I never thought a fan would be needed... I'm rethinking that plan as I sit here... It's roasting!

Thanks @BertieBotts I'm feeling movements which is reassuring so fingers crossed.
I got some lovely babygrows in next this morning.. With little elephants and rainbows 🙂 they really did have some lovely things in store.

marionbot · 18/06/2021 09:49

@Smurf123 I'm stressed out by this! Are they that similar to real contractions? First time here and I don't know what to expect at all ahah, is it like bad period cramps?

Hope you're doing okay though!

Smurf123 · 18/06/2021 10:31

@marionbot they haven't confirmed that they are definitely braxton hicks. I was in until about 2am last night. The ctg monitor showed the "tightenings" as they called them. they were showing fairly regularly but not intense except the last one, but it wasn't as strong as I had felt earlier in the day before starting the ctg. Still getting them off and on and feel quite nauseous this morning though maybe that's just lack of sleep 🙈
They have told me to come back if the more intense ones start to come more frequently than hourly which is what it currently is.
I'm thankful baby is moving around lots as that's reassuring for me and the heartbeat was good on the ctg throughout.

BertieBotts · 18/06/2021 11:26

Braxton Hicks don't hurt, not at this stage. They just feel a bit weird and tight. As you get closer to labour they do get a bit more intense but always manageable IME.

PurplePansy05 · 18/06/2021 12:15

Quickly as I know many of you have kindly signed Tommy's petition regarding improvements in miscarriage care which I posted about several threads ago (thank you again!): the Parliament has debated it yesterday afternoon and it's been a huge success. With over 170k signatures in just a few weeks, it's been confirmed that a 24/7 access to dedicated care post-miscarriage will be introduced and that the RCOG will be reviewing its guidelines with a likely new recommendations following The Lancet study to introduce additional support after 1 miscarriage, testing after 2 consecutive losses and automatic consultant-led care after 3. I know this fight isn't over yet and things will take time and won't be perfect, but what a huge improvement on the horizon and weight lifted off all our shoulders - our children and/or their partners will have better care. I and some of us on here have missed out on it which makes me feel quite emotional today, but what a relief the next generation hopefully won't have to go through the same heartache.

I know there are more of us for whom this is a very close topic - if you wish to read the debate, it's available here (quite an emotional read):

So are Braxton Hicks when bump goes hard/tense? Feeling a bit clueless….

I hope you & bump are ok @Smurf123, it’s always an anxious time when there’s not a definitive answer.

I made it to the dentist today! First time in over 2 years due to house move, covid and then optimistically looking for an NHS Dentist….

BertieBotts · 18/06/2021 13:03

Yes if it's not caused by something else - for example orgasm will cause your womb to contract but that's not braxton hicks, it's just a contraction caused by orgasm (perfectly safe).

Braxton Hicks are thought to be the body's way of preparing/"practising" for labour. So they do increase in intensity towards the end. Sometimes you can have loads of them in the days leading up to labour - that's why for labour contractions need to be regular/consistent.

HopefulB · 18/06/2021 13:19

Thank you @BertieBotts.

Thanks for sharing debate also @PurplePansy05, I agree a positive and much overdue step forwards.

Smurf123 · 18/06/2021 13:47

I'm still getting them today.. So it's been off and on for about 3 days now. Since 9 this morning they have been every 30-45 mins or there abouts as I started to keep a bit of track of them.
If someone could just say yup definitely braxton hicks I could stop worrying.

Daffodil21 · 18/06/2021 13:59

@PurplePansy05 very pleased to see this although I have to say I'm not going to watch it, I'll just see the outcome highlights afterwards. The lancet study was a bit unpleasant to read while pregnant, but I had always sort of assumed that was the case anyway. I just hope the findings find their way to the consults to look at ways to deal with it.

