Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

LOVEMYMUM · 15/12/2007 17:12

Hi Saskia. Gosh, you are organized! I'm not one for ironing but have to admit - the cot seems like its going to be lovely.

beansprout · 15/12/2007 17:20

Ouch, am having lots of period like pains today. Really uncomfortable low down at the front. Perhaps baby is just moving down but it's really uncomfortable and a tad unnerving.

Have read that I should lay down and see if the pain stops. Well, dh is out and I am with ds so that's likely to happen!!

Pk616 · 15/12/2007 17:29

Bean - give your midwife a quick bell and see what she says! it could be nothing but it's better to check!

Pk616 · 15/12/2007 17:53

Yup I've often wandered how the human race managed to get to the modern era with all the pregnancy related hazards that are supposed to be out there including my pet peeve...Can't eat unpasturised or mould ripened cheeses 'cause you'll get ill and it ain't gonna be good (ok, over simplified, I know!) - So before the advent of modern medics and know-it-alls did shed loads of french brie eating pregnant women keel over with listeria? Oh and here's another one, You can't eat things with peanuts in when you're pregnant 'cause you'll make the baby allergic, what a load of cobblers!!! my mom ate loads of different nuts, including peanuts, when she was pregnant with me and not only am I not allergic, I love 'em!
I know there are a lot of bad things that can go on in pregnancy and that it is very demanding on the body etc, and I'm very glad that I'm having this baby after the advent of modern medicine and not before. However, if we rigidly follow every single bit of advice put forward by the experts out there I don't think we'd know which way was up 'cause so much of it is conflicting or confusing or both!
Ooh and don't let me get on to the subject of the so called care that we get through out our pregnancy...
My mate is diabetic, with her first child she didn't even have a midwife so noone gave her any advice on anything other than her blood sugar control!
When it comes to me, my midwife was really dismissive with me up until 24 weeks 'cause I'd "either loose it before then or I wouldn't" I mean what kind of attitude is that? On top of that I'm 32 weeks and nobody has talked to me about birthing/parenting classes or my labour preferances I wasn't even consulted about where I'd like to give birth and there are 2 hospitals near by, one midwife led, one consultant led, surely that gives me 3 options to choose from!
OOps I think I've ranted on a bit too much here!!

OP posts:
LOVEMYMUM · 15/12/2007 17:58

Its ok to rant - i hope you feel better now!

I had to ask my hosp about parenting classes and have got booked in for htem.

Pk616 · 15/12/2007 18:02

Bean - I like the look of that sling, it's comfy looking

Alkar - Congratulations on the commencement of your maternity leave! I did sleep better, thanks, I've decided to sleep permanently propped up from now on. It's not the most comfortable position in the world but at least it'll avoid that particular kind of disturbed night! I've not got a smaller appetite either! I was so pleased that I'd lost loads of excess fat since being pregnant but the last few weeks I've been ravenous and I think I might have put all the wobbly fat back on again! still, the foods been good!

Joosey - The cheese thread is ace by the way, even DP is loving it! Glad to see you have your priorities right for your birthday! Thats the way I'd work it all out too!

OP posts:
Pk616 · 15/12/2007 18:17

Sarah - nice to hear from you lass! Leaking boobs, already! Hey at least you know they're still working!!! Merry Christmas chick!

Love - I do feel somewhat better actually! I seem to be storing rather a lot of pent up fruatrations, annoyances and emotions at the moment. I was looking on the internet earlier to see if there was a local doula that would work for free/next to nothing and I welled up! hmm hormonal? I am planning on asking the midwife when I see her on Tuesday 'cause it's all getting a bit close now and I'm nervous and christmas is gonna create a bit of a back log for these services as well I presume! Did I mention that I'm nervous, oh and hormonal!!!

OP posts:
beansprout · 15/12/2007 18:18

We tried out the sling with big ted today. Worked quite well!

I know I should call the midwife but I think I will leave it for now and see how I am tomorrow or if things progress, lazy moose that I am.

Pk616 · 15/12/2007 18:23

Tried out the sling with a teddy bear.... Ya saft muppet!!!!! mind you I suppose you've gotta test these things out, haven't you!! look after yourself beansprout

OP posts:
beansprout · 15/12/2007 18:24

Ds wanted to know how it would work!!

