I think you can "scald" high-lipase milk to make it store a bit better, but no experience with that.

wimbler · 05/07/2021 21:20

@BertieBotts yes you can but it was only once I tried giving my defrosted milk that I realised and by then it was too late! Probably couldn’t be bothered with all the extra hassle involved in that either!

PurplePansy05 · 05/07/2021 21:48

I read online Raynaud's can cause issues with BF too and I can quite easily imagine how it happens, it takes a split second for the pain to kick in and I'm bending over trying to go through it, it's crazy. My MW and consultant completely ignored it when I told them and asked if BF could be an issue Hmm

I saw Lansinoh does some warming pads and also there's an option to take antibiotics if it gets really bad (safe for the baby). I'm still hopeful it will move back to my feet/hands post-partum though! xx

Ready2020 · 05/07/2021 22:49

Ugh had a rubbish day at work. My last day is tomorrow and my manager is off so his manager was asking me to do all sorts that I wasn't expecting. She was a bit peeved on the phone when I told her I've only got a half day tomorrow due to midwife appointment and vaccine. Can't wait to finish!

I got a John Lewis voucher for £110 from work though so I think I'll use that on a pump but we'll see what it's like when she's here, whether I can breast feed or not. I got the Tommy Tippe steriliser and bottle warmer thing from sister in law but need new bottles (she did give me some but I think new ones might be better).

My hips have been really bad the last week or so. Sitting on the office chair has been quite sore at times. Using the ball helps a bit. But sometimes even walking around the house is difficult!

wimbler · 06/07/2021 08:14

@PurplePansy05 I’ve had terrible raynauds in my nipples when pregnant both times. It was gone pretty much as soon as I gave birth and I had no issues with breastfeeding other then the initial 2 weeks where I had the same feeling with the first few minutes of each feed (but that’s relatively normal!) Is it something you’ve had pre pregnancy? Hopefully it’s just a pregnancy symptom like mine was!

PurplePansy05 · 06/07/2021 08:31

@wimbler Oh really! That's interesting and I'm hoping for the same outcome! Well, I've always had cold hands and feet since childhood and they have the tendency to go pale/bluish in the cold. Always slept in socks, needed gloves in October etc. But it didn't affect my life much. It's far, far worse in pregnancy as it switched to my nipples, incomparable! xx

wimbler · 06/07/2021 09:36

@PurplePansy05 I’m the same, I have terrible circulation and get awful problems in my hands and feet!

lucyrp · 06/07/2021 10:18

Just been for my 34 week appointment and had to see a different midwife to my usual one because mine had been out on call all night. Had my measurement taken and had a bit of a leap so currently waiting in the waiting room to go for a growth scan 😬😬😬

wimbler · 06/07/2021 11:12

@lucyrp hope all goes ok. I’ve got a scan this afternoon too and meeting with the consultant to sign me off for a vbac

PurplePansy05 · 06/07/2021 11:47

I'm also back from my MW and hospital appts, the MWwas talking me through BF techniques, I can't quite believe we're at this stage now 😱
I won't be seeing her again till after the birth, my appointments will be at the hospital now. The 36 week one is next week, growth scan, diabetes specialist, consultant, all sorts, and they'll be arranging planned section then I believe. I struggled to park for an hour at the hospital today, it was something else 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

Smurf123 · 06/07/2021 12:27

I had a growth scan this morning too. Baby measuring well and apparently head down. Come back in 2 weeks again where they will possibly do a sweep.. I'll be 37w 4 days then.. They were happy to wait an extra week to 38w 4 but I'd prefer to be seen in 2 weeks to make sure everything heading right direction.
Estimated weight today was 5lb 7

Ready2020 · 06/07/2021 13:15

36 week appointment today. Was fairly quick in and out. Measured at 35, baby's head is down, all tests were clear from last visit. They took another blood sample to check my iron seeing as I've had issues with that. She went over some things but I felt good that I knew it. I'll bring my birth plan over next appointment in 2 weeks.

It did all feel a bit relaxed for being at 36 weeks but I guess I've still got time yet!

biscuitcat · 06/07/2021 16:21

@lucyrp hope your growth scan has gone well xx

I really wish I was finished work already - I added up and I have 12 working days left but easily 15 or 16 days of work to do in that time 😓 feeling totally knackered now!

lucyrp · 06/07/2021 16:33

Baby was measuring at 5 pounds 9 ounces at 34+1 😳 head down and back in a good place for labour so that's all good, my fluid was 4.5 which she said is fine as that's supposed to be between 2-8cm.

