure how to deal with one if it happens because I won't be able to take the usual meds. I guess I'd just have to curl up in a quiet, cool, pitch black room until it passed. With DD around and carpenters due in tomorrow for some remodeling I doubt I'd find that space for a long while. (Added your gender guess below)

Call me crazy but booked a small remodel job for this week. I need proper closets in my bedroom so by Friday I'll have them. Here's hoping I can stay sane through the construction. WHAT WAS I THINKING ?

Thought I'd add myself in, not had scan yet but going on my dates due at the beginning of August. Just found this thread whilst surfing for info on home births, thought I'd stop boring non-pregnant friends, and chat to you guys instead.

ElizabethCM · 22/01/2008 02:26

Hello. I am due 25th August, but have not yet had first scan, so have been lying low (nervous!!). Anyway, re gender of baby recent studies have shown that the mother can play a role in determining sex! I love giving partner this info as he is quite smug about the power of his swimmers!! I have attched links to relevant articles, hope they work.

Lcy · 22/01/2008 07:50

ALBS - hope the bleeding has stopped today

pinguin - sorry to hear you are bleeding. Will be thinking of you today.

Welcome Emma and Elizabeth - my DH is also very smug about his swimmers.

Time does go slowly when waiting for scans. Mine is next THursday adn i want it to hurry up so i can tell work. Then hopefullly they will give me some slack once they know how tired i am.

MillieMooMoo · 22/01/2008 08:35

My h is another smug about his swimmers

His comment when I announced the + test?!

"The Sperminator strikes yet again"

I said "Yes, still ife in the old dog yet" ROFL

Shazza2002 · 22/01/2008 09:09

Morning ladies

Sorry for those that have had to leave. Hope you are coping and getting the support you need.

Welcome to the newbies. Gosh there are so many of us now. It's great.

I'm glad you're all experiencing smug DP's aswell. Mine is calling himself 'Super Spunk'. Nothing to do with the womans body being an amazing tool aswell with what it has to do after he's 'done his bit'

Re M/S and boy or girl. Somebody at work the other day said apparently it's the boys that makes you sick, I guess that never stops ah

Talking of work, I have my scan Friday and was really looking forward to telling everybody on Monday. My waist is already thickening and I am starting to show a bit. But found out yesterday the boss I should tell 1st is not in the office until 12th Feb !!!!!. I will be nearly 15 weeks by then. So can't really tell anybody else until I've told him. How inconsiderate is he

MillieMooMoo · 22/01/2008 09:20

Shazza, very inconsiderate of him!

My boss guessed! Just because I told him I had a GP appt! That'll teach me to never be off ill again, it was out of the ordinary for me!

I am showing quite a bit already at only 10 weeks. Infact, comparing to bump pics from 1st pregnancy, I am same size now as when I was 25 weeks!

Shazza2002 · 22/01/2008 09:28

The size thing is really worrying me. I'm normally a size 16, so at the moment I just look fat. So maybe I can get away with it for longer They'll just think I'm still pigging out on the leftover goodies from christmas

I have booked Friday afternoon off, I know if I say I have hospital I don't have to take holiday, but I think that would raise suspicions [sp?]

FoghornLeghorn · 22/01/2008 09:50

LCY, we have the same scan dates - I'm starting to get very excited about mine !

Welcome to Elizabeth & Emma.

So we've al said what sex we think we are having - has anyone thought of any names yet ?

CaptainCaveman · 22/01/2008 09:54

Congrats and welcome emma and elizabeth, hoping you aren't feeling ill or rough with your pg?

Praying for your scan today Pinguin - hope the wine and the cheese are still off the menu ((((pinguin))))

TS - well what do you know - DEVOLVE is something I WILL be writing about today, how spooky is that!?

I'm trying to convince myself that I am getting a bump but no, it really is just too many sweets and pies!

Am off to study, have fun today everyone!!

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 10:35

Morning girls,
sorry to those who have had to leave us and welcome to those now brave enough to join!!

