Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ExpectingKat · 15/01/2008 08:36

lol its the first thing people ask have you packed your bag yet, with me still saying no. I will get it done today just incase, as don't trust DH if have to go straight in to get it right (bless him) I'm a bit the same as you, I go from thinkin it will ok to have c-sec than go through labour and maybe ending up with one anyway, the thing that worries me most I think is actually havin to stay in hospital longer and the recovery as my recovery with others was so quick. I want babies out everything fine and home in hours lol but then don't we all!

ExpectingKat · 15/01/2008 08:40

Got to love the emotions especially last few wks tyaca so up and down, I go from being all excited one minute to I can't cope no longer with pain and everything else, and have tears in my eyes from the smallest of things. I hope you start to feel a bit better as the day goes and have a good time in town

Lucyand2 · 15/01/2008 09:06

Jo - For some reason I've been thinking about this alot recently, I just want baby out so I can make sure she's okay. When they're inside you just don't know whats going on in there! (Or am I just weird?)

bluedomino - I really hope someone sorts stuff out for you as that is a shocking situation! Sometimes the NHS is so crap I've been stuggling with my 19m old DD and feeling faint so my heart goes out to you!

Ty - Aaargh mood swings, I've felt the same on and off as I can't imagine looking after another baby when I love DD so much. Have a good time in town and take your mind off things for a while!

MERLYPUSS · 15/01/2008 09:06

1st babies for me and first c-sect. I have had brain surgery under local before (not nice - long story) so not too phased by the op just the pain of recovery. Oh well, MIL and OH will be on hand to fuss over me. Or I'll sulk.

Bessie123 · 15/01/2008 11:36

Went to see mw this morning.

LO still 2/5 engaged, head down, spine front and to the left, so perfect.

I had a goup B strep test, too - I thought it was going to be horrible but it was nothing, just a little swab.

manamana · 15/01/2008 12:00

Great news Bessie - I don't need group B test cos of CS but would have had if having a natural birth - you can get a private one done but I don't have the details, hopefully someone on here will be more knowldgeable with a relevant link. Its a simple test, can be easily treatable with antibiotics if found and if not found can have v bad results for lo. Sorry - don't mean to be alarmist but its something that a lot of people aren't aware of.
My mum has just phoned and left a message saying she wanted to see how I was Am feeling very nervous about calling her back, am going to call closer to 5 so that if she upsets me it won't be long before dh and ds are home for a hug!

violeta · 15/01/2008 12:34

Hi all,

Just a note about Group B strep. If you have a vaginal swab done for any reason (thrush, etc), they'll test for Group B strep at the same time so there may not be the need to pay for a private test if you can get an NHS one done.

I'm just coming up to 35 weeks, and apparently baby is 3/5 engaged already . MW warned me that she could well make an appearance before her due date, but I've also heard of cases where babies stay where they are for weeks at a time! We shall see!

Bessie123 · 15/01/2008 12:38

I think the test costs about £30/35 if you have it done privately.

Hope all goes ok with your mum today, manamana - let us know.

widgetsmummy · 15/01/2008 12:56

Gosh we talk a lot - only go away for the weekends and it takes ages to catch up!

Did hospital tour on Sat which was reassuring. Labour ward was empty when we got there so was like a set from Casualty! A lady did come in as we were leaving and we could here her moaning - I nearly burst into tears! It is just too hard to imagine what it will be like so it scared me. I think once its me it will be ok...

Bargain news: until today I think Tesco doing Tommy Tippee manual breast pumps, 4 bottle microwave sterilisers and bottles half price. Pump was about £12 and steriliser £9.

So glad Mini and Egg are ok.

Blue - if you can get some child care it may be worth going to A&E or the maternity day assessment unit and getting some help for your iron problems. Sounds terrible - can't believe they are fobbing you off like this.

On the hospital bag front - do we need to take our own nappies and if so, how many? Am hoping for quick discharge, all going well but how many for one day?

Anyway - enough from me. Must have a sleep this afternoon...

