Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congratulations Bambino!

Amani, yes the MW does the sweep during your normal antenatal appointment. After she's felt my bump and heard the heartbeat she gives me a min to get ready (e.g put blanket over my bits and remove lower clothes) then gets on with it.
Today I had the not so nice MW who I don't rate at all which is a shame as I was hoping the other MW would do her stuff! (it was her sweep with DD that set me off). Cervix was a bit further forward and squishy but not favourable and she wasn't able to sweep the membranes (basically I'm not dilating at all yet, clamped shut in fact!).
So, I don't hold out hope for going into labour yet. Got an induction date of 27th Dec (next Thurs) and like Lizzer will mean going in that night. Was a bit concerned that with 2nd timers when I go in if I am even 1 cm dilated they will break my waters instead of giving gel or pessary to start me off - am concerned because I'm Group Strep B that will mean an awful lot of Antibiotics (have to have every 4 hrs).

However, we have to stay positive and hope soemthing happens in the meantime.

Good luck Lizzer with your induction, hope it all goes well and look forward to hearing your news.

Beanster, DD's weight gain is fantastic well done! We used colycynthis granules for DD after a BF councellor at the Queen Mums recommended them. Seemed to help her with her symptoms so worth a shot IMO.

macdoodle · 21/12/2007 16:44

Oh well babe is breech and well and truly bum stuck in pelvis - I reckon she never turned as MW thought few weeks ago and has been stuck like that since they first thought about 4 weeks ago....
Bit shellshocked lots of options saw consultant I know well - he is lovely (and I work with his wife which helps)....don't think can deliver vaginally as large baby with bum wedged in pelvis...
Another consultant who does lots of ECV (turning) will try and turn her next Thur ...if that fails then section booked for next Fri ...
Trying to look on bright side (healthy baby healthy me no pain) but feel bit cheated - as this is my second had long hard labour with vacuum at end and large episiotomy and was determined to do all the "right" things - walking bathing bouncing ball avoid epidurtal if I could and pop this one out and be home with DD same day....
Now have to have section and 3 day hospital stay and recovery ...and my dad is coming out 6 weeks later and we are supposed to be going to London and then to Center Parcs - oh dear !
Oh and me and H seperated so he will have to move back in for while to help

Poppy10 · 21/12/2007 18:21

Hi All,

Well joining the overdue club now. Due date yesterday and not the remotest twinge yet. I'm actually ok about it being late as there is so many things I'd still like to do beforehand, like finish making the living room curtains (started 6 months ago) and choose our wedding photos (married 2 years ago!), things that I'm guessing are so unlikely to get done once LO arrives!

I so don't want to be induced, but the other thing is that my DH is a builder and not paid when he's not working, so he actually stopped work yesterday and is off through to 3rd January, so if it came any day now the timing would be perfect as whatever extra time he takes off after 3rd Jan is more time unpaid.

I had my MW appointment on Thursday at 39+6 and she asked if I wanted to book my induction for 40+14, but I said no I'd rather go for daily monitoring after that. What I hadn't realised is that if you go over 2 weeks overdue they don't let you use the birth centre and you have to be continously monitored. MW also explained that baby's back is to the right (is that what posterior means?)and so isn't in the best position to get labour started, so I went swimming last night, walked round the shops with heavy shopping bags for hours today and have booked an acupuncture appointment for tomorrow to try whatever I can to get things going. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of acupuncture helping?

I have some clary sage too, but don't know what to do with it. Do I add it to a bath or massage onto my tummy with carrier oil? How much and how often?

Also got a sweep booked for 40+7, on Thu 27th,so hopefully that and the acupuncture will help.

Oh and while I was waiting for my MW appointment the other day, a woman in the birth centre was at the pushing stage and was screaming very loudly which completely terified me

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 19:23

Hi Poppy,

Clary sage - stick in your bath, add to some massage oil and get DH to massage your bump and back, put some on a tissue and inhale it. Lots you can do with it. Not always guaranteed to work!

loucee · 21/12/2007 20:59

welcome to the OD club Poppy. I've got clary sage in the oil burner at the moment, and like bouncing says you can mix with carrier oil (a few drops) then massage into your bump. I only bought mine last night as I thought the price of it was expensive but now I'm 4 days over I'm trying everything!
Had no idea that back to the right might not bring on labour, posterior is when the back is to your back. My little one also favours spine to my right hand side.

Macdoodle, you've briefly mentioned your situation with DH but I had no idea you've separated, hope you are ok and that him moving back in for the a period will be a help not a hindrance to your stress levels. Best of luck with the ECV and like you say if that doesn't work then an elective section will mean healthy mum and baby and from what I've read the recover is so much quicker/better than an emergency cs.

