What a lot of posts to catch up on!

I've still got another 3 weeks til my anomaly scan, so a bit jealous of you ladies who've had another peak at your baby/ies!

Welcome MrsVO

I was made very happy this weekend when I found a company making non-alcoholic organic mulled berry wine - it tastes absolutely divine . Am overjoyed that I'll be able to enjoy a full sized glass of red (or two!) over Christmas without having to worry, plus it's good for me with all those yummy berries in it!

Well, I probably won't post until after Christmas now as I can see things getting a little hectic with an 18month toddler getting far too excited! Also my birthday next week (eek!), so let the good times commence!

Have a lovely festive period, keep well and try to remember the true meaning of Christmas xx

not much else to report here, consultant tomorrow and then scan on thursday. have had to take my engagement and wedding rings off already as my fingers are swelling slightly, so reckon we're on for a really early delivery

HI all,

Re-non-alcoholic mulled wine, sounds fab, but remember ladies, a little bit of real wine is OK too! There was an article in the Times a few weeks back on how pregnant women are advised not to drink because a lot of people just go mad, and so it's easier for the government to say 'none at all'. Obviously binge drinking is out but the odd glass won't hurt.
To be honest, I had the odd glass (probably one glass of red wine a month with a meal) with dd1, and she is perfect in everyway. I have had the odd glass in this pregnancy too. I'm certainly no alcoholic (honest !! but I do miss a nice glass of red with a nice meal. Although, to be honest, I think I miss brie more.......we are having a Chrismtas party for our friends and today we got the food, DH insisited on buying brie, even though 3 of my mates are pg, it's just not fair !!

Regarding names, I think we will go for Cerys Mary for a girl. We chose this before Im a celeb was on btw!!! Not sure for a boy, maybe Dominic James ('Dom', or 'DJ!'). I quite like fairly normal names, some might say boring!! (the middle names in both cases after family members who have died recently).

Feeling little Keanu (bump's nickname) moving about quite a bit. It's a lovely feeling!

Keep well all of you, and treat yourself to glass of vino if you feel like it!!

podglet · 18/12/2007 19:55

Hi again,

I too indulge in a small glass of real vino occaisionally but I also love the non alco mulled wine. M & S do one. I even go so far as to put slices of lemon and orange in it for authenticity

Names - we wanted family names as DS (Ivan David) is named after my grandfather and my FIL.
Boy - Alfie (Alfred) George Louis
Girl - Elizabeth (Libby) Jeanette Sheila

Bit of a mouthful for each but the surname is nice and short!

Can't wait to see Bundle on Thursday at the scan

JingleBellsRoady · 18/12/2007 21:04

Hi all, just checking in - hello and welcome to MrsVO and Happy BIrthday to blobsmummy!

I can feel LO moving tons at the mo, can't wait until DH can actually feel it on the outside.
I can also hear my blood pumping in my ears! It happened when I was exercising, or had just had a hot bath, but now it is happening a lot all the time and I can 'see' the blood running through my eyes too! DS is particularly grossed out by this!

Merry Christmas to you all!

I am feeling very festive today and I love the idea of non alcoholic mulled wine!!!

Hello everyone. Santastresshead, ferritin levels must be something to do with iron. I've been told I'll be having bloods done in Jan at next mw appointment. Haven't had any done since 6 weeks. Got rid of the cough I had but now plagued by constipation. I am NEVER constipated. EVER. So it's definitely pregnancy related. Been eating prunes.
Just have today and tomnorrow at work and then off til 8th Jan !!!!! Woohoo! Going to have a haircut with my mum on Friday and then out for lunch and round the Christmas market in town. Roll on Friday! Good luck for all you ladies having scans soon....it's so lovely to see your baby on the screen. I'd like even more scans! How many does everyone get? Here in Spain we get 12 weeks, 20, 32 and 40 (!)

JingleBellsRoady · 19/12/2007 11:26

wow macaco, a scan at 40 weeks!!!

whenachildisbob · 19/12/2007 11:28

In my part of Scotland we get 12 weeks...and that's it!!!!

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 19/12/2007 12:57

santaslittlestreshead - yes that's me jacobandlysetteandabump i had ds at 32 weeks and consultant again said this morning that we're on for 30 weeks, 32 at the latest. the only bonus is that i get scanned tomorrow then probably 24 then def 28 and 32 if i get there! and if i go any longer i get 36 weeks as well. and if there's any issues about growth they will scan me every 2 weeks from 26 weeks!!!

i didn't drink at all with ds (just our choice i know what the guidelines are and of course nbot judging anyone at all please don't get me wrong!) from the day we found out and we just felt that if we did it for him then we couldn't really not do it for this one. and tbh not really missing it that much although when dh breaks out the nice champagne at christmas i'll miss it i'm sure!

and for anyone missing lovely cheese i looked at the packaging on la rustique camembert last week and it says it's pasteurised??? I'll have to check again but if it's pasteurised we pg ladies can have some

i had all these great plans for my first meal after delivery last time - shellfish then rare beef and lots of runny cheese....all i wanted in the end was a bit of toast!

had pre eclampsia bloods done again today so hopefully they are all ok, will find out next week.

hope everyone is all ok and those bumps are shuffling well!

