In fact I'm being insomniac after having fallen asleep this afternoon, and now have an idea for a blanket! Have a look at any knitted 'thing' you have in your house... one side is flat and looks like lots of v's, and the other side is lots of wiggly lines. How about, alternating squares of each, 5 squares down by 3 squares across, all in the same colour. And an apple tree in one of the squares? I enjoyed doing the apple tress for mine but they took forever to do loads, one would look lovely though too. If that takes your fancy, decide which kind of yarn you'd like it made from and off we go!!!

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 09:34

Blimey you were up late knitter, I have no trouble getting to sleep i just wake on a reg basis through the night (have done since first pregnancy) then after getting up to go to the loo LO decides to have a little dance around which keeps me awake a bit longer.

Aqua aerobics and a 2nd b-day party today, which will really be the kids having a bit of a play and b-day boy getiing cross coz he wont want to share his toys whilst the mums all sit laughing at the shananigans and drinking coffee. Def better than a working day!

EllieG · 14/01/2008 10:00

Ooo that sounds lovely knitter! I'm all excited now!

I think part wool/part cotton sounds nice for softness and not too hot. The squares and apple tree sound fab

Let me know how much the yarn costs and I will send you some money up front and then when you have done let me know how long it took you and I will send you some more money to cover that and postage costs.

If that's Ok and not too complicated will you email me your address so I can send you some dosh? Mine is e dot green@health dot gov dot je (obviosuly with . not dot) or

Denny & Knitter meeting up sounds like a great Idea, I finish work on the 4th March (can't wait). I'm in Frodsham so kind of in the middle.

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 10:21

Oh we can find somewhere in the middle then shortly after we finish work, yeah something else to look forward to.

Wonder what happened to Scorpio on Sat night?

TLSM · 14/01/2008 10:35

Morning All..... is it Morning not sure as have been up all night with my DS! Now am sitting at work feeling very crappy!

KnitterInTheNW · 14/01/2008 10:45

Ellie... the cheapest places to buy the wool/cotton stuff are these... do you want to have a look at the colours and choose one? Remember we need 8 balls.

www.angelyarns.com/rowan-yarn/rowan-wool-mix.php/rowan/25
(4.25 per ball)

search.ebay.co.uk/Rowan-Wool-Cotton_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQdfspZ32QQfromZR40QQssPageNameZRC0021?_trksid=p1 638.m120
That one's for ebay shops, go to the bottom half of the page where you buy per ball rather than bidding on items. You want one that's 'wool cotton' not anything alse! Bizarrely these shops tend to be in dollars but are based in the UK, and you have to add VAT on at the end. I've used them before though & they're fine.) (£3.06 - £4.08 per ball + VAT)

I'm enjoying this!

There are loads of other places too, the RRP per ball seems to be £4.65.

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 10:45

Thats not good, I presume hes not v well, hope he gets better soon and you can get some sleep.

Sheds75 · 14/01/2008 10:58

this weekend was our fist real baby shopping trip, I promised DP he wouldn't have to come shopping until after xmas....... so off we went to look at prams on Sunday. oh y god, how many things to think about. I want a 3 wheeler and the only one that seemed to tick all the boxes was the Mountian Urban Bugy (how expensive), think I will go back to mothercare and re-try the Urban detour.

It's all so confusing, let a lone expensive, still sooo exciting

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 11:04

Can you find the same one on ebay? Might be able to save yourself a small fortune.

Sheds75 · 14/01/2008 11:12

that i think will be the plan, find one we like and then see what options there are for getting it cheaper on the internte, especially as my mum has offered to buy it (don't want to bankrupt her).

KnitterInTheNW · 14/01/2008 11:13

Definately try ebay, I had my heart set on a Quinny Buzz with carry cot, we got a new with tags still on one from ebay for £360 inc chassis, seat unit, carry cot,& foot muff, if we bought that in mothercare it would have cost just over £500. It was still expensive but not AS expensive!

velbels · 14/01/2008 11:18

My MIL is in the middle of knitting us a blanket for our LO. I am really excited

We have also been looking at Pushchairs and I managed to sustain 2 injuries in Mothercare. I cut my thumb on one and my HB managed to trap my finger in the mechanism of another in putting it up. There I was stuck in the pushchair telling him to put it down and it takes him ages to work out how to do it. We decided not to get either of those 2!

