Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

By the way, PMSL at "elegant" labour. Is that possible? Maybe if you have an epidural and have little or no pain, but you still have to push, which could never be described as elegant...

beansprout · 20/12/2007 11:03

Lol at the description of elegant labour.

God forbid you would swear - what would they think?!! I actually worked with a woman who took that most lovely of words, "cnt" to a new level during her labour, as in "you cnting cnt I hate you!!" type exchanges with her dh. Sweet.

Am feeling better today but had forgotten just how uncomfortable it is to walk around with someone's head in my pelvis!!!

manamana · 20/12/2007 11:05

confused - says there are 27 pages but can't get past 26 so sorry if i've missed any news on no. 27!
Blue - just wanted to post for you - am in similar situation. Have spent entire pregnancy fretting about whether to have cs or not as had such problems after first delivery, when SPD kicked in it helped make me more certain about my decision but as we get closer i start thinking about how lovely it would be to have a straightforward labour/delivery/recovery and get back to normal sooner rather than have recovery after cs added to my list of ailments! However, I know for me that when I actually sit down and think it through the idea of another delivery like last time is too traumatic and I would rather have to go through a new set of probelms (cs related) rather than have to cope with prolonged SPD, or breakdown of my fanjo repair knowing I could have prevented it. Sorry to you first-timers, don't want to alarm you - majority of natural deliveries are problem-free and i've just had very exciting news of 3 new babies who arrived pretty rapidly (to diff mums!) with no damage to mum or babe. Off to see midwife later for check on sugar levels so am attempting to have a sugar-free day to avoid any advice that I should have a sugar-free christmas!!!

sarahmikeandharry · 20/12/2007 12:04

Hi everyone-

Just finished my house work !!!!! smells of bleach and looks gorge until the troops come home!!!!lol

Hope everyone is ok,

sarahmikeandharry · 20/12/2007 12:05

sorry there are some typo's in there!!!

zany · 20/12/2007 12:06

Loved the elegant labour comment - I think DH is going to be very shocked at my language , but will obviously try and be creative in my screams

Pk616 · 20/12/2007 13:04

I think I'd rather like to have an elegant labour.....
I have visions of Midwives in evening dress and the finest linen sheets on the bed. There'll be a string quartet in the corner playing upmarket lift music and I shall be sipping on champagne in between my contractions!
When it comes to the pushing phase, an art deco screen will be pulled around me and a midwife. Dp will be taken off for some cucumber sandwiches and a cup of tea out of china cups or a spot of brandy should he look a little peaky. I shall labour as quietly and peacefully as possible and out will pop baby. the midwife will clean her up wrap her in some more of that fine linen and pass her to the wet nurse. Meanwhile one of my ladies in waiting will pop around the screen, wash me down, do my hair and makeup and slip me into a fresh gown.
The screen will be pushed back just as DP is ushered back into the room and baby placed gently into his arms.....
....Sounds like a smashing way to give birth, do you think they can provide me with this on the NHS?

OP posts:
widgetsmummy · 20/12/2007 13:17

PK - put it on the birth plan and see what they say

zany · 20/12/2007 13:38

LOL I think you should add that to you birth plan and see the look on the midwives faces when they read it!

Jo9977 · 20/12/2007 13:42

I thought that was the norm for all NHS births?...

saskia71 · 20/12/2007 13:48

Mutha2beagain ? you made me laugh, no about the name, but my husband does call me Niles at times. I take it that your new abode is far removed from a white colour scheme.

Pk616 ? you sound wonderfully creative. I love the concept of the giant smartie tube you made. We have some of the finest talent in design, British designers such as Mathew Hilton, Terrence Woodgate and Jasper Morrison, to name a few. Unfortunately their work is not known to the wider public. Then there are the greats from the 20th century such as Mario Bellini, Achille Castiglioni, Eileen Gray, the list is endless. Great design is timeless, makes the pulse race and influences the way we live. Younger designers take elements of iconic pieces and rework them for a wider audience. I bet even designers for IKEA have taken their inspiration from some of these greats.

