I've also broken out in stretch marks this week :(
The good news is that they do fade after the birth, but for me they've never completely disappeared... Oh well. Not much I can do about it for now!

Daffodil21 · 09/06/2021 12:27

I had loads on my thighs and legs very early on because of the meds I was on, they've actually started to fade a bit already. My bump does does feel huge though so I'm not overly surprised they've started to appear now, just wondered if it was 'normal' yet but I guess each pregnancy is different!!

Hi ladies, hope you are all coping ok in the heat! I’ve had my covid jab this morning, I was really unsure on whether to get it during pregnancy but I asked my consultant when I had my last appointment with him and he gave me a clear recommendation rather than just saying it’s for you to weigh up the risks like all the other guidance seems to say so that reassured me quite a bit.

@HopefulB I’m same as you in that work haven’t arranged proper maternity cover, would be so much easier if they had! I feel like I’m going to struggle to focus on anything except work for the next few weeks until I’ve finished, its stressful enough when you have to do a handover for going on holiday never mind maternity leave! I am finishing a few weeks early though so hopefully that will give me time to wind down and sort any last minute bits, oh and move house hopefully too 🤦‍♀️

Inmypjsagain · 09/06/2021 13:11

Tbh I could have stretch marks on my bum cos that has definitely expanded but I haven’t looked for a while! A friend got stretch marks at 12 weeks so I guess it depends on skin type? I think they’re normal at any time! My stomach is quite veiny and fluffy though, no sign of a linea nigra yet either.

@notinthestarsigns how’s your arm feeling?

My head is all over the place with work! I can’t wait to hand over and in hindsight wonder if I should have requested mat leave start earlier!

notinthestarsigns · 09/06/2021 13:24

@Inmypjsagain it’s fine at the moment so hopefully it stays that way! I did get a dead arm after the whooping cough jab but not really until the evening. These last few weeks of work are tough aren’t they!

PurplePansy05 · 09/06/2021 15:17

I had no side effects at all after the Pfizer vaccine. Really pleased I've had it. None at all after whooping cough either. It's a nice surprise considering the flu vaccine flattened me earlier on in pregnancy 🙌

@Inmypjsagain My bump is veiny and fluffy too, DH can't see it, but I definitely can! xx

Inmypjsagain · 09/06/2021 16:30

Pfizer made my arm ACHE for 72 hours but no other side effects fortunately! Hoping I can get my second dose in before august! Hope no other side effects for you either @notinthestarsigns

Yeah my tummy wasn’t hairy pre pregnancy that I noticed it I’m shocked at the fluff! Husband doesnt the veins either @PurplePansy05 I do wonder if theyll get more pronounced? My belly button is looking pretty stretched these days though!

Ready2020 · 09/06/2021 17:10

Black out curtains seem to be doing the job in the bedroom for street lighting. Though the curtains are about half an inch too short so let in a bit of light that way. Still, better than the other set.

I had my midwife appointment today too with my new midwife. They were so nice and gave me loads of things the other midwife didn't when I was based in the borders. All is well and bump measures 33...something. Anyway its all normal.

They re took all my bloods so they have their own results on file. Plus they weighed me 😬 I've put on a stone since 12 weeks. Baby is head down again so that's good. Got my 32 week growth scan tomorrow but I think that'll be my last.

I've not got stretch marks yet but I've got a very fluffy belly now that I didn't have. It's all blonde fluff though.

OH is attending a local dad's to be course on zoom tonight. I really hope it's a good all male space for him to meet new pals and learn something from a dad's pov.

MrsB2019x · 09/06/2021 17:50

I wondered where you’d all got to! Thanks for the new thread @Daffodil21, haven’t caught up yet but I will do.

Nice to see you back @PurplePansy05 and hope everything is okay with you and your boy Flowers

30+4 today, sleep is non-existent and the hip pain is reeeeeal. But love my growing girlie 💕 after measuring quite ahead a few weeks ago I was measured again yesterday and everything seems to have plateaued. They’re not concerned but have a growth scan and consultant on 20/7 anyway. So excited to see her again!

Hope you are all keeping well and managing in the heat x

alittlexmasmagic · 09/06/2021 18:24

Hi all,
I had an unscheduled MW appointment today which was nice. Needed my MatB1 and also noticed my bump measurement had been missed off my chart last time, so she slotted me in to get that charted. Baby is back to back and breach so explains movement patterns, plenty of time to move though, 29+3.
No fresh stretch marks for me yet, I didn't get any until quite late last time so hoping to avoid many more this time. No fuzz for me either x

HopefulB · 09/06/2021 19:02

@PurplePansy05 going back to induction questions - this may be of interest. www.nice.org.uk/guidance/indevelopment/gid-ng10082/consultation/html-content

NCT also covered mechanical methods of induction - described a inserting a small
tube and blowing up a balloon to sit on you cervix to make it dilate. Which could be an option if induction was recommended and you wanted to avoid meds you’d had previously.

Ready2020 · 09/06/2021 21:28

I'm trying to work out how comfortable I will be going to far from home after 36 weeks. I've mentioned before about my sister who has cancer. We're trying to arrange things to do that she wants like going to the bingo and spa. Thing is my other sister lives in Durham and has 3 boys between 10 and 5. She doesn't like leaving them alone with her husband at the weekend (doesn't trust him to look after them maybe?) so can only do week days. I'm still working and with maternity leave looming I don't want to take any more days off. So we've come a bit stuck.

