hello mums - scan went really well. was great to see the body so well formed and heart beating strong. we were very chuffed. and a nice ultrasound operator. she asked if we wanted to know the sex and we had to take a big pause before saying 'no'! and then whenever she scanned near the bum we both were looking but trying not to look at the same time!
went to the gp today for a check up and gp tried to find heart beat and couldn't - (this is the same gp who told me i could take ANY vitamin tablets that the pharmacy sold)...
anyway i had to show her where the baby was sitting so she could find the beat. i was just thinking if i was a slightly less clued up person i would be freaked out that she hadn't found the heart as i might not have known where baby was sitting.
anyway.
glad everyone is well and that scans are good and sex revelations are pleasing.
i told my class at school (7/8 year olds) and they suggested we give the baby the name 3L because that is the classes name. i got the question - 'how are babies made?', to which i responded that the child would have to ask his parents!
merry christmas to everyone and if a small glass of very posh bubbly presents itself to you don't feel too guilty if you say yes!
p.s. i too am missing those soft smelly cheeses - yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

oh and names....

ivy-may
or
luca bailey

for now!

macaco · 21/12/2007 15:41

Hi all

Been reading up on prawns and it's a worry if you get them from a possibly contaminated source. I've been eating them all the weay through and there's no advice here about not eating them so I'm not going to worry about it. I think most cheese that you get these days is pasteurised anyway. If you followed all the advice you'd end up in a darkened room eating nothing for 9 months!

like the name Luca Mrs VO. I like it a lot for a boy but my dog's called Nuca and it would be too confusing! So far, still on Nicolás or Alejandro.

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 21/12/2007 16:44

macaco most soft cheese is not pasteurised - anything that has a soft rind on it or is blue is really a big no no - hence my quest for pasteurised camembert!!! must remember to go and get some before tuesday [frgin], but i am really over cautious with food anyway in pg as you can all have guessed with the no booze here

santaslittlestresshead glad your scan went well and congratulations on a girl!

mrsVO glad yours went well and well done for holding out and not knowing - I have nothing like that much will power!

must dash ds is on the prowl....

Fleurie76 · 21/12/2007 17:13

Hello from a newbie!
Just thought I would post and say Hi as I am now mercifully off work until January and have some time to do this sort of stuff!
I'm a first time Mum due on 23rd of May 08, living in Kent but working in central London.
Having next scan on Jan 16th and just need to know that it's a baby right now and won't be finding out what we're having!
Starting to feel a few movements which is fab but wondering where my bump is??! - anyone else just feeling a bit chunky as opposed to pregnant?
Anyway, I look forward to sharing news, tips and all the usual anxieties. Off to do some festive baking and generally pretending to be a domestic goddess (at least for the next four months!)
Happy Christmas all
X

gingerwench · 21/12/2007 19:22

After a couple of days thinking I might be feeling some movements (but wondering if it was just wishful thinking) I DEFINITELY felt some little moves yesterday. It was like tiny side to side twinges, not painful and not like any wind/digestion type or general ligament aches.... DH is desperate for the time that he can feel them too - think he is feeling slightly left out!

And two days ago I simply had to wear maternity trousers to work for the first time - the bump is definitely there now.

Also good news today I received a "low risk" for downs, edwards, spina bifida based on last week's blood tests.

Hope all is well with everyone. I've picked up a load of italian-deli stuff (at my mother's request) to share on Christmas Eve. I've been really cautious about food and I've not been drinking but I think I may make some exceptions for some superb parma ham, a little salami and a piece of buffallo mozzarella. I met a french lady who was horrified that in this country we don't get tests for immunity for toxoplasmosis etc (they do in France) which is why so many of them carry on with the soft cheeses and rare steaks. Lucky them!

mumofk · 21/12/2007 19:51

Hi all, doubt I'll get on again before xmas so just to say hi, hope things are going ok for most people and try to avoid those bugs out there!
I had my scan wed, and was a nervous wreck before it- just too scared of all the bad things I've seen over the years. The real pisser was doing 4 anat scans on other people before mine- so scared I'd find something wrong and not be able to be supportive, and just burst into tears! Fortunately everyone's scans were fine- just the couple I scannned last before my scan wanted to video it. We have BIG signs up everywhere saying recordings are not allowed by the trust, and TBH, noone has seriously asked before! So I was slightly freaked out- who would want a video of an NHS dark room, shaky video screen of baby and risk of getting huge fat me ( with bad hair) on video?!!! I politely said NO! And they were very put out, will probably complain. Obviously me stressed out/hormonal/didn't want to be there/ didn't help. Very envious of people who get half a day off for a scan! I got half and hour then back at it!
Didn't find out sex in the end- been in two minds but ATM quite happy with my head telling me its a boy. Scans aren't always right and wouldn't want to build up a picture of boy or girl and then tell colleague- YOU got it wrong- would rather find out for ourselves, and that can only happen at the birth now. So no sneaky peeks for me!
Sorry, this is such a ramble and I only wanted to wish everyone well, happy holidays and scans, etc.
Eat what you feel comfortable with and hopefully friends and family will be there for you to tell to do all the hard work!
love mumofk