Lovemymum ? thanks for baby bath comment. I will be having a caesarean so that is why I?m planning to place the bath on the draining board. For me the main criteria are easy filling and waist height. The kitchen is also very warm because we have the heating on all the time (shocking bills). Where will you be using your Brevi station and how will you fill it? I too loved the elegant labour comment. Unfortunately for me it will be anything but! What with the sexy stockings with pumps attached, a hospital gown and all the tubes hanging out I will look a sight. Will your DH be attending to you in his professional capacity, or is his speciality in some non-obstetric field? (I spoke with my anaesthetist this morning and he told me that I am booked in for the 6pm slot. The good thing is that I will be able to settle in my room first, and after the procedure should be sleeping for the rest of the night. I think this is more to do with the drugs than because I want to, I will be so excited about the baby.

Off to do some internet baby shopping now.

leesmum · 20/12/2007 14:16

Hi ladies how's everyone doing?

Firstly happy belated birthday to Rozzy, Princess and Joosey i hope you all had great sober birthdays!!

Lovemymun enjoy your last day at work

Egg i think i may be starting with my usual christmas cold so i feel for you. God my bladder was shot to pieces anyway without me pissing my pants every time i sneeze

Beansprout i am back at mw tomorrow morning and it will be interesting to see if baby has moved down any more, i have had a few pains but nothing like the week before when i had to hold my breath in cos it hurt so much.
No name change for you then? i like Beaneatingsprouts[fart emotion]

Gosh 93pjb i dont envy your huge car journey, will you be having pleanty of stops? make sure you let parents run aroun after you and try to get your feet up.

Bluedomino it sounds like you need some serious tlc, try and rest up as well hun x

Has anybody heard of ladle? i hope she is doing ok with the twins.

And mini do you still have your legs firmly crossed...lets hope so, take care x

Pk616 · 20/12/2007 14:28

widget and Zany - I might just do that for the laugh!

Jo - sadly not, not a linen sheet or an art deco screen to be seen and the tea is shocking!

Saskia - Thank you, I am somewhat creative, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! I made the smartie tube for my mock GCSE textiles exam back in 1995 and I am very attatched to it as it's the craziest final piece I've done to date (although I am a tad ashamed these days as the real king was the original designer of the tube! but I didn't see things like that back then). I'm a little more refined these days as I've specialised in embroidery but I try to keep an element of bright colour, 3D and the slightly odd in everything I do. I can see how Hilton, Woodgate, Morrison, Castiglioni, Gray and Bellini would go together nicely, they share a sexy use of line!

OP posts:
gingermumi · 20/12/2007 17:29

Hey ladies, havn't been on line for a couple of days, there's too much going on on here to answer so will just update my situation, went to hosp wednesday, they have upped insulin and bp has lowered(prob cos i'm not at work!) so providing i see gp friday and mw monday i don't need to go back to hosp until after chrimbo. Will still be delivered early but at least it wont be christmas week!

Not sure who it was that asked about sick leave but legally they can't put you on maternity leave until you are 36 weeks so get another medical certificate that covers you up til then otherwise you will have to go back or opt to be on mat leave, seems a shame to waste the mat leave if you can carry on being off sick!

Take care everyone

mutha2beagain · 20/12/2007 18:05

PK616 - loved the description of an elegant labour. How hilariously glamorous is that?? I think we must make the assumption that it's not blood but liquid icing sugar that courses through the arteries and veins of this fantasy ice queen in "slight discomfort", and that her divine baby will emerge from a faberge egg that she deposits silently at the end of the perfectly white bed. Maybe such an etherally calming scene could be well deployed as a visualisation technique when one's trying to contain those overwhelming contractions. It's all beginning to sound a bit like Scientology.. It's got me thinking I can tell you...

