Hi August Mum-to-be's!
Sorry I'm a little late to the party. I'm due 29th August and it's my first.
It's so nice reading all your posts and seeing you're going through the same things as me. Wish I'd found you sooner.
I was feeling amazing last week but for some reason today I've felt really rubbish again and my boobs are feeling really swollen. I've already gone up a bra size so have just had to order some more. Anyone else experienced this? x

CountryGirl84 · 01/03/2021 15:23

@Fran919 I was considering a private scan around 16 weeks depending how I go. I'm just scared something's happened since the 12 week scan and 20 weeks seems quite far away. I'm probably being silly but I had a missed miscarriage last year and I'm a little nervous still. My friend had the same experience as me and she did a private scan at 16 weeks and all was fine but it gave her peace of mind x

MrsB2019x · 01/03/2021 15:41

Welcome @CountryGirl84!

I’m thinking about a private scan too. I’ve been trying to talk myself out of it because it’s unnecessary spends but the wait between the 12 week and 20 week scans is feeling huge, especially with no movements yet ☹️ Keep feeling like there isn’t a baby in there really!

Daffodil21 · 01/03/2021 15:41

I've already had 2 scans since my dating scan - no way was I waiting until 20 weeks for the next one. I am super paranoid that something's going to go wrong as this is my 4th pregnancy (no children) and this is by the far the furthest we've got.

My reasons aside, going to a private scan is actually lovely just to see how things are progressing and to give you peace of mind. You can hear the heartbeat too (not sure if this is varies from clinic to clinic). I'm going to ask my midwife if she'll regularly use a Doppler to check things are still ok, and if not I'm going to keep booking scans!

Does anyone know what they're having yet?

Daffodil21 · 01/03/2021 15:42

Sorry, I meant to say hello and welcome @CountryGirl84 !

Fran919 · 01/03/2021 16:09

Welcome @CountryGirl84 and sorry to hear about your previous loss.

Thanks for info on the scans, I’ve booked in for 18 weeks, ideally would have wanted 17 but they didn’t have any appointments later in the day and charge extra for evening / weekends. It’ll be 2.5 weeks before the NHS one but just can’t wait that long for reassurance. I don’t think the midwives in my area use a Doppler until 25 weeks+ according to some documentation but I really liked the atmosphere at the private clinic and she was very knowledgeable and thorough so well worth the money. Always good to hear the heartbeat and be provided with all the images / videos too - that’s my justification to my husband anyway 😂

Daffodil21 · 01/03/2021 16:40

@Fran919 annoying they charge you extra for evening appointments! I guess I can see why though. We are lucky that ours doesn't as we've also been going after work.

Mine will use a Doppler from 16 weeks but she's been on holiday for 2 weeks so I haven't been able to ask her yet.

It's definitely worth the money just for the reassurance. My husband knows not to question the scans 😂 so far we've had 4 NHS ones and 4 private ones 🙈 if I mention that I'm panicking about something he knows to look and see when we can change the scan date for (we usually always have one booked)🙈 I wish I could just chill the F out but I can't, so regular scans it is!!! I think he would be quite happy to wait until the 20 week one, but I'm not..!

PurplePansy05 · 01/03/2021 16:41

@Daffodil21 If you look at our list, it has information on the sex. Some of us had NIPT and knew early, some had private scans at around 16 weeks and found out then.

I too had 3 MCs and no living DCs yet. I've not had any private scans in the second trimester yet, but I've actually just booked one for later this week when I'm 17 weeks. Hope for good news again. xx

PurplePansy05 · 01/03/2021 16:46

@CountryGirl84 MMCs are awful, two of my MCs were missed at 11 and 13 weeks and it just scars you, doesn't it. I do my best not to think about it, it's a separate pregnancy and the story doesn't need to repeat itself. It's best to stay calm, for you and your baby's development. If it helps you to have a scan, have one, although I think we need to manage our anxiety too, it simply isn't viable to have one every week or two. I also have scanxiety after bad news before and so to me scans are both helpful and unhelpful tbh. It's a personal balancing act IMO. Try focusing on the here and now, not on the past, that's what I tell myself most days. xx

Daffodil21 · 01/03/2021 16:53

@PurplePansy05 ah yeah, I did read that when I first joined but then I forgot about it!
So sorry to hear you've also had 3 mcs - you've done well to keep going without extra scans! I wish I could 🙈 I actually have been having a scan every week to two weeks. I do feel a little ridiculous though and my friends think I'm being a little ridiculous too. I know what you mean about the scanxiety beforehand. It does end up ruining the day a bit while waiting for it, but then it keeps me going for another week or so. I guess it depends person to person as to what's best!

Hope all goes ok at your scan this week and you don't feel tooo anxious beforehand x

PurplePansy05 · 01/03/2021 17:12

Sorry for your losses too 💐

I struggle to concentrate on a scan day personally and therefore aren't efficient work-wise, I just can't afford such distraction weekly or fortnightly @Daffodil21. I also feel very different now at nearly 17 weeks, it's a very different stage of pregnancy and I find it helpful. Obviously if scans are still helping you, go for it 💐 xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/03/2021 17:26

@Daffodil21 and @PurplePansy05 you women are all incredible. This is going to happen really well for all of us. Keep staying positive.

