Wow, wow, wow, what an amazing eventful day it's been comgrats all round to the new mums and heres hoping the rest of us have something to report soon!!!

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 08:44

Morning everyone!!

Well i'm back and my daughter is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! We are so proud of her, she's a little angel! She doesn't cry for very long but when she does, she gets really stroppy (like her mum)

Anyway, here's my birth story:

As you'll know from the labour thread, i'd had a show Tuesday morning which basically didn't let up at all. DP got me to phone the hospital at around 9pm just to let them know what was going on (i'm far too laid back for my own good). The contractions at this point were coming about every 10-15 minutes and lasting for about 30 seconds. I was told to ring back when they were about 5-7 minutes apart and so an hour later i was on the phone to them again. A midwife eventually turned up at 11.30pm to assess me and told me i was 3-4cm dilated. By this time my hind waters had started to leak a bit so i knew it was deffo going to be soon.

It got to about 12.30am and the contractions started to become alot more painful (hence the lack of posting lol). Then at about 1.45am the mw suggested i get on my knees and lean over the sofa to try and ease some pain. So i got down on my knees, leant over and then POP GUSH !!!!! My waters well and truly broke (thank goodness for the plastic sheeting from the pool!) and i felt really helpless being on all fours with all this stuff gushing out of me! The mw noticed that there was meconium (sp?) in my waters and then told me i couldn't go in the pool. GUTTED!! By this point however, i was in far too much pain to really care and couldn't move much anyway!

She called for a second mw at this point (!!!) and then told me to resist any urges to push for as long as possible. I held off for as long as possible and could feel the baby slowly moving down my birth canal. It was the weirdest, most amazing feeling!! It got to the point when i could feel the baby's head getting extremely close to coming out so i told the mw that i didn't think i could hold on for any longer. She told me go ahead and push and I felt the head easing it's way out. Apparently DP said it was so surreal when he saw this little face looking up at him from me! So then i pushed her shoulders out and she shot out!

And what was the first thing i said?!! "OH MY GOD!! IT'S A BABY!!" I think that despite all the scans, the kicks etc i still didn't quite believe that this little person was going to come out of me!

Oh I should mention that i did it all WITHOUT ANY PAIN RELIEF WHATSOEVER

I had to have stitches because of second degree tearing, but to be honest, it wasn't that bad and i finally managed to have some G&A for that!!

All in all it was a wonderful experience which DP and I will obviously remember for the rest of our lives. We've both been like blubbering grinning mad people since she's been born. It's wonderful!!!

mellymooks · 06/12/2007 09:11

Wow RG!!!! Fantastic birth experience, total respect on the no pain relief!! Sounds so incredible and makes me even more excited about my own soon to be experience of it all. She is so gorgeous....ohhhh so wonderful and exciting.
My sister said exactly the same words when she had her first too!!!
Now off you go and enjoy every moment, though don't forget to update us regularly and keep posting up the odd photo!!
So happy for you and yours, big love and hugs xxxxxxxxx

loucee · 06/12/2007 09:14

RG what a lovely birth story. No pain relief - that is bloomin hardcore! You brave brave woman!
I hope you're all settling in together now and that your son is enjoying his new sister too.

How's everyone else this morning? I had a really restless night, couldn't sleep between 3-5 so got up and ate cereal (couldn't work out if I was hungry!). Read a leaflet from the midwife about baby's positioning and it's got me in a tizz that baby IS back to back (OP) which is making me nervous so will talk to her about it at appointment tomorrow.

Still not to late for those pelvic floors

Bouncingturtle · 06/12/2007 09:20

Well done RG! What a great birth story
And yes your little girl is gorgeous!

Amani · 06/12/2007 09:33

Morning all,

I want one NOW!!!

Skid - with you on the 'goop' issue

cazzybabs · 06/12/2007 09:43

RG - have tears in my eyes! YEs - I rmember the feeling of the head - which while painful was amazing!

Hoe you are managing to get some sleep!

What a lovely story.

Lizzer · 06/12/2007 09:53

God I'm tearful here, what a beautiful story, how amazing RG, what a gorgeous little girl and well done on your no pain relief. I bet it felt nice to be in control (I remember with gas and air and peth last time thinking, 'well really, what an odd time to be completely off your face!I want to remember this') I really want to try without anything this time too...

Thanks for the PF reminder Loucee! I'm squeezing Try not to worry as baby's often turn in labour....

cazzybabs · 06/12/2007 10:03

Loucee - i am sure your mw would have told you if it were back to back - mine did at about 36 weeks, but it had turned by 38 weeks. Look in your notes and see if she was written what postition it is in.

fifisworld · 06/12/2007 10:13

RG - your birth story was amazing, and without pain relief as well

I had quite a nice day yesterday, went for my hair cut so i feel a lot more 'ready' now if that makes sense.
Mil had took ds out for a few hours so i came home and just put my feet up.
I could not get settled at all last night in bed, i was havingreally bad pains in my back and really strong cramps but they stopped about 3am.

