Denny - snap! To be fair, I didn't completely abstain during the middle Christmas, but I certainly didn't go mad. Next Christmas we'll have to have a BIG catch up.

Soph73 · 11/01/2008 15:07

I´m 26 wks according to the midwife & tummy is 22cms. I do remember them doing it with DS1 but can´t remember why they did it. We are very old-fashioned over here Has your stripper turned up yet - rugby player sounds like a nice idea to me

Soph73 · 11/01/2008 15:09

This is the first (and last time) I´ve been nearly teetotal over Christmas. I did have a bucks fizz, glass of sherry & glass of wine. Not one after the other you understand, just in case you think I´m completely irresponsible

EllieG · 11/01/2008 15:12

I think the measurement is for something fundal. That's what they told me anyway. Marks where baby is maybe?

The midwife said to me this morning 'You've got a lovely big bump haven't you for 26 weeks?' I didn't know what the answer was but I think it was nice.

Off to meeting now - happy hen do!

Soph73 · 11/01/2008 15:22

It´s really funny over here. The English people think I´ve got a nice neat bump & the Spanish think I´m enormous Better start tidying up - am treating DS to tea out today as I had to drop him off at 7.30am this morning to make it for 8am blood test - bless!

Sheds75 · 11/01/2008 15:23

Denny are you and I the only North west/cheshire bods?

Soph73 · 11/01/2008 15:30

Have a good weekend everyone - am off in a mo. Enjoy whatever surprises are in store for you Scorpio

Denny185 · 11/01/2008 15:56

Think possibly sheds, on a reg basis I wonder why we stay here - seem to be doing the school run in the rain on such a reg basis, just returned home soaking wet again and DD insisted on jumping in puddles all the way home even though id forgotten her wellies. Shes now sitting in her knickers as rest of clothes wet and she cabt be bothered to go up and change. Maybe it will be dry Monday or snowing would be good.

Northeast - r we mad doing it again so soon? Been thinking how mad life is going to be with 3 its already hard enough with 2 somedays.

Soph - after 20 weeks the fundal height should equal the weeks you r pregnant, they dont worry unless u r consistantly measuring small or big coz baby position can give quite different measurements from one day to the next.

Sheds75 · 11/01/2008 16:12

have a good weekend all,

Enjoy the rest of the Hen do

northeastmummy · 11/01/2008 16:28

Oh Denny - I haven't even got to 2 yet and can't imagine what on earth it's going to be like!! What age gap do you have between your first two?

Peachy · 11/01/2008 16:36

Denny wouldn't worry aboput teh NE rain today, it's sodden in South Wales too- the school was so flooded it ahd to op-en extra gates!

Denny185 · 11/01/2008 17:17

Oh glad its not just here then, its torrential at the mo and were all out for a curry soon so think we may get a little wet. DH just home from work apparently Buxton covered in snow - only just up the road theres hope for us yet!!

Northeast - theres 4 1/2 years between the other 2 which is fab, when DD at school have whole day with just DS - just like having first child all over again. This time only 18 months difference so dont think Ill get a minutes peace unless I can get them to have day sleeps at the same time

KnitterInTheNW · 11/01/2008 18:12

Sheds... I'm in Cheshire too!

Peachy · 11/01/2008 18:54

It seems half the local counties are under water- had Dh been working tonight he couldn't actually have got there! So most definitely not just you LOL!

Scampmum · 11/01/2008 20:03

Hello girls! have I got lots of catching up to do? I'll have two shots of whiskey and two pints of cider (ice in the cider).

Me too on the three consecutive sober Christmases! Again did have a bit whilst bf but not nearly enough.

Measurement is fundal length (height of uterus, roughly 1cm = 1 week is the guideline) but it is pretty inaccurate. I was sent for a growth scan last time because I was measuring small for dates (40 weeks!) but apparently it can vary massively depending on the midwife e.g. whether they put it against the skin or not and where they start!

Scorpio, love the veil. VERY classy !

Scampmum · 11/01/2008 20:03

[no flaming sambucas for you, though]

lorisparkle · 11/01/2008 20:19

I hope everyone is still sober enough to type! As usual I turn up late to these events. I think I will have the pint of baileys too with some lovely pate, smoked salmon (have never been sure on that one) and some prawns (again not really sure on uncooked one). I would love a couple of glasses of bubbly to go with it and I'll get you a large pint of whatever you are having scorpio...

