Hello everyone. Will you come and join me?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidaddle · 26/11/2007 15:00

clairey - think it's so us mothers can be long-suffering!! Actually I think it's because they hear us talk about daddy all the time so they actually hear 'daddy' more than 'mummy' - although my dd actually sees my DH more than me so maybe my theory doesn't quite work

clara - oh my goodness - your poor DH! One and a half hours would have had me at my wit's end (esp after TWO hours in the pool) - thank goodness it wasn't you at least!

My DD has suddenly stopped having naps at only 2.1 and just before new baby arrives - I was banking on at least another year so be pleased at least you do have a bit of nap-respite

claraquitebignow · 26/11/2007 15:07

Skid - I like to think I would have avoided the tantrum by using one of my clever techniques but I might be deluding myself!

I think they suck up to daddy (and others) more than us because they know they can rely on our unconditional love as we are around so much more - if that makes sense. My dd is sweet as pie around her grandparents, childminder etc.

Mind you, that doesn't explain why she was so bad with DH on Saturday. Nor why Skid's dd sucks up to her daddy if she sees more of him than her.

Hmmmm. Not sure of the answer.

Bouncingturtle · 26/11/2007 15:11

According to a recent survey, 45% of kids have "Daddy" as their first word, 35% have "Mummy", simply because they hear "Daddy" more often. Didn't say what the other 20% said, probably "NO!" or "Kitty!" or something lol

Bouncingturtle · 26/11/2007 15:12

And belly button goes in and out depending on how I am sat!
Been good today, have been packing my hospital bags! Feel quite proud of myself. Now need to go shopping.

skidaddle · 26/11/2007 15:13

well I did think that clara but didn;t want to do your DH a diservice!

I find that DD behaves a bit better for me than DH so that would fit your theory but it is only a matter of hours in the difference that he spends with her compared to what I spend with her and I like to think that it is my superior mothering skills that result in this pleasing state of affairs

skidaddle · 26/11/2007 15:17

oh good I was right [smug know-it-all emotion]

claraquitebignow · 26/11/2007 15:21

Bouncingturtle - you are reminding me of my dd with your bellybutton - she is forever pulling hers in and out as well!

My dd said dada first and then a few other words like nana (as in banana) and teddy before she finally got on to mama. I think you are right - it was because she heard the word daddy so much more.

Amani · 26/11/2007 15:23

Afternoon all. Lurgy finally got to me and at home now . Slept for 3 solid hrs and now tucking into a somosa while watching ER re-runs. Feeling a litle guilty as I am due to start mat leave on thursday....

Skid - you're DD sounds so cute. Mine says 'I low you mummy' . Seen your DD picture and she is lovely (cute chubby cheeks!). Oh, and also DD gets jelous when I give my DH a hug/kiss. She comes up to me and says 'MY DADDY' and hugs him herself. Think she is going to be a bit when LO arrives.

Chocpeanut - sorry to hear your not too good. Fingers crossed for you that LO comes ASAP!

Ambi - you crazy crazy woman with 4 bags! Thought my medium sized case was big enough but at least I don't feel too mad after reading yuor post

Amani · 26/11/2007 15:25

Where's MM today?

fifisworld · 26/11/2007 15:31

Ive just come back from midwife, she said that she can still feel 4/5th's of babys head so cant see anything happening soon but ive got quite bad cramp, if i wasnt 37 weeks pg id think i was going to start my period.

I alos told her about the arse of a consultant i saw last week and she said she has heard so many people say that, and apparently theres a chance he might be performing my cs
Not that i suppose it matters but i'd resent him bringing my baby into the world.

Amani · 26/11/2007 15:40

Fifi - can you change consultants?

fifisworld · 26/11/2007 15:48

I dont know how i'd go about doing that, or even if i could ive only got just over 2 weeks until i go in.

mellymooks · 26/11/2007 15:55

Hello Everyone,
Gosh you've been chatty today just caught up on all the goss.
I've been trying to keep busy today to try and distract myself that I'm not in labour. (I know officially I'm not due til 7th but am just sooooo ready, i'm going to be hell to live with if i'm late!!!)

Went to yoga this morning - it's getting harder every week! Then dropped in on preggers mate and we've been chatting for hours about all kinds of stuff.

Chocp - ouch hope it improves soon for you!

I've kind of half packed a bag for me and it's got a list on top of all the other things that need to go in it should i need it.
Got a little rucksack packed for LO, but we are so near hospital/shops/home that hopefully if we've forgotten anything my man will be able to get it easily!

Wizzska · 26/11/2007 16:04

Nesting instinct has really kicked in today. I keep trawling through the internet for stuff to make the spare room look like a nursery. I even braved the big outdoors to the shops and nearly got run over by an idiot old man on a mobility scooter going too fast. Got me really angry I could have punched his face in.

