Cool, @Inmypjsagain, all updated!

Re second dose, I'm having a nightmare. I've literally just got off the phone with the vaccination line, due to my likely c-section I should have my second dose brought forward, only by a week. I was advised at my first dose this wouldn't be an issue at all. Then I've been back and forth for 8 days with them now, my MW emailed too explaining the situation and I'm getting, excuse my French, fucking nowhere 😤 The bureaucracy is unreal. There is a review board apparently and they might not come back to me next week which defeats the purpose. Stories like the one you mentioned really stress me out.

I've had my NCT, it was OK-ish, the BF session was pretty useless, the rest a bit better. The group was fine, two nice girls and their husbands, the rest was fine, chatty, but not really my kind of people for regular catch ups IYSWIM. We have a WhatsApp group, but no one has suggested a meeting now, there has been an idea thrown in to catch up once they're all born, but randomly we have someone in the group who isn't due till late September....so I can't see it happening till October, it'll probably fizzle out by then 🙄. Maybe I'll give a message to one of the nice girls before but I don't want to be awkward. Overall, disappointing IMO and don't think I'd do it again. xx

Inmypjsagain · 10/07/2021 14:05

Thank you for updating x

Sorry, it was pretty thoughtless of me to share the COVID story actually, I wasn’t thinking. Didn’t mean to stress anyone out. Baby is fine and she’s well enough to be texting us all, hopefully they’ll be reunited.

@PurplePansy05 ugh that really is annoying, just feel like it shouldn’t be this hard! Do you have any walk in centres near you that you could attend? I’ll end up doing that if I get nowhere with the Drs.

Ah that’s interesting you didn’t get a chatty bunch as well. Our last due date is end of august and the content leader booked in a formal reunion start of October. She did say we could contact her at any point about breast feeding and stuff too which was good. But I know what you mean about not people you’d necessarily meet up with. I guess I’ll see on Monday if we all get to talk but it seems like the only thing in common is pregnancy and locality. I do think face to face would be better… having others nearby will be good for baby classes and stuff so it might be worth a message to the nice girls! Peanut has been quite successful for me- there’s a group of 6 ladies who I’ve met and we have a WhatsApp chat. First baby due in the group on Monday! All seems very real!

RandomCatGenerator · 10/07/2021 16:18

What is Peanut?

Inmypjsagain · 10/07/2021 16:40

@RandomCatGenerator it’s an app that bills itself as tinder for pregnant women and mums so you can meet people locally who are due at a similar time to you etc. You complete your profile with photos, a bit about you and what you’re using the app for (friendship, advice etc), it brings people up near you and you swipe up if you like the look of them, or down if not. If you swipe up on someone and they swipe up on you, you get a match and can message. When you join you have to take a selfie but it’s not used on the app, it’s just to validate you’re human! I’ve had a good experience with it but you do have to make an effort to chat to people on it. Think a few others on here have used it too

Daffodil21 · 10/07/2021 16:56

@RandomCatGenerator yes I've also used it and ended up meeting with someone 20 mins away who's due 2 days before me. I didn't expect to actually meet anyone on it as I live in a pretty rural area but I'm glad I gave it a go!

Re NCT - I had my second session today with the BF to go on Tuesday. Its been OK but then I remembered how much I paid for it and got a bit peeved. I think the free one by the midwives would have been better, plus it's more local as the only NCT one they had was Edinburgh based which is about an hour away. The people were very nice but I don't see us meeting up. I think I'll still do the free one, despite being totally coursed out, as I'll meet more local ladies and hopefully meet up with some. I'm relying on post birth groups like baby yoga etc to meet like minded mums. I don't have any local friends at all seeing as I've just moved here. My mum doesn't count!

@PurplePansy05 ah OK, I think I'll end up just getting the strep test through the post and do it myself. The midwife just said they don't do it and that was that. So I'll order it on Monday.

Doing a bit of tidying this afternoon which is good as I can actually see the floor in my bedroom now 😂

Ready2020 · 10/07/2021 17:09

Oh, one thing about the NCT breastfeeding part is that apparently due to the rules of who run the course they don't mention formula and just about cover using bottles. While it is titled 'breastfeeding' I really hope they mention that it's not for everyone and formula is fine too!

livingwithbees · 10/07/2021 17:12

Ooo can I join please? I’m due on 16th August, no idea whether boy or girl, looking forward to the surprise! My obsession with Fairy fabric softener has officially kicked in and I’ve washed EVERYTHING in it multiple times Grin
I’m a bit on my own with the tiny baby thing, my social circle and family have all got kids the same age as my DD3 but I’ve been the lone pregnant one this time around.

biscuitcat · 10/07/2021 17:41

@Ready2020 my NCT breastfeeding session covered formula too, so it could be down to the individual teacher too? We didn't cover it in any great detail but just spoke about brands, if you need to bring to hospital, possible impacts on milk supply etc.

lucyrp · 10/07/2021 17:42

@livingwithbees snap we have the same due date! Although baby is measuring quite big already and I was early with DS so hoping I'll be early again witb this one.

