just stumbled accross this site and think its fab. I am due on 30th may and am finding all the advice and comments both useful and amusing....thanks. also looking for good antenatal classes in tower hamlets so if anyone knows please share.

Mitchell81 · 03/01/2008 16:34

santaspregnantlittlehelper, Can't believe you could have your lo in feb.

Sweetbean: we went to Durban, Bloemfontein(Family commitments) and Johannesburg

Mitchell81 · 03/01/2008 16:34

Sorry and welcome Erie

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 03/01/2008 17:45

welcome erie - best thing may be to look on nct website - if you google you can find it. or your hospital may do some - where are you having the lo?

walkingwomb · 03/01/2008 19:06

santaspregnantlittlehelper!!!! I have been cleaning like a demon and usually i use touchy feely ecover stuff, but as our new pad is so minging I was using stuff with bleach in it. Is bleach ok? I am in a panic.

Also - i got some maternity jeans today from seraphine. I have been ignoring the pregnancy clothes issue but DH insisted I get at least one pair of casual trousers. They were a bit more pricey than I woudl like, but they are ssssssssssoooooooooo fab. really flattering and make me feel a lot less frumpy. I tried some on in topshop that looked like crap, so I am really pleased! If anyone is interested these are them

mumofk · 03/01/2008 19:10

JBR- Im knackered too- weekends I've booked 2 hour nap slots with DH- for me, not DD! I nap at lunch time on work days, and when I get in (DH on DD duty again, and cooking tea and doing her bedtime). TBH, if I feel like this again next week I'm going to GPs in hope of sick note. Work days I have no home life, just work, eat sleep (and MN on good days!), and non-wrk days I'm exhuasted or spend afternoon in bed. I've tried a bit more exercise and fresh air, but I just feel ill and more exhuasted ( this with usually 9 hrs at night). Sleep really helps, so if I nap I can cope with DD- if no nap we both end up in tears.
I've brought my mat leave date earlier too, so only 7 full weeks left to work (have 1 weeks holiday, so Mat leave starts beg march).
Definately not having an energy rush, but apart from knackered don't feel permanently ill, like i did with DD.
Right, had my xmas days holiday off work today, so better go do my share of bedtime!
Welcome to new people, hope everyone's ok today.
Mumofk

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 04/01/2008 09:37

WW don't worry i was being a bit sarcy really! probably best not to breath too much as it might make you feel a bit sicky but it's ok sooooo sorry for panicking you though.

sam (the bump) is kicking like mad at the moment, normally i nthe middle of the night. and i'm having the most horrible dreams at the moment so i wake up and can't get back to sleep. consequently i'm shattered during the day.

the ILs are being no help whatsoever now and I'm finding it really hard to "keep a civil tongue in my head" when it comes to FIL. completely irrationally i just want to slap him whenever he opens his mouth

hope everyone else all ok

Pregnabrain and WW- I'm getting kicks in the same place and my baby's a boy so maybe urs are boys too!! I can see my tummy moving in the bath (especially if the waters too hot). He's also taken to kicking me in the bladder a lot which makes me need to pee constantly!!

Coby- I don't think your buying is unreasonable, our tot has already got a wardrobe full of stuff and his own nursery!! He even has everything down to a moneybox I'm only 21+5 Our family and friends are just so excited they keep buying... as do we .

WW- hope your move goes well. We've just moved over xmas and it's the 5th time this year so we're fed up of it now. We're finally settled tho and we've decorated so it feels like home. Also, those are the exact jeans I was going to get but I ended up getting similar from New Look for £12!! Do you have a New Look? Check it out for maternity clothes coz they have some really good stuff.

Welcome to babylove and erie.

SantasPLH- ILs see pregnancy as a time to drive you CRAZY. It's on purpose, I'm sure.

