Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 18/12/2007 09:10

Buzzy - I'm with you, have made sure I'm busy this week - I call it "tempting fate"

Ambi - congrats on birth of baby Louise! Sorry it was so painful but it's all over now. Hope your sore bits recover quickly!

I now am the proud oner of a fully assembled bouncy chair. I told lo to hurry up and come out so s/he can try it out! My friend is coming to visit, so if she brings her baby with her, he'll be trying it out!

HoHoHousemum · 18/12/2007 09:24

Congratulations Ambi!

Too tired to think of anything else to say - could not get into comfy position to sleep last night. Yawn...

loucee · 18/12/2007 10:01

Morning

Congratulations Ambi! What a lovely neat size your daughter is.

Housemum, same here had crap nights sleep and woke up with such aching hips I thought I had given birth!

Got loads done this morning though, oven and fridge have been cleaned again and wiped freezer out in preparation for some food shopping that's being delivered tomorrow.

Got a friend coming round later who's also got a 2 yr old and is due on Christmas Eve so plan to eat lots of mince pies and chat to someone in the same boat rather than annoying people asking STUPID questions!

Oh haven't tried clary sage this time yet though so will get some this morning, off to the shops now.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 18/12/2007 10:31

I think I need to buy some more, already halfway through the bottle of the massage oil.
There is a radox variety that contains clary sage, but I would have thought only has tiny amounts in as no warnings on it about being pg!

HoHoHousemum · 18/12/2007 10:46

Clary sage is doing sweet FA for me - have been massaging 5-7 drops in oil into bump every night for last week!

The pineapple gave me such awful heartburn I can't even bear to look at them now.

Sex is fun but not doing anything noticeable...

Lizzer · 18/12/2007 11:11

Hi there, Tuesday morning ladies... Well done Ambi and welcome to the world Louise can't wait to see pics..

Thanks to everyone for being nice to me y'day I was v v v pissed off but have woken up today feeling better about everything

Aww hohohousemum, I'm with you on the nothing's working front... I think I'll get some clary sage today too Loucee (its over £6 a bottle though!!!)

BTW Loucee, no not a vbac I'm going for, its just I was induced with dd on the drip - too fast and not nice being strapped to monitor all evening, had episiotomy cos I couldn't get up and move around I'm sure it helps being active in labour-not natural to be lying down imo. I just wanted to prove to myself that my body can do its own labour but I wouldn't mind so much if only the gel was used as that's more gentle apparently...

Cazzy, sorry you had a tough time, I guess its a lesson to us all not to expect things to go our way but the fact Evie is now in your arms is an amazing miracle in its self, just hope your recovery is swift...

Beckle, hope your ds2 is well on the road to recovery now and that you got some sleep last night..

Buzzy, I like your plan, I'm going to get busy too to take mind off it. I think I'll get an accupuncturist apt too and I've got stronger pills from my homeopath to try...

I can't believe I said I wasn't in a rush to get baby out but now I've got an induction date its becoming a race, goddamn my competitive nature

Suey2 and Furry - well come on then girls, we have til Friday - I quite fancy the challenge to get there before then, do you???!!! (The winner gets a baby, with the runners up getting...erm a baby too!!)

BunnyBaby · 18/12/2007 11:23

Sambi- Well done and congratulations!

Suey and Lizzer - lots of vibes your way too, we're in the same boat and wanting things to happen naturally!

Also thanks to everyone for the good wishes, am being patient though did get upset yesterday as I hit my latest 42 week mark.

Have heard on another thread that if they offer monitoring be sure to request and ultrasound to check cord position which can delay labour and cause inductions to be a mess, it makes sense to request that they check this properly with an ultrasound. We're going to ask for this this afternoon.

After the midwife sweep, yesterday we went for a swim and this triggered light contractions, so we also tried the hubby-sweep, raspberry leaf tea tablet, evening primrose internally, and I rubbed clary sage and lavender into bump. This continued the light contractions, 8 mins apart until this morning.

However as this is similar to what happened on Saturday night, I just want to see if it pregresses further. Midwife said that last run of contractions moved cervix down partially, and allowed her to get one finger in cervix to sweep. So this run may have done more of the same. Then it's apparently a domino effect. Will ask hospital midwife's to repeat the sweep.