Saskia - yes my house has veered from monochrome white to a vibrant rainbow of reds, oranges, purples, aubergines and pink - interspersed with grubby fingerprinted walls (can't believe I need to totally redecorate after only 4 years), stickers around DS's bed and grubby football boots in bags in the hall Such is life. Somehow Habitat seems to always pick up on my colour scheme at Christmas which means that that has been my one stop shop for xmas decorations for the last few years and I'm loving my tree. However, I am getting a bit sick of it and want a change. Trying to steer DH to the Rug Company to choose something with even more riotous colour and that will be the inspiration for recovering all my furniture which desperately needs it, seeing as I'm going to spend rather a large part of my life in my living room for the next few months! Have you got any good recommendations for loose soft furnishings makers who can take on some lovely but rather tired looking B&B sofas?

Ginger - glad to hear that things have stabilised and that you can keep
on going with the gestation for a bit longer without Xmas going out the window. Hope things continue to be OK for you.

Sorry to hear some of you have colds - think I might be sneezing a bit more than normal and yes, there is a pelvic response at my other end. Oh dear, must remember those all important floor exercises, but whatever happens fanjo will be a cave for a good while after the birth.....[flbush]

Did the last of my Xmas shopping today at Selfridges - always leave DH till last and then I can just devote one expidition to him. Anyway he's got half a dozen little pressies to unwrap on Xmas day lucky sod - not sure what's going to be under the tree for me though. I'm a bit dictatorial when it comes to what I like. Next stop is supermarket on weekend - bird and ham joint being delivered - and then we are done. Lovely.

Taking DS to a show tomorrow - really getting in xmas mood now. Have a good evening everyone.

LOVEMYMUM · 20/12/2007 18:20

Gill - you may have misunderstood. I'm leaving my job as I'm not going back after the birth (not earning enough to pay for childcare). I'm chasing the money i'm owed for holiday pay - i took holiday days while working but didn't get paid for them. (But you do accumulate holiday days while on mat leave).

I've ordered the Brevi bath changer from Mothercare. Its about £85. I'll let you know what i think of it.

Samsmam - how come you have 55 days owing to you - that's more than a year's allowance!

LOVEMYMUM · 20/12/2007 18:28

Hi Saskia - will wheel the Brevi into the bathroom and fill it up using a hose attachment to the tap. You seem really into design. I bet your baby's nursery is going to be stunning!

What have i started with "elegant labour"?!

DH is a general physician - so i will ask him to monitor me and the baby but when it comes to delivery, i have left it up to him whether he wants to me in the room or not, cos my mum will be there anyway. I don't want the sight of a baby coming out of my lower parts to put him off sex, cos i'm looking forward to having sex without a bump in the way.

Is it just me - or is anyone else losing their memory? I bought a piece of chicken before work, left it in the fridge with a post-it on my desk and still forgot it! (will pick up tomorrow).

LOVEMYMUM · 20/12/2007 18:34

Sarahmikeandharry - my bp is like that anyway during this pregnancy. As long as it doesn't get too much higher with no protein in urine and swelling you should be ok.

I hope you and DH sort things out - its really not good for pg women to get stressed. I'm not just saying that - our hormones are experienced by the baby and relaxed mothers are more likely to have relaxed children.

Finished last day at work today. Altogether now: "Zippeedee do-dah, Zippeedee day, my oh my what a wonderful day".

Hope all you who have colds, SPD etc are feeling better or at least managing a bit of a rest. Sorry i can't mention you by name - memory going by the day!

sarahmikeandharry · 20/12/2007 20:31

Thanks lovemymum,

its great to get reply!!!!

really trying to keep calm, but am just so stressed!!!!! days seem to be getting worse!!!lol

Might have relax in bath and read!!!!

beansprout · 20/12/2007 21:15

Finished work today. Actually feeling a bit sad atm. My lovely boss is leaving while I am off so we finished working together today after five and a half years. I work in a small team so could go back to an all new team. Anyway, have a baby to give birth to first!!
I had a v generous pile of leaving pressies too - not a baby item amongst them, all chocolate, Molton Brown stuff and books. Just what am I going to do for the next few weeks....?

