Anyone else ridiculously hungry today? I only just had breaky and my tummy rumbling again already!!
Will have to raid fridge, could really eat a korma, or maybe lasagne ooh or roast potatoes...what's going on? It's 9.30 in the morning!!! Mind you i have been awake since about 4am so i guess it's at least elevenses as far as my body is concerned!!!! Even so... could this mean my body is gearing up for some major effort, you know like having a baby??!! Hmm wishful thinking probably!

skidaddle · 27/11/2007 09:52

Happy DD RG - is this your first? In which case even more likely that you will go overdue (well i suppose you are already overdue unless you suddenly go into labour in the next few hours!)

claraq - snap again! I was also up at 4.30 and worrying about everything and with a sore shoulder from sleeping on my left side! It must be such a worry not knowing where you'll be in a year's time, how the situation is going to pan out in Pakistan etc. FWIW I doubt very much that stress now will affect your milk supply although I base that only on a hunch

Talking of Christmas trees - are you all going for real ones or fake? I want a fake one as I think it is more environmentally friendly as we can get it our every year but DH is disgusted at the idea and insists on a real one (think this is because he grew up with fake ones whereas we always had a real one so a fake one is a bit of a kitsch novelty for me)

RGPargy · 27/11/2007 09:53

Melly - awww your first xmas in your new home will be lovely! DP and I are in our new home too so we'll be in the same boat as we moved here in the summer. Sorry to disappoint but i dont think the ravenous appetite has anything to do with anything gearing up! Bummer, i know.

Suey - 10 days to go isn't that long. I dont feel any different after getting here tho. At least i spose i know i've only got a maximum of 2 weeks left. I sincerely hope i dont last that long tho!!!

Loucee - What does clary sage do and where can i buy it?!!

Clara - blimey, you ARE organised!! I'm doing all my shopping online this year! Sod trying to battle the shops with either a huge bump or a new baby!

RGPargy · 27/11/2007 09:54

Hi Skidaddle! No, this isn't my first. I have a DS already, but it's been a very long time since i gave birth. DS is now 17!!! So i spose i could almost be classed as a first timer again.

mellymooks · 27/11/2007 09:59

RG - you must've missed our huge discussion the other night about Clary Sage!! It's an essential oil - use sparingly as v. powerful 4-6 drops in bath or 6 drops max to 20ml of a carrier oil like swt almond and massage your back with it.
You can get it in boots, holland & barret, health food shop etc

shame about the food thing!! Just eaten bowl of cous cous I was meant to be having for lunch!!

Bouncingturtle · 27/11/2007 10:01

Morning! Just a quick check in before I head off to the local Bumps and Babes session - wish me luck

claraquitebignow · 27/11/2007 10:03

Skid - thanks. Are you as tired as I am if you have been up since 4.30am? Like Melly, I feel like it's nearly lunchtime already. Am contemplating whether a walk to the shops would be a good thing or not (looks anxiously out the window at the big grey clouds).

RG - I also did much of my Christmas shopping online - it's definitely the way to go at this stage. Let's hope you'll have your baby this weekend and then have lots of time for wrapping afterwards!

Have been reading the Nov 07 post-natal thread and it's bringing it all back to me. Feeding, no sleep, mastitis...But also gorgeous cuddly little babies....

mellymooks · 27/11/2007 10:04

Skid - going for real, I can't not, love the smell, love the look of them and our council collects and recycles them so don't feel tooooo bad from environment point of view.
last two years we had one with a root which we planted, but our new place doesn't really have space in the garden as mainly rockery and patio.

skidaddle · 27/11/2007 10:08

clara - I walked to work and feel much better now so a walk to the shops might help?

Melly - that's great your council collects and recycles them - i wonder if ours do too. Planting it in the garden is def the best option, it's just finding somewhere to put it..

RG - wow - 17 years between labours - can you remember much about first time round? It has only been 2 years since my last one and I have already forgotten that it hurts (self-delusion as a possible form of pain relief)!!

claraquitebignow · 27/11/2007 10:09

Skid - we had a little real tree for two years running that we planted out during the year. However it has pretty well died this year (the very top bit is healthy but the rest is brown) - probably because of all the rain. Have not actually thought about tree or decorations yet. If you see a good fake one let me know where because I guess if we do move next year will need to take it with us!

claraquitebignow · 27/11/2007 10:12

You mean childbirth hurts??? Oh no, you've burst my little pretend bubble that it'll all be easy

Yes I think you are right and I will go for a little walk. Can stop and have a coffee and cake at a nice cafe while I'm there.

By the way think I am breaking the record for number of posts but it's something to do with being due so soon - I think it makes you come on MN more and more as you need reassurance/advice/support etc the closer to the big day you get.....

mellymooks · 27/11/2007 10:20

Think you're right Clara, I'm pretty much constantly logged in now, watching threads (mainly this one!) it passes the time and helps me not feel alone at a time where waiting is the main agenda, and stops me spiralling off too much with stupid illogical worries!

Well think I'll brave the outside world for a bit, even though it looks a bit grey and bleak. Keep that chattign a coming so I've got lots to catch up on when i get back!!

Amani · 27/11/2007 10:29

Morning all,

Gosh some of you have been up early. Can i join the 'Rubbish Night Sleep' club too? . Think I must have slept 4 hrs max last night. DD was unwell so kept crying in her sleep every 3 hrs and my bed feels soooooooooo uncomfortable now, keep tossing and turning but can't find a comfy position. Manage to fall asleep at around 9am after DH and DD left the house and then some stupid annoying person called half and hour later asking if I was interested in insurance.