Coolchristmasfairy · 21/12/2007 20:00

I just realised that it was so long since I posted that I haven't yet been on the 2nd trimester thread!!!
Glad to hear that all is moving along for everyone - I had my 20-week scan yesterday and it was wonderful to see the baby waving and wriggling - I now understand why I can feel baby at most times during the day - I certainly don't remember DS being this busy!
We have all been busy with the runup to xmas and have had houseloads of people staying every weekend for the last couple of weeks - am very glad for the chance to put my feet up now. Also had that miserable vomiting bug in our house, although I seemed to have escaped the worst of it - DS and DH didn't unfortunately .....
I have also had to pull out the maternity stuff again and am slowly moving into that - much more comfortable.
Generally all is good - I was actually tested for toxoplasmosis which I have never had so am being quite careful about what I eat - have to suffer the two things I am not really partial to - hard eggs and well-cooked meat - yuck!!
I have also apparently not had chicken pox so am on tenterhooks every time DS's mates come to play. I may well have to hibernate for the last 2 months and be seriously anti-social.
Gosh - what an epic post - Merry xmas to all and catch up in the NEw Year
We haven't found out the sex, but I am carrying exactly the same way as I was with DS so I think it's another boy -

pregnabrain · 21/12/2007 22:45

Wow. I can't keep up with the conversations on here.

I've been quiet coz both dd and I struck down by horrible cold virus thingy. In fact, am off to bed in a minute in anticipation of another night of sick child joy.

Congratulations to everyone who's had a second scan. Mine's not till the end of Jan - feels like an age away. Am totally jealous of everyone who knows the sex. Dh is adamant we shouldn't find out. Grr.

I'm currently craving peanut butter and haven't been able to stop myself eating it (pretty much every day for the last two weeks). I feel guilty as I know that, in theory, you're supposed to avoid it. Haribo (or any sweets like fizzy cola bottles) are also a BIG fave. Oh dear. Why couldn't it be something healthy?

santasPLH - you have my total respect for your calmness in the face of such a difficult pregnancy. Mine is likely to get nasty in the last trimester and I only hope I can be as calm as you.

macaco - my friend in Italy had exactly the same worry as you earlier this year. She tried to read up as much as she could about natural childbirth so that she could go into it with a clear idea of what she wanted. In the end, the baby was huge, so some intervention was required, but she was happy afterwards that she'd been in control of it all.

JingleBellsRoady · 22/12/2007 10:51

Hello everyone and welcome to Fleurie76!
I can't wait for my 20 week scan, it's on the 2nd Jan!
I have added Fleurie to our stats and moved cece and baby Hope (God bless her).
Love and hugs to everyone,
JBR xxx

Aww congrats to everyone who's had their scans!!

after being so well organised....I go to tax my car today to find that they havent re-insured me (as in its due to be renewed on 31st of this month but they havent sent out my policy with cooling off period! ) so hubby has given vthem what for on the phone etc etc THEN play.com have left me with one day...bloody christmas eve!! to receive a cd!! It was posted ages ago you know when everything looks like its going tits up!

Thanks santaspreglittlehelper (twinny) for your well wishes...still feeling a bit icky but not being sick

hope you are all well xxx

whenachildisbob · 22/12/2007 18:08

Evening everyone - I can't believe some of you are only just considering maternity clothes now.

I"m going to post a picture of me and my bump taken on Wednesday night.

Will have to do it later tough, dh is nagging me to tidy the lounge first. The floor seems so much further away for tidying - I guess crawling around is the only way to go from here on in!!!

whenachildisbob · 22/12/2007 19:39

Right! Bump photo is up! I'm wearing the most comfy party dress ever from Topshop maternity. Twas my first visit to Topshop in about 10 years and I felt v old

Hi everyone-I am busy packing to go home for christmas!! Can't wait..although I only hope that the fog lifts and that flights are not cancelled..fingers crossed! I haven't seen my brothers and sisters since september..(I have 6 brothers & 2 sisters: am only realising now what my mother went through!). Can't wait to see my 2 nephews and neice also..they are sooo excited!
Imagine ladies that this time next year things will be different for all of us!
Have a lovely christmas,
xxxx

sweetbean · 23/12/2007 18:31

i can't wait to be holding a massive glass of champers this time next year!!!!

other half has copped raw meat on the salad board again!! and then i buttered toast on it and ate it with out realising !! have just had a total breakdown screaming and crying and telling him he's a fucking idiot !!!!

So all a bit crap and am now in total panic mode again!!!!

sweetbean · 23/12/2007 18:33

Should also have mentioned that it was bacon ! AHHHHHHHHHHH am fraeking out

macaco · 23/12/2007 18:39

Try not to worry sweetbean, you're very unlikely to suffer any ill effects.

sweetbean · 23/12/2007 18:47

i know but its the toxoplasmosis that's making me worried !! I'm i mad?

Londonirish....yes things might be a bit different!!!! having two...and poor chuffed ROFL!! imagine all that wrapping paper at her house!

Sweetbean..i'm sure you'll be just fine....bet if you didnt know he'd done it, you wouldnt know any different and your body wouldnt either. Most people will have had a mild form of toxoplasmosis without even realising it (spesh if OH makes a bloody habit of it! tut tut!) and you become immune.
Give your midwife a ring to have a chat with her...im sure she'll say everything will be fine but just to put your mind at rest.

Fleurie76 · 24/12/2007 10:49

Thanks for the welcome ladies and for being added to the stats list!
V jealous of whenachildisbob's bump! Have finally given in and after almost exposing my (unflattering) pants to everyone when I got out of the car with jeans fully undone I think it's time to buy some maternity jeans.
Hope everyone has a good Christmas, It's wierd to think this is our last one on our own but can't wait to subject our new arrival next year to Mummy singing very bad renditions of Christmas songs and buying a little stocking...
Good luck to all who have scans soon!
