Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dundeemarmalade · 18/12/2007 18:43

evening all.
happy due date to me. ha ha ha.
had 40 wk mw appt this morning, all positive and cheery on walk into town with dh only to find out that the blood tests taken at 38 wks show that my platelet levels are now officially low (119). which means i've got to go into hull royal rather than much closer and nicer mw-led unit. can't believe nobody contacted me to tell me my test results were abnormal- was assured by mw that if anything came up they'd be in touch! And mw that we saw today got v worried about scan results from 36 wks (was suggestion of sfd/iugr but this dismissed by consultant), despite that my fundal height is now fine so in addition to this we've got to go to the day unit tomorrow for monitoring and another scan, and go through the whole palaver again.
is it too late to get a dog instead of a baby?

loucee · 18/12/2007 22:04

Caz - I'd get some Lansinoh cream in, it's magic for sore nipples. Need to find out why it's sore - do you think her latch has changed at all? Does your nipple look out of shape after she's been feeding, squished at all?
The cabbage leaves are so soothing, think people use them for inflamation as well as discomfort.

dundee - sorry you've had a spin put on your appointment today, sounds anything but routine. Hope the monitoring goes well tomorrow, just think another chance to see your wee one in your belly.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 19/12/2007 04:03

Well I think things may be happening, but not sure. Still getting tummy ache on and off and had a couple of contractions yesterday. Can't sleep atm coz can't get comfy - right shoulder is aching as well as hips! Plus horrible heartburn as usual!
Lower backache keeps coming and going as well.

BunnyBaby · 19/12/2007 06:57

Well, we may have progress.

Had light contractions from Tues evening and all day yesterday until 5pm. 8 mins apart lasting for 1 min.

Went to hospital for monitoring yesterday, and they wheeled out consultant obs, as I am now outside their parameters. We reluctantly agreed to induction this Thursday. The obs also did a sweep and my goodness did it hurt! Apparently she could get 2 fingers in cervix which is good.

From the hospital I went to me reflexologist for another induction, and it knocked me out as it was such a deep treatment. It also stopped the contractions I'd been having.

I took this as a sign to leave alone tonight and rest, so we went to bed and I had a bloody show just as we were going to bed, which continued through the night.

At 5am I was awoken by 5min contractions 1min apart, so rang midwife who was getting ready to come out. However since I got up they've died back down to 8 mins.

Am just going to rest up today, and DH will work from home, and we'll see if anything fires up. Surely not another false start?

suey2 · 19/12/2007 08:15

exciting bunny! hope this is it BT.

LOL dundee- I have been thinking exactly the same thing!

I have had a sloughy discharge (sorry) since my attempted sweep on monday. Still intermittent BHs and period pains- enough to get me out of bed this morning.

Have totally changed tactics. Now i know my cervix is shut, i am finding the position which causes me maximum discomfort at the tops of the cervix and staying there. All of the forward positions tended to produce a lot of pressure in the groins, rather than further back. I am also convinced that the upright postures are having minimal effect because my abdos are so strong and are actually holding my baby off the cervix. I have to deiberately relax in order to get a further descent of the bump.
We'll see.

Hey bouncing and bunny - hope this it it for you guys.

FurryFox · 19/12/2007 08:48

Bouncing - Did you get back to sleep? Fingers crossed this is the start of things for you.

Bunny - Can sympathise with you on the sweep that hurt. The one I had yesterday was so painful, am sure the two I had with DD 2 years ago didn't feel like that but then maybe I am choosing not to remember Hope this isn't another false start for you and that things get going soon .

Suey - I hope this is the start of things for you too, all these BHs must mean something and the discharge must be a good thing too surely . Glad all the tenants are clubbing together and hope this takes some of the stress off you

Hi to everyone else. Have a hacking cough at the moment which is driving me mad and everytime I cough it maks my head hurt, oh well, could be worse

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 19/12/2007 09:01

Yes I got some more sleep - just got up!
Not getting too excited since from the experiences I have seen here, I could be like this for days!
Bunny - hope those contractions start back up again soon!
Suey2 - hope things happen for you soon as well - you must be terribly frustrated by now!

Lizzer · 19/12/2007 09:29

Morning, oh I got so upset last night...hopefully hormonal, i was ready to leave dp!! (not that he'd done anything bad other than catch a cold lol! Shit sleep as well, might have a nap now...

Tries clary sage for 1st time last night and got regular bh's for about 3 hrs but that's it. Going to go for walk today and bake mince pies (I'm that bored)

Suey, glad you've got a few people willing to fight your corner with the lift problem.. And what do you mean by 'position' with your cervix?

Bunny, I hope you start on your own, you've done sooooooo well to keep them off yourback, but don't look at it as a failure if you have to go in tomorrow (says me, who feels like shit about the thought of going in on fri!!)

BT,sounds promising though, everyone's different..

