SL - Love your new name

It was no joke that with DD I could have gone on a murdering rampage - everybody was out to deliberately wind me up (so I thought) and I hated anyone talking to me about anything to do with pregnancy. Amazing I have any friends left after that! Still, most of them were pregnant with girls at the time too, so we vented our frustrations together. I even went through one sleepless night trying to work out the best way of throttling someone - pregnancy did weird things to me

I'd just like to say that I'm a much nicer person this time around though and am acting much more like the church pastors wife I am!

Hi all.

For everyone who was on about weight- I've gone from a ten (I was getting a little porky and going into some 12s b4 I was pregnant) to pretty much a 16. I must have put on a lot of stone (having just lost 5 before getting pregnant) and DP has never commented on this but now I'm looking huge and I'm wondering if it's too much. I've eaten fruit and veg but LOADS of crap too. I've craved carbs and sugar and salt and all things naughty and really craved wheat and dairy in masses(which I'm intollerant of- mostly cereal with ice cold milk. I even want it now I've mentioned it.

The baby has been lodging his feet under my ribs and DP and mum have been able to feel his little feet poking out the top of my tummy.. is that normal for 23+2? My bump seems to be getting massive and it's soo tight and full to the max with baby- who was kicking ALL the time but now even feels like his space is limited. I feel like I should be 7 or 8 months pregnant!!

On top of everything I keep getting REALLY bad period pain.

Please can someone tell me if all this is normal?

I'm one of those jolly pregnant women and always stroking bump but these things are secretly niggling away at me. I see midwife on Thursday for anti D so can ask a few things then.

Also, there's a sign up in antenatal clinic saying you're only allowed ONE birth partner now but I want DP and mum... can I have them both?

Sorry to whinge so much.

Mumblesmummy · 15/01/2008 14:28

Just to add, when I said a 16, I mean a 16 in maternity clothes.

bobsmum · 15/01/2008 14:37

mumblesmummy - your size and weight gain sounds completely normal to me My appetite goes haywire when I'm pg -I'm eating so much crap atm! But I'm not worried too much about weight gain - it's just one of those things. Think 9 months to put it on, 9 months to take it off (ok ok so maybe 5 years is more realistic )

Just wait til you breastfeed - i've never known hunger and thirst like it - v weird!

I'm usually a 14 and I'm still a 14 in maternity stuff, but if I was to fit into regular clothes I would be an 18 or a 20. But there's no point in stressing about that because I'm not an 18 - I'm a pregnant 14.

I've been hunting for clothes that show off my bump rather than tent like things and it makes a huge difference.

I can go one day with people's jaws hitting the floor at how "enormous" I am and then the next have several comments on my "neat" bump.

And remember you'll just get bigger - so keep stroking that bump! I'll have to dig out some photos of me on holiday at 32 weeks with ds - now that was scary

I get pains under my bump a lot, the growth is so rapid that stretching pains are inevitable. not fun though.

I got some massive braxton hicks last night while watching telly. tHey left me breathless and I got dh to feel my utterly rock hard bump and he jumped and said "flippin' eck...solid as a rock" (cue 80s karaoke )

bobsmum · 15/01/2008 14:42

x posted - just saw the next bit about clothes sizes. I still wouldn't worry - I do think it depends on the make, just like any other clothes shop. I've inherited some designer maternity stuff and I'm an XL in that (and pants and tights ). My Dorothy Perkins stuff ranges from a 12 to 18. I'm large in Topshop, but medium in H&M

So I"m just buying what suits me and forgetting about the rest Dh says I'm dressing better pregnant than I ever did not pregnant. I definitely look better pg, but this is the last baby so I'd better make the most of it

Mitchell81 · 15/01/2008 14:50

mumblesmummy, r u getting your anti-d early, i am getting mine at 28 weeks.
Is anyone on Facebook?