Lol at melly and her crazy food habits this early in the morning!!

Amani · 27/11/2007 10:30

Just looked in the mirror ad noticed how bushy I have let my eyebrows become..think they are going to need some emergancy doing today.

RGPargy · 27/11/2007 10:40

Melly - thanx for that. I might have to get a bottle of that if the sweep doesn't work, although i'm tempted to just order some online for delivery tomorrow! As for Xmas trees, we're going to buy an artificial one this year. We have a real one that's been planted outside by the previous owners of this house which is out the front so we're gonna stick our little outside lights on that. They're nice little subtle ones so the tree will look lovely!

Clara - Thankfully we dont have too many pressies to buy and we also have a business park up the road that's got PC World, Toys R Us etc so if i DO have to waddle out to the shops, it's only up the road. Cant bear the thought of having to hit the high street!

Skid - It's funny because i didn't really remember much about labour/babies etc until i fell pg with this one! Now it's all coming flooding back to me and i just hope that it'll be much easier this time around. Unfortunately DS was a screamer for the first six months so i've always shuddered at the thought of having any more kids, but it's amazing what a brilliant new supportive partner can do for you!

Amani - I'm with you on the uncomfy positions! I just cant stay asleep these days!!

Wizzska · 27/11/2007 10:55

Sarah - hiya due date buddy. Is yours showing any signs of arriving yet? Mine seems to be quite happy where he is.

Loucee - I'm with you on the massage, its so hard to reach and pretty grim really.

Ambi · 27/11/2007 11:03

Ok so I've just ordered some clary sage now - although don't have a bath, should work ok in a oil diffuser though. Snap with the shocking nights sleep, even the surrounding pillows don't help now. Will go back to bed this afternoon.

Gonna have a trip to the shop now for some bacon and barms, and other snacks and mags and have a sick day on the sofa ooh that's cheered me up now. Happy Due Date RG,

insywinsyspider · 27/11/2007 11:12

Claraq ? we?ll def be calling (possible dd) Mathilda on birth cert and Mattie to us ? still can?t decide on middle names tho, sound silly but nice to introduce them to world with a complete name?

RG of due date here already, then end is in sight!

Loucee ? good idea bout xmas decs, hadn?t really considered teaching ds about them ? also am doing the massage, well dh is, he?s fine about it but downside is it gives him ideas and just makes me a little sore so he has no hope! Its pretty grim but the fear of tearing/epsi is making me persist

Skid ? we?ve gone for fake, we did last year, family was pretty disgusted but I didn?t want ds crawling through pine needles till June and just pointed out if they thought it was such a great idea they could clean up after ? this year I?m expecting ds to pull it over a couple of times out of curiousity so fake will stand up to the abuse better!

last few days at work fingers crossed baby stays put, can't wait for dh to be back on Sat - think I'm going to miss having some adult converstaion in evenings so if not asleep will be logged on here!

Wizzska · 27/11/2007 11:14

I'm getting used to not sleeping. I usually get a few hours, perhaps 4, then I toss and turn for the rest of the night trying to get my hips comfortable. I used to always sleep right through. All good prep for when baby is born I suppose.

Ambi · 27/11/2007 11:18

my DH is a bit baa humbug at Xmas, and would abolish it if he could, I'd like a real tree but couldn't do with the hassle, got a fake one but wished I'd got one with the lights attached (lights are the worst thing about dressing a tree). Although should smell ok this year as I put a pine car freshener in the box last year.

SarahPT · 27/11/2007 11:38

Back again

Hi Wizzska - nope - no signs of appearing yet. Think he/she's just too comfy in there.

MW just been out to see me and is coming again next friday (by which time I'll be 5 days overdue) if nothing has happened by then !

MW has just been telling me about the benefits of birthing pools - I know a few people on here are planning on using them with a home birth but has anyone used one before ?

insywinsyspider · 27/11/2007 11:41

sarah - planning to use one at home just to labour in but not used one before - do a search I'm sure loads of people have asked about them on childbirth thread might find some good info

skidaddle · 27/11/2007 11:43

lol ambi - my DH is also a real baa humbug but i told him in no uncertain terms that last year was the last year he was allowed to be a grumpy bstrd for DD's sake so he is begrudgingly agreeing to decorations etc this year. We also have his parents coming for TEN days over Christmas so he has to be nice!

insy - I am also hoping baby stays put as it is this week that our friends who will take DD are away. Had really strong BHs for a long time last night but thankfully have gone away again. When is your DH back?
BTW so pleased to hear your DS is back to his usual self after all the problems you were having - perfect timing with your DH away and baby due any day

skidaddle · 27/11/2007 11:47

Sarah - I've never used one as our local hospital doesn't have one. I would def try if there was one available though - do you know if there's one where you're giving birth?

BunnyBaby · 27/11/2007 11:51

SarahPT - We've hired a birth pool with heater and filter and it's been up in the back room now for 2 weeks this Saturday. It is pure bliss, we get in each night and it really takes the pressure off DH says its like a fab bath that never gets cold, I really recommend it for anyone having a homebirth too. I can't stand cold so couldn't really opt for the pool in a box as I was worried the water would cool and I get scalded as DH and midwife added more water if labour was long.

Woke up at 1am last night with 3 massive contractions and major back pain, then everything settled down again to gently braxton hicks. These petered out by dawn, so as a result I am now quite tired.

I have a pal taking me off to Watford for a few hours, hopefully can do a Costco. Not keen on driving myself far at the mo, but feel 'safe' with another person driving. Have a good day everyone!