Jo9977 · 15/01/2008 13:00

Know EXACTLY how you feel lucyand2! Just want to know everything's alright, but just in case have been asking for reassurance from DH that 'even if he's not, he'll still be really special won't he?'

Yesterday wasn't good 'cos heard that I'd been in contact with someone with shingles (stupid, stupid, stupid person!!!), and although 95% sure had chicken pox, phoned my mum to make sure and she couldn't remember either! So then had to go and see nurse who was really horrible and although my notes say yes I have have, helpfully told me that depending on factors I could get it again...so now have gone for yet another blood test to check for immunity. Oh, and my iron levels are still low even with black poo inducing tablets - grrr. Not even in your league tho' blue so heart goes out to you and I will stop whinging!

Sympathy to all you builder infested ones as well - that is so stressful! Really hope they get their fingers out!

gingermumi · 15/01/2008 13:30

Afternoon ladies!

Has taken me all morning to catch up on thread! Sorry some are feeling down and stressed but not long to go now, and clearly anything can happen so you never know could be sooner than you think.

Mana- sorry Portsmouth wasn't a uge success, did you know chichester has shopmobility too? it's in the carpark behind the big next shop, next to the loos. car park can be a bit awkward to find but i can give you directions if you need them. howare you, any further show? as far as i know it just means you're getting ready for rather than imminently going into labour. Good luck with you mum btw. See end of my note to sally re strep-b testing, if you are concerned about this, st dicks seem to do it when you're admitted.

Lucy - hope you're feeling better now

mini- typical messing around but fab outcome, well done, cograts, gorgeous babies and family.

Rozzy are you ok now?

Blue, again, i don't know why they have to be so inconsistent with advice, it makes me so mad. don't let it drag on hun. you clearly need something, it's not normal to feel like that.

c-sect - Having just had one....I was told 'it's major abdominal surgery' so pass that on to dp! You have to be very careful not to hurt wound by overdoing it. No driving for 6 weeks (can try, if you feel up to it, after 4 weeks but you need to get the ok from your insurance company). No hoovering (how terrible!) and no lifting anything heavier than your baby. Not driving is a bit frustrating and i'm sure that frustration will get worse as weeks go on. I actually feel ok, much better than when i was pregnant but you certainly feel it if you try to do too much. went for a little walk the other day and really felt it, gravity pulls on the scar i guess. They do give you pain killers to take home and you do need them initially, although i'm taking less now. Take any offers of help you can!

Sally, strp-b - i asked about this when i was pregnant and was told that it's not routinely tested for as you can have it one week and not the next so you could test ngative but still have it in labour. You can get it done privtaely, try somewhere that offers private scans - hey see to do this tst too. I was tested for it when i was in hospital so you ask if that's done in your area too. Mana - may be of use to you too.

All ok with us, just usual post natal things. Toby doing well, midwife hopes to discharge us thursday.

gingermumi · 15/01/2008 13:32

widet, at our hosp you anly need to take a nappy for going home but i think this varies from hosp to hosp - i was givn a list of things to take - could you check with mw?

leesmum · 15/01/2008 13:55

SARAH happy 24th birthday for today!!! have a lovely day, are you doing anything special? It's mine and sis's 35th birthday tomorrow, god i can't believe i'm really that old, i still feel about 21 (its a shame i don't look it!)

Anyway enjoy the rest of your day and i'll get on later to catch up with the rest of you properly xxxxx

Egg · 15/01/2008 14:24

Aherm. SQUONK I will never ever ever be having a couple of babies again.

Hello Feb ladies and congrats to mini on the safe arrival of Jack and Abby! Can't believe we were due same day, gave birth same day and both had girl then boy. You clearly managed to feed yours a bit better though. Have not looked at your pics yet so will go away and have a look. Did I miss anyone else giving birth? I am trying to quickly post on my fave threads, but don't have time to catch up properly as have THREE SLEEPING CHILDREN and need to go and rest but want to get on and sort stuff out as well as house is a shitehole.

