Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

Oh she's a cow with a 'holier than tho' complex, even worse!

I mean, her tough, not that she was tough on me. It's a small office (6 employees incl me) and another colleague is off cos of blood clots in her lungs (non-smoker and only 20 - spoke to her earlier and she is doing ok).

I suppose i shouldn't have said that i felt ok when she phoned. I do feel ok but a bit odd with it too. Am not pushing myself cos going shopping with my mum tomorrow for baby stuff and have learnt that when i feel tired, rest.

Pk616 · 11/12/2007 13:03

Oh ok. Bad news about other colleague and her poorly lungs, that's got to be hard to deal with.

I think you're right to take it easy though, you're the only one who knows what your body wants after all.

Sorry to sound like i was whinging. I just felt a bit fed up cos i like my job: it makes the day go faster and i feel weird not having the energy to keep going. I know i have to put the baby first. Anyway, my office have rung me up recently and told me not to come in cos there's no work for me to do (i type invoices) cos i've cleared it all - not so good when i only get paid when i work! (Didn't raise this with them cos i started job day before i found out i was four weeks pregnant, job is local and parttime and so suited me down to the ground.)

Pk616 · 11/12/2007 13:24

Hey don't worry about it, sorry to have got so evil against your boss!!
I typed invoices at my last job too!

Bloody hell, PK and Leggy were very chatty earlier. Leggy hope appt goes well. LOVEMYMUM hope you are feeling a bit better, if you have raised BP and are feeling a bit off you are doing the right thing staying at home.

Ruva, my ante natal classes were for the girls only, but with one evening session at the end for the boys too. I preferred it like that as was much more open and chatty with just the girls.

MERLYPUSSEDASAFART · 11/12/2007 13:28

Just checking in. Had a long lay in this morning - 10am. It is getting far too regular. Feel like a complete slob. S'pose I must need the kip though or I would have woken earlier.
Measured my bump. Have a 46'' waist (if you could call it that). Used to be a size 10. That's some serious growing. 8 weeks to go. Oooh Eck !

Gill79 · 11/12/2007 13:28

How exciting - our first babies! Congratulations Ladlemonk and good luck with the next few weeks.

An exciting day here too cause we've just had a scan and found out we're having a boy! We were completely in two minds about finding out, but what made up my mind was the sonographer trying to convince us not to find out.... He's doing great and already 5lb with 8 weeks still to go.

Had another day in hospital yesterday with a bit of bleeding and cause the obstetric unit was shut I was in the delivery suite with a woman giving birth in the next room - far far too much reality for me especially when I popped into the adjoining bathroom and came face to face with her placenta on a trolley.....[white-faced emoticon]

Pk616 · 11/12/2007 13:40

Egg - I know, it's been a chatty day for me today! I can't help it, I'm bored senseless at home on my own. I've got a million and one things I could be getting on with but none of them are particularly inviting so I've been hanging around the internet pestering peeps with my opinions etc.

merly - Sleep while you can lass, that's my moto! I've just measured my once was waist, 43" and I'm a bit behind you so pleanty of time for me to cartch up those 3 inches!!

Gill - Congrats on your sexing news. Shocking hosp visit story though! Just lying there on a trolley, not surprised you need a white-faced emoticon for that!

Anyway I'm off for a bit because I'm probably annoying the pants off everyone!

leggylil · 11/12/2007 16:13

Hi all am back from hospital and school run....

had some good news and bad news (sort of anyway)

good news is baby is doing well and weighs aprx 4lb 3oz (which now seems small compared to gill )
His head is down and legs are high (which i knew already cos have felt his bum in ribs for days!!) they're not too concerned about my earlier contractions on friday because have had the steroid injections baby is prepared for best possible start IYSWIM,have booked an appointment for 4 weeks time but to quote the doctor its unlikely I'll need it (thanks for that eh!)

bad news is I have Beta-haemolytic streptococcus group B (which is apparently some kind of bacterial infection in the vaginal area -charming-) so have got to have an IV antibiotic drip when do go into full labour to protect baby from infection feel a bit upset over hearing this, I asked if it has anything to do with the fact have had constant UTI's and cystitis during this pregnancy but was told totally unrelated but not told what it actually is or whats caused it which is annoying

anyways thats my news update

Bessie123 · 11/12/2007 16:35

Leggylil - sorry to hear about the strep, but it's good news in a way - now the hospital knows about it, your dc is much safer than if the strep went undetected...

Glad LO is healthy.

Gill79 · 11/12/2007 16:38

Bad luck leggy (and hello btw)but if you can look on the bright side at least you know about it and the LO will be protected - read about this and scared myself only this morning in fact! There's a support group here where you might find out more about it:

www.gbss.org.uk/?gclid=CP7byurSoJACFQztlAodq3MRHA

It looks like it's VERY rare for it to cause a problem and also like it is really common to have the bacteria, so in my very uninformed opinion nothing to feel bad about, just lucky you've been tested and are being sorted out since they don't seem to test as standard practice.

Right, if anyone's got a bigger baby than mine I want to know about it - am aiming for MN glory and taking away the Biggest Baby prize (Luckily it all seems to be in the tummy rather than the head!)

