Hello - MNHQ here: really sorry to burst into your thread.

We just wanted to let you know that tomorrow (Wednesday) evening we're running a free one-hour Zoom event about giving birth - and everyone who attends will be in with a chance of winning one of 25 copies of the guest's book about giving birth without fear.

You can see more details and sign up here

Thanks - and hope you're all feeling as well as possible and coping as the hot weather approaches Flowers

Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 13:47

@PurplePansy05 makes sense! I’m lucky because I had 15 days holiday carry over from last year on top of this year’s entitlement so am taking that before and my usual entitlement at the other end. I’ve been given a breakdown of pay from my employers for Mat leave but it’s SMP so I guess easy to calculate.
Hope your HR have their heads around SPL because it’s seems many don’t. Also sounds like it’s really worked out for the best with the other employers- sounds like it’s given you food for thought for the future and like you’ve got a few other opportunities to explore! 😊 xx

@Smurf123 when do you get your results? Does seem relentless! 🤞🏼 no more dramas!

@Hoares3 lovely bump!!! Definitely looks to have popped to me!

@biscuitcat yes I think this all the time! My friend with a September baby, really is a fully functioning baby that eats real food and crawling, whereas this one still bouncing round in my tummy! There’s always the opportunity to defer a year though for school and I’ve seen a few threads here about august babies in general which I avoid- because it’s either people saying how clever their august baby is, or how the naughty ones in the class are born in august and it’s because they’re behind or it’s plenty of people saying they deliberately tried to avoid august when ttc (amazing to see how many people had such control over conception...! Though must admit if I could choose not be heavily pregnant in a heatwave I would!)

@LottSE20 a lot depends when you live.
Am in London and the nursery we like has a 1 year waiting list, I plan to be on Mat leave for 14
Months (inc annual leave) but would like to try and have him a day at nursery from 11 months to get him settled but also for some socialisation. So worth checking now- we only started looking last Friday though after my mum suggested it, I thought she was nuts at first!

Corr it’s a bit hot today, isn’t it? I mean, it’s lovely but 🥵 🥵 🥵

Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 13:51

And @Daffodil21 thanks for the thread link 😊 I’m not sure the opening message acts as a tag- or it could just be I didn’t get notified? But yeah seems a good idea as there are definitely people posting on the board but not on the thread. I do often think of Champson too, I so hope little Holly is doing well.

Smurf123 · 08/06/2021 14:10

@Inmypjsagain they couldn't fit me in for the repeat bloods until Thursday so I'm hoping to get results on Monday.

Here in NI our schools are different so this baby will be one of the oldest in the year (providing they don't come bwfore30th June) but I remember thinking the same with ds as he's a March birthday so he will be one of the youngest.

PurplePansy05 · 08/06/2021 14:13

I've been thinking of Champson a lot too amd hoping for some positive news.

Re notifications, I think it depends on everyone's personal settings.

I agree with everything you've said there @Inmypjsagain. I think ultimately every child is different and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. People avoiding TTC for August due date make me laugh, clearly no idea about their luxurious (naive?) position.

Re silly comments, I don't think it's just the born in August thing though - all of my friends who already have children laughingly tell me wait until the competition begins and all the labelling and generalisations, and all the "my child is so brilliant they can read and write at 8 months" and "oh, we took little Joey swimming at 2 weeks old" kind of thing 🤣 As well as unsolicited unwanted advice and dumping stuff you don't need just because someone's decluttering 🤣 It sounds fun. I will be the sarcastic mum about this sort of stuff for sure haha. People will just be opinionated no matter what and trying to prove their point, whereas chances are our little ones will be just fine despite their young age. 😊 Anyone watched Motherland on Netflix/BBC? It's quite funny xx

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2021 14:16

Haven't even thought about nurseries here yet either 😂

Didn't have any hip pain this morning so thanks for the suggestions!

@BertieBotts I've had two cervical measurements but I had to push for them and they only agreed because I asked in the meeting we had about them messing up so I think they just agreed to keep me quiet. I'm not sure they'd agree again though. Why it isn't checked as standard I have no idea, it takes like 2 mins!

@Inmypjsagain I didn't get notifications when others posted it either but wasn't sure if it was just me. I didn't want to remove anyone in case they didn't feel welcome anymore so maybe no tags on the next one just to be on the safe side!

@Ready2020 will ours be youngest in the year? I'm not familiar with Scottish school systems at all!!

OP posts:
Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 15:22

@Smurf123 ugh what a pain!

@PurplePansy05 yeah I think it’s a bit 🤨 when people say that, I understand the thought process and everyone’s entitled to do what they want,
But that’s a real luxury!

I don’t know how I’ll cope with competitive parenting- truly. I already have a friend with the perfect baby so I can imagine this will only get worse. I started watching motherland on Saturday night and it’s given me a good laugh. I don’t know if anyone saw the duchess with Catherine Ryan on Netflix but I thought the mum dynamic on that was funny too!

I had no idea the school system was different across the country! Tbh it’s so dependent on the baby. I actually have had teacher friends advise me on this already and I’ve said well it’s a bit hard to tell what id do considering I haven’t met him yet. Someone told me being the youngest is a disadvantage for sport- being related to me is a disadvantage for sport because I’m useless 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ready2020 · 08/06/2021 15:32

@Daffodil21 I think it's different here yeah. Unless it's changed since I was at school. I was born 22 Feb and was only 4 when I started school. I was thee youngest in my year all the way through. This was 30 odd years ago so it's probably different now. This is the sort of stuff I feel I should know but really don't! I looked at a nursery for where we've moved to but think the one attached to the primary school might be better. I just don't think I have time or head space to think about it just now Confused

I'm trying to sort my shared mat leave with work today. OH is taking 4 weeks of my unpaid leave and I'll be going back to work after 9 months. I could take a further 9 weeks unpaid but not really sure we can afford it. Which is a pain as I'm not that attached to my job really.