Mumblesmummy · 15/01/2008 14:51

Hi Bobsmum- Thank you soooooooooo much for saying I'm normal. Everyone just focuses on the fact I'm massive round here at the moment and say 'oh my god' so it's so good to know someone is similar to me!!! I've started with the bump showing clothes too as I was fed up of being swamped and looking obese!
Glad the pains are normal too. They feel weird and stress me something chronic so good to know they should be happening. I suppose how can you grow a baby without having pains.

Blobsmummy- I'm on the edge too. I'm all lovely and having giggle fits one minute, the next I've dug my nails into the table because I can hear pots clanging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrr.

bobsmum · 15/01/2008 15:07

Mumblesmummy - have updated profile with preggy pictures of me with ds at 31/32 weeks.

When I was looking them out I was sure I would be shocked at how massive I was - I remember feeling massive, but actually I don't think I look that huge looking back! It's all about perceptions. We totally distort ourselves in our heads!!

missvicki · 15/01/2008 15:22

Hi Guys,

Sorry not posted in here for a while, have to be honest that if your offline even a couple of days it's quite hard to catch the thread of conversation!!

But a quick post to say I'm now 24+5, feeling baby very well and starting to show. All scans have been perfect. Still being watched very closely by consultant due to Having a high BMI, but on the plus side (and i'm gonna make some of you sick with jelasousy now) i'm still not putting any extra weight on just seem to be swapping fat for baby!!! Although have to admit morning sickness has helped there as i'm still getting it on odd days!

Although one thing i did want to ask you girls does anyone just know what sex they are having? witout being told on the scan. Mothers intution sort of thing, it's just before i was preganant i really wanted a little girl but noe i'm pregnant i'm certain it's a boy, i'm drawn to boy things and boy names. Annoying thing is Dp won't let me find the sex out even though we've still got two more sizing scans to go to. I'm really curious to know if anyone else has had this and was right?

Mumblesmummy · 15/01/2008 15:39

Aww you don't look big at all at 32 weeks! You look lovely. I don't know if it's my whopping knockers (38FF now) and porky arms that are making me look/feel worse. Or maybe I'm like you were and think I'm huger than I am. I hope I can look back on photos and think awww I wasn't so big lol. Your kids are beautiful by the way!!

MissVicki- I thought for ages I was having a girl, then three weeks before my 21 week scan, I thought, it's a boy in there, I was totally convinced and it was a boy.

bobsmum · 15/01/2008 16:03

Missvicki - nice to see you again

MM - treat yourself to some new bras from somewhere like Bravissimo or Figleaves - I have 3 new yummy ones in 34G and I feel loads better.

JackBlackRoady · 15/01/2008 16:54

hayley - 'whopping knockers' pmsl!

mitchell81, i am on Facebook, posted on the Mumsnet group yesterday in the section 'whats your mumsnet name?'

i'm feeling very chilled at the moment, eating banana and chocolate cake with DS while he does his homework - i did a lot of work today! xxx

jacobandlysetteandabump · 15/01/2008 17:03

hi everyone,

jsut a short one as my in laws are still here and if i start on about my FIL you'll never get me off the subject - lets just say murderous thoughts are the norm.....

i've been weighing myself regularly and was 72kg before pg, which went up to 77 at booking in early september, then 79 just before christmas. today i weighed myself at the docs and i was 78. but put it this way, i put on 5 stone (from a start of 10 st) last time around so i'm not too displeased this time around, especially since it went on at the start which for me is pretty normal and has been quite stable since.

i've totally forgotten what else i was going to say so i'm going to go now! need to sort out a 4d scan though.

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/01/2008 18:46

Hi everyone

I have put on 11kg at 21 wks!!! Yeah that's 1.7 stone or 24lbs. Do I win?

I am having twins tho so actually I'm cheating. I didn't think I looked much bigger but then I tried on some size 14 pregnancy trousers in New Look and couldn't even squeeze a thigh in (usually I'm 10-12). The growing bump on the front was visually balancing the one on the rear end, ha ha! Or not!!

