Someone said that to me the other day when they were wishing me a happy xmas, that it would be the last without a baby in the house and it really made me think, it had never occurred to me til then...how silly is that?
Been in Ikea buying things for the babies room. spent far too much money and now we need to build the furniture! But it was great fun, they have such cute little things. We're going for a jungle theme....jungle/ animal prints but not painting at all. Anyone else been indulging?

Merry Christmas everyone - it is 6.30am on Xmas morning and guess who has had leg cramps so bad I can't sleep.

Scan went well, everyone has everything they are supposed to have which is great. I'm worried about how big I'm going to be I'm in my 21st week and am about as big as I was at about 32/33 wks with ds. Not sure what I'm going to be able to wear soon.

We are having everyone to ours for Christmas - being summer (but not forcast to be very nice weather) we have a cold lunch and everyone brings a couple of dishes and when present opening is finished we just put everything on the table. We have potato salad (making it this morning) and pavlova to do. Also have to put whipped cream and strawberries on the pav.

We'll do ds's birthday this afo and have a birthday desert so he'll blow out some candles and get the rest of his b'day presents then we'll all have all the sweets. It works out quite nicely having a good break in between.

The kids are getting a bit spoilt this year, Santa has got them an outdoor slide, dh and I have got them both bikes plus they have quite a few cool bits and pieces in their super sized stockings.

We are really struggling with names, we have both started writing lists and not one matches . The other problem is that there might be one that you really like ie. I really like Mischa but can't find two other names that sort of go with that name if you get what I mean.

As for food, still loving fruit, ginger beer, toasted bagels with cream cheese, avocado and tomato with lots of salt and pepper.

My rule of thumb for food is if it has been cooked before it has to be super hot before I eat it again ie. prawns etc are fine in my mind if they are super hot. I'm breaking this rule a tiny bit with Xmas with the potato salad but I'm doing it at home so it will be super fresh. The thing I miss most while pregnant is sushi and soft poached eggs.

SLSH- I'm so knackered too, so when January starts I'm only working 8 weeks ( yippee!)only have a weeks holiday, so taking loads of mat leave first, but just sooo exhausted I need to look forward to not working sooner rather than later. Also, this is No 2 so only will have 3 child free working hour days to sleep/do what I want, so isn't the same as last time when I had soo much more time ( not that I appreciated it at the time!).

We're having the chicken pox wait in our house.Someone else mentioned not being immune, sorry, forget who and can't find the post now! I've known for 8 years I'm not immune, and have had odd scares over the years, but only offered the vaccine finally earlier this year but still bf.told to get back in touch when not bf- seeing as I was about 16 wks pregnant then, it just didn't work out!
Anyway, last week DD was in contact with a school-age child at childminders who developed chicken pox. DD then got temperature, snotty and miserable Sunday night- she has only been ill once before but on the whole we have NO experience of poorly DD! Anyway, knowing I'm not immune, we've spent xmas watching her like a hawk. She has eczema, so red rashes are usual but so far nothing has spread everywhere.
The extra joy is I got sent home from work! I can't avoid pg women at work, and Infection control would prefer if I'm the only one having this panic rather than spreading it to all my patients. As my first pt this morning is pg, and I'm awake at this time writing this, I'm not planning on going to work. DD is still sick, I'm coming down with it (whatever IT might be) and I'm not sure how big the chance of us incubating Chicken pox is - googling says we could have 21 days until we get it. Reading what it can do to the bump(only if under 20 weeks when you actually get sick) is scary, so I don't want to risk passing that on to anyone. Its also risky if you have it around giving birth, if you needed to know, but 20+ weeks is the best time to get it if you really have to!
I spoke to a friendly Obs consultant when I was having the major panic Monday, and our microbiology dept won't give you the antibodies before YOU get spots unless you've been in close contact with someone who has (nursing sick DD would be good enough, but said just meeting a sick child wasn't). We'll get to speak to drs/occupational health/infection control later today- I think DD taking Calpol for 5 days might make it worthwhile taking her to Drs just to be checked anyway.
Hope everyone has had happy christmases!
Finally, DH name idea, if its a boy, is Jeremy James Hamster- guess who likes top gear?!
Sorry, really can't be concise.

