My twins are due in May and it would be nice to have other multiple-mums-to-be to chat to!

OP posts:

MerryMarigold · 01/10/2008 22:04

Yeah right, Pazz. My dh would not agree with you. I am actually a bit schiz! . Fluctuate between glass half full and glass totally and completely empty (and always has been!).

I have been wearing hats! I had my 'last' hair cut today. It's so nice. Gone back 'short'. I know it was short, but it's even shorter. It's the first haircut I've paid for in a year and half! Wonder whem my next one will be though.

PazzaPlusTwo · 02/10/2008 00:45

me too ... depending on time of month, glass is overflowing with rioja, or is glass of flat warm coke knocked over the laptop, sigh...

you reminded me, i'm going to get my hairdresser to come round soon

i really have got to stop hanging out on this antenatal thread, my dts are 5 months now! talk about a slack grip on reality!!!

GettingBiggerBird · 02/10/2008 09:29

Pazza don't leave us! We need your words of wisdom and doting to remind us this will all be worth it!

Merry glad your DTs are doing well even if not perfect position. That's a whole lot of baby, here's sending you cushiony vibes to make you more comfortable. Mine are now both breach (so much for the magic hands of my acupuncturist), but surprisingly the consultant said that's actually better for a VB as there's less likelihood of them getting caught up with each other. In the next breath, he went on to point out that second twins delivered by VB have lower IQs than those delivered by CS. Did I ask for that kind of info?!

I have been properly nesting now - baby clothes all sorted, quite close to having everything ready now. What am I going to do with myself when work stops?

GettingBiggerBird · 02/10/2008 09:30

Glass of rioja, yummmm, ...

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2008 09:47

GBB. I don't have all clothes washed! I have a big pile on the bed. I have, however, got breast pads. I don't have a hospital bag packed either. Gosh, am such a slacker!! Now worrying that they are gonna be too big to share a moses. Gonna have to get cot out of loft, wash mattress cover, and what in heck am I gonna do with 2 Moses baskets? (I can give one back I borrowed, but my Mum made the other for ds, and it is beautifully embroidered, can't be given away).

Pazza, don't leave us please. We need you - and maybe even more once the dts are out and about. You and Mars stop us wallowing in ignorance and self pity (Ok, I speak for myself here!).

MarsLady · 02/10/2008 14:46

Well I have no intention of being pregnant again but I also have no intention of staying away from this thread lol! I love pregnancy and pregnancy with twins....

Just keep eating well, drinking and resting ladies.

PazzaPlusTwo · 03/10/2008 00:40

hiya ... ooh we went to creative dance today, I was soo chilled out and sleepy by the end, all the floaty fabrics and bubbles and giggling babies and manu chao playing ... a very nice class.

Carmen was a bit intimidated by all the people and movement at first, Anais wasnt fazed at all, just smiled quietly and watched it all go by.

it was a bit of a mission getting there and i got there late (surprise), but it was worth it. remember this when your dts arrive ... getting out and about is worth it, even though it can be daunting and you're definitely really too tired to do it

sometimes there is an icecream at the end of the tunnel too

PazzaPlusTwo · 03/10/2008 00:41

awww ... its nice to be wanted

mel2005 · 03/10/2008 13:33

blooming marvellous have 30%off nursery and toys code:TPN2.

mel2005 · 03/10/2008 13:49

i just bought my little boy the big cement mixer/construction kit or xmas and another sound and movement monitor, i bought one in the last sale and was going to use the old one for the other twin but the new one is so much better (and has alot less static) i decided to get two new ones for the twins and keep to old one for spare (as it needs some tlc).
if i didnt have doomoos already i would have bought a couple of them as well.

did anybody see that pogramme last night on identical quads? they were so brave, i wonder how they cope with four babies at home.

good news i just used my doppler as i thought the twins had moved and i think the little boy who had been laying accross the top is now moving his head down as his little sister is reversing and getting into heads down as well. i will try for a natural labour only if they are both head down. to be honest after seeing the c-sction last night on TV i am not so eager for the babies to be dragged out like that.

GettingBiggerBird · 03/10/2008 17:35

Thanks, Mel, great tip for the code, I've just bought the twin size playmat that someone recommended a while ago, and some sleeping bags.

Have a good weekend everyone. I think I have lots of 'me' time coming, and maybe even an evening out with my DH tomorrow, what excitement!

MerryMarigold · 03/10/2008 17:40

Hi. Well I got my section date - 22nd Oct. So no surprises there unless it happens sooner. My hunch is 14th! Consultant asked me how I wanted to deliver. I was surprised, thought no choice, but anyway, I asked what he thought (errr..yeah, like I am an expert on twin births and being paid hundred K a year to be an expert in it!). He said c-section, so I went for it. I wasn't sure about VB anyway and certainly not delivering what will probably be a 7lb breech baby. So anyway, got the date and I am relieved to know it cannot go anywhere past that. I will be 37wks if they stay that long. It's good to have a 'deadline' to get stuff ready for .