Hello

Blobsmummy when is your next scan, mine is on Jan 8th - Homerton Hospital in Hackney.

I am getting lots of tickles off Pinky & Perky, no kicks yet but these tickles are cracking me up. I'm sooo ticklish, how do they know?!!

I don't want to know the sexes, but DH does ... but he's wavering ... is there any way to find out later if we don't find out at 20-wk scan?

By the way Pinky & Perky aren't their chosen names!!! Ronnie and Reggie maybe

Mumblesmummy · 19/12/2007 15:43

Happy birthday blobsmummy ava gud'n.

Podgelet- great minds think alike- we're still definately set on libby too. It's so soft and lovely.

I really liked Carys for a while which is close to cerys. Good choice.

Our scan is a week tomorrow so I'm hideous jelous of anyone who has one sooner just joking, good luck to every1.

Me and DP are down today as we arrawnged last summer to get married abroad july 2009 and every1 said they'd definately be there and it would be fantastic, however, we didn't want to push any1 to their financial limit so we made quite a sacrifice and chose a very average hotel even tho we could have gone to a better one. Now MIL has said she can't afford it so wedding is sort of off at the moment. I'm really really beside myself, especially as I'm so hormonal at the moment. Shite time for her to mention it eh? That's the way things go tho...

What are everyone's cravings this week? I'm on ice cubes, fruit juice an d passionfruit. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

How many people know what they're having now? Boy or girls wise I mean? Is it as expected?

PazzaPlusTwo · 19/12/2007 16:11

Mmmm... cravings!

Soft cheese (always want what I can't have) ... yes there is a pasteurised camembert from Tesco's or Sainsbury's.

Eating tons of fruit too. Am finding it harder to shovel down handfuls of Haribo without getting queasy, which is probably no bad thing.

Meat craving has subsided now. At one point half the fridge was full of slabs of meat and bacon, DH being a veggie wasn't that impressed. I could have bitten the leg off the postman!

coby · 19/12/2007 16:44

Hello all, just checking in after a 6 week absence from the thread. Been busy with both DDs being very poorly for some time. Also had fun with DD2 who is 19 months deciding to not sleep at all so I had to go through controlled crying - not easy at the best of times but awful when you're hormonal. Thankfully it worked and we are now getting some sleep (WOO HOO).

Nugget (bump) has decided to assume the position of it's predecessors DDs 1 and 2 and sit on my spine. It has something to do with my pelvis being an odd shape, I get to about 20 weeks then the little one settles back to back and stays there until it comes out. As a result I'm expecting another long labour - no amount of crawling on all fours worked the last two times but it sure entertained DH

We have our 20 week scan on New Years Eve and I'm really looking forward to making sure all is OK. I was told the sex at 12 weeks (not that I asked but I didn't mind, it seemed very obvious on the scan tbh - not a shy nugget at all )but am interested to see what they say this time. They said a boy and I'm in denial - surely I couldn't be that lucky and have a DS on my last chance. If it is a DD we have her name already I think. As long as the baby is healthy and preferably has the need to sleep for more than 4 hours a night I really don't mind what we have...that said, if I have to look at another wardrobe of pink clothes ARRGGHHHHHHHH.

I've rattled on for far too long ...merry christmas to all

Cravings for all sorts of naughty things like soft cheese, shellfish and raw meat. Glad it's not just me

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 19/12/2007 18:14

pazzaplustwo - you can always have a private scan if you want to / can. the 4d ones are pretty good for sexing the baby.

mumblesmummy my MIL is about as tactful on occasion - they are coming for christmas and were coming in the summer (christmas was an extra trip for them), on the understanding that she is coming over to help out with ds when this baby is born (as will be v prem). coming from NZ btw. she then turned round on the phone one day and said she wasn't coming over when the baby is born because of christmas and summer holiday. made me feel v that they made such a fuss shen ds was born but didn't seem to care about this one. but we had a sharp word and sorted it out. maybe talking to your MIL might help as it is a while away - surely she would have time to save up as you have given plenty of notice? not like your usual 8 week invitation!

how is everyone else?

my craving at the moment is rice pudding, and mince pies (which is fortunate )

Hello everyone.

