Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Samsmam - GP shouldn't be telling you to buy stuff in chemists for thrush. Apart from the fact that they won't sell you it once they clock your bump you're entitled to free prescriptions! I had thrush right through my last pregnancy - same as a lot of you it was worse after sex. I read somewhere that you could pass thrush onto your partner so I made him use the caneston too! Can't remember if it worked but he did say he'd had a bit of an itchy willy!!

I'm now off work until Monday then only 2 days next week which is good! Then only 3 weeks back after Christmas - suddenly seems quite soon!!

Hope everyone well!

beansprout · 12/12/2007 19:59

Ginger - you are hereby entitled to be fed up with that list of things. Humph. Hope you are ok.

Egg - I too have a cushion. Dh still hates it from last time as I spend the night cuddling it and not him. Damn right!!
It's just great to have something to lean on and take the weight. Ahhhhh.

CountTo10 · 12/12/2007 20:22

I wedge myself with cushions at night!! I have a v cushion under me, a normal cushion between my legs and then a little wedge cushion under my bump!!! Ds is not sleeping well at the moment so is up 3 or 4 times in the night. It's killing me but I guess I need to get used to it!!!

manamana · 12/12/2007 20:38

Ooh ginger, sounds rough - at least they're keeping a close eye on you so maybe with all the appts the time will go more quickly {hopeful emoticon} take it as easy as poss. Am feeling chirpier than my earlier post - less than 2hrs of visit left to go. Thanks for suggestion lovemymm, I am v lucky that I have a WONDERFUL mil but that makes things a bit tricky as can't have her come and stay without asking dm - ho hum, I keep trying to remind myself that some people don't have anyone and I just need to rise above dm's negativity.
Yes, I too am loving my pillos - v shaped one, one of those bean-bag style ones underneath bump, lots more pillows under head to fight gas and there's the one between the legs (still tied together - (i know that's freaking some of you, its only a dressinggown cord - no leather straps ). Sleeping not too bad at mo - think its because I'm taking things V easy so SPD pain has subsided a lot

gingermumi · 12/12/2007 21:14

awww, thanks for kind words. Feeling a bit emotional but ok. We are going to try to get a bit more organised for Christmas, that will take my mind off things and if i know everyone/thing sorted at home it wont seem so bad if i end up in hosp around chrimbo week. It all seems very wierd and close now and dh says he would like another one! Told him he can right ofF!

gingermumi · 12/12/2007 21:15

A bit harsh I know!

beansprout · 12/12/2007 21:24

But entirely understandable!!!

Have just ordered my sling! Am very excited!

Pk616 · 13/12/2007 09:09

My goodness, you stay away from the board for a day and a bit and look at all the stuff that happens!

But memory still like a sieve so having read everything I can't remember who said what!

Thrush... Defo get GP to prescribe, why pay when you don't have to! Also defo get DP to wear protection if having sex, My Dp caught thrush of his exW (twas years ago, but he still told me all about it!) Treatment involved a lot more than a pessary and some soothing cream! He had to have some creepy metal umbrella type thingy shoved up his japs eye to scrape the gunk out, a thoroughly unpleasant experience, so I understand!

Sorry to hear about all the really stressful complications people are having. I hope you all take it easy and that everything comes right in the end. Masses and masses of sympathy coming from me!

Bean - I want a sling, but just can't decide which kind to have! Everything baby orientated comes in so many different styles and types, each with really good recommendations and a list of perfectly logical sounding reasons as to why it's the best one over all the others, so I spend most of my time in a spin!

Anyway, hope everyone is keeping as well and as happy as possible.

I'm off to see the bleedin' MIL now - lovely woman, salt of the earth type, no brains-not a single thought provoking electron, way too clingy (first grandchild and she thought she wasn't going to get any), always buying me stuff I don't like/don't want/don't need/have already/that wouldn't last 5 minutes, can't cook without using a gallon of oil and half of the globes salt but won't let me leave with out a meal. As I said, lovely woman, but such a head doer!

mornin' all. sorry to hear about the thrush and the cystitis. the few times i've had anything wrong in that region it was agony, my heart goes out to you.

and chin up to all those with mums and MILs around at the moment. its so frustrating when you love 'em but they still do you head in.

i am v low today. fighting old demons in head. taken day off work and now need to do my best to use that time to make me feel better rather than think myself somewhere worse!

only a couple of bits of news:

think i may be the first of us on mat leave?? finished the body of my contract this tuesday, so only a couple more days in office to do a tidy up then done. hurrah! i've spent last 6 years (but esp last 12 months) working so so so hard, it will be strange waking up without a "To Do" list already half formed in head

next up: new hobby guys, i fully recommend. i've started following the Due in Nov/ Dec Ante Natal threads.... its so much fun reading the birth stories and following news of their LOs arriving.