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and all have been spoilt as only we should! Both DS and I have had some lovely presents

Had our 20 week scan last Thurs - all ok, one healthy happy baby swimming about! Next scan is our 4d one on 12th Jan (24 weeks)

Still got this cough / cold thing - 3 weeks now, getting a little bored with it! DS still coughing too, poor boy. Actually must update stats, he is nearly 14 months now!

Chuffed - that cannot be easy, picking 3 names which you both like and that go together, don't envy you that one!

Hope everyone else ok

Mumblesmummy · 28/12/2007 12:04

Hi everyone.

Just had a FANTASTIC scan with a lovely sonographer. She said in all the time she's been doing scans, she's never seen a baby so wriggley and posey hehe. She scanned for AGES because she said she could scan it all day because it was so good and moving so much, so now DP believes me when i say it's kicking ALL the time It's a BOY, there's no mistaking it!!! Which we're really happy about, as that's secretly what we wanted. It's very healthy and measuring perfect. She said she got snap happy so she gave us LOADS of pictures for free!! We've even got a close one of his face with his little mouth open. he yawned for us. We've run out and bought loads of boy clothes in the sales this morning it's the best xmas prezzi ever.

So the chinese chart was right, and we've been calling him 'son' and saying 'he's kicking' for weeks so we were right too.

Quite a lot of people have commented on me looking 'about 7 months gone' which I'm suprised about because the baby's measuring right, and my bump is HUGE and solid so it's not squidgey fat or anything. Though the baby is at the high end of the growth chart she gave us. eek

So it's little Kaeden Michael for us. Hope everyone else has had a lovely xmas and great scans!!

podglet · 28/12/2007 20:38

Congratulations Mumblesmummy - boys are fab!

Just put some new Christmas pics on my profile if you are interested including a bump pic (but not as nice as Bobsmums is!)

hi there. can i join you. my EDD is the 10th of may. just had my 21wk scan and was told 90% girl. was absolutely ecstatic till SIL told me that errors are often made and not to get too excited. we already have a DS, but as DH is nearing 44 and we tried for 6 years, this is our last 1. either would be a blessing, but a girl would be the icing on the cake...feeling very confused at the moment!

Hi all,

Welcome iarel - my 4d scan is costing £99 and includes a 15 min DVD and sexing. They do sometimes get it wrong but it's very rare.

Thanks SantasLittleStressHead - yes, it is quite large isn't it?! We didn't have a 4d scan with DS because we didn't want to know the sex. We're not really doing it for the sexing this time either but for the experience. My scan is booked for 24+1 weeks so although it is on the early side, still hoping to see lots!

Hope everyone else is ok - have a fab time tonight (if you can stay awake!)

expectingababy · 31/12/2007 10:44

santaslittlestresshead
It's me who's expecting baby early. DD was a month early and I have a bicornuate uterus so this one will probably run out of space as well.
I am so jealous of you all, having your scans and finding out. I get my next one at 24 weeks. I really want to find out the sex, my dd is convinced she's having a sister, if it's a boy we need to prepare.
I am so sorry to hear your news cece, I hope you are okay.
Happy New Year to you all.

AussieSim · 31/12/2007 11:22

Hi guys
I had my scan today and it revealed a healthy growing GIRL and you could have knocked me over with a feather. With a track record like ours I really thought the odds were on another boy. I really feel I can relax a little now. I didn't have to ask for 4D as it seems to be standard these days. When I saw the little face I thought it looked like a girl. Good luck to the rest of you waiting for your next scan. I am kind of disappointed though now knowing that that is the last scan till I see our little girl in the flesh. Now the struggle over a name ...

Hi everyone

Hope you all had a good christmas, we are having a quiet night in for new year.

