@alittlexmasmagic I'm only 24 this year so feel so sad thinking I have at least another 30 years of this to think about 😩 I have thought about the coil too, but unsure how I feel about checking the strings 🤢

biscuitcat · 16/06/2021 21:15

We were using Natural Cycles before TTC (after a good 10 years on the pill) which I really liked, it made me feel very in tune with my body. Our plan is condoms until baby's sleep is such that I get enough sleep to use Natural Cycles again (need a good 4 hour stretch for the temperature to settle I think) and then once we're done with children, think about DH getting the snip, but that's likely to be a few years away yet. I don't think I'd want to use hormonal contraception again now

BertieBotts · 16/06/2021 21:30

Just come across this which is the virtual baby show this weekend. Basic tickets are free so you might as well sign up (probably use a spam catcher email) - I don't know that the other tiers will be worth it but worth a look anyway!

Ready2020 · 16/06/2021 21:54

I tried so many different pills but none suited me. Various side effects. I had the copper coil for about 4 years before removing it to try and conceive. It did cause some heavy periods but for the most part I forgot it was there. It was amazing. The strings disappeared about 6 months after I got it put in but a scan showed it had just moved up a bit so every so often I'd get a scan to make sure it hadn't fallen out. Though tbh I would have happily tried to conceive before we did so I wasn't too fussed about getting it checked 😂😬

We'll probably use condoms too until I get the coil put back in. Though that would require having sex and I'm not sure how soon that will start up again!

The thought of going back to periods is a bit depressing though.

MM1993 · 16/06/2021 22:17

I've had 2 implants so 6 years of them. Initially I bled continuously for months, headaches, acne etc then eventually it all settled down. My implant expired so I had it removed on 6th Nov 20, had a period on the 15th Nov then got pregnant on 30th Nov !! Was not a planned pregnancy but here we are 😂

I had the pill years ago but could only be on the mini pill due to migraines and it wasn't for me. Think I'll prob have another implant put in after birth however not sure I can deal with the initial side effects again !

PurplePansy05 · 16/06/2021 23:29

Tbh I'd be happy not to have a single period ever again! Shame they're needed to TTC again! Mine were always horrendous, but post MCs they were topped up with PMDD every single cycle. 😔 I am really hopeful my hormones will eventually be more balanced post-pregnancy and also hope not to have my periods back too soon! Not missed at all! xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/06/2021 23:33

Like @MM1993 I had the implant for 9 years so three times. The first one was great. Second time I used to get occasional bleeds in between and after I took that off I took a year break and went back to it. The third one however was the worst I was pretty much bleeding all the time and had severe headaches. I had to take it out before time which was in October and in Nov I was pregnant.

Defo need to decide what to use but I just can't think of any that I want at the moment! Perhaps will cross that bridge when there

lucyrp · 17/06/2021 06:26

@biscuitcat I used bbt when ttc to get pregnant so I am interested in using it for the opposite effect so natural cycles but like you say know that's impossible until I'm getting proper sleep again

PurplePansy05 · 17/06/2021 07:00

@lucyrp I feel for you, at 24 I had similar thoughts re contraception, a lifetime of it left. It does feel better now that I'm a decade older I must say, especially that menopause tends to start in mid-40s in my family. The only thing I would say is that perhaps it would make it easier not to look at it as one huge block of time of 20-30 years. The reality is that you will need end up using various methods throughout that time. You can stay away from hormonal contraception although longer term options are probably limited to coil etc. then. Still, something to consider until you and your partner feel your family is complete and then perhaps a snip? Condoms for now until your cycles return if you need added security? xx

BertieBotts · 17/06/2021 07:04

You might get a longer break from periods if you breastfeed! I didn't get mine back until 18 months with DC1. Only 4 months with DC2 but i was mixed feeding.

HopefulB · 17/06/2021 08:10

Morning all!
So glad it’s cooler today, although it was a really humid night here, so didn’t sleep well at all.