Hormones also all up wall, two months of bliss and great sex drive seem to have transformed into the moodiness that I had at the start. Being back at work probably!

Had my 20-week scan last week - two girls!! Am over the moon. I had an inkling it might be actually, though everyone was saying 'looks like boys' cos bump sticks out front like a zeppelin.

Did anyone else get worried about not feeling much yet? I was worried something was wrong before my scan - just getting the occasional tickle. But they're fine, just lazy like their mother. Bump growing at a cracking pace tho. Have taken photos every week, someday I might even figure out how to post them up...

Really enjoying it.

mumofk · 15/01/2008 19:47

Hi all, just like to say I completely get the murderous thoughts- I could KILL the people who work in the office at work who keep being nice. I'm not feeling 'nice', I don't want people to be 'nice' and 'sympathetic' I just want someone I can rant at and preferably punch- and they're not being horrible, they really are being nice and sympathetic. I'm soooo tired and grumpy- had most of last week off sick, so really hoped this week would be better. Instead, I've negotiated with my manager about taking annual leave by the hour, starting with an hour today so I could leave early. Tomorrow I can have the pm off ( not so great as DD and DH at home on Wednesdays) but as I'm working Sunday (nice, easy morning without phone ringing) I can have Thrusday off too (busy, horrible day with f*cking phone ringing). So, feeling i can put off getting a sick note for a bit longer, but really HAD ENOUGH of work.
BTW, I don't often swear, I can put that down to hormones too!
Weight gain- yup, been doing that, not got too scared by it so not aware of how much I've put on. I am most comfortable in size 12 mat jeans when I was a 16 pre-preg- go figure!
Sorry I'll continue to take bad mood out on DH and seriously consider sainsbury's for hormonal emergency chocolate and icecream....
Oh, I've found my heartburn is related to being knackered- last week when off work, no problems, today (after missing my nap 2 days running) it kicked off again. Just something else to get you when your down.
Real sympathies for all you coping with stressful lives, unhelpful families and up-duff horrible side-effects. I'm sure if pregnancy was a drug it wouldn't get approved for use!!
grrrrr. i'm in need of a punchbag but would probably get more cross at being too knackered to beat the hell out of it.
Sorry, long rant.

jacobandlysetteandabump · 15/01/2008 20:34

mumofk if you want someone to be horrible to you can have my FIL. i'll happily send himyour way as i'm so fed up of him acting like a child in our house. today topped it all off with him putting his toast plate o nthe counter over the dishwasher , directly on top of the dishwasher and when i asked if he was finished he jsut grunted "yes", so i said "shall i put your plate in the dishwasher then" he replied "if you want" i felt like saying "well if i don't i'll leave it for your wife to do in exactly the same inconsiderate selfish childish manner you are then shall i?" this is just the culmination in his laziness and childishness. indeed these were the first words he ahs uttered to me in approx 4 days - even to the point of seeing me carrying ds this morning and him saying morning to my ds and not me

it's horrible to say as they live in nz and dh and ds see them once a year o naverage but i'll be so glad when they (read he) go on thursday evening. at least when MIl comes back to help with ds2's birth FIL isn't coming - thank god for small mercies.

anyway must away hope everyone else good

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/01/2008 22:23

mumofk - know how you feel! Think mine will pop out fluent in swearing ha ha ha

Mumsnet is a good place to rant and let off steam, go for it!

You can also have my FIL

pregnabrain · 15/01/2008 22:30

hello

I can't keep up with the pace on here!

Thanks v much for all the constipation remedies - am trying to up my water intake but have dodgy pelvic floor so always a bit nervous about drinking loads.

Sorry to hear that some of you are going through such stressful things at the moment, especially those facing unsympathetic employers . I get so annoyed when i hear about pregnant women who are treated badly at work. We're performing a duty to society, for goodness sake!! Do they want us to stop having babies altogether?? I'm very lucky with my employer. They have been amazing from start to finish with my pregnancies and with flexible working conditions. I am eternally grateful.