Dundee, no that's fine just take youself down to pets at home and swap your baby for any small furry creature they have in stock - i'll meet you there

BunnyBaby · 19/12/2007 10:23

Hi Girls it's all quietened down here now! I honestly though the 5min extremely painful and real contractions were "it".

Either way - it'll be a spontaneous labour here in next 24hrs or hospital.

The hospital said I have to ring at 8am, not go straight in as they check for availability of beds - do any of you second timers know if that sounds like normal protocol?

Bunny

Awenamanger · 19/12/2007 10:47

morning all. Have had pains too throughout the night - around 8 - 10 min apart. Not really painful tho so probably yet another false alarm Had a clear out and felt quite sick too. MW due out in about an hour or so for AN so will see what she says.

xxx

skidaddle · 19/12/2007 11:14

hi all, just popping in to see how you are getting on

furry - i am so on your behalf - the way you have been treated is appalling and good on youir lovely DH for telling them when you will and won't accept an induction - as if it is their decision as to when you have YOUR baby - as you say you are only just past your dd so plenty of time yet

bouncing - sounds v. promising

bunny - good to know it'll be soon whatever happens but fingers crossed for you that he'she'll come of their own accord

suey - sorry you're having such a rubbish time and at the 6.5K

think ds is going to be called Milo (although was Ruari yesterday so don't hold me to it) - will post pic asap

good luck everyone else!!!

suey2 · 19/12/2007 11:28

hi Skid!

Thanks you for all the support guys.

Lizzer i have found that i get more sharp pains at the top of my vagina/ bottom of cervix if i am semireclined and relaxed. The baby moves more in this position too. When i have been sitting bolt upright or leaning forwards there has been constant pressure but in the groin/ top of hip. So i am semireclining more.

Have booked to go to the theatre tonight at the last minute for my mum's last night in london. Fabulous review in today's paper- 5 stars- so was lucky to get tickets.

keeping busy all?

ozzymoomoo · 19/12/2007 11:57

I just want to say congrats to everyone who's had their babys now, but i am REALLY .
Only 38+3 myself but feel like it's gonna be any day now. Maybe it's just wishful thinking!! Waking up every morning dissapointed that my waters haven't broken yet!!! Keep telling myself that this is gonna be my dh and I's ONLY xmas together alone as ds1 is with his dad this year and obviously next year and all subsequent years I'll have at least one child but I still want it to happed NOW!!! Sorry to whinge.

FurryFox · 19/12/2007 13:47

Lizzer I know what you mean about getting upset, I'm sure it is just the hormones (I hope ) I've been crying loads since MW appointment yesterday and keep getting upset at the thought of going into hospital without DD and coming out with another baby. Have wanted to have this baby for such a long time and now I know the time is nearly here it scares me.

Bunny have you had any more contractions since they last went off? Ringing before you go in for induction to see if beds available is normal in my area, I remember having to do it last time

Skid - Hi I love the name Milo, so cute, have you decided for sure yet? Is DD still in love with her baby brother? How are you finding two of them?

Awen how did MW app go? Anymore contractions?

Suey - Have fun at the theatre. Maybe it will set things off, you just never know

Ozzy - Hopefully not too much longer for you but I'm going to be selfish and say I hope I go first, I am 41+2 after all .

Went for a blood test this morning and it's really hurting now. Never normally bothers me but I've got a nice big bruise come up already

loucee · 19/12/2007 14:07

hi everyone

My friend who was due on 24th text me at 7am to say she was on her way to hospital after contractions started at 3am, my next text was at 9.30 to say her baby boy had been born at 8.44am! What a lovely short labour!

Me, I'm 2 days overdue now. Had some backache earlier but think it's just from cleaning the windows. New car arrives tomorrow though so that's taking my mind off being OD. Hope MW sweep on Friday helps me along.

Suey - great you got tickets for the show, hope you all have a lovely night out and relax. Understand what you mean about your abs holding baby up and high - so what position are you favouring now?

Awen, hope this is the start of things, what did MW say?

Skid, love Milo!

tabimum · 19/12/2007 16:24

hi everyone - am also one of those wishing my waters would hurry up and break - or something would start at least....am conscious that I have one week for a "natural" birth before they will intervene with a c-section on the 27th, so am desperate for LO to try and make an appearance...and ideally not Xmas eve/day as really want to be at home with DD for the first Xmas she will actually care about. I suppose I am being quite strict with my window of delivery!!

There is only so much pineapple/RL tea etc that can be stomached! and I am afraid that I cant begin to imagine going about the other labour inducer! I have had reflexology (2 sessions) but that doesnt seem to have done anything.....just got to sit and wait. Am also fed up with the constant calls and texts asking if LO has arrived yet....what, they think I would keep it a secret???