Also wishing I'd finished work earlier but will be thankful of the time off with baby after

Daffodil21 · 06/07/2021 17:28

So many appointments today! Glad they all seem to have gone well 🥰

I went to collect some sample pots today and my lovely midwife did have a quick feel to check his position - he isn't breech which is a relief. He's head down thankfully. She had to feel a lot lower than last week so I wouldn't be surprised if he's engaged, but she didn't say so, so maybe not.

I went on my group walk this morning and two of the women commented that my bump has dropped 😱 came back and compared photos and it definitely has. Mentioned it to my midwife who said that's nonsense and doesn't mean anything?!

Got a video antenatal class tomorrow with other locals which I'm looking forward to.

Hope everyone is well xx

Sounds like everyone's busy with appointments and scans today!

I've been to GP about incessant diarrhoea which is taking over my life and making me miserable. Haven't been to work since Friday because of this constant cramps and needing to be in very close proximity to the loo. Anyway Dr was very concerned about my heart rate which is really high, so sent me for bloods and an ECG. Also sent off urine and stool samples so hopefully we'll be a bit cleverer in the next couple of days...

I wish i'd already started my maternity leave!! Got another couple of weeks to go but lets see how it all goes with this bloomin' diarrhoea business... Might just have to do some extra days to finish off my workload.

lucyrp · 06/07/2021 18:04

@Daffodil21 my bump has definitely dropped this last week too 🙈

HopefulB · 06/07/2021 19:04

Glad to hear everyone’s appointments going well. I had a good chat with Consultant today and have growth scan Thursday.

wimbler · 06/07/2021 19:24

Had my scan today at 36+5 and they estimated baby is 6lb 7oz! Almost exactly what my daughter weighed at the same time so Hoping for a similarly sized baby this time round. Spoke to the consultant too and She’s happy with my vbac wishes but I’ve booked an induction for 40+11 if I’ve not gone into labour naturally. She also booked me 3 sweeps starting just before my due date. It suddenly feels very real!!!

PurplePansy05 · 06/07/2021 21:12

Hope all is OK @Ava50x, glad they're checking everything. Let us know when you have the results.

@Daffodil21 My MW said today that it means nothing if the bump has dropped, as in it could very well be that the baby will arrive on their due date or overdue. Apparently it's not a sign of approaching labour.

My son is moving so much this evening! It feels like there's very little space left, my bump feels so stretched! I think I may have had some Braxton Hicks pains too, although not majorly strong. Pelvis still under immense pressure and it will probably stay this way now! xx

PurplePansy05 · 07/07/2021 07:51

Ah girls, epic fail 😔 My diet management has stopped working, unfortunately fasting glucose levels are too high now and I'll have to go on metformin 😔 MW said there's nothing I could have done differently, it's just very high hormone levels right now. I am so upset 😔 xx

alittlexmasmagic · 07/07/2021 08:09

@PurplePansy05 seems to me you've managed it perfectly. A situation moved out of your control (diet) and you noticed, put in extra measures (metformin) and therefore have brought it back. You haven't slacked on anything so really can't blame yourself xx

PurplePansy05 · 07/07/2021 08:21

I know, MW said that to me when she called yesterday morning. She said if today's first reading is above the limit I should start the neds tonight, and it is. She said I couldn't do more, it's all hormones. But you just can't help but think I shouldn't have eaten the 2 cubes of watermelon last night or whatever. I know it's ridiculous and it doesn't depend on me, but it feels like a failure. My body just can't do pregnancy in a smooth way, I'm not well geared up for any stage of it and it upsets me. I'm also upset I'll be using meds that go through the placenta to my son, I really wanted to avoid this because no one really knows the long term outcomes. xx

alittlexmasmagic · 07/07/2021 08:33

@PurplePansy05 try switching your viewpoint. What would the long term effects be if you didn't take the meds? Those 2 cubes of watermelon, a very healthy addition to a balanced diet. Would it be as healthy if you omitted everything with natural sugars.
I pretty much sailed through my first pregnancy but the second was tough, setting the score for this one meaning I'm an anxious overanalysing mess. I'm trying to avoid thinking in the negative because it does no good. Just cross every bridge as it comes x

Daffodil21 · 07/07/2021 09:11

@PurplePansy05 metformin is used lots throughout pregnancy - it's also a treatment for pcos. I was prescribed it from a private consultant to take all the way through pregnancy. I haven't taken it this time as I was trying to limit how much I was taking compared to the massive cocktail of drugs last time, but I didnt have any side effects from it and I wasn't worried about the idea of taking it throughout pregnancy. Taking it is not being a failure, I've had to take drugs through this pregnancy that I wasn't happy about either, but if you need them to have a healthy outcome then it's worth it. Not long to go now anyway! X