Mumblesmummy, sorry to hear about your MIL, what a cow! Hope you can sort things out. I'm very lucky with my MIL and I thank my lucky stars she's so nice.
I'm not craving anything really, although I do feel hungry a lot. Still only put on 2 kilos but I do now have a bump of sorts. Don't think most people can tell I'm pregnant though.
I've been eating prawns...is this OK? What about other shellfish? Can you eat goats cheese as well, I had some last night in a restaurant and then thought....oops!?
We get a lot of scans here, not sure what the 32 weeks is for really...positioning of the baby? As for the 40 week, I know that you're really fairly closely monitored here at the end.....they're a bit obsessed with being all medical...hopefully I can avoid a typical Spanish over medicalised birth.
Bit worried about it actually as DH will pass out instantly and be of no use at all, worried about doing it in a foreign country with DH basically passed out on the floor or out of the room a lot.

PotPourri · 20/12/2007 15:41

Hi all. sorry, I have been rubbish at joining in the conversation - just not enough hours in a day. And welcome those who joined recently.

Glad to hear everyone is growing and having scans (lucky things - we only have 12 weeks where I am in Scotland too). and I am loving hte talk of food and wine (even if it is pretend stuff!). I cannot believe the amount of food I am eating. Fortunately it all seems to be going into the bump for now - phew! Can't wait for christmas. This is my last day at work. My 2 DSs are sooo excited about christmas this year and it is definately contagious!

anyway, will probalby be ages again at this rate that I get back on here, so merry christmas everyone! Keep well!

PotPourri · 20/12/2007 15:43

Macaco. Think you are not meant to eat prawns or goats cheese in case you get food poiseoning. I guess you haven't done so far or you wonldn't be writing about it today. Regarding the over medical birth. If you can, you should stay at home for as long as you can possibly bear - the ideal would be that you turn up at the hospital and are not far off pushing. Harder than it sounds, but I have heard lots of people saying that worked for them.

JingleBellsRoady · 20/12/2007 16:27

hello all, i am wrapped up in a duvet next to DH who is having an afternoon nap! he is on a rare day off from the police, bless him. DS is out round a friends house, enjoying the first day of the holidays!

macaco - i'm sure eating a bit of these things is fine, the advice is that things like that have an increased risk, isn't it?

santas little stresshead - we had to get a plumber yesterday for the flat we are selling and i had to ring 14 before one even had time to listen to me! nightmare. i wish i had a plumber and an electrician in the family!

santas pregnant little helper - i dont have any cravings as yet. how come you are expected to have this baby early too? is is pre-eclampsia?

coby - i'm glad your DDs are better, sounds like you had a real nightmare! let us know if they say boy at the 20 week scan too, i am worried they will get it wrong, and we will have lots of girl things and it will be a boy!!!

pazza and mumblesmummy and everyone else - we keep calling the bump daft names and not the names we are considering, and ronnie and reggie would be hilarious!

i can't believe how much mine is moving, it doesn't seem to ever sleep! hope its not like this when its born!!!

merry christmas to you all
JBR xxxxxxx

KangaAndRoo · 20/12/2007 16:28

I was told goats cheese is a no no unless you know its pasturised??

Ferritin binds your iron but it turns out im not anaemic yayyyyyy!! they think its hypotension along with low ferritin thats making me breathless.

Ive JUST got over a very nasty stomach bug...bad vomitting....carried myself into work this morning...although youre never thought of any more..just a number...so sod em...i carried myself off home!! hahaha
At least its gone for xmas *touches wood!

hope all the bumps are doing well. x

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 20/12/2007 19:11

kanga hope you feel better soon and yes sod em!

JBR yes apparently if you have severe pre eclampsia (mine was really bad and narrowly avoided a stroke after delivery) you are more likely to get it next time round and earlier too... ds was born at 32+2 and my consultant has suggested he will be very surprised if we even get that far this time...

you're not supposed to eat prawns or unpasteurised cheese as you are more suscueptible to food poisoning - so yes most goats cheeses are out. as is pate. but you must have been ok!

and the big news is..........we're having another boy! so I was wrong, all my friends were wrong, my mum and MIL were wrong, and the chinese birth chart was wrong! the only person that was right was DH . We have chosen samuel as a name, which always be shortened to Sam. My father was particularly tactless and said "what a shame" when we told him . he and my mum both wanted a grand-daughter.

but we are overjoyed! Aand he is growing well at the moment - all his measurements are around 25th centile, except for his legs which are 60th! ds has prety long legs so that is to be expected.

anyway, must go it's time for ds's bath.

santaslittlestresshead good luck for tomorrow