finally a v silly argument with DH... he's been coughing loads and not sleeping. i woke him up getting into bed the other night and he made some comment. that reduced me to tears and i stormed off to sleep on sofa - thu s leaving him in peace.
he followed, telling me i should have bed as am pregnant and he'd take sofa. i pointed out he had to work in morning, i didnt and i'd stay where i was thank you. he then stormed off to sleep on kitchen floor!! it was stalemate for a good twenty minutes before i finally cracked and got us both off our sofa and kitchen tiles back into bed where we slept just fine....

widgetsmummy · 13/12/2007 11:01

hey all - sympathy on the sleeping front, my problem is heartburn... someone mentioned that it can be worse for shorter women coz the distances are shorter or something?? old wives tale? I roll up my side of the duvet and hug it, tucking it under the bump and between legs, then use a separate blanket to cover the rest of me. sounds complicated but seems to work!

beansprout - what sling did you go for? really want one but am like PK, no idea where to start.

I got stressed with MIL yesterday too... all DH's siblings are now over 18 but she treats them all as if they are still kids, this time getting in the middle of all the christmas present decisions and joint buying ventures that have gone on. I just wish she would take a step back, it doesn't need her interference, everyone is a grown up and can manage. she just gets stressed, thinking she has to do all this stuff for no reason which winds me up! Christmas Day could be interesting!

anyway rant over. sorry for the long post!

widgetsmummy · 13/12/2007 11:04

tyaca - glad you both managed to get to bed... know that kind of arguement. bless you both... irrationality is somehow catching and I can be so stubborn with my DH over stoopid things!

MERLYPUSSEDASAFART · 13/12/2007 11:14

We have 2 premaxx slings which I thought looked quite good. Have since read on t'internet (th only review I could find) that they are rubbish. Anyone have any views?

Gill79 · 13/12/2007 11:15

Bless - love the image of your DH stomping off to sleep on the kitchen floor!

Oh dear Ginger - I guess big isn't always good! Must admit I had been wondering if I might have been overdoing it on the sugary stuff. I'm sure everything will be fine, and you'll also get to meet your baby that bit sooner, but must be a bit unsettling not knowing when they're going to decide to go for it. You must be enormous though with all the fluid as well.......

I had a pharmacist refuse to dispense the thrush treatment to me even though I had a prescription from the GP! Stupid man.

violeta · 13/12/2007 11:46

Oh, so much news to catch up on! The 3rd trimester seems to be taking its toll, huh?

Sleeping, agh! I can only seem to sleep on my right side (so therefore back turned to dp). Pillow under my bump and bum stuck halfway across the bed. Dp complains (halfheartedly) about his space being encroached and also that I don't hug him as much as before. I do try, but seem to get nauseous on my left side. God knows why! And as for the hippo type turning in the night... (thus waking him up every time as well!)

Sorry to read about your woes, Ginger. Good you're getting regular check-ups.
Tyaca: Congrats on reaching maternity leave! I finish tomorrow for Xmas and then Jan will be a mix of full and part time, I should think, depending on how things go.
beansprout: Also planning to get a sling, though not sure which one. Which one did you go for? Seems to be quite hard getting one suitable from birth.
Gill: Stupid pharmacist - you'd think a prescription would be enough, wouldn't you?!

Oh, has anyone else got the demon of morning sickness back again? Have thrown up the last few mornings and rang midwife cos I was concerned, only to be told it was perfectly normal and to perhaps expect it from now on (baby pressing on my stomach during the night) Eek! Thought I was past that stage!

Have a great day everyone.
xxx

zany · 13/12/2007 11:51

Glad to hear Im not the only one having MIL issues. Mine wants to move into ours when the babe arrives ..... told DH that she can move in but I'll be moving into my parents

On another note its the festive season and I cnt help but eat loads of chocolate and cakes! Is this really bad for the baby? Starting to feel really guilty Went to my first ante-natal class and I seemed to have the largest bump even though most were due before me .....

ruva · 13/12/2007 12:17

Hi all,
went for my antenatal class, and clocked out the size of tums, i am feeling better now as we were all the same size as some people had pointed out that i was too small, my nasty sister had said if i did not eat enough- the last weeks of pregnancy i would be put on a diet of a tub of butter a day to fatten the baby scary thought.
I need to order my turkey but people are still squabling about coming, my aunt says i don't have the monopoly to christmas but i can accomodate 8+ people staying over night but she wants us to drive to her house for 2hrs and back, home it's not going to happen.!!

widgetsmummy · 13/12/2007 12:25

zany - went to my first class Tues night and did a little tum comparison. one lady due 10 days before me very compact but the others are all later than us by a couple of weeks and seem at least as big! so depends on what you wear too

feel very wide today, me in profile is a shocker! keep catching sight of my reflection and giggling!

gingermumi · 13/12/2007 13:10

Violeta - am sick again too, have been on and off for last couple of weeks. I think it is to do with pressure on stomach, they told me yesterday that (in my case) it was probably the fibriod squashing it but it could just as easily be the womb/ baby.

