Haven't been on for a while - has anyone had their baby yet?

claireybang · 02/11/2007 13:32

Sorry Amani but I win on the new babyness -I had a cuddle with a one week old this morning! Lady who used to childmind and bring her charges to toddlers brought her grandson in-I was very impressed that her dd let her out with the baby (first baby) alone after only a week! I wouldn't let dd out of my sight at that stage (not to mention all the GERMS of the scary big toddlers lol)! (Still don't like it now but that's another story...)

I was a good girl today-did my housework before logging on to mumsnet, rather than logging on and doing housework in between messages like i normally do!

claireybang · 02/11/2007 13:35

Oh yes and Loucee, whenever I get a hard lump sticking out it's a bum (was with dd too) so don't worry too much, baby could still be right way up!

Consultant said baby is 2/5 engaged yesterday! Not sure if will stay that way, aren't seconds meant to bob in and out?

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 13:38

what does 2/5 mean... i guess fully eng when 5/5 but my last MW only ever said head engaged, never by how much.

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 13:39

Oh little 1 and 2 week old babies, how gorgeous

yes clairey - I saw the gp yesterday (mw too busy) and she said she thought the baby's head was 4/5 engaged!! I am only 34 weeks and I thought like you that it happened much later in 2nd pg..

Does anyone else get a funny feeling in their fanjo - almost like all the muscles are tensing up involuntarily? I've been getting it for a week or two and it's driving me mad and stopping me from sleeping. It goes away if I do my pelvic floor exercises but I can't be doing that all day..

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 13:39

yeah I think 5/5 is ready to pop out MM

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 13:41

oh I remember - it's how much of the baby's head you can feel above the pelvic bone - so if the head is 2/5 engaged then you can still feel 3/5 of the head if that makes sense

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 13:42

understand now.

claireybang · 02/11/2007 14:02

Yeah he could feel 3/5, sorry. Wow 4/5 Skidaddle-maybe you'll be popping sooner than you thought!

Amani · 02/11/2007 14:07

I really want this baby to turn as I feel so uncomfortable under my ribs - sometimes feel like I need to unhook my bra just to get a little extra space down there.

claraq · 02/11/2007 14:34

Hi everyone

Amani - yes feel JUST like you do under my ribs. In the evening I often go and get into comfy pj's and it's such a relief to take my bra! I wonder if I somehow expand during the day as it seems to get tighter as the day goes on?

Loucee - I have exactly the same as you, a large lump as the top which feels just like a head (felt like dd's head when she WAS breech). However, having just had the scan, I know this baby is definitely head down so it must be a bum. And hopefully it means it is not lying back-to-back either.

No engagement of baby here - Skidaddle, does it feel any different being so far engaged? My SIL was quite ill (runny tummy etc) when her (2nd) baby engaged - she gave birth about a week later.....

Housemum - you're very brave to be induced with your VBAC. I am too scared of scar rupture; also all the bad birth stories I know seem to have happened after inductions! However I really don't want another section so will start trying all the old traditional methods of getting things going soon.

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 14:38

claraq - OMG re your SIL!! Yes I have had an upset tummy recently - also I have that shooting pain up the inside of my thighs sometimes when I'm walking - OMG don't tell me i'm going to give birth in a week!!!!!

claraq · 02/11/2007 14:43

Skidd - yes apparently that's quite a common sign of the baby coming - not that I want to worry you or anything
Then again you could of course just have an upset tummy!!!
Have you packed your labour bag yet
It's been on my to-do list for about three weeks; I just can't be bothered doing boring things like that until the last minute. Trouble is I have no idea when the last minute is going to be!

Amani · 02/11/2007 15:20

Claraq - it's just a relief unhooking my bra, but am a bit reluctant sometimes, as a friend told me that your boobs are more like to droop after birth.

Don't know if there is any truth in that but certainly don't want mine half way to my stomach.

Amani · 02/11/2007 15:21

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 15:23

claraq - do it whilst you are having contractions to kill some time.

skid - wow... could be soon.

i have a runny tummy... but since my MW appointments are few and far in between I guess I wont know how engaged (if at all) we are.

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 15:24

Amani - first thing I do when I get home is get the bra off... at this point comfort wins over everything.

Amani · 02/11/2007 15:31

MM - Agree with you about the comfort thing, just thinking what my boobs will be like afterwards.

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 15:35

Amani just remember that if it all goes horribly wrong there are ways to fix it these days

Amani · 02/11/2007 15:45

Yes - was contemplating on asking my DH for something along those lines for my 30th, instead of a trip to Mauritius that we have planned!!

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 15:48

lol MM, yes I am another bra-unhooker as soon as I get in the door - will worry about the consequences later...

claraq - No, I haven't packed my bag yet either. We are waiting on hand-me-downs from friends who keep forgetting to bring them round so atm we have literally no clothes for the baby.. ah well it's always so warm in those maternity wards I'm sure he'll be fine

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 15:51

Mmmmm that is some choice Amani... I suppose you dont have to decide until you see the results

skidaddle · 02/11/2007 15:52

or maybe your DH can decide which he would prefer!!

mixedmama · 02/11/2007 15:52

PMSL

Amani · 02/11/2007 15:56
