Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mel2005 · 29/09/2008 15:27

i have the little boy transverse across the top and the little girl part transverse/part head down along the bottom.
at 24 weeks they were estimated to be 1lb 379 (627g) and 1lb375 (625g) they are on the 12th centile which is rather worrying but i am making a huge effort to pile in the calories and protein. i am just finding it impossible to eat the recommended 3000 calories as we tend to eat fish and chicken, loads of fruit, veg, eggs, rice and bread. i forget to snack and when i do i tend to go for apples and bananas they are not many calories so when i do a final calorie count up at the end of the day i am really short.

MerryMarigold · 29/09/2008 18:02

mel, I can give you plenty of calorie advice! I LOVE FOOD, especially unhealthy stuff. Still, I have the opposite prob and babies may be early because body can't keep them in when they are so big (and I am not).

Fried breakfast/ lunch - BACON, eggs, sausages etc.
Cheese omelette (lunch not a main meal) - or with bacon and spinach
Boiled eggs for b'fast/ lunch
Rice pudding
Ice cream
Biscuits - 2-3x per day
Cheese and crackers
Cakes! Or cereal bars
Greek yoghurt
Peanut butter sarnies
French stick (a whole one preferably)
Pasta with creamy sauces
Lamb, lamb and lamb
Nuts to nibble on
Porridge made with milk with dried fruit

I actually have a book that recommends MacDonald's.

You must make sure you have morning snack and afternoon snack as well as lunch. Start with smaller snacks...and build up.

MerryMarigold · 29/09/2008 18:04

Fish is good for protein I think...

Also lentils, nuts and eggs are specially wonderful according to a book I have, got different kinds of protein.

TALLULAHBELLE · 29/09/2008 20:45

Feeling very ignorant reading this. Got no idea what weight I or the babies are or how they are presenting. Too early- 25 weeks? Maybe as I mentioned last week it's because after waiting 3 hours in the hosp for my ante-natal check I went home without being seen. Did have scan though, feeling like should have been given much more info, am kind of in the dark compared to the rest of you on this thread.Didn't know was supposed to be eating so much either. Pass the niscuit tin! Be another 3 weeks before my next appt, what should I be asking?

No sign of AQ then?

LenniEd · 29/09/2008 21:31

Thought I would stop in to tell you that AQ had the twins on Sat 27th - she sent a message to one of the ladies on our post-natal thread saying:

"V pleased to say that twins finally arrived last night 27th Sept! V quick labour all well. Boy first 6lb 8oz followed 20 mins later by girl 7lb 7oz! Names later "

Thought you would all like to know - it is wonderful news, I can't stop grinning! And to have twins weighing 14lb between them! No other news as yet, but will let you know if we hear anything else before she makes it back online.

mel2005 · 29/09/2008 21:32

MM cant face mcdonalds as it just makes me feel really ill afterwards, i dont know why.
i do often cook roast lamb on a sunday. i have really gone off pasta, yoghurt and ice cream as well and milk gives me a really upset belly.
i do eat quite a bit of fish i eat it at least four times a week, tonight i cooked salmon for dinner. i do eat quite a few eggs as we have our own hens, mind you they have gone from laying 7 eggs a day to one/two because of the cold weather.
i have been planning tomorrows food, i think i might make bacon and tomato sarnies for breakfast as i have some bacon in the freezer. also i bought some tomato soup as its 200cal a tin, i could have it as a 10am snack with some buttered bread. mackeral toasted sandwiches for lunch. sausage rolls for afternoon snack and lasagna verdi with salad and garlic bread for dinner. i am sure that would do it. not sure if i can face all that food though.

mel2005 · 29/09/2008 21:34

PazzaPlusTwo · 29/09/2008 22:29

welcome little Accessorize Prince and Princess!!!

congratulations AQ!!!!! great weights

MarsLady · 30/09/2008 01:13

Knew you could do it AQ! Proud of you. We understand if it takes a while for you to post. If I can help in anyway.. let me know. My number's on my site.

Pazza... am up your way on Thursday, may pop in!

MerryMarigold · 30/09/2008 03:15

Wow, accessorize, that's amazing. And such good sized babies. I am (as always) in awe. Can't wait to hear the details on the birth...and see pics...and hear names...

Thanks so much lennied for keeping us posted. We were hoping/ wondering...

mmmmmm...mel, your meals for tomorrow sound yummy. If you can't manage it all, maybe replace the sausage rolls with some nuts, they are not so filling, but good on protein and 'good oils'. Yeah, there was a lot of dairy on the list! Usually I am intolerant, but pregnancy I am ok, so make the most of it! Is yoghurt ok? I can do yog better than cheese/ milk when I am not pg. McDonalds is not a 'must' but apparently a quick and (according to the book) acceptable way to get a protein and fat fix!

Tallulah, I did not find out weight of babies till 30 week scan and only because I asked. In fact, I would not know how they were lying unless I ask, although I do know now where it comes on the scan 'printout' in your notes. Have a look at it, most of the measurements are not very understandable, but it will give you an idea of what centile the babies are on, and also how they are presenting. Also, in terms of food, it's just because I was first told I was having triplets so my friend bought me a book about multiple births and I was so worried that I would lose a baby, I was really trying to eat the recommended stuff (aiming for it anyway), then when they discovered it was 'just' 2 babies, I already had established some feeding patterns. This book is by Barbara Luke. It is referred to as well by Elizabeth Noble in her book. Basically this woman is a dietician (an academic) and her theory is that the right diet will give better weight babies and keep them in for longer (sometimes they come early because they are not getting nutritional needs met). It's quite interesting anyway.

