@PurplePansy05 sorry to hear about the GD! You sound really positive though, and at least its only for a few short weeks...

With regards to OH's as birth partners, don't worry if yours doesn't seem too interested at this point. Many will step up and take their role very seriously- for others it can be quite challenging. My DH finds my births stressful and traumatic, seeing me in pain but not actually able to make it stop.

With my last, I hired a doula specifically to advocate for me, leaving DH to support me and do whatever he felt comfortable doing. I understand this isn't for everyone but it worked very well for us and we'll be doing it again for this birth.

PurplePansy05 · 24/06/2021 12:46

@Ava50x Thanks. It's interesting to read they all approach it rather reluctantly or not at all. I am finding this weird tbh, it's their child too?? I don't know. Just not what I expected.

I wanted him and my mum at birth, but can't have them both because of covid. Anyway, a large part of this might become redundant for me with a C-sec on the cards! xx

Ava50x · 24/06/2021 13:05

@PurplePansy05 I think because at this point its still rather abstract for them, it just doesn't hold the same fascination/obsession as for us- who will be experiencing it in a short while.

I'm lucky that in my trust they currently let two birth partners so my plan will work for me.

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 13:05

I am also wondering how you’ve all gained so little weight? I must be near a 3 stone gain now and I’m not weighing myself, it could be more. This is after vomiting 20 times a day for 5 months and my diet not changing, if anything I eat less cos I feel crap.

Birth partners- ugh I was frustrated with my husbands lack of interest too but I think the nearer we get the more involved he is. Nct definitely helped this, I don’t know if course content is all the same? But they do talk about Labour and pain relief, we had to research about it and present to the group. The leader split us up and the women had to say what we wanted at birth, the men had to put in the WhatsApp group what they would do support and we went through them as group to discuss. So it kind of facilitated it? My husband isn’t the type to order a book and ask 100 questions so nct has actually been good for that. I’d say it’s worth writing a birth plan together. Nct has also helped me see if I can’t get a c section I really don’t want forceps used- he knows this now so can say no if I’m a useless mess!

@PurplePansy05 ugh sorry about GD! Good it’s caught and can be managed but not going to be fun x

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 13:13

Sorry im working backwards @lucyrp you don’t bleed at night! Am so jealous! Honestly periods cost me fortune cos I’m using both tampons and pads but I’d hate to think of the mess if I didn’t 🙈

Whatshouldbemyusername · 24/06/2021 13:37

@PurplePansy05 my love sorry about GD. But as everyone said you're positive about what comes next and what you need to do so just keep that up.

Also re DH being more involved maybe talk to him. Not in a confrontational way but perhaps "let's watch a birthing video together so we know what could be happening and our expectations around it". Maybe that approach may work? All the best with it.

I have my 32 week scan on Monday so will know how big baby is. I've put on 9kgs since the start of pregnancy but my BMI was 19 at the start of pregnancy and I think mainly have put weight on boobs and bump. Not that I'm worried that way. I have been eating mostly healthy except for a few cravings here abs there. I'm also vegetarian so maybe that's another reason I've not put on that much. Then again that's a myth too as it does depend on body types doesn't it.

I had to call in sick this morning and just logged in at 1 pm. I had really bad reflux last night and was just feeling totally run down! On the bright side I got my waterwipes multi pack of 18 delivered from prime day 😀x

lucyrp · 24/06/2021 13:45

Had my car seat delivered today and collecting a carrier this evening then my pram is being collected for cleaning on Monday 🥰

@PurplePansy05 yes definitely better to know that not to know!

@Daffodil21 I have up on the scales after 12 weeks but then worried I was indulging too much so got them back out and trying to make sure I don't go too over the top. I haven't actually gained enough according to the pampers weight gain calculator so it's not necessarily a good thing 🙈

@Inmypjsagain i can't remember what mine were like before DS but ibe only ever used regular of super tampons the yellow and green never an orange, sometimes the green are too much too as when it comes to a change they're too dry to pull out. Tmi! Since I was on the depot they have been light too. Maybe yours will change post partum!

Ava50x · 24/06/2021 14:49

In need of a bit of a moan.
Feeling extremely knackered at the moment, literally too exhausted to function. Just spend 15 minutes in the disabled loo with my head down on the toilet bar. I am just not managing.
In need of some encouragement. I don't know how i'm supposed to get through the rest of this day!

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 15:02

9kgs in the whole pregnancy, I’m so jealous. I can’t even remember my bmi now, I think at booking it was 18.4 or something, underweight (just) and I’ve ballooned!

@lucyrp wow! Hope mine get better! And I think there’s no such thing as tmi on this thread

@Ava50x so sorry to hear this! Any consolation I have taken a sick day today because I did not think could get out of bed. Exhausted is an understatement. I’m sorry I know that’s not encouraging but you’re not alone. This even makes first trimester tiredness seem not that bad- I’ve been Googling 33 week exhaustion all day!

lucyrp · 24/06/2021 15:19

@Ava50x I have 6 days in a row to work starting next Friday and I've already decided one of those days I will be calling in sick because there's no way I can manage that. I can't manage one or two days together let alone 6😨

@Inmypjsagain my bmi was something like 26 I think at my booking appointment so very nearly over weight 😬 fingers crossed for you ! X

Whatshouldbemyusername · 24/06/2021 15:37

@Inmypjsagain ah babe I still have 8 plus weeks to go so trust me will be hitting 13-15 kgs! 🤣🤣🙄

Literally too tired today. Just want to put my feet up and watch Big Bang theory all day.