Gill79 · 11/12/2007 16:42

Sorry, I'll go away in a minute - just updated my profile with a picture of the baby's face....

Pk616 · 11/12/2007 16:59

leggy - glad to see the bairn's doing well and sorry about the strep

Gill - cute baby face, not you, the bairn!

OP posts:
violeta · 11/12/2007 17:08

Congrats on the boy, Gill! You have so much willpower not to have found out till now! I had to know at 20 weeks - well, if it's right of course - have been reading the 'they got it wrong' gender scan threads!
May I ask - did you get a scan on the NHS? I know you're in London as well, so I was just wondering.

Leggylil: Bad luck on the strep B, though agree that it's a good thing that you know. I have now scared myself reading about it as well and will ask about testing when I get to 35 weeks. Good to know you can get private tests for £30 or so if the NHS don't offer it though. Thanks for the info!

leggylil · 11/12/2007 18:39

thank you so much for the link (good to finally have some idea of what it is) and am glad and greatful to know has been detected this early (and at all if i'm honest) seeing as it's not a standard test (have signed the petition on the link)

I do think the NHS should take more action into making it more known to mums to be to create more awareness seeing as it can have devestating consequencies if left undetected.

I know its not a common thing but surely like everything else that can be detected during pregnancy isn't it better to be forewarned and safe???

Gill79 · 11/12/2007 18:45

Hi Violeta - yes it was part of my NHS care but only because I had a low placenta at 20 weeks so not part of the standard "package". Placenta moved up now so now I can look forward to a normal delivery Speaking of which one of the magazines in the waiting room this morning had a cover story of this woman delivering a 14 pound baby on gas and air alone - what a thing to leave lying around an antenatal ward! It was one of those "my dog ate my granny and my sister is actually my dad" type magazines so written to shock and not reassure the pregnant lady!

Amy78 · 11/12/2007 18:59

Sorry I've not been in touch - been signed off work with my SPD and the internet at home has been playing up something rotten Has taken ages to catch up on all the posts - aren't we a chatty bunch Can't believe that there are wee bundles arriving already - i hope that they are keeping well.

Leggylil: You are much better to find out now. My friend had here baby 12 weeks ago and her infecion wasn't picked up. Anyway, her wee lad ended up in SCBU for a week on antibiotics as he picked up the infection from her during the birth. I've been looking into getting tested for it but you have to pay to get it done privately here as it's not done on NHS. Seems daft really

have my first ante natal group meeting tomorrow night. Geting a tour of the hospital then I have to wait til January for the next meeting - hopefully DH will be home by then and able to come long. He'll be fine so ong as there's nothing squimish. I swear he'll pass out during the labour.

Take care everyone xx

princessllama · 11/12/2007 20:13

mine did pass out at the antenatal class and during the labour when the epidural went in

rozzyraspberry · 11/12/2007 20:51

Legg - my friend also had undetected strep and her little boy was really poorly for a while. It was only picked up when they realised he had lost too much weight post birth and had to be readmitted to hospital for anti biotics. When she was having her second they attached an iv to her as a matter of course to avoid this and her little girl was fine. It's great that you've been diagnosed with this now so that your little one is protected and will be fine.

beansprout · 11/12/2007 21:01

Argh! Am so out of touch with you all!!!

First and foremost - Ladlemonk - congratulations and welcome to Leo and Orly . Wishing them lots of love and strength as they go through the next few weeks. Hope you are ok.

Am 32+6 and finish work next week. Just have far too much on and am finding the commute etc just too much now. I could count the number of times I have been offered a seat on, well, one finger which doesn't help!

Will try and post a bit more in the very near future!!

gingermumi · 11/12/2007 21:16

Wow, lots going on today! I asked about Strep test weeks ago and was told there's no point! sounds like everyone should have one as a matter of course to me. typical NHS tight-wad behaviour.
Have diabetes clinic and consultant, scan etc tomorrow. Really tired as have been to meeting an hour's train away today. Pathetic I know but it seemed a very long day

Samsmam · 11/12/2007 21:25

Still haven't read thru all posts, definitely chatty!

Just reading about the strep b thing, does everyone just automatically get tested for it?

Just wondering as well has anyone suffered what seems like constant thrush, or has anyone treated it successfully in pregnancy?

CountTo10 · 11/12/2007 21:25

Blimey you don't post for a while and look what happens!!

Congrats ladle, I can't believe we have our first nubies!! Hope everything is well and settling down somewhat

I finish work at the end of next week and I cannot wait. My head is so not in it at the moment!!

Had my midwife today and she was in a crap mood!! They still haven't found my notes but she's now on the case. After everyone telling me I looked tiny I'm measuring within my dates which is fine. Head down but back to back so hopefully baby will move round a bit. Baby was breech at weekend so I'm hoping it won't move that much!!! Had both glucose and proteing but blood pressure is fine and no swelling so hopefully that was just a small blip. Other than that progressing well!!! Now down to fortnightly visits so feels a lot closer all of a sudden!!

Hope we're all well and not too on the edge!
