I also think it's the heat. I have to say, now that I'm off, I walked 12k steps yesterday, including on the beach, and the cool water was blissful, no swelling! Whereas when I'm home because I move less and don't cool my feet doen, they do swell up. I think the fact we've all noticed it at the same time shows it's unlikely to be anything sinister, just the sudden heat xx

PurplePansy05 · 15/06/2021 09:23

Ah yes that sounds like an overkill with so many courses @Ready2020, they're tiring too! I was looking for courses in my area but there's nothing else than NCT going on atm, so I think we'll have to stick to it, but I had many thoughts as to how many other useful things we could do instead of sitting for two full Sundays on Zoom in an unfinished house and in this heat 🙄 xx

Daffodil21 · 15/06/2021 09:26

@PurplePansy05 interesting - I found the opposite! When I was walking around in the heat my legs and feet were HUGE but the last couple of days I've been mostly just chilling at home with my feet up on a chair and they've gone down thankfully

@PurplePansy05 the content was ok, it was only the first session though but there was talk of our inner cat? It was mainly focused on labour, I didn’t learn anything new and had to pretend the stuffed toy was a baby and how to hand it over to your partner correctly which made me cringe. Tbh the content I expected to be a bit out there because I’d heard about nct being like that but it’s more the social element I was keen on. Eg talk of Labour didnt mention c sections because that’s considered a medical intervention and is covered under “when things go wrong”… I think ultimately a lot will come down to your group and also the course leader. At this stage I have no idea if the others in my group are local or what, if they’re due in august or July? I’m tempted to write in the group WhatsApp and see if anyone replies but I really don’t want to be that annoying person if no one else is there for meeting people and they’re really only there for the content! Next session on Thursday so let’s see. And sounds like biscuitcat is having a good experience- they’re meeting up and have mum and dads separate WhatsApp group. Also if your course is over 2 weekends, maybe having a longer day means spending more time with the others there might be more of a chance to chat and get to know people?

I’m with you all on the swelling, I look like the Michelin woman and it’s really uncomfortable. I slept with my legs up on 2 pillows but all that did was make my leg numb. I haven’t worn my wedding bands for the last 3 weeks because my fingers look like little sausages now and I’m worried the rings would get stuck!

alittlexmasmagic · 15/06/2021 09:35

@Inmypjsagain from my NCT group experience, it will swiftly become apparent who is there for social and who isn't. Definitely message introducing yourself and casting feelers out for who would like to meet up for a casual lunch etc. You've nothing to loose and loads to gain xx

HopefulB · 15/06/2021 10:35

@Inmypjsagain,
Message the WhatsApp group! Our facilitator asked as all to do an intro post with a photo, which has been really useful for remembering who’s who. My group seem all seem to be set on meeting up which is great! There’s been 3 weekend beer garden meet ups during the 6 week course, another planned for this week and a BBQ planned for the last weekend before any of us are due (at the house closest to the hospital we are all planning to give birth in!).
To some extent it’ll be what you make of it….. if no one makes the first step to be sociable then you’ll only get content.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2021 10:43

Ready you could probably push for more of a refund due to the fact it was advertised as in person but is now on zoom? Not sure. Things aren't really normal ATM.'

Smurf totally agree it's not appropriate for them to be isolating in your house. SIL and BIL are looking at coming in late Aug/early Sep but want to book into a hotel. They are also both vaccinated so very low risk. But they probably won't come at all if they need to isolate first because it would be too long of a trip in total.

WinterBaby welcome back! That sounds really nerve wracking but good they have been able to put the stitch in. Does that mean you are having loads of check ups? Apparently the survival rate of babies born from now onwards is really really good so that is hopefully reassuring although nobody wants to give birth too early of course.

Smurf here are my baby shopping picks :o

Primark always has really nice neutral bits as well but they don't have a proper website.

Ready2020 · 15/06/2021 11:10

@BertieBotts you just made me spend £30 in H and M 😂😂 I couldn't resist the vegetables then just kept looking. So cute. I keep buying a range of sizes as we're meant to be going through the clothes we've been given and see where the gaps are.

Inmypjsagain · 15/06/2021 11:29

@alittlexmasmagic and @HopefulB thanks guys, I’ll message when I’m on lunch, worst that can happen is no one replies, but at least I’ve tried! Hopefulb-
Your group sounds great, so many meet ups! Hope ours follows suit!

lucyrp · 15/06/2021 12:51

@Whatshouldbemyusername it's not really noticeable as such but I always wear a thumb ring when not working and I popped it on for my MW appointment yesterday morning and it was so tight I had to take it off !

@Smurf123 yeah my BP is consistently fine too so definitely the heat is a big factor. I get the hard bits too and it's defo their bum 🙈🙈 MW reckoned she could feel head down yesterday but still free not engaged.

