hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
loucee · 20/12/2007 22:06

Amani , yes I now think it is a show because I've had more gunky stuff stained pinky/brown (not getting excited though as know you can have this way before labour!).

My MW tried to give me a sweep last Thursday (at 39 + 3) but my cervix was too far back and closed she said she would try to sweep as long as the baby's head was in my pelvis (at the time I was 4/5ths engaged - think that's right, only a tiny bit engaged not 1 off being fully engaged). I would definitely ask her to try.

Awen, I imagine it's really frustrating having on and off pains varying in strength and duration, really hope this is it for you and that you can get some rest also.

Buzzy, hope the accupuncture works - if nothing else enjoy the session.

Hello! I am new to this site but due 23rd dec. Can I please join in?

HoHoHousemum · 21/12/2007 00:03

Hi Chloemegjess - welcome to the thread - and hopefully to the postnatal one soon!

Amani - so long as you are "full term" you can have a sweep - I had mine today at 38+5, head mostly engaged so that may have been why she agreed, though saying that I had asked before she even had felt the bump - if the cervix is still firm, they shouldn't try to do any more as it is likely to be uncomfortable and unproductive. If they feel the cervix is low and "squashy", they will usually go ahead. I did read something that explained the cervix change in my "What to expect" book - normally it feels like your nose - firm and unyielding - but "ripens" to feel more like your lips - more squashy for want of a better word! HTH.

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 05:16

Hello again. Yes will hopefully be on the postnatal boards soon - just depends if its jan or december! HOPEFULLY it will be december!

As to the sweep topic, my midwife has said she will not do a sweep till 41weeks. Maybe this is to do with having my 40week appointment on xmas eve? Not a good time to be trying to sway labour!

Have had lots of signs of labour starting, hense being awake at this time!! Going to try and get some sleep soon, when my husband goes to work. I hope it is the start of labour, but I have been having signs for about a week so not getting too excited, although they get stronger by the day. Have had 2 "shows", contractions, that at one point were every 30mins ish, but then slowed down, lots of discharge etc, baby is definatly fully engaged and can feel her head "down there" everytime I walk and it keeps making me need to wee! Have also had lots of backache, restlessness, sickness etc.

Drives me mad all the "not knowing"!!!

loucee · 21/12/2007 08:22

Morning

Welcome Chloe hope you don't have long to wait for your little one. By the sounds of things your body is gearing up for little one's arrival.

Housemum - that's exactly how my midwife described the cervix to me (like your nose then your lips and then your lips gently pouting outwards).

Off to the MW this morning for my 40+4 appointment, she's going to do a sweep (here's hoping my cervix is in good enough way for one).

Awenamanger · 21/12/2007 08:50

Got some sleep between 1.30ish and 4am. Woke with very bad lower back pain which went round to front. Also felt pressure in my bottom. Been having pains about every 4 min more painful than yesterday. Trying to avoid calling hospital incase it is a false alarm or that everything stops when there due to an environment I am really not happy in. Re show - i havent had a obvious show although have had lots of milky/clear discharge.

bambino1andbigbump · 21/12/2007 09:01

Hi Everyone!

Charlie was born on sunday 16th (1 day late)!

Contractions started at 6am. Got in the bath and they were coming really close together. Rung hosp and they said come in so I could be examined.
At 10.30am I was only 2cm and cervix really thick so I was sent home.
Spent a few hours doing house work and getting bits ready.
By 3pm I was punching walls in pain. Headed back to hosp and was examined at 4pm to find out I was 7cm!
Next hour I was out of it on gas and air then waters broke by themselves at 5pm. Headed to the birthing pool, stopping every 30 secs to have contractions. Got in pool at 5.15pm and immediately had urge to push. Onepush later Charlie was out! Born at 17.22. I was in shock, dh crying eyes out that he had a boy and sil gobsmacked at speed and being the one to see it all from action end!
We are very proud and excited about christmas and dd is made up with baby brother!

Congratulations to everyone else who has had babies in the last week. x x

bambino1andbigbump · 21/12/2007 09:05

Oh Charlie weighed a healthy 8lb 3oz (lighter than dd)!!!

Amani · 21/12/2007 09:33

Congratulations bambino - enjoy Xmas with your new addition.

Loucee - good luck with the sweep. How long did it take and was it painful? Did your mw do it for you at your normal antenatal appointment or do you have to go into hospital for it?

Lizzer · 21/12/2007 09:44

Congratulations Bambinoandnobump! Wow,that's an excellent birth story and Charlie is my dd's favourite name for a boy (we aren't choosing it though so she's annoyed with us!)

Welcome Chloe, doesn't sound like you've long to wait so fingers crossed for you Have you any other children?Do you know what you are having?

Ok well I'm sorry about the bad language but I'm SO F$&%ING PISSED OFF!!!!! Woke up stupidly early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep knowing it was my last day for a lie in for ooo about 5yrs!! I've got constant dull achy period pain and probably just need a big poo! The £30 accupuncture session hasn't done a lot (and it hurt!) I'm already angry with the hospital staff and the food even though I'm not getting induced til 6pm tonight.. WHAT"S WRONG WITH ME??!!!!!! I'm fuming, I can barey be nice to dp and he hasn't done anything wrong (other than chew really loudly!!)