@Smurf123 how worrying for you ❤️ I hope they are keeping a close eye on you x

@Smurf123 Are you going to go back for a check up? Thinking of you Flowers

I put myself a reminder to check if the NCT refund for moving the course online has come through and it hasn't. I emailed them and they said in response that WorldPay is having issues with refunding their courses, it takes 2 months apparently so they now do it via BACS instead and require account details etc. Apparently they emailed me a week ago - only they haven't Hmm Very annoyed at this. Thought I'd share, you might want to check if you've had your money back. xx

PurplePansy05 · 18/06/2021 14:13

@Daffodil21 Understandable Flowers Just to say, it's not a video link, only the transcript. I've not watched it yesterday either, think they weren't even sure what time it would be on. It's a step in the right direction, finally 🙏 xx

wimbler · 18/06/2021 14:33

@Smurf123 I hope you are ok. are the tightenings painless? I get braxton hicks about 10 times a day, more when I'm dehydrated or very active but since that's normal for me I don't worry too much.

Just remember if you are concerned, there's no harm in going back in to be checked. The midwives are usually very supportive of getting anything checked out when you feel something isn't quite right and would always rather you came in for something turns out to be nothing.

Ready2020 · 18/06/2021 15:24

Hope things are going OK @Smurf123

I've just booked my first covid vaccine for 6 July. I'm quite nervous about it tbh as I wasn't going to get it until after she's out but with cases going up I think I'd feel better with it.

A pile of clothes arrived from the links put up by @BertieBotts (I think) they are so so cute.

Due August 2021 - Third Trimester!
alittlexmasmagic · 18/06/2021 15:27

@Ready2020 I've bought the green polka dot one too. I love that colour. Also bought this yellow set from M&S but might go get the green too x

I wrote a long reply then somehow lost it. 🙈
Thank you all! @PurplePansy05 yes i came back over so on monitor now. Baby's heartrate is good. Which is most important.
I'm probably panicking without need to buy when the cramps come they are sore. Not excruciating or anything but enough for me to feel a little nauseous at times.
I just want them to tell me is normal and it's fine.
I think given history I'll probably worry until baby is here 🙈

marionbot · 18/06/2021 15:33

@Ready2020 ah will you let us know how it goes? I could book mine but one of the midwife I saw wasn't really reassuring so I figured with only 2 months left and I'm not seeing much people anyways I might as well wait she's out... Such a hard choice

Ready2020 · 18/06/2021 15:34

@alittlexmasmagic I love that leaf one! Is that M&S?

Ready2020 · 18/06/2021 15:36

Oh clearly it is M and S as it's got a tag on it 🤦‍♀️

Smurf123 · 18/06/2021 15:38

I love the zip up baby grows.. So much easier than buttons!! Looks like some lovely one there!

Ready2020 · 18/06/2021 15:38

@marionbot I know I've agonised over it but I thought I'll only have 4 weeks ish left so she's as developed as she can be and will no doubt get the vaccine sometime in her life. I just don't want to get a fever or anything after it. Or a clot!

The receptionist at the doctors I registered at last week was surprised I was asking about getting it as she said pregnant women just shouldn't get it!

PurplePansy05 · 18/06/2021 15:39

I get it @Smurf123. Would you push for a scan, e.g. to exclude any issues with the placenta? I'm thinking out loud cause I don't in fact know what it is that might be making you feel this way. But if it doesn't go away, I think I'd be asking for a scan. I think it's important for you to stay as calm as possible now and this would likely give you that reassurance. Do you have any growth scans scheduled soon anyway? xx

PurplePansy05 · 18/06/2021 15:43

@Ready2020 Oh the know-it-all receptionists, eyeroll! 🙄 You'd be given the Pfizer vaccine which has no known clotting concerns. Any fever would be short-lived anyway. Please don't be too worried. My reasoning for having it was similar to yours (had it at 29 weeks) and I'm glad I did. Think I mentioned before, no side effects at all here, unlike after the flu jab which surprisingly flattened me in the first trimester. xx

marionbot · 18/06/2021 15:43

@Ready2020 I think it depends if you get the "official" advice or their personal, a month ago I was adamant I would get the vaccine as soon as it'd be available to people my age, then this midwife gave me her personal opinion which was "it's safe for you, but we don't have any data on the babies" and it had me freak out... I might still change my mind by then lol
