My twins are due in May and it would be nice to have other multiple-mums-to-be to chat to!

hi BB. There is a GBB on here too! CONGRATS! You found out with some time to spare....I found out at 14 weeks and accessorize at 17 weeks! I'm sure loads of questions will pop into your head. I felt sicker earlier than I did with my first, but it wore off at a similar time (11-13 weeks). I never threw up either, but felt very sick and very tired and extremely emotional.

Yeah, you can definitely breastfeed two at once. I bought 2 books about it! (not read them yet though!). If it's your first babies then I would recommend Rough Guide to Pregnancy, as I read it with my first and it was really funny, and most things are pretty similar tbh. I also have a book all about nutrition for multiple births, not that I have followed it. It's not as expensive as you'd think, you can get a lot from ebay or TAMBA (Twins and Multiple Births Assoc) or gumtree if in London. The TAMBA stuff is great as people are always selling 2x of everything! Since I mostly already had one thing, I only needed one more, but you will need 2 from day 1 I guess.

There is also a multiple births 'chat' thread where they will welcome you...starts with 'd'ya ever...' under multiple births. They've all 'been there and done that' so a bit more experience than us who are still preggie.

Hello BB, and congratulations. I found out at about your stage too, nice to have lots of time to get used to the idea! I stopped feeling sick at about 12 weeks - I wasn't sick either but felt awful and also very emotional. I still have my moments! I also really noticed getting much slower and denser MUCH quicker than with my previous pregnancy, so prepare youself!

Our main discussions seem to be about buggies, cars, routines and breastfeeding so far. We have a couple of mums who've had their twins already and are coping really well. Hopefully they can reassure you about breastfeeding. Mel is our buggy expert.

There's a stats list but I can't seem to copy it here for you to put in your details - working off a laptop. MM, can you help?

Poor, hope all went well at your scan today?

It'll be a big help. Oh the kudos in the playground when he can tell everyone that his mummy has two babies in her tummy... In true life!

MerryMarigold · 28/08/2008 18:06

oh, ideal, pruners. at least he can wash, dress and feed himself plus no nappies. My ds will be nearly 3 when I 'pop' and all in the middle of potty training now plus he can't dress himself either. Don't want to discourage you, but...

  • sicker earlier (though wore off at same time as first pregnancy)
  • huger more quickly
  • really huge now (maternity clothes, can i fit them?!)
  • very uncomfortable most of the time
  • more potential of gestational diabetes
  • new car required

ummmm....BUT...for me anyway, the LAST TIME I WILL BE PREGNANT so I'd better enjoy it! And having 2 the same age will be soooooooo cool in the long run.

Now, am going to the 'd'ya ever' to see what Mars is up to

GettingBiggerBird · 28/08/2008 19:48

hoxtonchick · 28/08/2008 20:01

pruners! i am smiling great big huge smiles for you .

accessorizequeen · 28/08/2008 20:07

This thread is filling up fast. Congratulations to pruners and binkyb, both due about the same time I guess? My ds is nearly 5 pruners and he was out with me today buying pressies for the dt's, very sweet about it. If only I didn't have another ds as well to deal with! I don't meant that really, it's just the 4 under 5 I can't get my head around. Seems to equal insanity for at least a year.

I have just started reading a new book on twins (I bought two this week) and it has loads of piccies of different ways to tandem feed twins, very helpful. Also a great chapter on 'streamlined housekeeping' which I took to heart. American yes, but I would heartily recommend. One of my first thoughts on finding out I was expecting the dt's was 'how on earth can I breastfeed'. And I think it's the support I get which will mean I can or can't rather than the logistics of it iyswim.

Got BH's for first time on Tues, I know it means nothing but I am stupidly excited that it might mean I'm going to go into labour next week (once I am 36 weeks!) and will stop waddling like a bloomin duck everywhere. Cannot sleep more than an hour at a time now, despite complete exhaustion. arggggh. Make the most of the 2nd trimester, that's all I can say!

accessorizequeen · 28/08/2008 20:12

Sorry the good book on bf was Mothering Multiples

Ewemoo · 28/08/2008 20:27

I am now 17+4 with my dts. I remember feeling my dd1 move at 18 weeks and I thought I would have felt more by now especially with twins or does it work the other way? I've only felt one flutter when I was drinking a mcdonalds milkshake but nothing else. I heard their heartbeats last week but after having a mc in February am struggling not to panic about everything. Can anyone reassure me?

GettingBiggerBird · 28/08/2008 20:35

Hi Ewemoo, was wondering where you and a few other quiet ones were. Not long till your 20-week scan now for reassurance? Do you know where your placenta is? If it's at the front of your womb, it may mean you don't feel much till later, and even then less than you'd expect. I felt movement quite early but then nothing for ages, but in the last week or so it's really stepped up to a new level (I'm 23 wks). Are these your first babies? It can take longer then too. Don't worry .

accessorizequeen · 28/08/2008 20:36

Ewemoo, you have to trust that if they were perfectly fine last week and you've had no symptoms of mc (which would be significant with dt's at 17 weeks) that they're still fine. I must admit I continued worrying for a long time, but knew in my head (and dp would point out!) that if something was wrong then there would be a sign of that. It made me calm down a lot because I had to be rational about my fears.

It is extremely hard not to panic, what might help you more is to start actually planning for them coming i.e. names, what buggy you might like that sort of thing. Start acting as though they're going to be fine and you may feel that way soon enough. It worked for me anyway being a fairly negative person naturally! Will you be having another scan in a couple of weeks?

BTW, binkyb, you don't have to pay a fortune for a double buggy esp if you're ok with 2nd hand (which most of us have bought). You have lots of time to decide and track what you want down on ebay etc.

GettingBiggerBird · 28/08/2008 20:38

Ewemoo - sorry, you mention DD1 in your post, then I ask you if these DTs are your first babies. I need to stop work soon, I'm a liability.

accessorizequeen · 28/08/2008 20:41

gbb! When are you thinking of stopping btw?