The other thing about measuring the fundal length is to check that the uterus is growing. A friend had a worrying time when hers was not growing but the baby is very healthy although a little small (all her others were small aswell so no surprise there)

I hate the rain now. When it was the terrible floods in Gloucestershire I was about 3 weeks pregnant (and did not know of course!) but I think my hormones were already working. We were about 45 mins from home with news reports that all the roads to were we live were shut. I was in bits thinking about my poor lo at home and us not being able to get to him. (even though he was perfectly safe with Grandma). It took us about 4 hours to get home and we drove through a shut road to get there. My sister's house was flooded but she could not get home and my mum had to stay with us as she could not get home. My poor dad was on his own worrying about everyone but had no way of getting anywher. Now whenever I hear torrential rain I start getting anxious again. My DH had to take an alternate route to get home tonight as there was floods again but I know I should count myself very lucky.

I think I had better cheer up with another glass of something. Maybe a Tia Maria and some chocolate (not forbidden but I do love it so!)

Scampmum · 11/01/2008 20:47

I've been eating smoked salmon (and not parma ham unless it's cooked) but miss runny eggs desperately. Is it really OK to eat them? I crave eggs so I have scrambled or watch DH and DD devour lovely runny boiled eggs whilst I have a rubber one that soldiers bounce off

Scampmum · 11/01/2008 20:48

Loris, I think it might be just you and me... are the others puking in the bogs with the shock of all this indulgence?

Bainmarie · 11/01/2008 20:55

Oh no, I am late too! I want a glass of everything that I am not allowed

Mollyfloss · 11/01/2008 23:53

All that alcohol was great this afternoon, love getting virtually drunk - no hangover! I have been teetotal for the past 6 months unless you can't about 3 tiny sips from DH's glass. I am pretty impressed with myself considering normally I am quite a wino.

I don't really understand the fundal size thing. Some people are huge at say 22 weeks and some are tiny so they both can't maesure 22cms...

Scampmum, My doctor said I shouldn't have smoked salmon. With eggs, you should buy the one's with the red lions stamped on them as the hens have been vaccinated against salmonella but you should still cook them through...

SuzeM · 12/01/2008 10:11

Hope the heads aren't sore after all the carousing. Bloody Marys, anyone?

I haven't been measured either.

I told my dad we were having a girl, he promised to keep it a secret but I found out he told everyone he knows! I wanted it to be a surprise for my grandmother, etc. I can't be annoyed as he is excited but I am definitely not telling him her name until she is born. He would have no hesitation in telling me if he didn't like it. I really want Emilia, still working on my dh to agree. I refer to the baby as Emilia all the time, I am trying to brainwash him. I think it is working , he now says things as like "look in Emilia's room". Ha ha, I'm going to win!

Molly, I know how you feel, my mum died a few years ago, I really miss her around this time, it is tough.

EllieG · 12/01/2008 10:23

I love virtual drinking - no hangover! Am off swimming with DSD in a mo - physio gave me some exercises to do so we're going to practice them together. Just working up the enthusiasm to tear myself away from the sofa/tea/mumsnet/saturday kitchen

Any second now am going to spring into action...

VictorianSqualor · 12/01/2008 11:21

The only time I eat eggs is when I'm pregnant I can't stand them any other time. If you really want them then it's best to get decent ones, free range and lion stamped are a lot less likely to have salmonella, so I do risk it.

I just think when was the last time I heard of anyone with salmonella?? never, so it can't be
that common.

I wouldn't eat anything with uncooked eggs in that I hadn;t made myself though, I want to knwo where those eggs have come from.

I'm sure if anyone has been keeping tabs on the 'free range V's battery' chicken debate you'll see why I say free range are safer.

We got back from our 3D scan a little while ago, and DH has put the pics online so our families can have a look... would anyone like to see them?

It was brilliant, he was lying the wrong way round to start with so I had to go off and have a drink and a walk, and after that he was a bit more compliant!

We saw him doing a couple of little 'smiles' but for modt of the time he had either one or two hands over his face or a foot over his head!

Sonographer commented that he has 'chubby arms and impressive boy bits' to which DH was trying to supress a proud smirk!