And that day that every girl longs for... seems that several pairs of my maternity trousers are already too tight. Nice. If that doesn't boost my self esteem, I don't know what will.

pobletsmum · 20/12/2007 21:20

bluedomino - what was the outcome at work? Are you on maternity leave now, or still off sick? I hope it worked out OK for you. ginger's advice sounded good.

mutha2beagain - liquid icing sugar and faberge eggs - I'll remember that when I go into labour!

ginger - great news about you hanging on a bit longer

bluedomino · 20/12/2007 23:19

Hello all, sorry I was so down yesterday, I sounded like a right moany cow. Feeling better today, saw GP & he gave me diazapam to try to relax the muscles for my sciatica. Assured me it won't harm the potato baby. My last looked just like a potato when she came out, but she has improved! Also spoke to GP about c-section & it helped a bit as he said he would prefer to recover from a c-section rather than another broken coccyx. Thats without worrying about the 3rd degree tear. [eyewatering emotion] My special tights came today, I swear they weigh half a pound, & felt like neoprene - soooo sexy. DH said I'm not a sex kitten anymore but a sex camel with my hump. I had a elegant moment during last birth, I was in the pool, sucking gas & air when I passed it to DH and said in a more tea vicar kinda voice "Darling, would you like some?". I was so paranoid about swearing as I knew quite a few of the midwifes, I said to the mwife "Please can I have the f..pethidine now?" Great idea to make the birthplans entertaining for the midwifes, I can't believe anyone could actually plan their birth, you have no idea whats going to happen. Pobletsmum, GP signed me off for another 2 weeks but I am putting off phoning weirdo boss, he just creeps me out. My office will probably close 2 months after my mat leave ends so I sort of don't really care.
Hope everyones colds disappear soon, I used to laugh about Tenaladies with my drinking mates but now they are a vital bit of kit . Goodnight allx

leesmum · 21/12/2007 08:19

Bluedomino glad you have been to your doctors and feel a bit better about everything. You are not a moany cow you are more than justified in being a little bit pissed off I had maternity stockings in my first pregnancy because i was on my feet all day, but bleedin' hell it used to take me half an hour each morning just to get them on so i'd be knackered even before i left for work. lol

Ginge so glad everything is ok and you wont be having baby any earlier than you wanted.

Beansprout i too am down to only two pairs of maternity trousers because my arse is HUGE!!

Well i'm off to see mw this morning to find out baby has burrowed down any more. She will be taking more blood as well to see if iron tablets are working, i think they are though, the other day i went to loo and didnt realise i'd left something behind (sorry if tmi) and dp came in bedroom laughing "who's been putting coal down the toilet" cheeky ba#@ard!!

manamana · 21/12/2007 10:01

Hi all. Great news Ginger, and Blue - glad to hear you've got longer off work and some drugs to help . I saw midwife yesterday and no sugar this time so wayhayhay can stuff myself silly over xmas!!!! We're madly beginning our mammoth tour of rellies and friends this afternoon so when you hear all those travel announcements this afternoon we'll be stuck in them! Really looking forward to slobbing around at other peoples houses and intend to take full advantage of my condition and do NOTHING while ds is entertained . Not looking forward to pain of car journeys but it'll be worth it. Am packing a mini-hospital bag with me just in case! So, anyway HAPPY CHRISTMAS everyone - hope you all hve lovely chrsitmasses and that everyones health holds out. Special xmas greetings to ladle and mini if you get to read these - thinking of you and your littlies xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MERLYPUSSEDASAFART · 21/12/2007 11:18

Done my last cub scout meeting last night and they presented me with £50 mothercare voucher. Told them I will be back from time to time and by summer (hopefully) full time as I don't think I could stay away. They are such a great bunch of lads.
Cold has returned with a vengeance today and OH has it too. Was like a consumption ward here last night. Admitted defeat and took pain killers last night as the twinnies are kicking the billy-o out of my ribs. Hopefully reduce my temperature too. Still felt bad though.
