lorisparkle · 08/11/2007 22:59

Just wanted to put this on my 'threads I'm on' list. I, as usual, can't keep up with all of this but try and read back every now and then.

paranoidmummy · 09/11/2007 09:00

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 09:45

Morning all. paranoidmummy - that´s great news about the vbac, I´ve been given the go ahead as well Sorry to hear about your car, I shall keep my fingers crossed for you. scorpio - sorry to hear you´ve been feeling c**ppy. Hopefully I´ll get proper kicks soon.

paranoidmummy · 09/11/2007 09:58

yay soph that's fab. I'm sorry i forgot to ask. I'm so excited about it - does that make me a bit weird?!

Car is being fixed now on the company - phew!!! Hopefully I won't cry about anything strange today!!!

VictorianSqualor · 09/11/2007 10:03

Yay Soph!! We can all stretch our fanjos

I have my smear today, follow up from my LEEP (cervix op to remove CIN III cells) 6 months ago, fingers crossed.

Sheds75 · 09/11/2007 10:08

Mornign All ! Friday again.......
need a relaxing weekend after this week, not going to happen though, have to wallpaper the kitchen ready for us to move in a few weeks . will cheer myself up with a bit of retail therapy for the LO's new room

ToastAddict · 09/11/2007 10:13

Morning!
Paranoid - sorry to hear about the car, but hooray for the company paying for it (as they should!!)
Scorpio - hope you're feeling better soon
Annieroo - welcome!
Peachy - good luck for next week

As for all the VBACers - I'm very pleased for you as you all seem so pleased. But as a first timer, I can't quite see all the enthusiasm for being allowed to push something large through a very small hole rather than having the option of having it taken out for you!!
Is it because of the impact the CS has on you after the birth i.e. not being able to pick baby up easily, struggling to get round etc? In which case, I can see your reasons for pushing for VB. But I've got to say, I am getting more terrifed of the birth by the day! To the point where I am refusing to think about it at all.

La la la

ToastAddict · 09/11/2007 10:14

VS - will be thinking of you - have they said how long the results will take to come back?

paranoidmummy · 09/11/2007 10:28

Good luck vs, I have everything crossed for you (especially my legs after the fanjo comment! ). Let us know how u get on.

Thanks toast, I am so happy about my car, I had a real feel sorry for myself moment about it yest!

In terms of the vbac, I can't really explain why i am so desperate to have a natural labour as I recovered v quickly last time, scar minimal etc. I just really enjoyed ( i must be strange!) the whole labour process until it went wrong obv. I felt really cheated that i wasn't allowed to continue and just felt like they had interfered and ruined it all. I would LOVE to give birth naturally this time round although many people think i am mad!

lemonaid · 09/11/2007 10:32

VBAC is major abdominal surgery -- not so bad first time round (and I say that as one who developed whooping cough afterwards... ouch!) but I really don't like the thought of recovering from a c/section with a bouncy 3yo around the place.

Plus every c/s increases the risks of things like subsequent ectopic pregnancies (although, to be fair, most of the added risk comes in with the first c/s). A c/s is generally riskier for the mother. And it's a lot more common than you might think for things to happen like the baby getting cut during a c/s.

A vaginal delivery is pushing something large through a small hole, but a c/s is having a large hole cut somewhere that, fundamentally, you're not really supposed to have a large hole.

VictorianSqualor · 09/11/2007 10:43

I had two c/s's one emergency and one elective, ugh, horrible things, at least with labour it's meant to happen!

The pain after both my c/s's was horrendous as well, couldnt walk upright for weeks, and the nurses at the hospital said I was active quite quickly cos I was so determined to breastfeed that I was trying as hard as possible to do it all myself.

Also, the cheated feeling, I really want to be able to have done it proeprly, birth feels like something so special to me, I really want to do it properly.
El-cs for no real reason is another one of those things that gets my back up!

As for the results, I'm kind of hoping they do a colposcopy instead of a normal smear, cos then they can see straight away, but last time it took about 2 weeks til I heard.

smcg · 09/11/2007 10:51

ToastAddict, you made me laugh! I'm also not thinking about that aspect, I haven't read to the end of the pregnancy books (I have an inkling what happens ) and refuse listen when my friends try to tell me horror stories!

sagitta · 09/11/2007 10:52

Hi everyone. Good luck with the smear/coloscopy, VS.

I can really understand why those who had a CS now want a VB - but I have to say that after a VB I couldn't walk properly for weeks afterwards either (make sure they get the stitches right...). And doing a poo afterwards(sorry if TMI!) is one of the scariest things ever. I was hoping I'd be constipated for the rest of my life

sagitta · 09/11/2007 10:53

Oops, sorry toastaddict and SMCP...

lemonaid · 09/11/2007 10:58

Well, after a c/s you pretty much are constipated for the rest of your life (well, until you come off the painkillers, anyway)...

What's the old phrase? After a c/s you can't sit up, after a vb you can't sit down, something like that...

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 11:01

I refuse to think about it, especially as my friend said why should I have a pelvic floor when no-one else does!!!

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 11:02

Also, CS are very scary over here as they knock you out completely & leave your poor DH pacing the waiting room. Last time they gave him a see-through bag with my things in and said "there´s your wife´s effects" then turned & walked away He thought I´d carked it!!!

sagitta · 09/11/2007 11:13

That's terrible!

Sheds75 · 09/11/2007 11:33

"soph" that is terrible

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 11:35

I know, fortunately I was completely oblivious, but poor DH just had to stumble around until he found someone who explained to him what was going on. At least he knows what to expect this time.

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 11:36

However, I shall keep thinking positive thoughts about VBAC so that DH can be with me throughout the whole thing I wonder then which option he´ll think is more scary

Sheds75 · 09/11/2007 11:50

my DP grew up on a farm and he associates all elements of my preganancy to Sheep! apparently sheep don't have any problems lambing so I should be fine.... we will wee what he thinks after the event

Soph73 · 09/11/2007 11:53

LOL at Sheds DH .... sheep don´t swear & try to beat up their other half and give birth either Tell him that & see what happens

TLSM · 09/11/2007 12:04

VictorianSqualor good luck this afternoon hope all goes well x

I have my scan tomorrow so find out if its a boy or gilr I am so excited
