Kanga- anti D at 28 weeks now. My midwife (well actually her student) made a mistake when she said it was 24. I had one after a bleed at 18 weeks anyway.

Everyone who was on about my huge bump- I know, its weird isn't it? I never would have expected to be so big by 6 months. Glad everyone is though because I thought I was a freak of nature.

sweetbean - congratulations on your little girl - girls are really lovely in my experience! I wouldn't worry too much about the 4d scan spoiling the birth moment. I don't think anything can take away from that moment - it's totally amazing and a real baby is a world away from a scan pic.

i'm so desperate to have our scan now. still got two whole weeks to wait. grrr. and double grr at dh, who won't let me find out the sex.

anti-d is an injection given to rhesus negative mothers, before they know the blood type of the baby. Given at 28 weeks and then after birth

4d scans are worth the money, we had one the last pregnancy, but can't decide if we want one this time, we get extra scans anyway. It is nice to see the baby, but they don't look the same once born. We have one booked for the beginning of feb, when I will be 26 weeks, but could always cancel. Need to decide.

I could have had the 4d scan in south africa when I was there last month for £40, but I was 19 week when I left so was to early.

Anti-D isn't always given after birth and it's given twice in the pregnancy, not just at 28 weeks.

It is given at 28 and 34 weeks if the mother is to be found as Rh neg. If the father was Rh neg too then it wouldnt be needed but as the mothers word cannot be taken for nd they dont test the men, it is recommended they have it anyway. It is to protect future pregnancies as if the baby, when born is Rh Pos then babys blood crosses over into the mothers and the mothers blood sees it as foreign and tries to destroy....therefore leading to miscarriages etc in future pregnancies. As my daughter was also born Rh Neg, I didnt have to have the injection after her birth as her blood was the same but i'm back to having it this pregnancy incase this baby is Rh Pos and I want more babies.

Ok am really confused !!!!!

I'm Rh Neg and my DH is Rh Pos but i have NEVER had an Anti d injection !!!!!!!!! i wasn't offer one in my first pregnancy and didn't need one after the birth because my DD was Rh neg also but im slightly concerned that i have never been offer an injection and no one has offered on this pregnancy either WTF is going on ?????? should i march down to the doctors and demand an explanation !!!!

Sweetbean- Yeah you need to have it if you're neg and DH is pos. You best ask at the doctors, but it's not too late.

Make sure they give you it at 28 and 34 weeks, after the birth if the baby's Rh Pos and after any bleeds when you're pregnant. Don't panic though, just make sure they give you it.

Hi everyone, and sorry for the long silence ? I just can?t keep up with this thread!

Well we finally had our scan and it?s a boy. DP is over the moon, we just have to agree on a name now?. Everything was good on the scan, he?s a bit bigger than average, but DP is 6?3 so to be expected ? hope it?s length and not width as I?m only 5?! ouch!!

I?m in the same boat as you missvicki ? I got weighed at the doctors this morning and even though he?s a big baby I?m not putting on weight, but they didn?t seem too bothered at this stage as everyone carries differently. I do seem to have gone up 2 dress sizes in maternity clothes though?!

This is from ages back but Pregnabrain ? what did you decide about antibiotics and the birth? My consultant wants to put me on antibiotics for the birth as I have no spleen, and I agreed thinking it would be a course of tablets - didn?t think that would mean being hooked up to a machine?

I saw a few comments about water births too ? did anyone decide what sort of birth they want? My hospital is keen on water births, they have a few pools, but dp would prefer something more traditional in case anything goes wrong, so am not really sure what to go for at the moment.

Hope you had a good birthday londonirish ? I?m 30 next weekend too, and also couldn?t face being the only sober one at a party, so dp and I are going away for the weekend ? only 7 days to go, can?t wait.

Just seen all the anti d stuff - I?m having an anti d as well and my hospital only does it at 28 weeks ? but I get double the amount in one hit, I guess it varies according to your area. I found an article on it which may explain a bit more ? looks like the risk is really small and they?re just being cautious so I wouldn?t worry sweatbean, just speak to your midwife.

I've added mine on ... 2 girls!

I was SO adamant I didn't want to know, even managed to convince DH. But was too curious on the day so we asked the sonographer only to tell us if she was as sure as she could be. She gave the same proviso - 'can't guarantee it' - but she looked pretty sure to me. Very happy we asked now.

Pregnabrain - don't be too impressed by the normal jeans, I had to buy those ones post pregnancy last time as I couldn't get my old ones on so that's the only reason I can get them on still!

Well we now have new kitchen fitted, just needs walls painting and new floor but so nice not to be living out of boxes!

Hope the work plan goes ok JBR- must be sad having to give up the teaching side, but its in everyone's best interests for now (especially yours!) hope you feel better now that pressure is off.
I'm cross we actually will have to buy something exensive for bump- a car seat.We've carefully kept DDs old one, but changed cars (needed something bigger than my old Punto for family trips anywhere!) and our bloomin huge volvo (even older than the punto ) has seatbelts that are too short. All my pals babies are either still in their car seats or out of that style by a good year- and only the gracco style seem to fit. they're the one's that the seat just clicks into the base without any seatbelt weaving at all- have to say that will be much easier than our old one and dealing with toddler too, but couldn't have justified the expense just for easier life...Anyway, its not a major worry now we know something WILL fit, just a bit of grrrr at spending money when we already have one!
Right, DD is singing so time to get her up!

Mumofk - you can buy seatbelt extensions that you just attach yourself, we had to get one for dh's car when we had dd as we discovered the seat belt was long enough in my car but not in his. Don't know if it reduces the strength of the belt but this is what we did.

I'm having anti-D at 28 / 34 weeks this time, but only had it after the birth last time. I think the policy varies from place to place. Sweetbean - ask your midwife about it.

Yellowflower - i think i'm resigned to having the antibiotics during labour. I know for sure that for group b strep it's IV antibiotics, not tablets. But maybe different for your spleen thing? Best to ask your doctor.

Even if it is IV, it doesn't restrict you too much. They can do them for home births, for example. And it's not for long either. Best to ask them for details though, as i'm a bit hazy!

Second timers (or more) - are you / did you buy a new cot mattress for the second? I can't bear to throw out dd's. It's a lovely sprung mattress and it cost £60.

Pregnabrain- we're using the same moses basket and cot mattress, somehow I think I wouldn't have second hand ones, but I know how few times DD was sick, so I'm happy they're clean enough. I did read somewhere about someone saving a mattress to use again, only to find mouldy vomit in it smelling when she got it out again! Our moses basket has a musty smell- think its from the damp cellar it was kept in for a while- and if the smell doesn't go with the different things I'm trying we'll have to get another basket (this basket has done about 7 kids that I know of, so it owes noone anything!) but I'm hoping it can be rescued!.
Good luck with the IV antibiotics, I don't know you could have them at home as well, thats great!