Also my reflux is back so I'm back in the club 🥺

PurplePansy05 · 24/06/2021 16:12

Aww girls! It just seems things have got a fair bit harder now for all of us, but it's the final stretch 🙏Flowers We're in this together, like for the last 8 months...just a little bit longer and things will get literally lighter and less physically demanding! I know having a newborn won't be a holiday, but the current struggles will pass, I keep telling this to mysrlf to survive! xx

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 16:22

@lucyrp 6 days In a row? Just reading that has made me exhausted! At least 1 sick day I’d say 😂

@Whatshouldbemyusername i still have 7 days weeks to go though… I feel like I’m turning into a whale. Maybe a big old cow more appropriate cos if the udders 😂 hope gaviscon helps the reflux!

@PurplePansy05 wow 8 months. We really are nearly there. But I worry this is a taste of tiredness to come? In which case I am going to have to get back onto coffee. Maybe pro plus like the uni days…!!!

Is anyone else getting aches in their bump now? It’s not twinges but it’s almost like my bones hurt- my ribs and my hips? Feels so weird

PurplePansy05 · 24/06/2021 16:26

@Inmypjsagain I've stocked up on my favourite Illy's on Amazon Prime day Grin Bye, bye, decaf! I hate it! Luckily can still have normal coffee even post-GD times, yay! ❤🙏 xx

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 16:33

@PurplePansy05 oh I should have bought then too! Illy my favourite. The smell of coffee made me sick though so I’m worried I’ll be off it, but needs must! I also can’t wait to have some sushi. And Brie. And a glass of wine. Ohhh a Brie and cranberry sandwich would be good.

Sorry for my ignorance, I didn’t realise GD would impact post baby too- in that you had to watch diet etc after. A friend had a baby last Dec and her GD cleared and as far as I know no issues after, so hopefully itll be okay, but I’m off to google more about it!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 24/06/2021 16:40

Ladies I haven't found any good unisex cardigans and newborn hat for baby.

Any recommendations x

Daffodil21 · 24/06/2021 16:45

@Inmypjsagain yes to a glass of wine!!

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 24/06/2021 16:45

@Whatshouldbemyusername I bought mine from M&S and Next 😊

@Inmypjsagain It will likely clear post-partum, yes. Sometimes it might take longer though and some women are left with type 2 diabetes although rarely. I am more so thinking about the fact I'll be more prone to have type 2 diabetes generally now. Apparently half of women who had GD go on to have type 2 later in life, within 10-15 years. I don't want to have it, so I'll be a bit smarter with my choices in general. I like cake and ice cream occasionally, but I'm a savoury person, so I'll have to watch salt and potatoes which I do like in particular xx

Ready2020 · 24/06/2021 16:54

Thankfully the stomach has quietened down a bit now. No more D so far. I'm sure it's coming though 😂

We're still away in Crieff on our hols but away home tomorrow. Went for a swim today so feeling kinda tired. It's the first swim I've done since being pregnant and it was so weird getting out the pool and feeling all the weight back on you.

My OH is the sort who will never question the authority of the Drs/midwives, he's another wet blanket 😂 I'm far more assertive at these things so do worry that he'll just roll over with whatever they suggest. The hypnobirthing classes have been good to show him that there are things that I want but I will always put baby first so if they say I need to do something as she is in distress I'll not disagree for the sake of it. He's asked me what I want but has admitted that he's been a bit distant about a lot of it as he's just scared. He's coming around a bit more now though.

As long as he's there to cuddle me and remind me not to panic then we'll be OK.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2021 17:03

Next and M&S usually have adorable little knitted cardigans in neutral colours.

PurplePansy05 · 24/06/2021 17:51

@Whatshouldbemyusername Check out Matalan and H&M too, these will be my next round of purchases xx

Inmypjsagain · 24/06/2021 18:01

@Daffodil21 I’m looking forward to a glass of wine. I promise I don’t have a problem, but on a sunny Sunday I’ve really missed a nice alcoholic beverage. I have no idea why I want Brie so much, I normally only ever ate it at Christmas!

@PurplePansy05 I read up on the nhs website and i had no idea! Very much hoping yours will clear after birth and you’ll be more no susceptible! You sound really sensible anyway so I imagine you’ll make good choices as you say, at least it’s something you can be conscious of too.

@Ready2020 glad your stomach seems to have settled, hope it stays that way.

Oh so many cute clothes! Must start buying things. Still haven’t got a hospital bag sorted despite having good intentions

biscuitcat · 24/06/2021 18:04

@Whatshouldbemyusername I'd also recommend M&S and Next, as well as John Lewis, their baby basics range (Anyday I think it's called) is excellent!

How many cardigans are you ladies buying? I wasn't sure how many would be necessary.

@Inmypjsagain definitely getting an achy bump! My pregnancy support belt arrived today and I think it does make a difference - I just went for one on Amazon with lots of good reviews and not too expensive, but it looks like you can spend anything on them!

@PurplePansy05 do you know until you said it I never twigged how long these threads have been going on! It's been so reassuring having all you ladies to chat to, run things by, and moan with xx

lucyrp · 24/06/2021 18:11

@Inmypjsagain I know disgusting isn't it! 😩

@biscuitcat I've only got 1 newborn and 1 up to 1 month but have an array of home knitted cardigans that my great auntie knitted for DS so thought I'd try not to buy too many and get use out of those. I actually haven't bought much stuff this time round as waiting until they're born to see what they are and then if it's a girl will have to buy a few bits !