LOVEMYMUM · 15/12/2007 18:49

Hi PK.

Nervous - yup - sounds like me too!

DH has gone out for the evening with a mate and I'm nervous about being alone at night. Not worried about intruders - more worried in case anything untoward happens with the baby.

I got married in Feb and need to do my change of name for bank account etc and just realised i also need to change standing orders after i change my bank account name - more work to do!

manamana · 15/12/2007 19:36

violeta and pk - scarey times!!! glad to hear that probably the thrush and nothing sinister and pk - have started taking gaviscon regularly as your tale scared me so mch! Has worked as last night I slept straight through from 1am to 7am for first time in FOREVER
Am watching x factor final while poor dh has been sent out to Tesco to do a major xmas pressie/decoration etc shop. Hormones are all over the place though - i keep crying when they go back to their junior schools
Good to get a good moan out PK. I'm feeling better than last post emotionally but just absolutely knackered - pain/discomfort is so draining and i am getting snappy with ds which is making me upset - poor little guy is just being really wriggly/jumpy and crazy like all 2yos should be but when its so difficult to move its really hard to keep up with him. But he is sooooo funny, for those of you first-timers these are the times that make it all worth while - he's v v funny, talks all the time and says the most ridiculous things like 'where are my teeth' halfway through esating his dinner.
beansprout - i had those periody pains yesterday so its reassuring to hear that its not just me. I figured they must just be braxton hicks - i don't remember having them at all last time but I'm guessing that if they are your womb having practice contractions then that's what period pains are isn't it?? Anyway, not so bad today but will call midwife if they get any worse. Am going to pack my hosp bag this week as we're away for xmas - [scarey emoticon]

beansprout · 15/12/2007 20:45

Mana, that is reassuring for me too! I keep thinking that I should go and get some nappies and then telling myself not to be so silly!!

bluedomino · 15/12/2007 22:59

Joosey & PK616, I've had really bad acid indigestion both pregs, Gavisgon is rubbish, my GP will no longer prescribe it as its too expensive, instead you get PEPTAC its much nicer taste though. The best thing I've found so far is Bicarbonate of Soda, about a teaspoon in water, it makes you burb big time. Also Love Heart sweets are really good through the day. Coffee makes me worse, bizarrely Grapefruit juice seems to help, I tried it as kill or cure one desperate night. Ice seems to help too, but I have a serious ice craving at the moment. Hope you get some relief soon, it really is the most bloody annoying thing. Gud luk, Dx

jooseyfruit · 16/12/2007 06:15

Bluedomino-Thanks for the tips. rapidly coming to the same conclusion about Gaviscon.
Is peptac only available on prescription?

I must admit i'd thought about bicarb after watching 'how clean is your house' and one of them was going on about adding bicarb to something to neutralise the acid!! Bet it tastes grim though.

That is so weird about the grapefruit juice, it's making my stomach ache just thinking about it!!

Thanks again, off to by Love Hearts today i think.

jooseyfruit · 16/12/2007 06:19

I think the nesting instinct is kicking in. I'm up, it's stupid o'clock on a sunday morning and i'm itching to start tidying out my messy daughters room!!
Anyone else having an attack of the Anthea Turners???

leesmum · 16/12/2007 08:19

Hi everyone.

Gosh we've not had computer working for over a week and i've missed you all.

I'm trying to catch up but my pregnancy brain is making it hard

How are you doing ladle? I can't believe you have your babies already. I hope they are getting nice and chunky, give them a snuggle off me.

Sorry to hear some of you are suffering with heartburn and thrush both are really horrible, and i think gaviscon does bugger all, i think it does'nt matter what you take if your lo has their feet pushed up youre gonna get it anyway.

Well i finished work yesterday and i could'nt bloody wait to get out of there!!

I will be 34 weeks tomorrow and when i went to see midwife on friday baby is already 2/5th engaged and i have to go back each week so she can keep an eye on me. My ds was born at 35 weeks so i have to be extra carefull this week, it's just as well im not in work. Well they do come when they're ready so a lot of it is out of my hands.