After hospital off to my reflexologist for another priming treatment which will hopefully work.

Really want the baby to come naturally. However and willing now to take induction on thursday as Dad's brother was stillborn and no-one really knows why and this thought niggles at the back of my mind.

Should I get to Thursday and they induce, and the baby comes out not looking over-cooked, and my placenta's in good shape, I'll know I'm just a "slow-cooker". And will hold on longer for subsequent pregnancies that go over.

I heard that gestation follows father's genealogy. MIL went 2 weeks over with BIL and GMIL went 2 weeks over with MIL. On my side of the family most babies come within a week of EDD. Maybe it's just personal to each of us.

Good luck girlies!

BunnyBaby

Amani · 18/12/2007 11:40

Congratulations Sambi - hope you are resting and both you and LO are well.

Beachbunny - been following your progress and would like to say I hope this time the contractions are 'IT' and things go the way you would like it to.

Housemum - can I join the rubbish night sleep club. Back to my usual of waking up around 2am and tossing and turning but not falling asleep.

Buzzy - sounds like a good plan, having lots to do, hopefully will make the time go quicker until you are ready to pop.

Ok - still waiting for this baby to make an apperance by Sat (she says wishfully)...

Off to get my eyebrows threaded in a bit and tame some of the rest of the 'bushes' on me...

Amani · 18/12/2007 12:09

Quick query for anyone who is on maternity leave:

Are you answering any queries from your colleauges regarding your work? The young lady that I trained up to cover my role (who I had a feeling was not the ideal candidate for my job, but due to budgeting etc the department did not recriut anyone with the specialist skills to do my job, but asked me to train an admin staff), keeps e-mailing me with basic questions and queries that she should know and has emailed me asking me for my home number so she can call me! Defo not giving my home number out, but should I be helping her out as I am now off work?

Bit annoyed as it is basic stuff she needs help for and not something she doesn't know...

SAmbiClaus · 18/12/2007 12:58

Thanks everyone, put a quick pic up. Bunny - I was right about my dates, I was induced at Term + 12(according to medics), but she was only 6lbs 4ozs, and no way over cooked, I wonder how she'd have been if she'd have been born at their date of 4th!

FurryFox · 18/12/2007 13:34

Hi all

Congratulations Ambi on the arrival of Louise, lovely name Hope you're all settleing in well together at home.

Bunny - Hope your appointment goes well at the hospital today, let us know

Sorry to all of you who had rubbish nights sleep, something we could all do without. Think everyone making plans is a good idea, babies are bound to come then

Well had 41 week MW appointment this morning and am now wishing I hadn't. She gave me a sweepbut didn't actually ask me if I wanted it, just told me I was having it . Had two with DD, neither of which worked, but neither of them hurt as much as it did today, I was nearly crying it was so bad . Cervix is soft but high so not sure if that's good or not. She did manage to reach my cervix but wish she hadn't it was so painful. Said she had started off a show too but I know that doesn't always mean anything. So then I asked her about induction, again which I hadn't. She said she can't do anything about bringing it forward (date should be Xmas Eve) but gave me a number to ring and said they might take me Sunday evening but I doubt I'd be out by Xmas day even if I went in on Sunday night. Am devestated at the thought of missing Christmas with DD. I asked her if they wouldn't take me in early could I go over and she said "no, they won't let you go past 14 days" . So I now need to ring this number and see what they say but have no hope of getting an induction earlier than Sunday, which maybe isn't a bad thing, but not sure how to handle them telling me I have to go in on Sunday/Monday . Sorry for going on yet again.

suey2 · 18/12/2007 14:07

amani- they are not allowed to contact you. email this girl back and tell her you are now on mat leave and not available to answer any questions, she will have to ask someone else. Tell her you will not be responding to any further enquiries. I am soooo shocked that she feels she can do this. If necessary block her email.

Furry i am so shocked. I really hope you get better support when you call the number she has given you.

TBH, i have now given up on all of the tricks that are suposed to help bring labour on. They haven't worked and i am now just going to relax. Good on you others for keeping going. I am going to do lots of nice things over the next couple of days- including trying to book for a really nice lunch on thurs with DH after dropping my mum off for the train home.