@Alittlexmasmagic and @Inmypjsagain I’ve just been signed off sick with pregnancy related from my GP for a week. I’m positive this will help me feel much better and I can rest. There’s just a lot going on together with pregnancy and I think I’m feeling abit overwhelmed. I try meditation but someday are hard. Thank you both for your advise this morning x

Caz1226 · 01/03/2021 18:37

Happy Monday guys!
I’ve been thinking about a private scan
I’m 16 weeks now but haven’t got my next MW until the 15th and then my 20th on the 1st!
I haven’t had any movements yet but to be honest I wouldn’t say I’m got a bump at all- I bloat up but it goes back down by the morning

Hmmmm I just dont know whether to or not x

HopefulB · 01/03/2021 18:56

MrsB2019x · 01/03/2021 18:59

My husband keeps trying to tell me what we can get off our baby checklist for £65 instead of a private scan 😂 it’s not like he wouldn’t be up for another scan because he definitely would be, he’s just trying to get priorities straight I guess!

HopefulB · 01/03/2021 19:18

@Fran919 my combined results came through after 9 days, but I was told very clearly that no news is good news, and that if there was any concern I would be called within a week.

Re scans I think I’m in the same headspace as @PurplePansy05, whilst I really felt the reassurance from 6/8/10 week follow up with the recurrent miscarriage clinic, it also caused me massive anxiety for 2-3days before. I’m happy in my head that we’ve
passed the riskiest phase, and so felt like a switch from 2 weeks to 4 weeks was the logical step. I have a 16 week scan booked again under the miscarriage clinic, however I probably would have paid for this one if it had not been available. I think you just have to do what is right for you and what you can rationalise in your own head!

@Whatshouldbemyusername, sorry you’ve not been feeling well. Any sickness in pregnancy should be recorded separately to other absences, so cannot be used in disciplinary etc. You should also be entitled to the same sickpay you would normally. I think at some point it can affect SMP calculations, so worth checking.

@Inmypjsagain I went for the Serephine bamboo leggings too! They feel so soft, I can’t wait to wear them.

Daffodil21 · 01/03/2021 19:31

@Caz1226 no movements yet for me either, but at my last scan on Thursday he was definitely wriggling around so don't worry too much, it's still very early for movements. Is this your first?

@MrsB2019x yeah that's the thing, every time I book a scan I do think we should be saving that money..! Thankfully scans are half price atm!

@HopefulB that's useful - thank you! Lots of boys on that list so far! I'm also expecting a big, EDD 12th August 💙

@PurplePansy05 just seen your EDD is the same as mine Smile and a boy too 💙 I get what you mean about the scan day being a write off. I have to admit that I did actually take the day of the last scan off work, but that was mostly because I was having pains I was worried about 🙈 I don't usually if it's a private one though, but I do take the NHS ones as holiday as they're during the day. I know I can take the time as it's pregnancy related but I would honestly rather just take the whole day!

Inmypjsagain · 01/03/2021 19:35

@CountryGirl84 welcome!!! Smile yes my boobs have grown a fair bit, I ordered a bravissimo bralette that was linked a few pages back. I’m cautious about buying more than one incase they grow again!

@Whatshouldbemyusername sorry to hear you’re feeling so bad but a week off will hopefully do you some good.

I have a private scan for the weekend for gender, am quite sure am having a boy but would like it to be confirmed so we can tell people officially (I’ve been saying he/him to everyone so people assume I already know!)

@HopefulB ohh, have you not tried them yet? I can’t wait for mine to arrive!

PurplePansy05 · 01/03/2021 19:48

Ladies just so you know I had a bad experience with Seraphine, I've ordered a couple of things and some were poor quality and the rest looked nothing like photos on the website. I've returned everything and actually wrote them an email to sort their shit out. Maybe I was particularly unlucky, but it's put me off completely which is a shame as they clothes look nice on the website. But it's not the lowest price tag for maternity clothes and for that money, I'd go elsewhere. xx

Caz1226 · 01/03/2021 20:01

@Daffodil21 hello yes it’s my first, I’m hoping by 20 weeks I will have at least felt a little flutter or something
At the 12 week scan there was a lot of movement it just seems such a long time ago since then and such a long time to go until 1st April Xx

Inmypjsagain · 01/03/2021 20:16

@PurplePansy05 oh dear! I was looking at the website today and thought they had some lovely stuff (was interested in their Parkers/coats because there’s a baby attachment, not sure if you know the one I mean?) but quite pricey compared to H&M etc.

Well I’ll see how these leggings go and hope for the best (website says they’re hosiery so can’t return for hygiene reasons) xx

MrsB2019x · 01/03/2021 20:31

I’ve just booked a private scan for tomorrow.. eeeeek! So excited to see baby again. Hoping they can tell the gender tomorrow!

@Whatshouldbemyusername Sorry you have been feeling so rubbish 😔 hopefully the time off will do you good

Champson · 01/03/2021 21:28

Had a scan today at 15 +1 - all 3 babies looking good so far! Very happy to see them again, not that the consultant showed me any of it. It was VERY awkward as we requested to change consultant and hospital last week and they didn’t manage it before this appointment. My crap consultant asked me why I was leaving and I couldn’t very well say because you’re crap!!! So awkward. I just said bc of better neonatal facilities at the other place which is partly true!! No pics or anything from today that’s how crap she is!!

MrsB2019x · 01/03/2021 22:10

Glad your scan went well @Champson but that is so shitty they didn’t even give you pictures! Sounds like you made the right decision by moving! When will your next one be? Hopefully they’ve got their shit together by then

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/03/2021 23:02

@HopefulB @Inmypjsagain and @MrsB2019x thank you. I’m hopeful that this week will help. I just plan on resting and hydrating and eating well and relaxing xx

@Champson glad the LOs are all good ♥️ - am sorry you’ve had a not so good experience so far but I’m happy you decided to move and will have a better experience in the other facility x