Hope everyone's super excited now we're passed the half way mark- altho it's only just occured to me that pregnancy is 10 months long in weeks

Erie · 04/01/2008 11:57

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone. Struggling slightly with some of the abreviations but getting to grips slowly. Registered on NCT website and will talk to midwife at next appointment (thanks SLH). went swimming last night and felt weightless for first time in a long time...wonderful. waking up in middle of night hungry and can't go back asleep. no definate movements yet, only slight rumbling...can't wait to feel him/her. I got mat. jeans in topshop but they are v long and slip down. got fab mat. trousers in m&s...£15...got 3 pairs and live in them.
V restless at work....roll on summer!

iarel · 04/01/2008 17:48

try dorothy perkins as well. picked up some brill mat bootcut jeans for £12. H&M is a bit more expensive, but does a nice range. had to get some this time as DH has forbidden me raiding his wardrobe. he looked like he suffered from impressive man boobs after i stretched all his t-shirts
santasplh- this is the best time to let off some steam, blame it on your surging hormones!
my mum is threatening to come over from sa for the birth. means well, but tried to feed DS baby rice at 1 month old and took over in the nicest possible way. any ideas?

Mitchell81 · 04/01/2008 18:27

Iarel: Try suggesting that you will need more help when the baby is a little bigger and not in the first few weeks when all they do is eat, sleep and dirty nappies. R u from SA?

JackBlackRoady · 04/01/2008 18:55

hello everyone, hope you are all having a relaxing evening!
Iarel - I know the feeling, my mum is so lovely but drives me nuts - she is recovering from a brain op and can't speak at the moment which means our conversations are even more frustrating but she is on the mend
welcome erie!
mumofk - maybe we are due the energy rush when we get to the 3rd trimester... and I wanted to ask you, how often are scans not right when it comes to the sex? My sonographer seems really experienced (had 3 scans now!) and she said girl straight away but I am still thinking 'what if?'
anyway, speak to you all soon
JBR xxx

mumofk · 04/01/2008 19:04

JBR- about sex of baby with scans- I would take heart if said immediately with confidence that they;ve seen something clearly to give that impression. TBH, in all my years of scanning ( well, it feels like forever!) I've only had 1 person tell me straight you got it right! It was a very excited proud new Dad who saw me outside the labour ward. Quite a few people say last time around we got it right or wrong, but I don't know any statistics. Its not something we record where I work, so no audit trail.
DId hear I got one of triplets wrong, but my excuse then was I was stressed- Mum came for scan large for dates at 16 weeks, and I found 3!!! And she was a couple of weeks further on than she thought, so I expected a quick dating scan and ended up doing anatomy scan for 1.5 hrs- 2 months after qualifying!!!! I was in shock, but imagine what the poor mum was going through!
I'll keep fingers xed for 3rd trimester energy- my hopes are pinned on finishing work and feeling better :-)
7 weeks to go!!!
Sorry.

iarel · 04/01/2008 19:14

cape town, i moved over here 10 years ago, when i met DH. i haven't been there for ages, but we're planning a trip in october to catch up with everyone as DS is at the age where he asks a lot of questions about my family and where i grew up! have you been over there?

Mitchell81 · 04/01/2008 19:18

Iarel, Also from Cape town, been living in Scotland since 2000. Just got back from a holiday last week.

iarel · 04/01/2008 19:22

JBR- all the best with your mum. my sonographer said girl as well and i'm keeping fingers crossed, but bought a few white items , like suggested, just in case she turns into he!

pregnabrain · 04/01/2008 22:23

Hello all

macaco and mumofk - spotted you on the hypnobirthing thread i started - thanks for your thoughts. I think i will look into a course as so many have responded to say it's worth the money.

Anyone know of a good hypnobirthing instructor in SE London?

Welcome to everyone who's just joining. Erie - I didn't realise M&S did maternity stuff. Is it in all their shops? Have just had a bit of a splurge in Gap. Not maternity stuff especially, but they've got loads of great smocky things that will fit a bump under (at least for a while).

JBR - glad to hear your mum's recovering.

Am v jealous of all of you who will be stopping work soon. My heart's really not in it any more. Can't wait to go, but it's not till the end of April.

Ina May's got me totally fired up about the birth - i can't WAIT now!!!