I'm going to have a 3d scan as well, I've found a place that does one for £65 for 15 min scan and you get 4 pics and they will tell you the sex so I think that's good value as I'm not bothered about getting a dvd. I know I was told it's a boy but it'd be nice to have it confirmed.

MumblesMummy & Aussiesim - glad your scans went well!

Mumofk - hope you're ok, any sign of your dd getting chicken pox yet? Must be worrying for you.

Iarel - welcome! we share the same due date! I agree with the others if you can afford a private sexing scan it would hopefully give you a more reliable answer of whether it's a girl.

Happy new year to you all!

coby · 31/12/2007 22:32

hello all - sorry, not had chance to read all the new posts yet. Just wanted to check in after 20 week scan today. Saw a consultant this time (no one sure why - not even the consultant himself ) but it was just as well really as we had a really good check over. 12 week scan was over in 2 mins .

Turns out we ARE having our first DS after 2 x DDs - we were told it was clearly a DS at 12 week scan but just didn't believe it. This time it was so very obvious - I have a zoomed-in photo to prove it .

He's fine but he has a problem with his left kidney so I'm going back at 28 weeks to have that checked on - apparently one of the receiving areas in it is enlarged - not really sure what that means right now. Just glad he's OK though, very paranoid this time round for some reason - suppose MC has that effect. Just wanted to see his little face.

Hapyy New year to all.

mumofk · 01/01/2008 09:03

Hi coby, just wanted to say full kidneys at 20 weeks are quite common,(posher name is dilated renal pelvis), and by 28 weeks most often everything looks normal - even the same measurement at 28 weeks is normal as the rest of baby has got bigger and thats stayed the same.
Even if they still look full, they'd just look again at 34 weeks, and, if still full then baby would have a scan at some point after birth (might be straight away, might be weeks after, protocol varies at different places).
Indigoblue- still no sign of chicken pox so I'm doing better at putting it to the back of my mind again. K had bad cold over xmas (which triggered our scare, she's never ill) so we've all had a bit of a bug. Occypational health are happy for me to be back at work, GP said reassuring things when DH took her, and I've been scanning early pregnancies most of yesterday so I better be alright!
You're 3D scan sounds a bargain! And 15 mins sounds a nice length of time- don't know about the rest of you but keeping still /doing as I'm told for 20-30 mins for anat scan got quite uncomfortable! My big boss keeps talking about offering 4D, but the probe (have a machine that can do it already) costs about £40 000, so hard to fit into budgets even if it would be a huge profit maker for the trust. I feel its exploiting vulnerable people, and its a lot of energy to zap baby with, but some of my colleagues make the point the scans are going to be offered somewhere, and better in trained hands than in someone really profit oriented (as opposed to us!).
SLS- big at upsy daisy name, DD loves that one and she only sees the adverts for In the night garden, not the actual programme!
Iarel- glad your scan went well, and hope sonographers got it right for you, fingers crossed.
Ladies with bump photos- v.impressive!Mine still feels a bit jelly like round the edges but keep prodding trying to guess which end is head- I think its the bigger lump and babies bum should still be quite small in comparison-I think. Mine definately lying cross-ways, very nice for bladder but of course immediately start wondering if it'll get the right way round at the right time!!
DH is pestering me to get a move on so better hurry up...
Has everyone got their free prescription cards? I've been nagging my midwife but they keep running out of forms- grrr. Now I've a script to get and putting it off until I can at least say application is in post. Hopefully going to chemist and sticking fat belly out will let me get it without paying- but probably not
Right, getting shouted at now, and sorry for the epic post again, esp when I only got online to say Happy New Year!

coby · 01/01/2008 16:41

MumofK - Thanks very much for the info. It does say dilated renal pelvis on my notes - just couldn't make out the writing. He did say it was one of the most common problems they see and tbh I felt there could have been a lot worse news. Anyway, very glad of your info - couldn't find much info elsewhere searching on MN last night and there was NO WAY I ws going to google it!

