Fisil its great to hear you being so positive. Best of luck with the inspection

logic · 03/11/2004 13:26

Hi everyone, had my scan today and everything is lovely. Really low risk of DS too. Bless him, he was asleep and so after a while, I was told to stand in the corridor jumping up and down and eat a mars bar to wake him up! It did the trick anyway and I saw him rubbing his little face and sucking his thumb then he went back to sleep again! When I say "he", I mean "he/she"...

I get my next scan 3 days before Christmas. I am really happy and relieved now.

Uwila · 03/11/2004 14:34

Fisil -- oh right. Forgot you were at Kingston. Well it doesn't look like they are going to take me anyway. For backup, my GP is now writing a letter to Hammersmith (which is just fine with me) and if that fails Chelsea and Westminster. Basically, I figure if I'm too picky, she'll give up on trying to please me. So, my approach is to just full stop refuse St. Peters and then I'll have to settle for what she gets. I've said that Kingston, West Mid, Hmmersmith, and Chelsea and Westmin. are all fine. Hammersmith (Queen Charlotte) would actually be my first choice. So if she can get me in there, I prefer it to Kingston anyway. It may mean that I pay for my own scans. But, I can live with that. Oh well, wish me luck!!!

Hi all,
I haven't posted for a few days as I had a couple of days off sick (I don't have a computer at home)I get irritable bowel syndrome. Back now though. I am starting to feel less sick too, although still very tired!, glad I don't suffer from migraines too. Its great that people are having their scans, logic, your sounds amazing - mines on the 11th, next thursday and I can't wait - haven't heard a heartbeat or anything yet and it still doesnt always seem real! This is my first. To update I'm 28 due 19th/17th May, live with dp and two dogs in the South West, and work full time as a Countryside Ranger - planning to go half time when I return to work after maternity leave. How are you feeling Fisil and Monmoo? Sounds like you've both had a worrying time, although it must be a great reassurance to be able to hear your babies hearbeats. Hope everyone else is doing ok too.

logic · 03/11/2004 16:24

Hi LittleB - hope you feel better soon. I haven't stopped feeling tired yet either. I must admit, I did feel a bit of a fool jumping up and down in the hospital corridor this morning. The undignified things we do for our babies is ridiculous My due date has been moved forward 2 days to the 9th May now.

Uwila · 04/11/2004 15:32

So, have the working women on here all told ther boss / coworkers? Just curious. I haven't peeped a word of it. Waiting til I know all is well at the nuchal scan (19 Nov.).

charleypops · 04/11/2004 16:28

Hi Uwila

I'm new to MN, due in June with my first baby, but can't post on the June thread because it's too big at the moment and my computer freezes.

I live in Weybridge and so have been allocated to "shared care" between my doctor and St Peter's. After reading your posts, I'm now worried. I'm fairly new to this area so haven't heard anything about St Peter's. I assume it's got a bad reputation then? How can I find out?

Uwila · 04/11/2004 16:56

Charleypops, I have heard bad things about St. Peters and I'm taking no chances. My advice to you is... abondon ship.

Mostly in terms of waiting times and availability of midwives while you are in there. One person even told me the midwives were better suited for careers as prison guards.

HAve you already agreed to go there. You will be a thorn in someone's side if you ask for a referral. But, on the other hand, if you flat out refuse to go to St. Peters, no body can make you.

Have you got any idea on what kind of birth you want?

check out www.birthchoice.co.uk and drfoster.co.uk Both are useful sites.

Uwila · 04/11/2004 16:58

I had my first baby in Epsom, which wasn't bad. Maybe you could get in there. Or, I think a certain number from Weybridge can get into Guildford, but you would have to act fast.

logic · 04/11/2004 16:58

Hello charleypops!

I agree, drfoster's is a brilliant website.

charleypops · 04/11/2004 17:24

OMG! "Vinegar Tits" midwives! No thanks! (fyi, that's a reference to "Cell Block H" a fab old aussie tv show we used to get over here in the 80's - I know you're American). I don't know if I've agreed to go to St Peter's - the doctor (a locum that particular day) just shoved a load of forms at me and I filled them in and certainly didn't give me any options.

I really hate making a fuss/confrontation etc and would hate to rub anyone up the wrong way that might have to look after me. I've got my first appt with the mw at the clinic tomorrow, so I'll speak to her about my choices. And I think I'll make an appt with my usual doctor for a chat about it too. I'm certainly not going to take any chances.

I always hoped that by the time I was ready for a family, I'd be able to grow my baby in a jar or something on the sideboard and just scoop it out when I was ready!

I have quite a narrow pelvis so I may have to have a caeser, hopefully the mw will be able to tell me tomorrow. I always thought a pre-booked caeser would be the best (ie most painless and less traumatic) option, but now I'm actually pg, I've suddenly become a bit more open minded for some reason. However, if there's any doubt about the size of my pelvis I will do my best to insist on a caeser. I know someone who had two crash caesers after hours of labour (at St Peter's actually) and I really don't want to go through that if it can be at all avoided.

charleypops · 04/11/2004 17:46

I've just downloaded the "Investigation into Maternity Services provided by Ashford and St Peter?s Hospitals NHS Trust" report published in March 2003 and feel like crying

Brighteyes · 04/11/2004 17:49

I have been told there is a direct correlation between the size of your pelvis and your shoe size. Is there any truth in this or is it an old wives tales?

Rather concerned, I'm only a size 3

logic · 04/11/2004 17:57

Brighteyes, I only know one person who's baby was too big to come out. Both parents are very tall and the baby was 10lbs 6oz! Ow! I think that generally you get a baby that suits the mother's size. I am quite little and got a 7lb 2oz baby. Then again, I was only 6lbs myself. Maybe there is a genetic element...

logic · 04/11/2004 17:58

charleypops, where did you get the report from? I'd like to look up my local hospitals if possible (even though I have chosen one).

charleypops · 04/11/2004 18:04

AAARRRGH!! I'm only a small size 2!!

charleypops · 04/11/2004 18:07

Hi logic, try starting here

Sorry, you'll have to copy and paste, don't quite understand the instructions on how to insert a link. Hope your local reports aren't as scary as mine!

Thanks for the suggestions Myermay, and I'm glad to hear you had a good experience at Frimley. I'll start asking questions tomorrow. I just hope I haven't left it too late....

Hi Myermay, I'm 8 weeks today - due mid June. Unfortunately I can't post on the June thread yet 'cos it's too big and my computer freezes so i'll have to wait and see if it splits into a new thread.