Seriously, I have to calm down and accept my fate of possibly being hospital til dd's birthday on sun, definitely getting induced and that might not work straight away (3days for dd) OR I have to make the decision not to go in tonight and be made to feel like I'm putting baby at risk and possibly having to go in on xmas day... Sorry for the ramble,

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 11:41

Just a quick one from me, no internet so posting from DH's phone. More vague symptoms similar to Chloeandjess (hello there!). Baby very low down now. Congrats to Bambino! Lizzer I feel your frustration! Try to keep calm pretty sure it's all those hormones making you cranky!

claraquitetirednow · 21/12/2007 11:58

Good luck everyone - am trying to follow all the developments but it goes so quick I can't keep up!
Hope to see more of you over on the postnatal board soon....

Beanstermummy · 21/12/2007 12:29

Happy Christmas in advance to you all and congratulations to those with new babies and chin up , it'll soon be your turn to those still waiting.

Sorry I've not been on for ages - funny how these little tiny people seem to take over your entire day isn't it! 1st sort of normal day really for us here as DH is back at work (for 1 day which also involves his Xmas do??

SO far DD2 is doing great - at 11 days old she had gone from 7lb 4ooz to 8lb 6oz which even the HV double checked!! Whatever I'm doing milk wise is obviously working though. She's actually great and has settled into a rough 4 hrs feeding pattern (I do say rough as in the evening is sometimes goes a bit odd but in the night and daytime is really good). She's having problems with wind a bit though which isn't nice for her - HV suggested Colosynth crystals if any one has had any experience of them?

Anyway - apologies for not being specific with congrats etc but hope everyone has a fab festive period and I'll try and catch up soon - I wonder who will have a true Xmas baby??

skidaddle · 21/12/2007 12:45

hi all

congrats bambino - what a lovely birth story

suey - yaayyy - look forward to hearing - won' t be long now

awen - sounds v. promising, keep us\posted

lizzer - poor you - totally understand your frustration and really really hope you get back for your dd's bday

ds is definitely Milo - he is doing brilliantly (despite me having mastitis, a retained memrane and a vaginal infection - nice) - he is so laid back and easy to look after - and he has a lot to put up with - constant stream of kisses, hugs and poking from dd and screaming from me during feeds (due to mastitis - now much better)

can't wait till we are all over on the postnatal thread - not long now....

Lizzer · 21/12/2007 13:13

Final post before hospital. Calmed down a bit now...

Forgot to say that I haven't a clue how phone internet thingy works and not sure if hospital has wifi , so if you don't hear for a few days its because of that.

Good luck and best wishes to you all, you've all been so great and I can't wait to be on the post natal side soon...Will try and get on to mn before xmas, but just in case Merry Baby Christmas to you all....

macdoodle · 21/12/2007 13:45

Nervy for scan hope MW is wrong !

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 13:51

Macdoodle - fingers crossed!

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 14:02

I am so tired today, finally got to sleep at about 5.30am and then slept till 11am.

To answer questions...I don't have any other children, this is my first. I am expecting a girl - scan better be right as everything is pink!

Is nice hearing everybodys birth stories, know that will be me soon! With a bit of luck!

Really thought it was happening last night but all stopped again tonight!

Is anybody else feeling like they really can't be bothered to do the housework? I have felt like this for a few days, and things are getting on top of me. However its strange as I have been obssessed with cleaning and sorting for weeks and suddenly just gone the opposite. Any tips on getting motivated to getting it done? I am having a home birth so don't want it to be dirty! Also, don't want to add to the work I will have to do when baby arrives!

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 14:06

Cloe - the whole nesting instinct has passed me by too lol. I did have a big cleaning blitz when I first started M/L, but just been doing minimum to keep things clean and tidy now.
A lot of it is because I feel so uncomfortable - especially my feet, can't stand for very long because the arches in my feet have dropped!

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 14:11

Just thought I'd update, hope I haven't missed any babies! Chloe - I've added you in, I am right about your due date aren't I?

Amani · 21/12/2007 14:31

Welcome Chloe. All the best with your hospital appointment Lizzer.

Feeling really painful underneath my bump again, coming and going every ten minutes. Is this B-H if it is under?

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 14:37

Just read through the updates of who is waiting and who has had babies. I seem to be down as due 24th - I am actually due on the 23rd. If I put the wrong date in somewhere then sorry!

My cats don't help me when tidying up, the climb over everywhere and knock everything over. They have also started molting for some reason - even though its december!

I have a feeling that today is going to really drag out as I am in one of those lazy moods where I am just sitting doing nothing, which I think is the worst thing you can do!

fifisworld · 21/12/2007 14:45

Just a quick post to say i hope you all have a lovely xmas, and a message to all those babies still waiting to come out.....HURRY UP!!!
Your mummys are wanted over on the post-natal thread

Amani · 21/12/2007 14:47

Choloe am having a lazy day too (aside from the pain). Trying to get DD to fall asleep so I can have a soak in the bath.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 21/12/2007 14:57

Ooh Chloe - I might have got that wrong - we're due date buddies - how exciting!!!
