Hola

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mellymooks · 07/12/2007 07:16

No I'm still awake!!!!!!!

Feel a bit strange - kind of unsettled, been having light twinges on and off since about 3am, prob nothing, would just be too odd to actually have this baby on my due date, so i'm putting it down to my excitement at actually arriving at my due date!!

Wonder if anyone will have their baby today, it def. seems to have speeded up this week.

Bouncingturtle · 07/12/2007 07:54

I've just got up and had my breakfast - how are you feeling Melly? Any twinges?
And Buzzy - how you doing - only 1 week til you pack in work, hooray!!

Ambi · 07/12/2007 08:24

Happy due date Melly,

Wizzska · 07/12/2007 08:31

Hello everyone. Long birth story if anyone interested.

Back from hospital yesterday night. So much for my hippy dippy home birth [shrug].

Beautiful baby Rory born Sunday night at 19.35, 8 lb 5.

As you all know , waters broke early hours of Friday 30th morning but I didn't get contractions. Finally went in to hospital on Saturday afternoon and had to be induced. Spent all night getting contractions and hooked up to the monitor and my tens but by morning hadn't gone more than 3 cm and contractions had stopped. Had to be put on a drip for most of the next day but by evening, still only 4 or 5 cm. They gave me an epidural to relax me but didn't seem to dilate so had to have an emergency cs in the end. Am now just glad to have a beautiful boy, but feel like I've been hit by a train.

Am sooo glad to get out of hospital and home. Poor wee Rory had jaundice so we had to stay longer. Hopefully he's ok now.

Congrats everyone else who's had their little ones. Have still to read up on what I've missed.

Ambi · 07/12/2007 08:34

Fantastic news Wiizka - glad you and little Rory are ok Congrats to you and the family

claraquitemassivenow · 07/12/2007 09:46

well done wizzska - hope you are recovering ok from your section. and enjoying life with rory!

sorry about lack of capitals am typing one-handed with dd on my knee.

6 days over now - although bowels had a clear out this morning - sorry, ugh - so you never know....

happy due date melly. wizz's little boy came on her due date so it is possible.

skid - what a rubbish m/w. I had my last appointment on Wed and still no mention of birth plan. However have now done as you suggested and had a good chat with my DH. He didn't know anything about pulsating cords or having waters broken during labour but has dilligently gone off and read all about it on the internet!

mellymooks · 07/12/2007 10:04

Congrats Wizz!! Bet you're glad to be home, welcome to the world Rory!

Just managed to catch up on couple of hrs sleep, still getting twinges but not as strong as they were in the night.

Going out for a walk with a friend in a bit - maybe that will get things started... well i can hope eh?!

Amani · 07/12/2007 10:32

Cogratulations Wizzska and NBG.
Happy due date day melly

Housemum · 07/12/2007 10:32

Loucee - I'm going to use the mattress that came with our basket but if you are concerned there's a company here Baby Mattresses Online that I got a made-to-measure mattress for my Silver Cross pram from - they were really cheap - about £15 as opposed to £25 from the Silver Cross discount shop! You can choose the type of cover with most mattresses (PVC, mesh, "Coolmax")

Housemum · 07/12/2007 10:40

Congratulations to Wizzska and NBG!

Babies, babies - bring them all on now! I'm getting impatient even though only 36+6, but I think that's because I only went to 33 and 38 weeks before so at this stage it feels like an eternity. Doesn't help that I haven't even got any Christmas stuff to rush around doing as I got organised in advance - decorations are up, presents are mostly wrapped, doing the cards tomorrow night when DH is in (he's been out 3 nights this weeks and SIL was round yesterday evening). Made Christmas cake yesterday (bit of a tradition, have a picture of the girls stirring the cake mix every Xmas from when they were old enough to stand on a chair and stir!) All bills paid that are due between now and month end, just in case. Ho, hum, another cup of (raspberry leaf) tea is calling...

loucee · 07/12/2007 11:18

Congratulations NBG, Loopsy and welcome back Wizzska. Thanks for sharing your birthstories, it's great reading them.
Sorry things didn't pan out as you'd hoped Wizz, you're doing the right thing though and concentrating on your lovely newborn boy now.

Housemum, thanks for the link - will organise that today. This must be very odd ground for you indeed having gone early with your two previous pregnancies. Try and keep nice and busy and enjoy the last few weeks (easier said than done I know)

Just had a crap MW appointment, am 38+4 today and I told her I was concerned baby was back to back. She said yes the baby feels quite far round and I have a dip at the front of my belly. I told her my fears about a repeat of DD's labour and birth and very near section and so I've got a consultant appt next thurs (will be 39+3) to discuss an elective section. Thing is I don't think I want an elective one at all I want them to be more on the ball and to help me do everything to prevent baby turning further round during labour/birth. Came away feeling like i'd been talked into something and now feel very weird.

skidaddle · 07/12/2007 11:42

Morning all

Happy due date melly - hope the walk does some good

Wizzska - great to see you back on and sorry the birth wasn't as expected but hope your recovery is quick, and great that Rory is doing well (lovely name!) - photos asap please!!

loucee - sorry to hear about your mw appt - it is hard not to get railroaded into making a decision, isn't it? At least you have some time before your consultant appt to think about what you want and hopefully s/he will be willing to listen

claraq - you sound very upbeat for someone 6 days overdue - how are you feeling about a possible cs? Following my rubbish mw appt yesterday I have decided to refuse induction at 41 weeks (which seems like the latest they'll do it so as not to disturb their rounds of weekend golf and cracker-pulling ) and to go to 42+2 (after Xmas) for induction providing everything is well with the baby. I don't know why, but I just hate the idea of making a baby be born before s/he is ready when there is no medical reason to do so - I feel like that would just be asking for a horrible labour. Of course a cs is a different matter and I imagine for the baby it is the nicest way to be born of all...