We have been tring to decide whether to bother with a pram type or just go for a stroller as everyone ends up just using that after 6 months anyway. I'm hopeless at decisions!

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 11:18

Hello everyone! Back to work again - can you believe it!?

TLSM - hope your DS is ok? Maybe a sick day would've been in order for you??

DH and I have been discussing names at the weekend. Does anyone have any thoughts on Hannah?

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 11:22

O thats one of those same forward and backward names - the word escapes me at the mo. I like it not too many around

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 11:24

Hi velbels - if it helps at all, I had a big pram for DD and ended up buying a stroller at 6 months for a fifth of the price which is what I've been using ever since. It's mainly because it's easier and lighter to carry around, you can throw it in your car, store it in a corner easily in the pub/coffee shop and it fits through all doorways. The big pram is great for long walks but when our DD was 6 months, we got a backpack and have used that over the buggy every time.

You really need to have a think about how you might use it to decide if it's worth it or not. I also know people who've had HEAPS of use out of their buggy because they literally walk everywhere so it definitely is worthwhile for some people.

We're not buying a double buggy for LO coming along because I don't want the same thing to happen again. Worst case, I'll get a double stroller after LO has arrived and if I think we need it.

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 11:27

Yes, so it is Denny!

Also, I was looking at the lists of most popular names over the past few years and Hannah's been going down the list. It's still high but then I guess names appear on those lists because people like them.

Sheds75 · 14/01/2008 11:31

Really like the name Hannah, if our little one was a girl I would have liked that, although a good friend also has a Hannah so might have been ruled out

velbels · 14/01/2008 11:33

Thanks NEM

I'm thinking we are more likely to go with a stroller, but it's good to hear others opinions.

The added complication is that we have got rid of one of our cars to save money. It's a bit of an unknown whether I will end up having it and HB cycling to work, or he'll have it and I'll be on the bus!

A friend has also said I can borrow pram. Which is fab. So I think I will take a trip to my mum's next week (while HB desserts me to go to the USA for work) and see what she's got. Might solve all the problems!

ToastAddict · 14/01/2008 11:37

Denny - palindrome is the word you are looking for! I know, because I am one!! (Anna - hence Hannah not an option for us, esp since surname starts with "H")

Sounds like a fab hen-do was had by all, sorry I couldn't join in, but work was manic

Sheds - have you looked at the i2i at Babies R Us? It's basically a cheap version of the Quinny Buzz, doesn't click together quite as nicely, but at half the price, I am quite tempted - not sure what boxes you needed to tick, but it's basically a 3 wheeler, with forward and backward facing options (which were my key criteria), and it comes with carrycot and, at the moment, free car seat. Has a bit more space underneath for shopping etc, but still not loads

Sheds75 · 14/01/2008 11:40

Thanks Toast, will check it out

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 12:04

Velbels - borrowing a pram is ideal I would say. Or, you could just get a stroller initially and see how you get on with it, then if you decide you can't live without a pram, buy one later.

TLSM · 14/01/2008 12:07

Oh I wish I could take a sick day but due to the crap that happened on friday thought it best not to! He was coughing all night and because he has reflux it means he is also sick so had to stay with him in case he chokes he seems fine this morning and has gone to nursery its just me that feels pants bed early tonight me thinks!

I have gone for a mamas & papas pramette as its like a carrycot until they can sit up then its a normal stroller also has a little childs step on the back in case DS gets tired.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 14/01/2008 12:18

We are also struggling with what pram to buy! It's worse than choosing a car! So many choices and prices!! We are lucky in that FIL is buying it for us, but still doesn't make our decision any easier! I am also concerned that we buy the whole travel system and then end up wishing we had just bought a stroller! Went to look in Mothercare yesterday and DH really likes the Mothercare Bugster whereas I'm not so keen - and can't even say why! We thought we had out hearts set on the Quiny Buzz, but after hearing so many negs about it we are now undecided! What a mission!! I just want to get one that we will be happy with for the nest few years and not waste FIL's money!

velbels · 14/01/2008 12:44

I quite like the look of the M&P pramette too. My friend has one and she has been really pleased with it. She had it for her 1st (now 5) but she is still using it for her 2nd (nearly 3).