I am still slathering myself with lots of lovely potions- no stretchmarks yet, and my abdominals have not split. I am also putting vaseline on my perineum every day as i have heard that that helps.

But, the MW told me that the baby's head is not well pressed onto the cervix so all of that wlking and bouncing and sitting in a favourable posiotn has been completely pointless. as has currys etc.

becklesparkle · 18/12/2007 14:26

Ambi, congrats on little Louise! Lovely name!

Cazzy, glad you are home now although sorry you had to have CS, at least Evie is here saftely though.
Lizzer, DS2 is a lot better thanks although was so bunged up in the night he couldn't really breathe properly, he kept waking himself up every few minutes. For some reason he won't or can't breathe through his mouth while asleep. So anyway, I slept on his bed again last night and am very sore and tired today! Could not have slept easily away from him though.

Bunnybaby, good luck at your appt this afternoon! I am interested to know whether the cord has anything to do with baby not engaging as mine still has not moved down, please let us know how you get on! I really don't want to be induced to find out that baby would not be coming out of its own accord anyway!

Furry, your MWs have no people skills at all! At least you still have a few days to go before they want you in for induction - will keep sending lots of positive vibes your way!

Amani, at your ML cover! Might it be worth phoning your boss and letting him/her know that the cover keeps contacting you? Perhaps they don't know she is rubbish!

Still no signs of baby either moving lower or getting ready to be born here although have noticed that my boobs have grown again and are a bit heavier and fuller! Anyone else noticed anything like that?

WizzskaRedbreast · 18/12/2007 14:38

Lots of lovely babies arriving now. Congratulations to you all. Am really , some of you seem to have had fairly easy births (yes that's you Insy and Skid)! .

Hope everyone is thriving. I'm desperately trying to sort my tits out. Have cabbage leaves down my bra at the moment . Had the midwife trying to sort Rory's latch out this morning as am beginning to get a really sore boob with blocked ducts. Rory hasn't put on any weight for a few days so we think that is why. Otherwise things are ok. My mum has been an absolute star and has stayed with me for the past couple of weeks while DH works. She's really helping with all housework, and helping me lift things after the CS.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 18/12/2007 15:07

Hey Wizzka! Glad your mum is helping out - you do need to be careful of your scar - what a star she is!
Is Rory now feeding better after MW visit?
My friend used cabbage leaves, she put in the fridge first said they were lovely and soothing!

HoHoHousemum · 18/12/2007 16:27

Amani - she shouldn't be contacting you, but if you want to avoid confrontation you could always say you aren't feeling too good and are going to stay with [insert relevant relative/friend] so won't be picking up e-mails while you are there.

FurryFox · 18/12/2007 17:07

Suey - Lucky you with no stretchmarks. Am very of you.

Wizzka - Hope your boobs start to feel a bit better soon. I remember how hard and painful it was when I tried to bf DD, I'll admit I didn't last long, it's can be so tuff.

Beckle - I don't know about my boobs being heavier or fuller but my whole body in general seems to be getting bigger

Well I rang the number for the hospital that the MW had given me and am now even more and . Basically was told that they are not currently changing anyones induction dates and mine would still be Xmas eve. She said the consultants are having a meeting on Thursday to decide if they will bring the xmas eve/day inductions forward or to leave them, depending on how busy they are (which is understandable). However, she then asked my name etc so she could call me back on Thursday and then in a confused voice pointed out that I wasn't even booked in. They have no record of me being pregnant . So somehow they now have to fit me anyway but she said it would still more than likely be Xmas eve. It was actually my wonderful DH that rang them as I've been really teary since my MW appointment this morning. He said to them that I probably would refuse induction on Xmas eve and would I be able to go in Boxing day or day after. She said "the consultants wouldn't want her to do that" so DH pointed out that they can't make me go in so would they want to monitor me daily etc, she said "oh well let's not look into it that far ahead until we know what the consultants decide".