Hope everyone is ok, will quickly look at mini's pics and then come back later on to hopefully post some pics of my own!

Scary being home....

Oh, birth story is on birth announcements by the way. Will do a link now.

Egg · 15/01/2008 14:29

OK here is link to birth announcement.

Mini your babies are GORGEOUS! They look so much healthier than mine as they actually have some fat! Mine have skinny stick limbs. Jacob does have some jowls though!

Pk616 · 15/01/2008 14:29

Good Afternoon Ladies,

I can't reply personally to peeps today there has just been way to much activity going on on here and I have way less energy than usual - totally my own fault will explain in a mo.

Group B step - I heard the same as ginger, the NHS don't test for it as it comes and goes of it's own accord.

Mana - I'm glad to hear you got out of the house atlast. sounds like you need a bit more practice on those scooters though! you know you can do it! Good luck with your mom.

tyaca - I hope you feel more positive and happier soon. Sending you big cyber hugs.

I have been a daft puddun the last few days. I've basically been nesting (although don't know if it's compelled by hormones or simply the knowledge that from Friday if I go into labour I'm considered term!) I've been moving stuff from one place to another all over the house to try and maximise space, convienient access to stuff and in the hope that I stumble on some more stuff I can get rid of. This in itself has driven my DP up the wall! Most of the time he's just let me get on with it but he has snapped a couple of times asking me to please sit down for a couple of seconds

On friday I noticed someone on freecycle wanted some dining chairs so I thought they could have mine, as they take up so much room, and we could go and get some folding ones for the odd occasion that we need them. Great idea but 3 of the 4 chairs were at a friends house so on Saturday I had to go and collect them. If we had a drive or a guaranteedparking space outside our house this would not have been too much of a problem but we don't and I ended up having to park miles down the road and carry each chair down the road and into the house individually. Thankfully the man who collected them on Sunday took one look at my preggie belly and wouldn't let me help him out to the car with them.
On Sunday my mom called to tell me that she'd emptied the wardrobe in her spare room and dimantled it and could I empty mine so that she could come straight over and we could swap - moms wardrobe has a much larger capacity than mine!
so I did and then I dismantled our wardrobe and got all stubborn and insisted on helping with the moving about of the various wardrobe parts.
Anyway time ran out before we could erect moms wardrobe in our bed room so DP and I agreed that he'd do it with my help just to support parts on Monday night.
Yesterday afternoon I decided to take the bits of the wardrobe upstairs by myself (the side panels themselves are almost as tall as the ceiling!) after having done this I still felt energised and was feeling no ill effects so I decided I was going to try and put the thing up by myself. I did and I was dead proud of myself. The only thing I couldn't do was hang the doors as I didn't have the strength. I then filled the doorless wardrobe with all our stuff and realised that I was feeling a little the worse for wear. I was going to have a nap but a friend can over and scuppered that idea!
Anyway, I've woken up today and I feel like death. My hips feel totally useless and I'm knackered.
I've been having a pain a bit like period pain in the underside of my bump since last Wednesday. I thought that it was probably a water infection or something. Saw the midwife today and no it's Braxton Hicks! This is a family first! Neither my mother, grandmother or great aunty had any Braxton Hicks. they didn't even get proper contractions in labour! I told my mom and she's all excited cause it means I should have an easier time than they did, apparently!
Anyway this is whats been going on on planet PK! I hope you all have a good day.

saskia71 · 15/01/2008 14:38

Many congratulations to all the new mums. It?s so heart-warming to hear about the babies and that everyone is doing well.

I saw my two consultants last week. The fetal one did the usual scan, and amniotic fluid level, blood flow etc are very good. The baby has been head down for weeks, but fortunately not engaged. The cons did not think that I would be having the baby early from the scan data, which is reassuring since I need to eek out this pregnancy to week 39 (c-section date). My obs and I had a chat about the operation in greater detail and analgesia. My obs prefers his patients to have spoken with the anaesthetist before hand as a get to know you procedure and to discuss any issues, (it is the anaesthetist who is in charge of a c-section at my hospital). It is also weekly visits to my obs now until the delivery.