Ruva, stick to your guns!

We have paernt craft classes on Saturday - not a moment too soon I think!

Gill79 · 13/12/2007 13:49

Meant to say Samsmam - doesn't your LO look so cosy in there! Must be such a big shock for them when they come out!

Is anyone thinking of a water birth? I'm feeling a bit undecided about this - as far as I can tell at my hospital there is one pool and it's first come first served - no booking. But if you want to deliver in water you'll take precedence over someone who's just wanting to use it for pain relief. I'm thinking I would quite like to deliver in water but have absolutely no confidence that I won't be screaming for pethidine or epidural in which case I'd have to get out. So it seems like it might be quite unfair if I was to turf someone out when they are having a nice relaxed time and then decide twenty minutes later that I'd much rather be lying in bed with an epidural. Hmmm.

Or has anyone had a water birth and got any wisdom to share on its benefit?

pobletsmum · 13/12/2007 16:20

violeta - I never got rid of the nausea & sickness, and for me it's got worse as heartburn has increased. Bleurgh!

Gill79 - don't worry about changing your mind when in the water. That's what women in labour do! You can't be expected to stick to your birth plan if it doesn't suit you at the time. If I don't have an elective section, a water birth will be my 1st choice, although like you, my hosp has only 1 pool room, so I don't want to get my hopes up. The alternative is to hire/buy a pool for using at home, but I'm not sure about doing that myself. Is it something you've considered?

Gill79 · 13/12/2007 16:58

Hi Pobletsmum - tbh the logistics of hiring a pool, filling it etc are way more than I could contemplate! Plus the only room for it would be in the conservatory - temperature in there yesterday morning was 1 degree.....

Amy78 · 13/12/2007 17:04

Hi,

Lovemymum - The school doesn't have a lift as there is only one class upstairs and the rest is offices. However, having been made to work hands off with the kids I seem to have spent mostof the last couple of months working in the office doing paperwork, etc. Thankfully I've only 1 more week to go til I start maternity leave - roll on the 21st!!

Had my visit to the hospital last night. Was fantastic to see around but bloody hell what a grim and depressing place the midwife and labour units were!! Everything was painted a really dreary colour and the ighting was so dim that you'd probably be straining your eyes during the daytime!! They too only have one birth pool so it's a case of first come first served. However, if you plan for a water birth yo don't have prioriy over someone just wishing to use it for pain relief.

As for morning sickness - don't get me started!! Am seriously looking forward to stopping work.

Hope everyone's niggles and pains are improving!

saskia71 · 13/12/2007 19:21

I had my routine wellbeing scan today. The baby is doing very well. It was lovely seeing the 3D and 4D images. Saw my obstetrician next. He was pleased with all the test results and the scan info. So far so good.

I ordered an Emmaljunga pram/pushchair system in the end. Have also placed the order for the nursery furniture. One of my glider cribs has arrived, and Hubby will have a go at putting it together over the weekend! Since I don?t have the energy to visit boutiques in London, I have been ordering over the internet. It has been lovely opening boxes containing cashmere blankets and embroidered Swiss cotton sheets (I love boxes and ribbons). That?s the crib bedding sorted. Next on the to-do list is baby clothing. More boxes to anticipate and open soon.

LOVEMYMUM · 13/12/2007 19:50

I think we're all getting a bit fed up of being bigger and looking forward to meeting our LO. I also feel a little bit grumpy.

Re. sickness - i thought i had some kind of vomiting bug on Tuesday but maybe it was just from my ever-expanding bump pushing everything up. I feel much better today though and hope those of you who are feeling queasy are doing better.

Samsmam: Wow, hard to imagine that i have a little being inside me, even though i saw your photos. Amazing!!!

Saskia: Cashmere blankets & embroidered cotton sheets sound lovely but without wishing to sound like my mum - how do they wash and do the sheets need ironing? Sorry if i sound bossy.

Ginger: Oh dear, you do have a lot on your plate. DH is a Dr looking after women with GD, so on his behalf, do whatever your consultant says but don't hesitate to ask questions. Your Cons only wants to look after you and your baby. Please monitor your blood sugar and what you eat and be responsible (ok, lecture over, sorry).

manamana · 13/12/2007 20:32

hi all. sorry brain can't store all info to reply to everyone individually but sending virtual hugs. Just popped in for some sanity now that my parents have left - just feel like crying after the stress of it all. Gonna have a big bath but have to tidy house first cos have got cleaners coming to spring clean the place tomorrow - haven't been able to tackle anything since onset of spd so will be brilliant to have a clean house again (well, for a day or so...). Went to midwife today, iron low and trace of glucose so am on iron tabs and got to go back next week for sugar check again, inevitably cried on her about whole date issue for cs and she said she would write to consultant to insist that i get a date when i go back on 7th Jan - she has also written elective cs in big letters at the top of my notes as I was worried it wasn't written down any where - ridiculous how much that has made me feel better.
