Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

LOVEMYMUM · 13/12/2007 20:42

Hi mana - seems like you need a virtual hug too, so i'm sending you one!

LOVEMYMUM · 13/12/2007 21:28

Just wondering, is anyone else losing their appetite a little bit? What i mean is, i still get hungry but can't eat a lot in one go and prefer to graze rather than have a proper meal (eg, a piece of cheese and fruit and then toast an hour later). Maybe its cos i'm running out of room!

tyaca · 14/12/2007 00:00

lovemymum - i wish!! my new fave snack is an entire kellogs variety pack . i've never even eaten cereal before....

last night was my work xmas do and we went to a posh mayfair restaurant. i polished off so much it was embaressing. liver and onions for starter... great big plate of bloody chateaubriand for mains.... hmmmmmmmmmm

jooseyfruit · 14/12/2007 03:22

it's 3 in the morning,
i'm up writing christmas cards,
i've got a steaming mug of earl grey,
and two buttered muffins,
and i feel surprisingly chirpy,
am going to do kids pack ups soon.

God, i'm gonna feel shite in the morning.

saskia71 · 14/12/2007 10:07

Hi lovemymum,
To answer your question, I wash cashmere in the wool cycle of my machine using the lowest spin speed and Persil Wool and Silk. Then lie flat to dry, followed by pressing with a warm iron with a moderate steam setting. I iron through a layer of cotton. This works for all my knitwear, so it should be fine for the blankets.
The embroidered sheets will have a delicates wash at 40 followed by 600 spin speed. After drying, I would press with a hot iron with a high steam setting (I have one of those separate iron and steam generators). I know this sounds like a bit of work but the items are only small.

My cons in fetal medicine advised against using cot bumpers and muslin drapes over the crib (although he agreed that they look lovely in photos). This makes for quite a plain and boring crib in my view, so the least I can do is buy interesting bedding. I?m excited by today?s delivery, it should be a baby pashmina.
"This site has some super items if you are interested"

gingermumi · 14/12/2007 10:26

Thanks Lovemymum and your DH, am being a good girl, I even tested level when I got up at half three for breakfast! You're not alone Joosey! Was up 'til about 5 then went back to bed, eventually went back to sleep, over-slept and was late for work. Am going home soon anyway as I don't have much to do today and do feel a tad tired!

On appetite - i do get hungry but fill up really quickly so eat a little and often - good for the diabetes too. Have a good day everyone.

Jo9977 · 14/12/2007 10:30

How ya feeling joosey???!!!

Still, that's better than I do at night - I see 1, 3 and 5.00am but just toss and turn, go to the loo and dig dh in the ribs to stop him snoring!

hope people are doing better today...

Lucyand2turtledoves · 14/12/2007 10:52

So tired...zzzz
Fell asleep during In the Night Garden then got woken up by the coal delivery so I had to go out in the garden in my PJ's looking half asleep. I think I caught the guy smirking a bit at my bright blue with ducks dressing gown.
DD kept waking me up last night for no reason so I may keel over today.
Gingermumi - sorry to hear things are so complicated for you with the GD. Hope things go smoothly from now on!
Hugs to everyone who's feeling rough today

tyaca · 14/12/2007 10:52

hmmm..... buttered muffins.... darn you joosey!

Pk616 · 14/12/2007 11:27

Well I had a really pants night...
So I'm curled up, next to the oldest man, snoring my little heart out(probably) when I, suddenly, sit bolt upright and I'm coughing and spluttering. As my brain catches up with my body I realise that I can't actually breath in, at all! So at this point I'm standing up, the oldest man is awake and deperately asking how he can help, and I'm making some of the most horrible noises trying to get a breath in and stop the choaking. I did manage to sort it all out, eventually, but in the process I'd wet myself (so busy trying to breathe I hadn't even noticed) so I had to take myself off for a wash.
I'd got indigestion, can you believe it! I nearly drowned in my own bile! NASTY! I've had indigestion so bad for so long I don't even feel the heartburn bit and have no idea that I have an acid emergency until it's reached the back of my mouth and I can taste it! obviously when you're lying down this is a bit of a choaking hazard!
I rearranged my mass collection of pillows in to the trusty sleeping ramp, couldn't get comfy on my side and spent the next 3 hours staring into the darkness terrified that I wouldn't wake up if it happened again!
I fell asleep in the end, and it didn't happen again!

OP posts:
Gill79 · 14/12/2007 12:14

OMG. There are so many hazards! What a nasty way to wake up. Guess you're not having a great day today as a result - hope the weekend is better!

Pk616 · 14/12/2007 12:21

I've only been up for just over an hour and I'm already considering going back to bed for a rematch!

sleep vs reflux

place your bets please!!

OP posts:
Gill79 · 14/12/2007 12:32

lots of milk before you lie down?

Pk616 · 14/12/2007 12:38

just nearing the end of my first pint of the day! loving the stuff!

OP posts:
violeta · 14/12/2007 12:42

Oh, Pk how horrible... Get back to bed, girl. You know it makes sense!

Thanks to all those who reassured me they're also getting the nausea thing. Bleurgh!