@Inmypjsagain it's not so bad tonight so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

PurplePansy05 · 10/07/2021 17:50

My NCT covered formula too and it generally wasn't focused on EBF. It's just that it was too much info, too rushed and the woman delivering it was talking too much about irrelevant stuff and not answering people's questions concisely. xx

Inmypjsagain · 10/07/2021 18:01

Really thought nct would be more standardised on content! Formula was mentioned very briefly, but as very much as a back up if you can’t breast feed. May be that our group as a whole was keen on breast feeding which may have swayed it but I commented to my husband after the session that I didn’t learn anything about any alternatives or if you struggle. (Should we pack formula in our hospital bag?) There was a bit on expressing and how best to bottle feed though.

Also seems like nct can be a touch and go with people as well, the only reason I signed up was to try and meet people, otherwise I’d have stuck to the free sessions.

@livingwithbees welcome 😊

@lucyrp glad you’re feeling a bit better!

@Daffodil21 oh that’s good! I didn’t realise the lady you met was so local and due so close to you!

livingwithbees · 10/07/2021 18:03

@lucyrp ahh snap indeed! I was 2 weeks over with my first and not keen to be overdue again so very much hoping for a little bit earlier than the 16th. When you say your baby is measuring big already - is this using the fundal height measurement? My midwife hasn’t commented either which way so far so I’m not sure what I should actually be if that makes sense? You’d think I’d remember this all from the first time around 🤦‍♀️😂

lucyrp · 10/07/2021 18:14

@livingwithbees I have measured above the 98th percentile for all of my measurements since 28 weeks so was sent for a GTT which was negative but then last week at my 34 week appointment I was sent for a growth scan and they think the baby is measuring at 5lb 9oz already 😬😬

biscuitcat · 10/07/2021 18:30

@Inmypjsagain I actually asked that question, about bringing formula to hospital! She said that if you're planning on breastfeeding then no need as the hospital will have a supply for if it isn't working/there's a reason you can't, but if you're planning on formula feeding then you should bring your own, so I'm not bringing any with. Might ask the midwife too just in case.

PurplePansy05 · 10/07/2021 18:39

We were told the same at the NCT course too @biscuitcat xx

livingwithbees · 10/07/2021 18:53

@lucyrp blimey! Definitely hope you go early in that case!

RandomCatGenerator · 10/07/2021 19:59

Thanks for the info on Peanut - I have downloaded if and am steeling myself to have a go.

How is mood for people in third trimester, can I ask? I feel so so awfully low. Pregnancy mood swings are really doing a number on me.

Really up and down but it’s a lot to do with the fact that we are mid mortgage application (survey and offer hopefully next week, cross your fingers!!) with a move date pencilled in for the week after my due date.
Magik01 · 10/07/2021 20:25

Hi everyone. I haven’t posted in a whole thread I think! I have been reading but been a bit up and down so not wanted to write anything down.

I’ve got a c section booked in for the 6th august for 39 weeks so feeling better now that’s sorted! Had a nightmare of a day though, had a sofa delivered by dfs after a two month wait and it wouldn’t fit through the door! Sad so we have had to send it back, and are awaiting a call to see what’s next! Nightmare!

Daffodil21 · 10/07/2021 20:34

@Magik01 oh no!! What a nightmare! Hope you get it sorted soon

OP posts:
Magik01 · 10/07/2021 20:38

@Daffodil21 I know! The annoying thing is I looked online and there is an optional extra for £50 for removable arms which we would have 100% paid if we were told about it. Really needed the sofa for when the baby is here so to say I’m annoyed is an understatement. 😤

lucyrp · 10/07/2021 20:56

Just realised I've been doing "labour inducing" things tonight by accident 🤣 been drinking pineapple juice and bouncing/dancing on my birthing ball to music in the living room 🙈

Daffodil21 · 10/07/2021 21:02

@Magik01 fingers crossed dfs will sort it without a fuss...

@lucyrp oh no! Let's hope not..! I've been convincing myself I have early signs of labour today 😂 probably being ridiculous but glad mum is staying from tomorrow juuuuust in case!
