Pecka - your boobs will probably be bigger after the baby is born (although not necessarily - mine didn't get too much larger), when the milk comes in. But I think I have read somewhere that you can get measured again once the baby has dropped. I don't know, I never really found either a maternity or feeding bra that fitted, I can't wait to get back into normal bras again.

Nice to hear some great, positive birth stories (very impressed at your no pain relief story RG - 'fraid I am a coward who will be putting the anethesists on stand-by for an epi as soon as I get into the hospital!).

Skid - I think I had some "gloop" too but assumed it was not a show. Since then (about a week ago?) haven't had anything.

With you all on daytime tv - it is rubbish, even if you have 999 channels.

Anyone who is bored, would you like to take dd and amuse her for a while? Getting down on the floor to play with a train set or help her with a puzzle at 40+5 is getting a little difficult! Still at least I am keeping my mind off things by having to look after her!

becklesparkle · 06/12/2007 13:25

Lovely story RG - very !

Pecka, I measured myself for a nursing bra. I think they then tell you to go down a band size and up a cup size to get the size you will need. Mine are a little tight on the loosest setting at the moment but once rib cage starts to go back in they should fit well on the tighter fittings.

Macdoodle, I am due the day after you and have not packed my bag yet either... Baby one is done though. Am not sure what to take in to wear though, I don't own a nightie (which fits and is suitable for wearing in a hospital) or PJs. I have a shirt which I took in when I had DSs, don't really want to have to buy a nightie cos will just wear old T's once am at home.

becklesparkle · 06/12/2007 13:28

I wish I was bored! I have so much to do and just can't get my head around it all! This afternoon's task is to make some sweet pastry up and then make some mince pies for the DSs school fair tomorrow...
Have done some paperwork sorting this morning and next week's job is to clean out the kitchen cupboards, do the oven and generally spring clean the rest of the house.

Housemum · 06/12/2007 13:49

Agree daytime TV is pants - I watched the last 2 week's episodes of Cranford this morning whilst knitting as I had them on the planner - baby now has a pram blanket so it's allowed to arrive!

Am trying to remember to put things on top of my hospital bags that I still need to use daily - eg my glasses and hairbrush - the sort of things I'd go off without (I normally wear lenses, figure that if it's the middle of the night I'll obviously have my glasses on to see but if it's daytime I'd gaily wander off and leave them by the bed)

Bras - thought about getting measured, but decided that it's only guesswork anyway and better to wait until after milk has come in. To all first-timers - your norks may well get huge on about the 3rd day (this also coincides often with huge hormone surge/weepiness) then will settle down to whatever will be your "regular" bf size. Have a couple of cheap sale bras in my usual (at the mo) number (38) plus added 2 cup sizes (38C at the mo - bought 38DD) - they were about £7 each and I figured that it was better to "waste" £14 on some bras that might only last a few days/be the wrong size, than spend a fortune on supposedly fitting bras that then turn out to be the wrong size. Another option is to buy night bras for the first couple of days which cover a range of sizes rather than being specific cup-sizes, but our local mothercare didn't have them last time I was in - like soft crop tops, you'll need to wear something at night to keep the breastpads in place to try to avoid waking up in a milky pool!.

FurryFox · 06/12/2007 13:54

RG - Your birth story is great and Ellie is just gorgeous!

Clara - I'm with you on getting on the floor to play with trains, puzzles etc - it's so difficult at times but at least it gives me something to do.

Sarah & meme - How are you both today, any news? You were both having pains yesterday, maybe you're already holding your lo's in your arms! Very if you are

Nothing to report here, apart from still pregnant, still big and still not as comfy as I'd like to be but then we're all in that boat. Hope everyone is feeling not too bad anyway

Bouncingturtle · 06/12/2007 13:58

I've managed to resist the lure of day time TV by spending my time playing games on my laptop and DH's DS lite! PLus been watching DVDs and films that we've recorded off the telly. PLus be quite busy nesting and such.
AN appointment this afternoon. Going to have a bit of a tidy as well because we have visitors this weekend.

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 14:32

Ok so now im offically an idiot
Ive just had a argument with dp as i was getting all worked up at the thoughts of my c/s next week and i told dp i didnt want to have it. He said i was being silly and getting upset over nothing and ive just blew my top, ive sat here crying for the past half hour hysterically
DS keeps coming over and giving me cuddles and thats starting me off again
im dreading leaving ds while im in hospital even though he'll be coming in to see me, and im just getting so so scared about the whole thing now

dundeemarmalade · 06/12/2007 14:47

fifisworld

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 14:57

Thanks dundee
< takes the hankies, tea and cake gratefully>

I know this has been building up inside me for days and today its just all come out.
I know ds will be fine as he's spending thursday night at my dads and Friday night at mils and hopefully i'll be out on the Sat, and i know i'll see him everyday as well.
I just feel stupid for crying at something so trivial

TripLetItSnowAndTwins · 06/12/2007 15:10

Hi! I know it's a bit late, but could I please join?

