G43 great news about scan...

Josey- totally get the boob thing- went to M&S today to be measured as am getting that 4-boob thing with the current stock, and have gone up a bra size and a cup size already....was 36F to start, and not even 11 weeks in!!!

In other news, DH's brother and his girlfriend have just found out they are having a baby- 2 weeks behind us...so the race is on for first grandchild!!!

makecakesnotwar · 07/11/2007 17:49

Oh my word- have just realised there is a DUE JULY 08 thread- we are no longer the newbies of the ante-natal thread. Do you think that's our first milestone?!!!

sophiewd · 07/11/2007 18:13

Ernest, you are the same age as me, please try not to worry so much.

josey · 07/11/2007 18:18

Ernest sending you big big hugs, I think that those stats are always a scare munger, so many people have healthy babies all through there 30s and into there 40's now, there were less people having babies in later age that DS was more noticable. Your still a spring chick.
I feel for you not having you DH with you it can be hard when you feel switched off from adult company or support, we are always here for you xx

Gardenangel & Katyjo I blame the raspberry leaf tea for the quick labours, its good to get it over with but the contractions are killers.

Dh just says a homebirth freaks him out he isnt totally against it and he wont tell me why till he comes home so it will drive me insane till next week.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Josie hope you get spoilt rotten x

debinaustria · 07/11/2007 18:25

Ernest - I totally understand what you're feeling. I'm 38 and will be 39 when baby is born so my chances are worse than yours!!At the scan on Monday the Gynae gave us the forms for the triple test and amnio in case we decide to go down that route. But we have to make the decision quickly to get an appointment, the problem is that now I've seen the baby I don't feel that I could do anything about it if the results came back that it was a high chance or definitely DS. So what's the point of the tests? I've made my mind up , just hope dh feels the same. I would rather just carry on and hope for the best. The gynae said that he would advise me to have the tests if I was 42/44 but at this age it was just up to us.
If you need to speak to someone tonight my number's on our homepage here

Happy Birthday Josie for tomorrow

Josey Glad you had a good appointment with the MW. question about bra sizes, I've always been measured in Mothercare or wherever before but here the underwear shops are v expensive so I need to measure myself - any tips?

SA - Hope you had a better day today.

Everyone else - hope you're all OK,I woke up and wasn't sick - I thought great a breakthrough, had my breakfast and sicked the whole lot back up again!!However I managed to open the fridge( with nose pinched) cook and feed my family proper food today - hurrah!!We ate a main meal at lunchtime and it was much better for me as I wasn't so tired.

ernest · 07/11/2007 18:43

thanks again everyone, I guess dh being away and having no one to talk and feeling too tired to get up and do stuff is an evil combination.

I know I wouldn't have an abortion no matter what, so for this reason I didn't have any tests at all with ds3 (did with ds1 & 2 as pg in UK & they were just done as routine, but here it's all private so anything they do you actually have to request iyswim so for the 1st time actually thoughts about it) dr said if ultimately no abortion, then no point in tests as if have poor nuchal result will casue unnecessary worry and possibly lead to invasive testing) blah blah. Just hope the exhaustion lifts enough for me to tidy house in time for dh coming home at weekend. No school tomorrow, so in a way that'll be easier as ds1 & 2 can help keep ds3 occupied and I night even get a nap.

Thanks.

Rolf · 07/11/2007 18:52

Deb and Ernest - I know where you're coming from. I'm 36 and will be 37 by the time June is here. I had lots of scans with DD and they found a brain abnormality that is a marker for Edwards syndrome, and I was offered an amnio. We declined but it really blighted the rest of the pregnancy. Needless to say, DD is absolutely fine.

I'm not going to have any of the extra tests. My approach is to have the standard scans at 12 and 20 weeks on the basis that they are there to keep me and the baby safe. But tests with any other agenda behind them are off the table for me.

It's very easy to get into a frenzy of worry and was the main thing putting me off ttc at all.

It must to tough for you without your Dh aroud, Ernest. Although my DH is being such a pain today that I would find things much easier if he was in Milan too

josey · 07/11/2007 18:54

Debs I went by the instruction on the mothercare website easy enough to follow if you have a tape.
I got hips prganic booklet at my booking in today and they do a fennel tea for MS might be worth looking out for for those who are seriously suffering

GardenAngel4 · 07/11/2007 20:51

ernest I echo what everyone else has said and I also empathise. I was shocked at how worrying I found the whole pregnancy thing, not the blooming, joyous, skipping through tulips experience I had imagined it to be. I will be 36 in June and can't help feeling I've used all my luck up. I think rolf you have the right idea and I think I may follow you. I was wondering about nuchal folds this time around (missed it last time, because didn't know about 13 wk deadline), but now am beginning to think what's the point, because we would still go ahead whatever. ernest keep in touch and we will all support you! We'll get through to June together!

josey nice to hear that raspberry leaf tea did work for someone - I drank bucket loads of the stuff and it didn't help!

looneytune · 07/11/2007 21:49

Sorry, still haven't managed to look through the thread to catch up so will have to keep this very generalised - blame it on extreme tiredness, at least it's only 3 under 5's tomorrow and not 4 - although I have baby staying overnight again this week so she'll be here from 8.15am tomorrow til 6pm on Friday - looking forward to the weekend when I can actually nap in the afternoon when I get really tired (I think today was my worst tiredness day - had to pop to the loo for a cry I was that knackered and wanted to sleep )

I've scrolled through very quickly.....