They're saying we can do things once I'm on maternity but I'm really reluctant to go far after then as I'll be 36 weeks. Am I just being paranoid? I'll only be going from Dunbar to Falkirk or Edinburgh. But it's still an hour away in the car and I'm not keen on driving that far. But also don't want to be left without a car and my partner not close by. But I also don't want to disappoint my sisters by not going!

alittlexmasmagic · 09/06/2021 22:03

@Ready2020 I can see why you are worried but the travelling times sound scarier than they are. Many ladies commute longer distances than that up to term. Personally I'd get the train to wherever you all decide on going, save driving and allow yourself to get up & stretch out when needed.
Take your notes with you but in all likelihood you'll have plenty of advance warning to get your DP to come get you and take you home/hospital.
I finished work at 36 weeks with DS, who was 2 weeks late and bored silly by that point. I wish I'd have done something fun with the first week or two off x

LottSE20 · 09/06/2021 22:12

Hope everyone has had a lovely day in the sunshine. I had my first pregnancy yoga class in person today - it was so nice to meet other pregnant ladies (other than you lot of course!)

@Ready2020 I don’t think an hour is particularly far, you’ll have a good chance of getting back quickly if you have any hint of labour coming. But equally you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with - and maybe you might not know that until closer to the time?

biscuitcat · 09/06/2021 22:43

@PurplePansy05 thinking of a post you made a couple of days ago about Motherland - we're about halfway through series two and loving it! And if you/anyone remembers my unreasonable SIL, Amanda on Motherland has a lot in common with her!

@Ready2020 I would have thought an hour away would be OK - but it's totally down to what you feel happy doing! I'm asking my midwife tomorrow about the wisdom of driving 3 hours away at about the same gestation, if it's helpful I can report back what she says?

BertieBotts · 09/06/2021 23:42

An hour away should be fine at 36 weeks. I think you'll manage it OK :)

PurplePansy05 · 09/06/2021 23:46

@biscuitcat Oooh, Amanda! I totally get you now. Hard work 🤣 But she has her moments too, she might surprise you but I won't spoil anything on here 😊

Hey @MrsB2019x! We're doing ok, thanks. I hope your growth scan goes well and that your bump increases in size soon, although I am really struggling to imagine how we can possibly get even bigger and more uncomfortable now! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@HopefulB I am going to have a read before I speak to the consultant, thanks for this. That baloon thing sounds strange to me 😂 To be fair, the MW was very good with me, she left all the options on the table and it genuinely felt like I will be able to choose the best one for us which is a nice feeling.

My hip is beyond painful today...I was awake from 3am last night in pain, pushing my bedtime a bit now and hoping to make it at least till 6...xx

wimbler · 10/06/2021 09:40

I would be comfortable going that distance at 36 weeks. We've got an overnight wedding when I'll be 38 weeks! Will take my hospital bag and car seat with us just in case though!

WolfMother326 · 10/06/2021 09:42

Hello all,

I'm 30 weeks now and have also suddenly started to see the stretch marks - angry red skin around my belly button mostly. but it makes sense, as I feel really huge all of a sudden! Using cream but have read that doesn't really help.

I had the Pfizer vaccine earlier in the year (start of second trimester). The first jab was fine, no side effects, but the second one I did have a tiny fever and felt rough for about 24 hours. The only time during the pregnancy I've taken paracetemol which really helped.

I have a question: does anyone have good recommendations for very lightweight summer maternity clothes? I am dying already in the heat in London and know the summer will be pretty uncomfortabe. Thinking strappy dresses and very light shorts or vests. Mostly it's just very hot in my flat and I want good lounge wear. Thanks!

wimbler · 10/06/2021 10:01

@WolfMother326 I've heard that you are more likely to have a reaction to the second dose of the pfizer. When I got my first dose a few weeks ago the doctor at the vaccination centre I spoke to said as my second dose schedule will coincide with my due date, it's best to wait a few weeks longer just in case I have a reaction.

BertieBotts · 10/06/2021 10:03

For lounge wear you can't beat primark pyjamas actually! Doesn't need to be maternity.

If you need something more dressed looking then I'm no use to you :o

Ready2020 · 10/06/2021 10:09

I'm probably being well over cautious about going too far from home and it's good to hear others are planning a night away etc.

Thanks @biscuitcat that would be very useful to hear what your midwife says.

I'm starting to feel excitement about the baby coming now. I have felt it a bit before but it's properly there now. It's a good feeling.

wimbler · 10/06/2021 10:18

@Ready2020 there's definitely no right or wrong answer and only you know if you feel comfortable travelling. this is my second baby and by 39 weeks when I had my ELCS with my first I'd not gone into labour spontaneously but of course it can happen at any point. Your midwife might be able to give you better advice closer to the time based on babies position etc too

lucyrp · 10/06/2021 10:29

A lady on another group I'm on went away at 38 weeks I told her she was crazy and that night she went into labour 🙈😂

Daffodil21 · 10/06/2021 10:32

I've given up on maternity clothes now. I just can't find anything nice that fits properly so I've just bought a couple of things I bigger sizes. Plus nowhere seems to stock any maternity in store and I'm so fed up with sending stuff back!

I went on another little shopping trip yesterday with my mum and she very kindly bought me some more dresses. They're not maternity, just larger sizes so considering how big I am they don't fit toooo badly!

The green is fat face and the blue is crew just in case anyone is interested! Felt a little spendy for a couple of months so I was thankful for mum!!