Thinking of Lizzer, hope her induction is going well and also Suey - haven't heard since your waters broke so I presume your contractions must've started up again and hope you are holding a wee baby right now.

macdoodle · 21/12/2007 21:12

Now just gotta avoid going into labour before Friday as that would mean emergency section...aggghhh doing my head in

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 21:56

As to the clary sage oil, if you want to put it in your bath, mix it first with a tiny bit of milk - just about an eggcup full. It helps make the oil dispurse. If you put the oil directly in the bath, you wil just see a drop here, and a drop there, floating around and not mixing with the water. Its meant to be full fat milk, but I use skimmed as thats what I usually buy and it seems to do the trick. I was advised 8 drops, but as I am getting further on, I have actually often used a bit more than that! But I won't tell you to do it, just in case! Also, the cheapest place to buy clary sage oil is holland and barratt, and its buy one get one free at the moment, which is what I did. If you are putting it on your skin, make sure it is diluted! If you want to dilute yourself, use 10 drops of clary sage oil to 10ml of a carrier oil. If not, you can buy it ready blended.

thingamajig · 21/12/2007 22:40

Hi all, and congrats to Bambino. Its my due date today, looks like its going to come and go with no sign of baby.
But I didnt really expect her to be bang on time. Read somewhere that only 5% of babies arrive on d day, and 80% are late. Don't know how this works, I cant see why they dont calculate your d date so theres a 50% chance of it happening either side. Anyone know?
Poppy, posterior means back to back, which is bad, so baby being on the right hand side is pretty good, though not as good as baby's back to the left, though I dont think that it makes much difference. My active birth teacher is very keen on this sort of thing. Theres more about this at spinningbabies.com/
Good luck to everyone, Awen things sound like they are really happening

becklesparkle · 22/12/2007 00:04

Congrats to NBG and Bambino (wow, sounds like a great birth!)!!!

Suey & Awen, sounds like things are really getting going for you both! Fingers crossed and hoping all goes smoothly!

Lizzer, it is hard to know what to do. If you are in hospital for DD's birthday could you have a little celebration there for her?

Ozzy, it is normal for 2nd and subsequent babies to engage and un-engage so although it feels like you are going backwards, you are not! My LO hasn't yet been more than 1/5 into the pelvis at any MW appt but probably has been at other times.

Chloemegjess, hi and welcome!

Beanster, glad LO is thriving and the feeding is going well!

Skid, love the name Milo, its lovely! Can't wait to join you P/N ladies!

Macdoodle, sorry your LO is still breech, hope that the ECV manages to turn her. At least they realised she was before you were actually in labour! I know how important the way they give birth is for many women but I feel, from what you have said, that you have already done the best you can to give this LO a good start and however she comes into the world you will continue to do so.

Amani, I reckon that your BHs must be doing some good if they are painful underneath. I think that is the feeling of the neck of the cervix 'rolling back' and thinning. For me I had it for 2 days solidly with both DSs but some people have it over a few days/weeks on and off I think.

I got all excited yesterday as I was getting strong BHs approximately every 10-15 minutes from about 2pm until I went to bed! Had barely any today though and only a couple have been really strong so baby obviously still not ready yet. Sounds like a daft question but can you feel your own cervix? Would like to know how mine is doing!!!

buzzybee · 22/12/2007 02:23

Macdoodle - must be doing your head in. I know what you mean about the idea of coping as a single mum after a c/s. Is it the thought of the caring for the baby or your older DD that worries you more? If the latter, are there ways other than having H move back in that could help - e.g. could she spend more time with him at his place?

I know for my part I will be happily encouraging my DD1 to stay over at her Grandma's as often as she wants! I also have a student nanny starting on 28 Jan (so LO will be about 4 weeks) who will be living with us and hoping she can help with a lot of the drudgery and leave me to enjoy the nice stuff

My due date by LMP today too!! Or tomorrow if you take the scan date. Went for a 3 mile walk this morning and although was feeling quite achey by the end I think that was more ligaments than anything else

It's ridiculous but I now wake up in the mornings feeling quite disappointed that I've had a good night's sleep...

Hiya Girls, wishing you all the best - good luck suey. I cannot believe I had a bump a week ago! Wishing you some ache free sleeps before your cute babies are born and I'm gonna steal your uptodate babies born list for us in PN as we're too sleep deprived to know what day it is never mind keep the list upto date! Oh but it's just sooooo worth it isn't it . Lets hope some more babies pop before Xmas, so you can have your champers.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 08:47

Morning, hope everyone had a good nights sleep!