@lucyrp, I had several Mirena Coil’s back to back - they’re not for everyone, but because the hormone release is local there are a lot less side effects than depo, pill, patch, or implant. Effects also gone quickly when removed. Best thing for me was no periods!

marionbot · 17/06/2021 09:12

@lucyrp @PurplePansy05
I was on the pill for 12 years non-stop before stopping, got pregnant after two months off, never going back to it, to put it simply, I had worse symptoms on the pill (headaches, mood swings of hell, fluctuating libido, hot flashes...) than in those 7 months of pregnancy, and I'm pretty sure that says a lot!!! It'll be condoms from now on! (and following my cycles to avoid the riskiest days)

notinthestarsigns · 17/06/2021 09:42

I’ve also been worrying about contraception after the baby is here already! Before I got pregnant with my first baby who we lost last year I had been on the pill for years with no problems, but after the birth I was told I couldn’t go back on that pill and that if I should take the mini pill instead, which I did for a few months but I didn’t like it at all and would never go back on it. Ideally I would like to go back on the pill I was always on before but I’m not entirely sure why I was told I couldn’t go back on it last year! I don’t want to take any chances though, having been pregnant for 5 months last year and then suffer a loss, this pregnancy has really taken it out of me and the thought of another pregnancy after this baby is a scary one!

Has anyone else been suffering with itching? I have for the past couple of days and was up for hours with it in the night. I text the midwife this morning and I’ve been booked in for bloods on Monday to check it’s not Obstretic Cholestasis (I think I’ve spelt that right!).

PurplePansy05 · 17/06/2021 09:58

@notinthestarsigns Are you itching in any specific areas & is it intense? My friend who had cholestatis was really suffering, I think it was hands and feet in particular, but it was another level of itchiness from what she described. Might it be the heat and sweating or dry skin? Beginning of eczema? These could all be related to your hormones? I had major itching on one of my thighs and only now figured out it was my pants getting tight on the left side and my sweaty skin rubbing in as I was sleeping. Glorious 🤣 xx

notinthestarsigns · 17/06/2021 10:03

@PurplePansy05 my hands and feet are particularly bad which is why I thought I best get it checked out. I’ve been awake since 4am with it 😩 it sounds itching can be quite common in third trimester just due to hormones like you say so hopefully it’s nothing but best to be safe than sorry.

PurplePansy05 · 17/06/2021 10:29

@notinthestarsigns Get it checked out then, but hopefully it's not cholestatis. It would be late for it anyway I think, I remember my friend's started gradually in the second trimester, as early as 16 weeks. So fingers crossed it's just hormonal xx

wimbler · 17/06/2021 10:45

@notinthestarsigns that's good you're getting checked! My friend had cholestatis come on late in 3rd trimester

marionbot · 17/06/2021 10:47

@notinthestarsigns Ah it was the minipill I was on for 12y, I didn't even know the normal pill could have a different effect, you say you felt better on the normal one than on the mini?

notinthestarsigns · 17/06/2021 10:53

@marionbot, yes I never had any problems on the normal pill. I had regular periods, but they were light and rarely painful, and I didn’t find I had any side effects so apart from the hassle of taking a pill each day I had no issues with it really.

Daffodil21 · 17/06/2021 16:56

My friends have organised a surprised baby shower tomorrow night (I saw a message pop up on my mums phone 😂)

I AM FREAKING OUT!

Sh*t is getting real isn't it 😂

@Daffodil21 ah that so lovely enjoy! I had a surprise one for my first and it was lovely!

Caz1226 · 17/06/2021 17:23

Hi everyone
I’ve purchased a hand fan/ water spray and I can honestly say it’s amazing! It was only cheap on Amazon but very powerful and coming in very handy now and will be coming with me in my hospital bag
If anyone is struggling with the heat I highly recommend getting one xx

lucyrp · 17/06/2021 17:55

@Daffodil21 I had one last weekend and it was lovely 🥰 hope you have a nice time !

Smurf123 · 17/06/2021 21:14

How's everyone doing?
Currently sitting in admissions. Been having quite sore stomach cramps the past few days so they said to come over. Hopefully just braxton hicks but thought better to get checked out just in case. I don't think I had them with my son.

BertieBotts · 17/06/2021 21:22

Yes those hand held fans are amazing - totally worth it and I used mine constantly in labour. I will be getting another one ASAP just to take around and annoy people with on public transport :o I don't like any of the ones I can see on amazon though - I want one that takes AA / AAA batteries!

Hope everything is OK Smurf