I still have my hospital bags to do, but since I only need to provide the baby?s going home outfit it should not be too bad. Also, John Lewis is walking distance from the hospital so my husband can pick up any shortfalls. I am booked in for five nights at the hospital, so hopefully will be well rested by the time I leave, (the midwives are able to look after the baby in the nursery for as much time as required).

Sorry to hear that some of you are struggling with various things. Just remember it?s only a few more weeks and then we will have our babies, health and sanity back.

Lucyand2 · 15/01/2008 14:50

Not so sure about the sanity....I spent the first few weeks with DD in a confused daze. I'd wake up and start looking for her in the bed even though she was clearly in her moses basket. Also DP and I would wake up, get all ready to change her the discover DD was still fast asleep. Spent lots of time dozing off into my meals too!

sarahmikeandharry · 15/01/2008 14:52

thanks for the birthday wishes Leesmum!!!!

Having good day- not doing much, just playing with DS catching up on here and eating!!!,

DH is taking me out to dinner this evening so that will be nice!!!

Have a great birthday tomorrow- u got any plans?

PK16- You mad thing!!!!

Think your body is screaming for a rest!!!! Hope you feel ok though!!!!Bet you DP was not a happy bunny that you didn't wait!!!lol

Egg your birth story is great, thanks for the details and well done!!!

alkar · 15/01/2008 15:06

Hope you have a lovely night out tonight Sarah, happy birthday.

Egg - just had a look at the pics - both gorgeous, can't wait to meet mine now!

gingermumi · 15/01/2008 15:52

gorgeous babies egg!

gingermumi · 15/01/2008 15:52

gorgeous babies egg!

Amy78 · 15/01/2008 16:19

Ohhh Egg - They are soo gorgeous.

manamana · 15/01/2008 16:55

Congratulations Egg - read your story and yes you should be proud of yourself, woo-hoo! They are soo gorgeous. V pleased to hear that they do all sleep at the same time sometimes, lets hope they get a lot of practise of that!
Ginger - great to hear from you too. Thanks for the info re strep b although my mw said cos i'm having cs i don't need it [confused emoticon]. And for the tip re Chichester shop mobility although as its where i work (and i work for a big company with lots of people) i would be worried about bumping into someone - literally, with my steering skills!!! - my capacity for work-related small talk has completely left me. Cannot believe that this time last pg I was still at work, although body was in much better shape that time!
Happy Birthday Sarah
PK - can understand completely you mad woman! But be careful! My tv watching is completely out the window at the mo. I just keep doing little jobs that involve pottering round very slowly - have washed all baby toys today and been drying them round the house, need to get them hidden before ds comes home and gets his grubby toddler mits on them! I know once new ds is here I will lose fight to keep baby things nice and clean but determined to at least have them clean to start with!
Have called my mum back but no reply so just left a message....

bluedomino · 15/01/2008 17:22

Hi ladies, thanks for all your lovely messages, I cried all the way through them!!!
for a change!
Well, my midwife seems to have been kicking some bottoms, as I'm going into hospital tomorrow morning at 10 for an iron infusion, it should take about 6 hours, but I shouldn't have to stay the night. I'm a bit nervous but its preferable to a blood transfusion. Taking a good book and my ipod, and going to try to rest as much as possible. Been overdoing it a bit today as I've been batch cooking for DD, she has multiple allergies so can't eat anything bought. Theres no room in freezer for grown up food now.
PK slow down girl, don't overdo it.
Mana, hope things get better with your mum, but maybe shes not the person to have around when your getting over the csection. Think calm and all that!

Thanks for the advice on csections and recovery. I find it hard to accept help without feeling sooo guilty. I find it easier to have the house in a complete tip rather than let my mum come and clean it, which she offers to do all the time. I'm applying for DLA soon and if I get it, its going straight on a cleaner.

Take care everyone, resist the urge to nest to madly. x