Either way I am not very hopeful or confident that they will take me in before Xmas eve, however if all well with baby I will be refusing induction and request to go in Boxing day or even the day after. With my long cycle being 37 days that makes me more likely to be due around the 17th anyway, but they aren't interested in that

Lizzer · 18/12/2007 17:12

Oh furry that's so shit I can't believe they can't do anything til then, I would've thought they would want you in, my consultant would've happily had me in today, nevermind friday... You'd think there would be some continuity of care throughout the country, its shocking and sooo annoying that you have a crap mw too... remember they can't make you do anything, I'm still not sure whether i'll go in for mine..i'm going to decide on friday...

Amani, you have to get this to stop, politely explain you are on leave now and that she'll have to find someone else to help...

Beckle, poor you and ds2 hope tonight brings you more restful night's sleep, its nt what you need right now...

Bunnybaby, any news?

Wizzska, so sorry about your boobs, mine were terribly sore for first few weeks but if you can get through it it becomes so easy and convenient, i promise

PeckaRolloverAgain · 18/12/2007 17:36

Hi everyone

Im niggling away here but not due til Boxing Day and both my other two were late so I will be amazed if it comes to anything.

Have been period painy and achey back all day!

Furry, that is crap - if I was you I would consider refusing the induction offered to you on Sunday. They cant MAKE you do anything and can offer daily monitoring beyond 42 weeks.

Do you want me to dig out my AIMS booklet on exactly where you stand?

FurryFox · 18/12/2007 17:45

It's the fact that had I not enquired about my induction I would have turned up on Xmas eve to be induced as told by MW this morning and the hospital would have no record of me. In my area you get booked in provisionally for induction when you see the scan MW after your 12 week scan which I did. It's always had on my notes IOL 24/12/07 but somehow the hospital have no record of me

Have decided will refuse the induction if offered on Sunday or Xmas Eve because I'm not convinced my EDD of the 10th is right anyway, more likely the 17th with my long 37 day cycles but they refuse to take this into account. That would only make me 41 weeks anyway if I were to be induced on Xmas eve.

Pecka my lovely thank you but you just worry about yourself with all the niggles you're having

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 18/12/2007 17:49

Grrr... I've just weighed myself - 15 and a half stone! Weight limit for birthing pool is 15!! I shall have to hope they don't weigh me - definitely saw women at the class who looked heavier than me!

Furry - poor you, seems they are making you very upset and anxious needlessly at hospital for not having you down!

Beckle - how frustrating baby not moving down! However, don't lose heart I was told that some babies don't engage until after labour starts.

Pecka - yeah that's how I've been feeling on and off, plus lots of BMs (Sorry about the TMI!) hoping it's a sign of things to come!

Amani - yes you do not have to deal with anything at work, and I would be mightily pissed off if work gave this girl your home number. I would send a quick email to your boss and ask him to speak to her. She should not be contacting you! Or go for Housemum's suggestion. But she may not take the hint though.

mixedmama · 18/12/2007 17:54

Just popping on auickly to say congrats as Amani had let me know that you had popped Skid. Congrats to everyone and hopefully will be joining you all in postnatal soon. No time to catch up right now but will do soon. Take care all.

Amani · 18/12/2007 17:58

Thank you guys - now I know where I stand. Thing is before I left work my boss asked if my mat cover could have my home phone number and I said no - so don't know why she is asking for it again. Think I might do the 'Am too ill to respond' tactic.

Pecka - been having period pains and my bump sometimes becomes rock hard.

furry - am they did not have you on the system. How rubbish...

suey2 · 18/12/2007 18:13

furry FYI my nuchal scan was on the NHS and they go by that date, not LMP. (my LMP date was 6th dec and my periods have always been irregular- anything from 19 to 35 days over the 6 months it took me to conceive)

I hope your care is ace when you get in there. ANd lets face it, you will have a cute wee baby at the end.

I went into work today to sort out this bill thing- fortunately all of the tenants are clubbing together as we are all equally outraged. we shall see what happens...

Congrats to all new mummies! and good luck to those still waiting, hope it's not long now.

wizzska after 9 days of pain free breast feeding one of my boobs is now at the stage where i'm crying when she latches on, not sure why. owwwwww . will cabbage leave help cracked nipples or are they more for "blockage"?