Take care everyone and have a lovely weekend
xxx

beansprout · 16/12/2007 10:21

Wow Leesmum - sounds like you are ready to go!!

Is your bag packed?

jooseyfruit · 16/12/2007 10:58

Cripes Leesmum, hope you get to enjoy a bit of your mat leave before LO arrives!!

Take it easy!

leesmum · 16/12/2007 12:35

Bags packed and all set!!

I would really prefer it if this one could stay in a bit longer

I would love some mat leave before he arrives especially at this time of year. With ds i only had 3 days off before he arrived, and i had loads of nice stuff planed as well...

I might see if anyone on pregnancy thread has had anything similar happen.

beansprout · 16/12/2007 12:37

Someone I work with had her baby the day before she was due to go on mat. leave!!

gingermumi · 16/12/2007 14:26

Hey ladies! If you don't log on for a couple of days so much happens!

Violeta - Hope you're feeling ok now.

PK- that choking thing has happened to me too, it's really horrible. I have a permantently sore throat from te reflux now. Anyway, i doubled the dose of gaviscon and take it regularly through the night, go for prescrpition strngth rather than over the counter strength ( you can buy both but obviously it's free on prescrption).

Ruva- Wow, i guess your anunty has her special reasons for nights then! I'm torn between shock and saying 'go-aunty'. You must look after you thpugh what ever happens.

Beansprout and Mana - take care, I would get things checked out if they don't improve.

A quick update on my situation - I actually wouldn't believe this was all happening to one person if it was someone else! Got call from hospital friday, the tests they did on wednesday show a urine infection and possibly signs of pre-eclampsia! Each time i think it can't get worse it does! Sent to GP for antibiotics, she has signed me off until baby comes. Have two appointments monday, routine 34 week one with MW for bloods and anti-d, day assessemnt unit in afternoon to see how baby is doing and to do tests for pre-eclamsia again. Seeing consultant wednesday.

Feeling really frustrated as everything is so up in the air now, Christmas just makes it worse! Trying to be philosphical about it all and would be more than happy if they say LO will come before Chrimbo.

93pjb · 16/12/2007 16:43

PK - know what you mean about stupid health advice. I was really good about following all the advice up until I saw this news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,91168-1285008,00.html.

What on earth are you supposed to do??!! So either don't touch peanuts or you'll give the baby a peanut allergy. Or if you don't touch peanuts you'll give the baby a peanut allergy. Can't exactly find a middle way there I'm afraid.

So I've given up on the whole thing and if I fancy it I'll have it (in moderation) with the exception of liver pate. Oh and all that shark meat I used to eat .

pobletsmum · 16/12/2007 18:15

leesmum - we'll all watch this space then...

Ginger - I can't believe they've found even more problems! At least you can have treatment though before things become dangerous.

Saskia - I thought of you when I bought my latest baby purchase - a £5 cotton cellular blanket from mothercare - it will probably be washed & tumbled squillions of times without ever seeing an iron. DS was a very sicky baby (until he was about 10 months or so) and his blankets needed to be washed & dried most days. I would dearly love a cashmere one 'for best' but finances and the fact that I detest household chores (washing delicates & ironing high on the list!) mean it would never happen here.

Talking of household chores... I seem to be getting less and less done around the house. I'm talking essentials here - I can't remember the last time I hoovered or mopped the kitchen floor . What on earth will I be like when I have a baby to look after too? My situation's not helped by the fact that we're having work done throughout the house (including plastering, carpentry jobs etc - very messy), and DH is working on the house every free moment, so can't help with day-to-day things even if he wanted to. I'm still at work too until this tuesday, so maybe I'm being hard on myself, but I feel a real tramp. I've thought about hiring a cleaner just for about 3-4 months (2 hrs a week) to see me through the trickiest times, but can't really afford it. DS will still be going to nursery 2 days a week while I'm on mat leave (might drop down to 1 day if I can't keep up financially), so I will have a bit more time for cleaning, but I just don't feel as though I have the energy or enthusiasm. Is anyone else out there facing the same useless & guilty feeling every time they come home/get up etc? Sorry for the whinge. It's such a minor problem in the scheme of things, I know I'm lucky to have a house and a wonderful family, and no serious pregnancy scares. I do think myself very lucky really...