The only thing thats keeping me sane is that 'this time next week i will be in hospital having my baby' so i know ive only got a week at most to put up with feeling like this

Hope everyone else is ok, oh and congrats to Chocp

littleoldme · 06/12/2007 10:22

Hi everyone. I haven't posted much on here but have been lurking - sorry!

Quite a few babies on here already which is fab news. Congrats to one and all.

I'm a week overdue now and will probabaly be induced next week. I've really been resisting it but I'm past the point of caring now.

Hope everyone is doing ok and I'll try to catch up with you chatty lot soon.

suey2 · 06/12/2007 10:49

RG what a lovely story! I ahve tears in my eyes. Congrats to chocolate peanut.

I ahve one request- can i be next please

insywinsyspider · 06/12/2007 11:53

congrats to chocp and loopsy - lovely birth story RG and gorgeous piccie of dd! I'm always amazed when people write a birth story, ds's was a blur, I should have made notes straight after to look at later!

meme & sarah - how are you doing today?

I had haircut yesterday too, taking ds later for one, xmas pressies 90% done, still not written a single card as not sure how many names to put on yet! wishful thinking! mum and dad having ds tomorrow night, going to have a word with baby that that would be a great time to arrive as we wouldn't have to worry.... RLT time I think!

Ambi · 06/12/2007 12:04

Have nothing uplifting to say at the mo as feeling really rubbish (think the weather isn't helping), will go back to bed shortly to try and sleep it off. Although am loving gorging myself on shortbread biscuits and chocolate. Why is daytime telly so naff? Jeremy Kyle and Bargain Hunt style progs all day, I don't know what unemployed peeps do all day!!! It's driving me insane. Please baby arrive shortly before I get commited!!

Glad everyone else is feeling pretty good though, and the new babies that are starting to arrive now, it does feel rather imminent like we're all getting on a rollercoaster and were going over the first dip one at a time!

dundeemarmalade · 06/12/2007 12:08

ambi i know what you mean about lack of daytime entertainment. dh has run off in the car again so am marooned at home, in the rain. at least animal park is on a 2pm!

am well fed up today, despite all the lovely birth stories/bf posts etc. whinge whinge whinge. again. anyone heard from thelady?

macdoodle · 06/12/2007 12:10

oooh quite tight regular braxton hicks (I think) and pelvic pressure am now 37+1 (although according to MW only 36+4) so have to hang on till sunday or will not be allowed in MWL

macdoodle · 06/12/2007 12:12

oh and if you guys are bored I have tons to do....
filing/paperwork/forms/finances/business etc etc
PACK HOSPITAL BAG (I know I know)
get babies room ready
sort out our bottom floor builders coming monday
about a hundred phone calls and e-mails
and thats just to start

Ambi · 06/12/2007 12:14

I'll take the paperwork macdoodle, sad aren't I?

Amani · 06/12/2007 12:16

Ambi - completely agree with you on the day tv issue. Got hundreds of sky channels and not one thing decent on. A friend gave me the name of a website - www.alluc.org where you can watch future episodes of Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty etc if you want something a bit more interesting that DIY and chat show programmes.

Congratulations to Chocpeanut - missed that one.

McDoddle - with you on the pressure pain issue in the pelvic region - it blooming aches sometimes.

Amani · 06/12/2007 12:19

ambi - glad am not the only one feeling a little bored on mat leave. Wish baby will make appearence.

DH and I are going meat shopping on Sat, so hopefully next week I will be a bit more busy cooking lots of dishes to freeze. anyone got any suggestions as to what is easy to make and will freeze well? thinking of doing a couple of curries and chilli.

macdoodle · 06/12/2007 12:23

oh well done on cooking have already decided DD and I wil be eating lots of beans and spaghetti on toast..also cereal as she can actaully make that herself for both of us

cazzybabs · 06/12/2007 12:31

macdoodle - shall we pack our bags tonight as a deal? At least you are not overdue yet....

I just can't be bothered to do mine...I keep thinking I'll just grab a few things at the time and then I read what other people have in there's and think of shit I have non of this stuff...not even sure if I have anything to wear in bed should I need to stay in...

and no maternity bra...

but do have a very cute white bear thing (with ears and paws....) from gap...so the db will be OK. ANd have nappies and pads...

So basicially in my bag will be make up, tooth brush and paste, pads, nappies, a pair of knickers, the bear thing, a vest or 2, a towel and that is about it...oh and a glass...I need to drink lots and lots of water whilst bf.

mellymooks · 06/12/2007 12:57