LOL at piples (although I'm not laughing too much as i think i'm getting them too ).

Have been feeling far less murderous this time than in last preg. Perhaps this is another tick in the "I think I'm having a boy" box. Mind you, last time I KNEW I was having a boy - nearly fell off the hospital bed in shock when the midwife told us we had a little girl (don't trust your intuition Miss Vicki ).

Anyway, will stop rambling now. Apologies for treating this place like a diary!

sweetbean · 16/01/2008 08:36

Hello Ladies

I'm so Excited i can hardly write i had my scan and everything its great with the baby and they think its a ....................GIRL
I can't believe it as i was SURE it was a boy this time round !!!!!!!!!

However i would love some advise from ladies who are having girls.

The scan lady was really nice and spent ages finding all the bits and pieces that she needed to tick of her list, and i told her at the beginning that i would like to know what sex it was so at the end she had a really good look and said "Well i can't see any boy bits there so my money would be on a girl" But when i pressed her a bit more(in total shock ) she said but we can never guarantee it and or be sure that its a girl the bit could just be hidden !

So what im asking is did you all get yes its defo a girl or did you get tentative yeses as well ???

With regards to preg cloths i was a 14/16 jean before and am a 12 in preg cloths and 16/18 top and fit nicely into 16 preg tops so its all wired to me !!

Hi pazz nice to her from you xx

£145 for a 4D scan and sexing of baby is that good or am i crazy oh and how can i possibly get my DH to agree when i know that he will think its a waste of money !!!!!

sweetbean · 16/01/2008 10:10

OMG OMG

I JUST BOOKED IT ANYWAY !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT AM I THINKING !!!!!!!!!

coby · 16/01/2008 10:19

sweetbean - . I have two DDs both sexes determined at 20week scan. With DD1 the sonographer was absolutely sure - she could see the bits in question easily and certainly no boy bits - just two lines which is apparently all you can hope to see usually with a girl (1001 sonographers will decend upon thread and now tell me I'm wrong..) With DD2 all she said was, well can't see anything there, but she didn't have such a clear view - I knew DD2 was a girl anyway. With current nugget...um....was obviously a boy even at 12 week scan (although I was in denial at first, it was very clear!)

Hello to everyone else. Sorry no time to read the other recent posts right now. Hope all is well and kicking

macaco · 16/01/2008 10:40

Hi everyone...

re maternity clothes I've got mostly "baggy hide the bump" clothes rather than tighter ones and my bump isn't really very big at all. I don't think most people can tell whether I'm getting a pot belly or pregnant. But when i put on my clingier stuff it's very clear so I think comments like..."ooh you're huge" at this stage really depend Soooo much on what you're wearing.

I was wearing a clingy jumper yesterday and mentioned something about mat leave to someone who didn't know I was pregnant and she seemed really surprised I was preggers. Which made me worry...do you really think I have this belly without being pregnant and that I'd be showing it off in this clingy jumper
Obviously as things go on it becomes more obvious, I don't suppose I'll be fooling many by this time next month! I'll be starting to worry I'm too small next. Only Still only 26 weeks and they say you get really big towards the end.

coby · 16/01/2008 11:09

macaco - pmsl about the jumper thoughts . I had a similar experience at the weekend. I have grown out of my really warm coat so went into local warm coat shop to get a new one. When I made the purchase I asked the lady to put my old coat in the bag and let me have the new one now.

She said, 'oh you must like these coats then to have bought two'. I retorted 'no, this is a size 18 whereas my old one I bought back in the summer was a 12 - I need a few sizes bigger now'. She said, 'oh dear, really? Well you'll probably lose some weight now christmas is over, there are lots of ads on the TV for slim clubs so you can't be the only one, you probably just need some excercise !'

FGS! I was standing there in what were obviously maternity dungarees with huge tummy sticking out looking very much pregnant (I was having a wash day OK!).

grrrrr...