Had a dream that we were all in some awful reality TV type program where we all had to give birth in a big shared house and you all looked like your names stood on their side - e.g. Caz10's bump was the '0', amani's bump was the 'n' .. Caz10 - you had the biggest bump and baby - not to alarm you or anything but we all ended up with lovely healthy babies so if my subconscious can be trusted we have nothing to worry about...

dundeemarmalade · 07/12/2007 11:50

skidaddle your dream sounds funny!

i know what you mean about the apparent inconvenience we are causing by possibly needing induction around christmas or new year. i left my last mw appt feeling as tough dh and i should have abstained from baby-dancing in march just so that we wouldn't distract our healthcare practitioners from their turkey and tinsel. i mean, fah gawd's sake, christmas happens every blinkin year, but our babies are only going to be born once in their lifetimes!

HoHoHousemum · 07/12/2007 11:52

skidaddle · 07/12/2007 12:00

well exactly dundee - makes me (in case you hadn't realised!)How are you feeling? Any twinges etc?

hohohousemum - love the new name!!

dundeemarmalade · 07/12/2007 12:02

plenty of twinges, even more whinges .

baby was 3/5 engaged on tuesday which i took to be a good sign but no real action as yet...

suey2 · 07/12/2007 12:06

congratulations wizzska! I hope you are settling in nicely in oyur own ennvironment and recovering ok.

skidaddle · 07/12/2007 12:07

at the whinges - I have become the moaniest old cow in existence recently and if DH dares to comment he gets a long rant about how would he like to be 9 months pg - bet he's so glad he married me

Just scrolled down and seen your due date is 18th so you may well get past Xmas without a baby... (best to mentally prepare yourself for the possibility) but on the upside, at least then you won't inconvenience medical staff by interrupting their Boxing day celebrations!

FurryFox · 07/12/2007 12:17

Congratualations wizzka, nbg and loopsy. Hope you're all settling in well with your lo's

skid - Sorry you MW app was so rubbish . My next one is on Monday when I'll be 40 weeks so I'm going to ask when they would want to take me in for induction and then can have a think about what to do. at your dream.

Had really bad cramp in my right leg last night which kept me awake for ages and is really hurting today. I've never suffered with them before but since I've been pregnant had quite a few and always in my right leg and during the night, anyone know why this might be?

skidaddle · 07/12/2007 12:26

hi furry,

yes I've had this a few times in this pg and last one - apparently it's quite common in pg. Advice AFAIK is to eat bananas to prevent them (something about the potassium) and when it actually happens try to relax the muscle (hard when you're in excruciating pain I know!) and get your dp to push your toes towards your shin which might relieve it. It is really agonising, isn't it?

FurryFox · 07/12/2007 12:35

It's awful, the pain is really bad. It only lasted a couple of minutes but felt a lot longer! DH did the toe thing and I think it helped to ease it. Will make sure I eat lot's of bananas It's hurting today though just to straighten my leg out!

Not a healthy house at the moment, Dh has a viral infection which he's had for about two weeks now and DD is complaining she doesn't feel well and her ears hurt, we were at the docs last week as she had a chest infection and then there's me, another one who constantly complains and moans when really I probably haven't got it that bad at all comapared to others Def found this pregnancy harder than the first one, come on babies

claraquitemassivenow · 07/12/2007 13:01

Skid - what have you been eating before you go to bed to bring on such funny dreams

I think you are doing the right thing to wait until after Christmas to be induced (if you need to which hopefully you won't). At the end of the day remember it's your body and your baby so don't let anyone talk you into anything you don't want. Stuff their Christmasses!

I am feeling ok, I was pissed off at the weekend, around my due date, but have started to feel a little more philosophical about it all. The baby will come when it's ready etc. I think it really helps to have a c/section date as I KNOW I now only have at the most 5 more nights to get through. And my mum is coming up this afternoon for the weekend, then dd will be at the childminders on Mon and Tues, so the really hard bit about being this pregnant (looking after dd on my own) is now more or less over. Hurrah!

I have also found it has helped to avoid people, apart from any of my friends who have also been through this (eg going hideously overdue - I find they are a great support, especially the ones who went 2 weeks+). Then I don't have to put up with any of the "are you still here" comments...

Hohohousemum (like the name), I am the same as you - ultra organised for Christmas and now just twiddling my thumbs. Doing minimal amounts of housework but now wondering whether I shouldn't try and be a bit more active to bring things on.....

claraquitemassivenow · 07/12/2007 13:03

Furry - sorry you are having a hard time with all the illnesses. It's the last thing you need at this stage isn't it? Our house is actually relatively healthy at the moment so baby, if you're listening, this would be a GOOD TIME to be born!