Nothung happening here, what's worse is I am now constipated. Worried that this will delay things. Been taking lactulose to try and get things moving again plus eating bran flakes as well.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 09:16

Forgot to mention, Macdooddle, my SIL had an emcs first baby, and because the chances were very high she was going to have the same again on her second, she had an elcs. She recovered much more quickly from the elcs than the emcs.
So fingers crossed that baby either moves of it's own accord or the baby moving procedure works or that baby hangs on til Friday!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/12/2007 09:32

Morning everyone

I didnt have best sleep as was too busy shagging trying to bring the baby on heheh

Needless to say it didnt work!

I have the most amazingly sore pelvis and fan (not from the above - honest!) it really feels bruised and sore, hoping its because baby is really low now)

Ive just been really lazy and rung and booked a blow dry because Im going out tonight and cant even be bothered to wash my hair!

Hope someone has a baby today, would be lovely to give birth and be home in time for Christmas Eve wouldnt it? Wont be me, not due til Boxing day and tend to be a late cooker.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 11:59

Amani has had her baby this morning .
Not sure if boy or a girl though!

birth announcement

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 12:01

Still feeling tired and bit constipated. No more twinges since yesterday.

My botty hole is sore Think it would help if I had another bath?

WizzskaRedbreast · 22/12/2007 12:16

Congratulations Amani!!! Hello everyone who is still here. Sorry you're all still waiting.

I'm having a few minutes to catch up with you all while DH has taken Rory to the supermarket.

I'm knackered, 3 hrs sleep last night. Am really p*ssed off with the amount of visitors I'm having. DH tends to encourage them a bit too much for my liking. I've had people over every day this week, when all I want is to be alone to sleep when lo is asleep. Last night really took the biscuit imo. We had some friends DH had invited for dinner. By 10.00 pm I was exhausted. DH's friend who has a 5 yo daughter was saying how its good to sleep when your baby does. I looked at gorgeous sleeping baby, and then at him and thought, yes, I'd be bloody asleep if you'd only F- off home!

On the plus side, have managed to BF in a public place for the first time, in a local cafe. It helps that its winter and I have a big scarf for modesty.

Tits still a nightmare of pain. When will they harden off?

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 12:23

Well done Wizzka for BF in public! I think you need to put you foot down with DH, you need your sleep more than other people need to coo over your lo. My NCT buddy told me that one!

chloemegjess · 22/12/2007 12:25

Hello all!

My due date is still listed on here as 24th dec. Its not! Its tomorrow, which is 23rd!

Woke up in the night with wet knickers! Can't decide if I should phone midwife as it wasn't loads, but could have been my waters! Having no contraction or anything, although I have pains in/around my pelvis.

Also, got pains "down there" and when I cough or sneeze, it's horrible and really hurts! Not great when you have a cough or cold!

Can't believe I am due tomorrow. Always thought baby would come early!

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 12:30

Chloe - it will do, you can't edit posts. You have to copy and paste it into a new post and then edit it.
Just had another birth announcement from Amani, waiting for some more details about her lo and then will up date the list.
How are you doing today, btw - any more contractions? I've had none today feeling really grotty tbh!

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 12:31

Sorry, should have read your post more thoroughly! Good news about the show - IKWYM about coughs and sneezes.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/12/2007 12:47

Congratulations Amani!!

Caz10 · 22/12/2007 17:27

Congrats all! And sending be-born-soon vibes to those still waiting.

Wizzska I am getting and with vistors too, can't believe how many people turn up unannounced. If I get a sleep in the afternoon I am really coping ok with the nights, but if people are in and I miss it the night becomes a nightmare! Was in tears the other night cos felt I physically couldn't stay up till end of (never-ending) feed! It's lovely seeing people and it's nice when people text to arrange something, but the ones who turn up...grrrr.

Bouncingturtle, not that it's funny, but at your sore bits...I told midwife that if i didn't know better I'd have sworn that's where baby came from - it's where I felt all the pain and pressure before, during and after!!

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 22/12/2007 18:47

At least I know it's normal, but it is getting unbearable. Just wish this baby would hurry up!

buzzybee · 22/12/2007 19:45

Really thought something was happening yesterday afternoon as started getting really bad cramps. This after going for 3 mile walk then planting a rose in the garden so seemed a possibility. Thought I'd keep things moving by going down the local hardware/garden store then when arrived suddenly felt desperate urge for loo and turned out it was bowel cramps! (sorry if TMI!) Had to rush home again and spent next hour on loo...and all stopped
Bit strange tho as had only eaten plain stuff in the 24 hours preceding.
LO still squirming away merrily so no worry there thankfully.
Anyway off now to do a big Xmas shop before the rush (not quite 9am) as looks like will still be here on Xmas day waiting so may as well make the most of it

Congrats amani !!