MerryMarigold · 30/09/2008 03:22

Tallulah, I was v much in the dark too. I didn't even know till last check up (32weeks) what the hospital would do about induction/ c-section etc. Now I do know the general hospital protocol, but not really how they are treating my situation specifically. I will know more after my appointment on Friday. I am 34 weeks today!!

In terms of what to ask. 2 things I wouldn't have thought of but had a very thorough (locum) consultant over the summer were:

  • extra folic acid. No other docs gave me this, but he seemed to think it's important.
  • GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) to check for gestational diabetes. He just a had a hunch about it, and given the time it took to have the test/ get the results/ get seen by the diabetic team, I am glad he did it before the stage where it started showing in my urine.
hedgepig · 30/09/2008 07:05

AQ just peeping in from the Oct Thread, congratulations well done, what fantastic weights they are .

WombFor1More · 30/09/2008 11:02

Also crashing from Oct!

Huge congrats AQ

Can't wait to hear all about it, what wonderful sizes too. Just shows what a fab job you've done for the last 9months

GettingBiggerBird · 30/09/2008 14:58

Yay AQ well done! Can't wait to hear more but also hope you've got better things to do than be on here for a while!

Tallulah, I only found out weights at the 27/28 week scan, and only because the format of the scan printout suggests projected weights based on the other measurements. It also states the position of each twin, though I'm a bit preoccupied with natural birth so have been quite focussed on position with each scan and MW appointment. I got a copy of the hospital's twin protocol from my consultant, so I could see what the usual procedures are for twin deliveries, but that may just cause more worry than it's worth if you're not that focussed on the birth and happy to let the MWs and doctors guide you.

poorbuthappy · 30/09/2008 15:18

AQ - Congrats!!!!!!!!!

MEL2005 - only just catching up - so sorry to hear about what you went through - hope you are feeling better now...

Hope everyone else is ok today - I keep threatening everyone in work with an alien moment as I'm sure my skin's going to split in a minute...

Pheonixnights · 30/09/2008 15:38

Congratulations AQ - That is fantastic news! How do you carry about 14lb of baby???

Tallulah - I just kept on asking questions to the sonographer yesterday. My mum actually asked her the weight of the babies which she worked out after she had taken all the measurements. She also told me where each twin is lying which is nice as I can tell if it is twin 1 or two shifting about. At the moment twin 2 is the more active one and is a pain in the bum especially at night time. With regards to diet and calories etc no one has made any reference to it. My midwife told me not to go more than a couple of hours without food and I do carry about an "emergency cereal bar" in case I need it. Both the twins are growing at the right rate and the consultant was more than happy yesterday so I seem to be doing ok. Right then off to get a choccy biscuit!!

jenwa · 30/09/2008 16:31

AQ congrats to you, really pleased all went well and that you managed to escape induction. Hope your little ones are well and cant wait to hear how you got on and how they are doing.

TALLULAHBELLE · 30/09/2008 20:39

Thanks for that info folks. Got to get a bit more pro-active I think. Did have some qusts in mind for m/w at last appt but since never got to see her , well...Should have asked the doc whilst she was doing scan but was so tired, sore & hacked off by then plus thought might actually die from the heartburn from lying on the couch - big wimp .

Have thought quite a lot about the birth & although would really like natural birth am determined that they both come out same way. My biggest fear is that will go through labour for twin 1 then need emergency section for no 2. Don't know if this common it's just the sort of thing that weighs on my mind and makes me think I would ask for elective C if everything not looking favourable for natural delivery for both.

PazzaPlusTwo · 01/10/2008 16:35

am having a choccie biccie in sympathy with Phoenixnights

... and i'm not even pg!

mind you, twins are sucking me skinny. Get into the habit of eating a lot (and well) now, if you plan to bf. It takes some dedication to get those 3000 cals down you when you're doing 16 feeds and 16 nappy changes a day... (and drink 3 litres of water, and you might go to the loo and/or have a shower, if you get time)

it's all good honest , it sounds daunting , but if i can do it anyone can, and dts are sooo worth it, sooo lovely, sooo amazing

PazzaPlusTwo · 01/10/2008 16:37

MArs - what time? I was thinking of taking dts to 'creative dance' at 2, but since buggy has died a terrible and protracted death, it may not happen. you may be just the excuse i need not to go!! would be lovely to see you

MerryMarigold · 01/10/2008 17:44

Hi y'all

I had my last scan today. The latest is: BABIES HAVE MOVED! But sadly 'twin 1' is breech (awkward girl) and 'twin 2' is head down. Maybe he will move into pole position and get his head into my cervix, but he's still quite high up compared to my lovely dd who keeps kicking me in the cervix! They are a 'decent size', scan estimate was 5lb2oz on the girl and 5lb5oz on the boy, but ya never really know I guess. Got consultant on Friday, so I hope he will confirm 'procedure' for me.

Tallulah, I had exactly the same worry re. going through labour and then having a CS on top of it all. I don't think it's actually that common though (TAMBA survey said 5%). I have decided to leave it up to the babies and see how they are presenting. At the moment it would be a CS.

PazzaPlusTwo · 01/10/2008 18:49

hey Merry, are you a bit more comfortable now they have moved? must be frustrating to not know whether it'll be CS or VB though. what happens next for you?

MerryMarigold · 01/10/2008 20:01

Pazza, not really more comfortable, not sure when they moved. I am so huge! I don't mind not knowing CS or VB, gives me no time to stress about either!!!

PazzaPlusTwo · 01/10/2008 21:12

Merry you are such a glass-half-full person, hats off to you!

I should be wearing a hat actually, i am having a bad hair day