Glad you are pox free still, there seems to be a lot of it about. DH tells me he was in a lift with DD2 (not yet had pox) and a woman with her DS who was covered in pox spots. She told him how bad her DS was and how she was off to the doctors - made me wonder why she was in a shopping centre lift miles away from the nearest surgery or homes etc. My two go to nursery so it is only a metter of time for us (although DD2 had a small dose at 8 weeks while BF'd - she is likely to get it again). Luckily the rest of us are immune.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/01/2008 17:19

Hello all! Hope you all had lovely healthy Christmases and didn't give in to the mulled wine and brie like I did.

Still 2 weeks until my scan. I should have joined the June thread so as not to be so behind you all with news!

And I am going to have to dig out my maternity clothes as although trousers & skirts are OK all my tops are riding up and exposing my belly. Not a good look on the over-35s.

Very at those who have decided on names - we haven't even managed a proper long-list yet, let alone a short-list. BTW is Kaeden pronounced Kay-den or Kee-den? I've seen it mentioned a few times on MN but never in RL.

macaco · 01/01/2008 19:45

Hi Duchess, I'm no expert but I think it's kay den. I've had a nice relaxed Christmas and been enjoying eating what I like for once and have even been naughty and indulged in jamon serrano, but only a little (like parma ham). Got mw on thursday and then back to work next week. Been looking at prams and stuff and oh my god how confusing! Think I finally have an idea so after xmas going to experiment in shops with folding them up and how much they weigh.
How was everyone's New year, we stayed in and watched a video as didn't fancy going out 6 months pregnant and being the only sober one.

pregnabrain · 01/01/2008 21:07

Hello all

Happy new year - we all know it's going to be an exciting one! Hope you all had good Christmas. Ours was lovely - dd really got into it this year. She was SO excited when she discovered the milk and mince pie she'd left out for Father Christmas on the 24th had gone the next morning (she didn't spot dh's milk moustache, obv).

My best present was getting booted around in unmistakable fashion by the baby. I'm so excited now that I can feel it moving!! Roll on the end of May.

Congrats to everyone who's had their second scan - we're STILL waiting.

Duchess - I couldn't resist the booze or cheese either. I'm quite glad it's over now - couldn't handle much more conscience wrestling.

mumofk - hope you have stayed pox free. fingers crossed for you.

And welcome iarel...

asicsgirl · 01/01/2008 21:11

Hallo everybody!
Been ages since I last posted. Glad all the scans are going well. We had ours just before Xmas, another boy! Everything looks fine. I confess a little part of me is thinking 'I won't have a daughter then' (as I'm 40 and this will be the last one for us) but I'm also chuffed to bits about having another boy as DS has been such a laff. Even with his daddy-obsession...

all those who are only just putting on their maternity gear... I stayed quite trim the first time round (and was very proud of myself) but am bigger this time. Had a couple of moments digging out maternity skirts/ trousers that I loved last time, only to find they are distinctly snug around the hips...

Never mind. The littl'un starts kicking and wriggling around almost as soon as I sit down, and it's great - I get a weekly email from Babycentre about the pg and it said something about 'butterfly flutters' - ha! More like full-on kung fu fighting.

Still feeling quite sick and really tired. Just had blood tests and am slightly anaemic so hope the iron tablets will make me feel a bit bouncier! Midwife tomorrow...

Hi everyone, not posted on here for ages but just wanted to reassure Coby about the enlarged kidney.

My Ds2 had this and it was found out at the 20 week scan. I had to have regular scans to check up on it. It stayed enlarged and when he was born he was put on antibiotics (very mild dose) as a precautionary measure so that he wouldn't get a kidney infection. I was really worried about it all despite being reassured it was common. After about 9 months, the kidney was no longer dilated, it had sorted itself out and he could come off the antibiotics.

So what I am trying to say is please dont worry as they tend to sort themselves out and it is more common in boys than girls I think. The antibiotics were only a precaution, not a cure for a medical problem.

Try not to worry.