I had sick bug yesterday which meant head down toilet from 8am until 10pm and only managed to keep down a mouthful of water at 2am this morning - NOT funny!! Am hopefully 13wks today so fingers crossed its not late m/s raising its head.

Alittlebitshy - am thrilled everything seems ok, it sounds like you had same as me and it is scarey as hell. Brown is good and may last a wee while longer but don't panic, thats whats happening to me and it was a week ago today I had my big bleed. Was thinking about you all day yesterday trying to send you positive thought, I wanted dh to come and log on for me but decided against asking him on top of everything else he was having to do!

TS, am laughing at your refit, at 7months pregnant with dd2 I decided I didn't like our ensuite and took a hammer to it, dh came home from work and nearly died!! Made sense to me but couldn't manage to get him to understand it!

Am VERY impressed with all your pgdips/phds!!! I went back to college to start a distance learning HNC in August and nearly fell about laughing when she told me my first assignment was 1500 words long, my last one was 7yrs ago at uni and it was a 10,000 word dissertation! Even so, scarey using the brain in a completely new subject after such a long time!

Am off to brave some toast and lucozade in the hope of stopping this shaking. Dh HAS to go into work tonight so I'll have no choice but to deal with little darlings regardless of how am feeling and I HAVE to go into work tomorrow!

sorry for rambling on again!!
x

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 11:29

poor you dizzy hope you;re feeling better and that it IS just a bug.
And thanks for thinking of me yesterday - it makes me feel all warm and fluffy

Welcome new ladies!!!!!!

Shazza - how very dare your boss be off so long .

No more bleeding last night. think there is a bit of brown on my pantyliner, but not significant.
Having seen waving, stubborn baby is good isn't it???

why does this pg lark have to be so stressful and so sicky?!

Poppysocks - i had the same thing. My gp kept not referring me. grr. the anrenatal unit have FINALLY receivd my letter and the appts are in the post. Praise the lord!!!

I asked them at the antental unit when i called them back (they'd left a message re making appts), about what to do if i bled again, and they said go to a and e. So ladies, i guess that's what i'll do....... Sigh. hope it doesn;t happen again, but dr at FMC yesterday said i should be prepared to maybe have more bleeding over next couple of weeks while placenta attaches etc. great

Shazza2002 · 22/01/2008 11:36

dizzydixxies - Sorry you are feeling so crap, this really is the time of year for bugs isn't it. Hopefully you can keep something down to get some strength.

alittlebitshy - Everybody says brown blood is ok, and if the Doc has told you to expect more. But I know that doesn't help atall. I mean will we ever stop worrying, unless we had a way at looking at the little ones each day as they grow . But even when they're born it's another worry all together

dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 11:39

alittlebitshy I PROMISE thats exactly what happened to me a week ago today, huge rush of bright red blood (thought I had wet myself) and more everytime I went to loo. Was taken into EPC and found I was further on than thought, bleeding was ME and not baby and all to do with placenta attachment. All a bit fuzzy as was just too relieved to see heartbeat/kicking etc. Was told to take it easy for next week and monitor bleeding on pads which would hopefully easy off going from red to brown to tinged discharge like substance (sorry for those of you to whom this is too much info!!)

Seeing bub kicking about etc is fantastic and apparently bleeding at this stage, although terrifying, is very common and normal - lots of scarey names for it on web searches but basically explain the exact same - afterbirth and placenta attaching.

No heavy lifing/pushing heavy trolleys etc and no flying and it should ease off.

As pp stated, chances of miscarriage after 12wks, although no entirely unheard of, are reduced dramatically and you should take some heart in that.

I have another scan on Thursday so will grill them some more about it and take dh to listen in as well so hopefully he'll pick up on more of it than I did last time!!

am V proud of myself and managed to force down some toast lol
x

dizzydixies · 22/01/2008 11:41

thanks shazza - god bless the makers of lucozade!!

alittlebitshy · 22/01/2008 11:43

well done on the toast!!!!! lol.

thanks for being reassuring!!!!!!!! (both dd and shazza)

I love this thread!

I need to think about eating. ugh. feel sick so don't fancy anything, but need to have something, else i'll feel worse. ugh.