Trying to unpack some more boxes today but even bending down is uncomfortable. I do a lot of craft and have about 5 boxes of stuff to unpack and no clue at all where to put them!

Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 17:30

@Ready2020 think unboxing is a good job to delegate to!!! Have you got used to your street light yet?

Does anyone specifically speak to their bump? Or play music to it? My friend just told me she’s pregnant and she asked me what books I’d recommend for her to read to her bump... not quite sure what to reply if im honest 😂 it hadn’t really occurred to me, figure the poor thing hears me speaking all day...

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2021 17:51

@Ready2020 your birthday is the day after mine :) I did think it was different here. Not too worried either way though!

@Inmypjsagain I don't speak to mine. It just feels weird so I don't 🙈

I stopped by my old office earlier and my boss comments 'you're very big for August' 🙄🙄

We've watched motherland too!

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 08/06/2021 18:23

I talk to mine sometimes, mainly to respond to him kicking me!

Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 20:15

Yeah the most I’ve said it ouch stop that...

@Daffodil21 🙄🙄🙄 he really sounds like a prat

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2021 20:28

@Inmypjsagain he is a bit 😂 this wasn't my last boss where I just left. It's the one before I relocated (well one, there's two partners)

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 08/06/2021 20:45

@Daffodil21 Cheeky bastard! I bet he knows all about women's and babies' sizes in pregnancy 🙄

I don't talk to mine. I say good morning to him if he's active in the morning, but he hears me on Teams or speaking to DH/friends all day. He seems to love deep voices, always kicks about when he hears my boss or DH's grandad 😊 Oh and we do actually educate him in music, particularly from the 80s as DH said he'd be singing along to him when he's born I cannot wait xx

Smurf123 · 08/06/2021 20:53

I don't specifically speak to mine but she seems to respond to ds bedtime stories.... Which currently means she's likely to be a fan of Dinosaurs and poop 🙈🙈 ds current favourite books to read are the dinosaur that pooped a planet and the dinosaur that pooped a pirate 🙈

alittlexmasmagic · 08/06/2021 20:57

@Smurf123 you need to add Poo in the Zoo to your collection! I used to lie awake with insomnia in early pregnancy trying to remember the words to that book 😂x

Daffodil21 · 08/06/2021 21:03

@PurplePansy05 his wife has had 5 kids so I guess he sort of does 😂 I am really big now, but you'd think he'd have enough tact not to say it!!!

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 08/06/2021 22:06

@alittlexmasmagic oo just had a look at that one on Amazon.. I think ds would love it so it's going on our book wish list 🤣 he is a real book worm already at only 3 which I love 💕

Inmypjsagain · 08/06/2021 22:08

@Smurf123 oh are they the mcfly people books? Thought they looked fun!

@alittlexmasmagic of all the things to keep you entertained during sleepless night!

@Daffodil21 people have no tact with bumps I’ve noticed!!!

@PurplePansy05 interesting you’ve noticed a difference with voice depths! And nothing wrong with some 80s music, probably better than the music my baby’s being exposed to 😂

PurplePansy05 · 08/06/2021 22:20

@Daffodil21 This only means he knows how his wife carried 5 pregnancies and that he knows precisely zero about yours 😊

@Inmypjsagain He seems to like Lewis Capaldi more than the 80s tunes so far! Another deep voice, actually xx

Daffodil21 · 09/06/2021 08:33

Well, today is the day. The stretch marks that have been threatening to come through have appeared on my belly 😒 anyone else yet?!

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 09/06/2021 10:06

@Inmypjsagain yes that's them! Ds does love them.. Long stories mind you if you have a child like mine who always asks for it "again, one last time" every single night at bedtime 🤣

I'm waiting on a midwife appt today.. Left ds with my mum for the first time in over a year. He thinks it's amazing that he was allowed to go in the front door this morning and in the house as opposed to the garden! How covid changed things!

Hope everyone is well!

HopefulB · 09/06/2021 10:07

It’s the day the maternity unit release their monthly stats…. There’s been a whopper (13lbs) last 2 months!!

@Daffodil21 none on my belly (yet) think the ones on my hips (from teenage growth) have got a bit more pronounced- but not terrible.

I’m getting worried about work and handover - no proper cover has been approved so I’m now trying to sort out some sort of cost neutral fudge that won’t be awful for my team Confused

Inmypjsagain · 09/06/2021 11:13

@PurplePansy05 he’s got good taste already!

@Daffodil21 not for me yet but I think this could be an advantage of a small bump, it’s not grown much yet. Are they itchy?

@Smurf123 aw, good you’ve got yourself a book worm!

@HopefulB 13 lbs?! Oh my goodness. That makes me want to cross my legs!

PurplePansy05 · 09/06/2021 11:47

13 lbs actually scares me 🙈 The MW said they're expecting my son to be around 8lbs, I can't imagine 13 🙈

No stretchmarks on my bump/thighs/bum, but the skin on my chest/breasts started looking a bit stretched few weeks ago. I've been putting cream over this area, I hope it regains some flexibility xx
