Hello all - new thread here!

Lemonaid & SMCG I am also considering the Amby hammock (all this money I@m spending... is it driving anyone else nuts too?).
I think I read somewhere it takes babies up to 12kg - but with an extra 'spring' can go up to 12kg.

loisstella · 07/11/2007 19:47

sorry - up to 20kg

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 19:49

For a limited time only, if anyone's interested in seeing them in use...

The hug-a-bub (DS is about 9 weeks old here).

This is the Kelty (DS is a shade off five months).

And this one is the Ergo (DS is 14 months (and that's SIL in the picture, not me)).

Don't seem to have any pictures of the Cwtchi.

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 19:51

(The first and third are at the Boat Race, hance presence of Pimms and crowds of people staring vacantly in the general direction of the river)

Denny185 · 07/11/2007 19:54

hmm like the ergo, colour dosent look to bad in the pic, is that one confy to wear or does your shoulder wreck after a while?

VictorianSqualor · 07/11/2007 19:57

I like the look of the hug-a-bub, but I want one where the baby can lay down, rather than be upright, can you do that with those??

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 20:08

Ergo is pretty comfy (the shoulder straps are nicely padded). Not as comfy as the hug-a-bub, but as good as or better than all the rest.

You can do the "peapod" carry in the hug-a-bub up to about four months (see here which is a lying down position. Again, it's much the same as the Close Baby Carrier.

hi everyone,

sorry havent been around for some time. hope everyone is keeping well, just skimmed over your messages so will try and catch up properly later.
I have been feeling pretty bad for a couple of weeks. had hard time drinking enough fluids and ended up with quite bad headaches but thankfully thats gone now - the solution loads of ice lollies and veggie soup - not together obviously.

positive thoughts and good vibes

EllieG · 08/11/2007 10:07

I was looking at freedom slings - baby can lie down at first which looks nice to me - anyone used one?

Lemonaid ... your son is really cute.

Loistella, I also like the fact that you can use the Amby as a travel cot and they had me at babies sleep longer in it!

smcg · 08/11/2007 10:35

Btw, is anyone in the Clapham/Battersea area? We are thinking of moving there.

Soph73 · 08/11/2007 11:13

Morning all. Feel dreadful today, beanie must have moved in the night & must be pressing down on my bladder as I was back & forth to the loo all night & every time I stand up I get a shooting stitch-like pain underneath bump on right side - hey ho Hope everyone else is OK.

loisstella · 08/11/2007 11:17

at SMCG - the sleeping longer (or "better"... you know let's pretend its not just motivated by selfish reasons) got me all excited too. That's worth £200 isn't it?

ToastAddict · 08/11/2007 11:25

Just been to midwife, everything OK
Had expected to hear the heartbeat, and was really looking forward to it, but she said they didn't do that any more this early on (I'm 17 weeks tomorrow). NICE guidance apparently, to stop ladies getting worried when they can't hear anything, when everything is probably OK. SO I understand why, but am still a little

On the plus side, she didn't weigh me!

Interesting reading about slings, is this of any interest to people? www.slingmeet.co.uk/

loisstella · 08/11/2007 11:44

ToastAddict - that is odd... we had the heartbeat thing on Monday.
If she has a doppler, and you nwated to hear it... I don't understand why she didn't just let you?

Mollyfloss · 08/11/2007 11:49

My Doctor listened to the heartbeat at 16 weeks but I think your midwife maybe just didn't have the time or have the doppler handy or maybe has too many Mum's freaking out for nothing. There is nothing to be worried about.

Soph73 · 08/11/2007 11:52

toastaddict - morning That sounds like a load of baloney to me. Surely if you want to hear it you should be allowed to. Then again I used to work for the Health Authority and never understood NICE then! I´d have thought it would make women *more paranoid.

ToastAddict · 08/11/2007 12:04

Mmmm, she seems really nice, so I don't think she was doing it to be difficult.

She did say that seeing as NICE said they weren't supposed to do it in the first place, if the mum did get worried at the lack of a heartbeat, they weren't allowed to send you to the hospital for a scan, so you'd be worried and couldn't be reassured....

Soph73 · 08/11/2007 12:30

NO, I´m sure she wasn´t being difficult, she was only doing what she´d been told, it just seems stupid to me - but then, what do I know

sagitta · 08/11/2007 12:36

Morning everyone,
shame about the heartbeat, toast addict, but I'm sure it's all fine.

I'm now convined by the Amby hammock too - but is it worth that much for just a few months?

SMCG - I know Clapham/ battersea quite well, my sister lives there. Great place for kids...

Annieroo · 08/11/2007 12:41

Hello all,

I am due on the 21st April and this is my first.

Is anyone in south wales area?

smcg · 08/11/2007 12:48

Hi Annieroo.

Thanks Sagitta, that's what I was hoping.

VictorianSqualor · 08/11/2007 12:49

Toastaddict, when I went to my last midwife appointment they ahd me listen to the heartbeat, but it was a student midwife who apparently needed practice finding them, she did tell me it was often hard to find at this stage, but when I went to my consultant at the hospital the day after, she asked me if I wanted to listen, I actually said no, because I wanted to get out of there for school time!

Piccalilli2 · 08/11/2007 13:05

smcg, I sued to live in Balham so know Clapham well, definitely a nice place to live and Northcote Road is great for wandering with a pram. If you're moving pre-baby though you won't have a hope in hell of getting into nct antenatal classes, they book up from about 10 wks pregnant round there.