I'm having twins who aren't actually due until January 13th, but I've been told to expect them by the 16th of this month, certainly no later than Christmas

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 15:13

Of course you can, welcome Trip

Ambi · 06/12/2007 15:22

hugs fifi, you'll have your lo soon. Hope you feel better after an emotional explosion. (We do just need em sometimes, otherwise we are just robots) I have some more donuts/chocolate/biccys/popcorn to offer as I can feel my ass expanding just thinking about the junk food I have here!

Ambi · 06/12/2007 15:24

Hi trip, wow twins, that's so exciting. Now feel that my aches and pains are nothing compared to how you must be feeling with 2 swimming around inside.

suey2 · 06/12/2007 15:42

poor you fifi! Hopefully your DP can see it is just hormones. I have had a few moments over the last few days. Today i feel so much better as i actually managed to get some sleep last night- was woken up by a phone call at 10am . Have completely changed sleeping tactics which seemed to have worked a treat.

Saw MW today. Still glucose in wee and BP creeping up. hands and feet swollen, almost constant headache and i have felt significantly more rubbish over the last few days. They have taken bloods today to test for pre-eclampsia and will phone me with the results tomorrow. Depending on the result, they may induce me next week- which would actually suit me just fine- mum coming down on weds for a week. Shame if there is no baby!

Ambi · 06/12/2007 15:54

Suey are you due v soon?

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 15:56

I feel much better now, i think that cry has just been building up and was desperate to come out.
I think whatever i say now goes over dp's head, he's used to my hormonal outrages now

I just need to keep thinking, this time next week it will all be over.

Bouncingturtle · 06/12/2007 15:56

Similar concerns here Suey, lots of protein in wee today, so have to send another sample to the path lab in the morning for another check, also to rule out UTIs. BP is fine, but have really bad oedema in hands and legs. So I too am also being assessed for possible pre-eclampsia. Had an awful headache last week, been ok this week, but have been told if I get another one I must go get my BP checked.

suey2 · 06/12/2007 16:03

ambi i am due monday by dating scan, today by LMP.
Gosh, bouncing, you are not due for a wee while yet? still, your LO will still be fully developed if they have to induce. I didn't have protein in my wee, TBH i think it is more of the same slightly glucose intolerance issue for me, but am glad they are taking it seriously nonetheless.

Bouncingturtle · 06/12/2007 16:08

Not too much longer - I'm 37+4 today, but measuring more like 39 weeks.
Baby is doing well, nice strong heartbeat - 140bpm. Just looked up on gender predictor what the significance is - apparently less than 140 it's a boy and more than 140 it's a girl. Turtle is determined not to let me know until it has arrived

mellymooks · 06/12/2007 16:10

Welcome Trip.
Big hugs Fifi!!

Ok ignorant first timer question here - is having a sweep same as actual induction? I'm thinking it isn't but not certain could someone please clarify for me? Thankyou!!

Ambi · 06/12/2007 16:22

Don't think so melly, I had a sweep yesterday, which is pretty much an internal exam, soooo not pleasant! Check if you're dilated and cervix position and can help jolt things along. I think induction is where they gives drugs or pessaries/gel to start labour. Got Cons appt next week to get induction date, but it's getting bit to close to xmas for my liking. Patience has never been a strong point of mine.

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 16:25

Melly - A sweep is just to try and get things going naturally and the m/w will be able to check your cervix etc.

An induction is actually going in to have pessaries/drip to start contractions.

mellymooks · 06/12/2007 16:26

Thanks Ambi. That's what i thought. MW has said I can have sweep at next app. when i will be 40+5 if nothing happens btwn now and then. At the mo I'm not sure I will want one at that point but I guess i may feel differently if nothing has happened by next Wed....

mellymooks · 06/12/2007 16:28

Thanks Fifi, if you have to actually have an induction does that rule out a HB?

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 16:28

I had a sweep with ds1 at 41 weeks, it did absolutley nothing for me at all i still had to go into get induced, even then ds didnt want to come out.
But it does work for some people though, sil had one and she went into labour the next day.