JackBlackRoady · 05/01/2008 08:55

hello again all, thank you for the kind words about my mum
thank you mumofk - she said it so quickly and definitely i am trusting her, but like you say iarel, i will have white and cream stuff too!
DH has something planned for today, i am wondering what to expect... lunch with him and DS somewhere nice or a stressful drive to go look at stupid cars??? bless him we will see what happens!
have a lovely weekend everyone
JBR xxx

macaco · 05/01/2008 11:55

Hi everyone and welcome to new people

Pregnabrain, I can't go to a hypnobirthing course (wish I could) as I'm in Spain but I've got the Mongan book and Cd and when I get some free time I'm going to give it a go. Here in Spain births can be quite medicalised and there's no pain relief apart from epidural. No gas and air. I'm not ruling out an epidural by any means but not hugely keen either for various reasons so I thought perhaps hypnobirthing would help me at least keep calm.

I've done a couple of sessions of general hypnotherapy before and really got on well with it and my mum's well into it and has given me a little self hypnosis book.

Also DH is AWFUL about blood, hospital, needles and will probably pass out and puke in the delivery suite but being out here I don't feel I can do my first birth alone so I'm forcing him to be present. Hoping hypnobirthing will help the whole process to be calmer and so not freak him out too much either.

Coolmama · 05/01/2008 13:55

Macaco - DH is also not really fab with the whole blood thing however he was an absolute star in the delivery room - the bit he had a problem with was watching the epidural so I dutifully sent him off to find me some grapes and magazines! - it was all I could think of at the time

babylove21 · 05/01/2008 18:41

thank you everyone, you are such a friendly bunch.
Mumofk i did laugh when reading your story about the triplet scan, it's quite unusual for triplets isnt it ( i mean without IVF etc)?

And those maternity jeans from Saphire, 60 pounds!! phew they would have to last me 10 years at that price [ shock].

Thanks for mentioning M&S and new look, i didnt know they also did maternity clothing.

now im actually starting to look pregnant and not just pleasantly plump im also starting to ache. As an older (35) mum with a 17 year age gap from my last i'm starting to worry i'm not fit enough to give birth [ hmm]
Any ideas what i can do to get into shape.
I'm slim normally, pre pregnancy weight 7st10. i'm just feeling totally un fit.is anyone else doing excersize ?

IndigoBlue · 05/01/2008 21:12

Hi, there have been loads of posts in the last couple of days - it's hard to keep up! Welcome to the newcomers!

mrs stresshead - I think it was you asking about the £65 scan - I had another look at the description and realised it only says they do some of the scan in 3d if the baby is in the right place so maybe most of it is done in 2d so not as good as I thought. It's Inner Vision in Warrington.

My bump is starting to get a lot bigger now, I'm feeling the best I've felt so far in this pregnancy so just got to try and enjoy it before I get too huge and worn out. Kitchen is being ripped out in next couple of weeks so I may not feel so great then when I'm having to wash up in the bath etc while they are fitting the new one!

mumofk · 05/01/2008 21:26

Babylove- Exercise. I've heard of it.... but not in a real, getting off the sofa type thing
Actually, keep intending to do brisk walk daily, even weekly, but that means waiting for DD to got to sleep, DH to be in and listening for DD, and me actually feeling like moving. Not happened in the last few months.
I actually try to go to yoga and do a bit at home (thats usually saved for the 4 am , can't sleep coz I went to bed at 8pm after 2 hr nap in afternoon), but my pg yoga class is Thursday evening- I'm usually asleep or too tired to drive there.
I know we're all meant to enjoy swimming but I can't face buying a cozzy.
And, my triplet story is about the best one I've got- nobody else I know has found triplets [preen]! But I really hope it doesn't happen again!!
Kanga- glad scan went ok and pics too!
macaco- hope giving DH hypnobirthing tasks to do will keep him distracted- he'll be busy enough at the top end to just see happy stuff at the bottom. The most unhelpful DH I met fainted when accompanied mum for 20 week scan- no blood, guts or anything! Can't imagine him being supporting role. And equally sure your partner will be fab on the day
Happy weekend all,
mumofk