Yeah mel, I don't think birth is that pleasant for the poor babies either, although it can be more or less pleasant depending on circumstances. It certainly wasn't for poor ds with salad servers round his little head! (He had some bad marks and bruises after). Wanted water birth this time as I'm sure it's more pleasant for mum and baby, but not poss with twins cos need more monitoring etc.

mel2005 · 03/10/2008 19:12

Thats true MM i am sure the ventouse wasnt pleasant for DS. i had set myself up for a CS unless the were both head down. i am just worried about all the complications with a natural labour with twins and my maternity unit doesnt make me feel at all confident.

i am just counting the weeks now after my little scare and keep looking at the premmies book to see what the survival rates are now. its currently 75% but mine are very small so i am trying to eat as much as i can to get their weights up. i spent last night with heartburn then couldnt sleep because i felt really sick all night. i dont think my body likes eating so much. the nuts are a great idea 800 cals for 125g of cashews. bombay mix has 499cals per 100g.

PazzaPlusTwo · 03/10/2008 22:51

hey merry, fingers & legs crossed!

MarsLady · 04/10/2008 18:57

Well if any of you want a couple of numbers of mums who recently had straightforward vaginal births with their DTs, just drop me a line. It's not as bad as people make out.

accessorizequeen · 05/10/2008 13:19

Hullo all, sorry have no time to read the thread, about 1 min before twins need feeding! So just copying a message I wrote to my other postnatal group to fill you in, will try to add photos to my profile today.

Felix and Bridget are now 8 days old and they're so sweet, but life is very hard work just now as I guess I expected. During the day they're feeding every 3 hours & napping well so it's fairly calm then except when both want feeding at same times! Bfeeding twins is um interesting to say the least - one screams for 20-30 mins until latched and then feeds like a dream, the other faffs around for over an hour!

Birth story wanted I guess. It's actually the best birth I've had so far funniliy enough! and I'm recovering better than with the other two as well. Very lucky, I feel. Waters exploded all over our bed Sat. night, went into hospital, within seconds of entering the doors was contracting 2 mins apart and in agony. Whished me into delivery room, 4cm. Asked repeadtedly for epidural until I got one!!! Within 30 mins twin1's head was right at the entrance, dp tried to disappear to get my bags from the car & they dragged him back. Got to hospital 8pm, at 10.18 Felix was born and absolutely fine. Then things got a bit hairy as Bridget had her arm stuck up in front of her head so they had to put it back in (very good registrar, she was wonderful!) before she could be born. She came out 20 mins after her brother quite grey and floppy, not making a noise which I panicked about but within a minute was fine and there are no problems. Apparently I was minutes from a crash section because 20 is the max b/t twins before she would be have been in trouble. One tiny stitch, lost quite a lot of blood but all ok and I am loving being able to bend and walk and get in and out of bed/car etc without any help!!

Didn't feel bonded with them for quite some time, but stayed an extra night in hospital on advice of a friend and made all the difference getting to know them both a little. Got very gushy over them yesterday, but generally so bloomin tired & back/pelvis hurting that it's just a blur. Hope that will settle down.

mel2005 · 05/10/2008 15:41

congratulations AQ, what lovely names, welcome to the world Felix and Bridget.

MarsLady · 05/10/2008 15:56

Well done AQ. Holler if you need me. Have you tried to tandem feed them? Pop the easy/less fidgety twin on first then the second. Most hospitals give more than 20 mins for the second twin but I'm glad Bridget decided to make her appearance within their timings.

TALLULAHBELLE · 05/10/2008 16:15

Congratulations AQ Sounds like things settling into place now & birth went well despite hairy moment. Well done you.

Pheonixnights · 05/10/2008 16:34

Congratulations AQ I am so please everything went well.

accessorizequeen · 05/10/2008 16:50

thanks all. mars I am tandem feeding 2-3 times a day but can't do it at night no space 2 put 2nd baby so we're doing alternate breast/bottle formula then although I wld like to express 4 some feeds just can't see when! Using nipple shields as added hassle with v, flat nippples as with ds's.

MerryMarigold · 05/10/2008 20:55

Wow, go AQ. What a great birth story! So glad Felix and Bridget came out 'easily' with epidural as well, am most ! Loving name 'Bridget' - so you and dh finally agreed... Sounds like you are doing really, really well, tandem feeding 2-3x per day at this stage is really good, more than I am aiming for... Thanks so much for keeping us updated despite having so much on your hands. Big hugs to you, your twins, ds's and dh...xxxxxx

jenwa · 05/10/2008 21:37

AQ Congrats on your new babies and there lovely names. Glad all went well and you are all doing fine. Hopefully you are bonding well now and adoring your new babies. I can imagine its hard work but you seem to be managing. Keep us informed how you are doing.

MarsLady · 05/10/2008 22:12

As I said AQ. Holler if you need me. My number's on my site. Happy to help if I can.

accessorizequeen · 05/10/2008 22:41

Just skimming, saw that Merry's now having a section and Mel's not. I've had both kinds of birth and now a VB with dt's. It seems to be all about confidence in your consultant, doesn't it? Ended up the registrar I'd seen quite often during AN checks moved dd's arm out of the way, I had complete confidence in her & mwives later said she'd done a sterling job and helped me avoid a cs. I would certainly say that having an epidural took the fear out of the whole thing for me, I completely relaxed once I knew I was getting one, I was terrified of the pain if 2nd twin turned breech which happens often.
Pazza and Mars, I really value your posts on here so please stick around! I'm going to!
Re: beds for the dt's, mine are co-sharing a cotbed in their nursery and it's working fine actually. I was up all night the first 3 nights after returning home anyway!
Tandem feeding after the first few tries wasn't as bad as I thought and halves the no/time of feeds so I keep persevering. Otherwise tbh I would be feeding almost non-stop for 24 hours.