@PurplePansy05 hoping that's the case! Although is definitely rather not have swollen feet. Not attractive 😂🤣 sandals are the way forward clearly xx

Smurf123 · 15/06/2021 17:23

@BertieBotts amazing finds!! My next basket is currently growing bigger as we speak! Love the rainbow striped Cardigan and the safari range!! Def going to get them. What size is everyone getting?? I was going to go for first size? I ordered some 0-3 months from pat pat ages ago but now it's arrived it looks quite big compared to newborn in tesco when I was looking.
I've managed to move my second vaccine appt forward so I'm getting it on Sunday. With the delta variant increasing I think it will be good to have it before baby arrives.

ame88 · 15/06/2021 17:32

Our NCT is still going ahead in person - we're in Essex and starting mid July. They ring last week to check it's ok!
It is quite bad how it varies isn't it?
Maybe with this push back from the government it will go online again...

lucyrp · 15/06/2021 18:14

@Smurf123 most things I've bought have been up to 1 month in size as its a nice middle size between newborn and 0-3

Inmypjsagain · 15/06/2021 19:14

Well no one’s replied so perhaps I should take the hint 😬 think I’m going to give peanut a proper go!

@ame88 it’s good it’s in person, I think that will
Make a difference (but of course each group is different and zoom is clearly working for some!) it is odd how some courses are face to face and some aren’t! Hope yours stays in person though and you get a good crowd 😊

BertieBotts · 15/06/2021 19:30

I find UK sizing confusing, but there are basically 2 sizes before 0-3 months.

0-3 months is the first size that they will fit in for any length of time (ie several months) but it is normally too baggy for babies at birth unless they come out really big. So I would get a full selection of clothes in this size, but nothing too summery, because it will likely be into Autumn by the time they are wearing it.

The two preceding sizes in Europe are labelled 50 (up to 50cm) or 56 (up to 56cm). (0-3 months is 62).

In the UK size 50 is sometimes labelled as Newborn, sometimes as First Size, sometimes as Tiny Baby.

Size 56 is sometimes called Newborn, or it's called 0-1 month.

I found that both size 50 and size 56 fit DS2 when he was born although the 50 stuff really only for a week or two. DS1 I don't remember 0-1 month existing as a size back then, but I found Newborn clothing was OK on him whereas 0-3 months was too big. DS2 was 52cm at birth - DS1 I have no idea as they don't measure them in the UK, but he was 3040g or 6lb 11oz. He has always been tall and skinny.

It's worth having some 50/56/Newborn sized clothing, but I would not buy anything expensive or special that you would be gutted if they wore it once and then it was too small. It's a great size to get second hand, because babies wear them for such a short period of time. I've combined all of my 50 and 56 size clothes and just consider them one single size category! Definitely no point buying a full set in each of 50 and 56 - they won't get worn.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2021 19:44

PatPat sizing is all over the place, so worth checking those against other clothes, and also washing as they can shrink on washing.

Smallbean27 · 15/06/2021 19:48

@Inmypjsagain I'm on peanut and am speaking to lots of ladies in my area. Although I probably won't meet up until after babies here. It's been really nice to chat to them, I would give it a go x

PurplePansy05 · 15/06/2021 20:03

How annoying @Inmypjsagain. But maybe they had a busy day/are on hols, give it a couple of days. If not, at least you tried, unlikd the rest of them!

@BertieBotts I bought that rainbow cardigan for my son and it's really nice IRL, I can recommend 😊 Also have the same safari sets for him as those you've picked 😊 xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/06/2021 20:06

@Inmypjsagain maybe we should all know where we're all from and also try meet. Like I'm from London and I live in Wembley Park.

Is there anyone in NW London? If not any Londoners here? We can then plan to meet in central or something after babies are here?

Likewise I feel ladies we should all share where we're from and have a little in person meet up when safe?x

biscuitcat · 15/06/2021 21:55

@BertieBotts your finds are always so good! The safari sleepsuits are just so cute 🥰

I've not actually bought anything in newborn size yet as I'm hoping to hold off until closer to the due date so I can exchange it for a bigger size if baby is a big'un!

@Whatshouldbemyusername that's a lovely idea 😊 I'm in East Hampshire, anyone else round my way? Xx

MM1993 · 15/06/2021 23:28

@Whatshouldbemyusername - I'm SE London !

Hoares3 · 16/06/2021 06:26

@Whatshouldbemyusername great idea on the location! I'm Leicestershire!

Daffodil21 · 16/06/2021 06:47

@MM1993 aw once upon a time (in my uni days!) I was SE London too!

Now north east Scotland, although originally from Suffolk so will be visiting there lots