I had a bit of a panic situation last night cos had a bit of bleeding at work. The hospital told me to come in straightaway (taxi across London at rush hour!) and they kept me in most of the evening for check-ups. Turned out they were worried thag I may have had a show (eek!) and kept me in in case my waters broke. Not that they told me this though till late on when eventually, after being put on a monitor and being examined, etc that I could go home and to rest as everything was okay. They had told me originally they wanted to keep me in overnight (saw the reality of hospitals folks, and it's not pretty!)so to say I was pleased to come home was an understatement. The care was great though - both midwives and doctors were fantastic and very friendly, kind, etc so maybe the Whittington isn't so bad after all... I haven't had any bleeding since, and one theory they had is that it may have been caused by thrush (ah, thought I was unaffected by that!) and have been given the obligatory box of Canesten to sort it out. So, I get the dubious honour of joining that group of sufferers!

I did give myself (and both sets of families!) a hell of a fright though. A restful weekend ahead of me methinks!
xxx

Pk616 · 14/12/2007 12:51

My god, I'd of paniced (sp? - it just doesn't look right!) too! Glad to hear everything's ok, even with the new thrush club membership, and that the hospital staff were a quality bunch. Here's the deal...
...You take it easy and let folk wait on you a bit and I'll go back to bed (once I've took the laundry out of the machine, written an posted this letter to my mate in the land of dragons and had a bath!)

OP posts:
jooseyfruit · 14/12/2007 13:00

blimey violeta, you take care mate. sounds very scary. hope you feeling o.k today. REST plenty (if you can!)You can now be a member of the canestan gang!!

PK- i had the same thing two nights ago (reflux choking incident) Flippin' awful, have been guzzling Gaviscon constantly, even get heartburn when i'm upright! woke hubby up making so much noise coughing and spluttering.

Have not managed to get back to sleep after last night nocturnal madness. Got all me cards written though!!
Buttered muffins were good, but did pay for it later with heartburn.

Feeling very shite, now, kids at their dads for weekend, i get to do nowt!

Take care lovely ladies.
Mat leave starts officially mon (which is also my birthday!!)
God i sound smug

ruva · 14/12/2007 13:02

Hi all, i guess the sandman did not visit many houses last night, was up till 4am this morining-its a long story, though managed to catch up with an erotic historical mills and boon-have placenta praviea so have not done the deed for four months.
Gingegumi-found out my aunti is working nights through out christmas thats why she wanted everyone to go to hers- her dh is not happy but i am not going to invite him over to ours as i will worry about him drink driving. I told her to change her salary into 1p coins and count them as she will be a lonely old cow. She is having an affair with a male nurse in the hospital so there is no guarrantee that she will be working.

Pk616 · 14/12/2007 13:14

Joosey - It's nice to know I'm not alone with the reflux choking challenge! Gaviscon is bloody useless really isn't it, You take some and 15 minutes later the acid is back again, milk however is an absolute dream, and to think I've been craving clotted cream, double cream and ice cream for a couple of weeks and it took me until 3 days ago to try a glass of skimmed milk instead! Scones n clotted cream was nice though (I just dread to think what two weeks of culinary debauchery has done to my figure!) At least you get to have a bit of a break now. Oh and happy birthday for monday as I'm bound to forget by then!

Ruva - Sounds like you can put down the mills n boon and just quiz your aunt about her encounters with the male nurse (tell me to f'off if I've crossed a line here!)

OP posts:
violeta · 14/12/2007 13:15

Cheers Pk!
I guess you've tried glugging lots of Gaviscon? Heard that it's the best stuff for heartburn. I'm sure you've been there, done that though!

Oh, and Gill, yes, I'm pretty keen on a water birth as well. In the freebie DVD that the NCT send out (sign up on their website) there's a woman there who gives birth in water. I read quite a bit on here as well, and people particularly seem to rave about how it's good for pain relief early on. But it's so hard as a first-timer, isn't it? You really have no idea how you're going to deal with the pain and although I want a natural birth (ideally in water) I may be screaming to high heaven for stronger stuff too! Just have to play it by ear, I guess!

Egg · 14/12/2007 13:19

Bloody hell lots going on over here!

Violeta, glad all is well but very scary for you. Had not realised thrush could cause bleeding, esp if you had no idea you had it! Anyway, as diagnoses go that's a good one, far better than what they might have said .

PK your choking incident sounds horrifying! I sometimes (not just in pg) wake up choking and thinking I am about to be sick, but nothing even close to what you had. As for wetting yourself, I am not surprised!

Anyone heard anything from Ladle? Hope all is ok, I am sure she is just busy going back and forth to hospital.

And mini? Are you resting quietly somewhere or are you having babies?

DS has yet another cold and cough, so he is not sleeping well. Thank god it's the weekend soon.

Egg · 14/12/2007 13:20

I was planning on trying for a waterbirth last time, but everything happened rather quickly and I never even mentioned it when I arrived, it was all I could do to get my clothes off and push!

violeta · 14/12/2007 13:21

Hmm, sorry PK, crossed post. Ignore my very redundant suggestion!

Cheers Joosey - rest and take it easy!

ruva · 14/12/2007 13:26

Pk-you have not crossed the line-except you have made me laugh so much that i thought my baby was going to spill out through my lapro scar,
My fil has dismissed the baby name i wanted saying its a gay icon in spain. i said i dont care-sebastian what do you think?.

Egg · 14/12/2007 13:30

I love the name Sebastian and it made our shortlist for DS .

Not considering it this time though, for some reason, but still like it a lot.