Shells · 26/11/2007 17:11

Fifisworld, I had a horrible consultant who was supposed to do my csection with DS1 - or at least supposed to supervise. I phoned the lead midwife at the hospital and said I didnt' want him there and she arranged it! I didn't even really have to give a reason - just said he upset me. I certainly never saw him again and the doctors I did get were lovely. So it might be worth trying, just to make it nicer for you.

fifisworld · 26/11/2007 17:26

Thanks Shells,
I have been under him all the time ive been to the ante-natal clinic at the hospital for my iron and last week was the first time ive ever met him when i had to go and discuss my section date.
Just my midwife today said she's heard lots of negative things about him but he does a good c/s.
I just felt so uncomfortable with him and he was so arogant, i just dont know how id feel if i turned up at theatre and he was there.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 26/11/2007 18:10

dh just made me laugh

he saud u better get my clothes ready for when you have to go to hosp..

i remember when we had dd he got dressed up then had to take it all off to put gown on

like hes going to have time to dress up if I suddenly have to go...

last time too he drove in the emergency entrance as I had to be there early for section then as he passed through barriers he mounted kerb abd drove across grass with me shouting what the hell are you doing. His head went. Then when we got in the nurse came to check me and all you could hear was strange sounds coming from the loo and dh emerged looking white....

forgot about all that until now..

ozzymoomoo · 26/11/2007 18:26

Hello all, I'm due on 30th Dec, and swaying between being very stressed about christmas/baby and very excited too. This will be my 2nd as already have ds aged 3 half. Great ideas about maternity mats and plastic sheeting as I've been worried about staining mattress too!!! Remembered to sleep on towel for the week leading up to ds1 and my waters did break while I was in bed!!!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 26/11/2007 18:31

im sat on towel as i type

Shells · 26/11/2007 18:42

Sounds just like my consultant Fifi. He made me feel about an inch high. I'm sure there are plenty of other people at the hospital capable of doing a good section. Do you know anyone else who has had one there?

skidaddle · 26/11/2007 19:45

amani - my dd does that too! (no, my daddy/mummy) Everythime you say something about your dd it reminds me of my dd - i reckon they'd be great friends if they ever met!

fifi - hope it isn't that horrible consultant who does your cs - in a way the only thing that matters is that you and your baby are safe and well but esp given that you'll be awake it would be so much nicer for someone else to do it

choc - read your post in pg about piles - your poor poor thing - how are you feeling now?

well I'm getting really strong BHs this evening - I'm sure they will pass and it's not the start of actual labour but it's still quite exciting! Have been bouncing on my birthing ball and imagining a lovely natural birth!

Caz10 · 26/11/2007 20:12

Ooh it is getting so exciting!! Congratulations to thelady!! And thanks so much to her OH for posting the good news.

4 days to go at work, 4 days to go at work, wooo wooo!! Can't wait - the sofa is soooo calling my name!

I'm having what feel like period pains, but they are dull as opposed to sharp - would BH be sharper? I think I am just getting over excited. Bump definitely lower though...

I know I've said this before, but I can't emphasise enough how much I admire you 2nd/3rd time mummies - I am soooo tired just from working and being pregnant, can't imagine having to come home and look after another LO too - well done you guys!

mellymooks I'm glad you've kept well during your pregnancy. I never say that I had ME as I think mine was so much milder - post-viral fatigue really. I have a friend who has been wheelchair bound with ME, it is a horrible thing. It's great you have a good support network, you'll be fine!!

cazzybabs · 26/11/2007 20:26

Oh bugger my blood tests for pre-exclampsia have come back as inconclusive....have to have them done again! Hope this means the old home birth is still allowed...please keep your fingers crossed!

Housemum · 26/11/2007 20:37

Cazzybabs - fingers crossed - put your feet up, think calm thoughts etc - don't know if it'd help but isn't pre-eclampsia partly triggered by bllod pressure? So chill out and get someone to wait on you hand and foot

Chocpeanut - am not sit on towel as I type - I hate this huge chair in the office (free when DH's work office was re-fitted but it's big and ugly!) so the amount of time I spend online I hope my waters go here and wreck the bloody chair!!

Have finished my mammoth task of filing away EVERY photo and negative we have, putting sticky labels on the albums to say what year they are. Just done a Snapfish order for the last few prints off the digital camera so can wipe the memory card and clear it for lots of new baby pics! Was quite scary when I was filing some old pics away - there were the v newborn pics of DD2, still a bit bloody and gooey - freaked me out a bit as the memories came back! Have just been downloading her latest pics from the M&S website which are much cuter

insywinsyspider · 26/11/2007 20:45

caz - bh don't have to be painful mine weren't last time, I only knew they were bh because I had one when mw was examining me and she commented

so lost with rest of conversation sorry I can't reply to everyone in turn as I can't remember who said what!

cazzy and melly - saw mw today and room temp has to be 20 ish deg (I'm sure it was warmer in hosp??) I've also decided to wait for cord to stop pulsating so baby gets all blood before having any injections for 3rd stage - mw said it didn't need to be done immediately and we could wait 5 mins unless they were worried about me bleeding so thats all good. Our boiler is playing up tho its a coimbi one so if it fails we have no hot water or heating, called out british gas and bloke was great but I don't think he fixed it, it turned off a couple of times again this afternoon - not in any day this week to wait for him to come back

Baby has dis-engaged too! was 2/5 now 4/5 - dh laughed and said I must have clenched and popped it out as he has gone to US today! don't think this baby will be arriving anytime soon which I'm kind of relieved and kind of disappointed about - want dh to be here but desperate to meet baby now!

whoever asked, Mattie is a lovely name - if we have dd they will be known as Mattie but we thought a tradional name on the birth cert gives them more options - dh said he couldn't imagine taking someone in business seriously if they used a 'nickname' so he wanted to give them a 'formal' name too - if that makes sense....

also measured on the line again - have the most random measurements but so far on for an 8lb-er - phew!

chocp - hope resting helps, I know someone who had local in piles for pushing stage so hope they can do something to make it more comfy for you

hello everyone else