Congrats to all who have had their Dec babies - and I am thinking of all of those in same position as me (especially those with inductions this week).....HURRY UP LO's !!!!!

suey2 · 19/12/2007 17:23

hi loucee,
my favourite position is now sitting with legs straight out and leaning halfway back, but with back straight from shoulder to hip.
getting much more pain at the top of m cervix and in my rectum as a result, which i see as a positive thing.

OP posts:
loucee · 19/12/2007 19:22

Tabi - water breaking vibes for you. Hope you can avoid the c-section (can't remember why you will need the cs if not delivered by 27th, is it a VBAC?)

Suey, have just been physically recreating your sitting position! Yes I agree if that is creating pressure in the cervix as a result then must be getting the baby into a better position to progress to labour.

Lizzer, I didn't get the clary sage in the end due to the cost! Cheapest I could find was £7.49 so thought I'd leave it but now wondering if I should just try it! (used it for a week before DD arrived but am sure she arrived due to sweep that morning)

Seems really quiet on here, I know its different now people are on maternity leave etc but whenever I check back I expect to see lots of labour posts or birth announcements! It's great hearing about the babies being born, hopefully it wont be too long for those of us still waiting.

Lizzer · 19/12/2007 19:29

Hi, yeah ikwym Suey2, I was getting reg bh's in that position last night and the same sort of pain, will try it again..
Well accupuncture booked for tomorrow, think it may not have time to work though as due in on fri for induction...think I will go in cos my ex-midwife mum has had a talk with me about how it is important to put baby's health first and not hang on for my own reasons (she said it in a nice way though)

Went for a 3 mile walk today but not a twinge!!! Ah well, I'm eating the curry tonight and switching my phone off too!!!

Hey Furry, I'm so over-emotional about my dd too, can't stop hugging her and luckily she hasn't given me the brush off just yet!!

goodluck tabimum, ikwym about the 'other' labour inducer too, would rather have another pineapple lol!

Enjoy the theatre Suey, sounds like an ace plan

Bunny, that sounds a bit about the bed situation, I mean you ARE booked in and what would happen if emergency??

Skid, I love Milo too

Lizzer · 19/12/2007 19:33

Loucee, yes its a shocking price for clary sage isn't it?! I bought a small bottle for £4, it hasn't done anything so far today but will keep trying [hair pulling emoticon]

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 19/12/2007 19:43

Yes it is rather quiet!
Nothing really to report here - few odd twinges and tummy ache but no actual contractions. Have had more gloop appear!

becklesparkle · 19/12/2007 19:52

Bouncing, hope something is happening for you! I have also had a bit of on/off tummy ache for a week now and v uncomfortable, particularly at night. Keep needing the loo more often too so hoping that means LO has moved down a bit. BHs are very regular at night and pulling a bit now too but they seem to stop in the daytime.

Bunny and Suey, crossed fingers for you both that things are starting off! Sounds like things may be getting going for you too Awen, your little man has done well to hang on in there so long, bet you can't wait to meet him now!

Ozzy, I know just what you mean, I will be 39 weeks tomorrow and every day I am disappointed not to go into labour!

Tabimum, hey there DD buddy! I have given myself a date window too! If baby is not here by Saturday then I would rather it be late so that I don't miss Christmas Day with my DSs. I love to see their faces when they see the gifts Father Christmas brings and at 7.5 I know there is a chance that DS1 won't believe next year (and will probably tell his brother too) .

Well I don't know if my plug is starting to come away but there were a couple of really small (yes I have been checking ...) bits of clear gloop. Would never have noticed if had not been checking but hopefully it is the start, even if it takes another week or 2 it is nice to know am going in the right direction! Had a fair amount of discomfort in my thighs today too, they are really achey tonight and had a couple of pains in them earlier. I had a lot of labour pains in my thighs with DS2 so obviously I am getting my hopes up! At the same time as hoping I am fairly sure it is nothing and this baby will still be in here well after Christmas!

I tell you what, labour sign spotting is worse than the symptom spotting during the 2WW at the beginning!

macdoodle · 19/12/2007 20:17

Bugger saw midwife today - she thinks LO might still be breech - going for scan on Fri
Worried if she is they will want me in for section before xmas but timing doing head in as even if went in sat would not get home for xmas as 3 nights is xmas day
Am going to make a stand and insist they wait till after xmas (my DD will be gutted if I am not there xmas morning)...
It helps that dates by my early private scan makes me 40 weeks on Boxing Day but by NHS later scan (which they are going by)makes me 40 weeks on Sun 30 Dec so may just get away with xmas ...not happy but not much can do will have to wait for Fri and hope MW is wrong !

becklesparkle · 19/12/2007 20:28

What a worry Macdoodle, fingers crossed that LO is not breech and if she is hopefully they won't make you have a section before Christmas. It is possible to give birth naturally to a breech baby so not sure what the rush would be, especially as by NHS scan dates you are not due for another week and a half! Also, the recovery for a planned section seems to be better than for an emergency one so they may let you out sooner than 3 nights.