G43 - pleased the scan went well - how funny about the bottom wriggling and trying to get a pic

Hope everyone else is ok Has everone who had bleeding been ok recently? Mine's pretty much stopped, had a bit on Monday after straining on the loo and then pain all day but woke up yesterday fine again and nothing since. I'm taking the EXTREME hunger (i.e. waking in the night for food) and tiredness as being good signs (you see, I'm trying to be positive and think myself lucky about not feeling sick!)

Home Births - I saw a couple mention them.....I put a thread about this in the childbirth section due to my dh being a bit worried about it. He's fine about it now and says it's up to me. So unless there are any problems that stop me, I'll be having a home birth this time round

Tests - dh and I have JUST had the conversation about this. He thinks we should have the nuchal screaning scan and take it from there. He was pretty clear what he'd want to happen if there were signs of a problem but what if it was ok - these tests aren't accurate are they? We have to pay about £100 for the scan here, is anyone else having it?

Right, I'm off to bed. Sorry I've not been around much but with all the kiddies plus paperwork and training to sort out, I'm just too knackered atm - hope it settles soon.

Hope those who've been really sick, start to feel better soon!

LT xx

TwilightSurfer · 07/11/2007 22:41

Hello everyone. Much impressed with all the good scan pics and positive medical visits. Sounds like we should start a Geriatric Pregnancy Club...I'll be 37 when June comes around. Can't say I'm interested in all the testing. Things like that don't help a worrier. Plus this has already been a scary pregnacy anyway.

Bleeding has slowed a bit, which is good. However, I woke this morning with that dreaded "i'm not pregnant anymore" feeling...even my tummy felt soft. That passed though. After about 15 minutes of shopping I started to feel bloated and uncomfortable again. Could barely keep my eyes open once I made it home...naps are REQUIRED NOW.

New book is taking longer to read than it should because I'm so tired and have no time. I still like it. Being present in the moment is discussed over and over. Not feeling guilty is another piece...if you yell (like a crazy rant) at your child don't dwell on the wrongness of the action, try to learn from it and be mindful not to react in the same manner. "Realise that you have the power to choose your emotional responses - stressed and irritated or spacious and accepting." It actually came in handy today as DD had massive meltdown when I picked her up from preschool. For once I didn't feel like the Wicked Witch of the West when the tantrum was over.

debinaustria · 08/11/2007 06:30

Morning everyone, how are you all this morning?

I like the idea of the geriatric Pregnancy club - but I think I'm the oldest - do I get a special comfy chair?

OP posts:
libralady · 08/11/2007 06:32

I thinl I'm fighting you for that one Debs. I'm 38. How old are you?

debinaustria · 08/11/2007 06:59

38 LL, will be 39 on Dec 23rd!! So who is the oldest then?

Deb

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 08/11/2007 07:03

Ernest, sorry you're worried but best thing to do is focus on the chances of everything being OK, which are still very high. On the screening tests, I thought about getting the nuchal fold one done but I wouldn't go for amnio anyway even if it came up high risk - I would be unlikely to terminate anyway, and so don't want to take the miscarriage chance with amnio - also would only cause arguments with dp if higher risk as we have a v. different stance on this - so decided that the nuchal one would only be a worry if it came up higher risk anyway, and we wouldn't gain anything from it. I figure having a child is a risky endeavour whichever way you go about it, you can have all the screening tests in the world then something else shows up when they're born or after, and it just comes with the territory. (I'm 34 btw, will be 35 when baby is born.)

Dreamt about scan last night - or rather dreamt about waiting forever for scan - for so long that I woke up before we got in the room - hope it's not an omen, nothing worse than having to wait around with a full bladder! urgh not looking forward to that bit! Will check in later and let you know how it goes.

ernest · 08/11/2007 08:28

morning. sa, that reminds me when I went to the epu with heavy bleeding with ds1. They told me to make sure I had a full bladder for the transvaginal scan. So I drank oads, then had to wait ages . Typical. I was really tearful, obviously sure I'd lost my pfb. The sonographer strated the scan and took a sharp intake of breath. SO I was obv. very scared and she announced, all seems fine, but that's the BIGGEST bladder I've ever seen in my life. Would you care to go to the toilet and we'll carry on again after

I'm feeling a bit better this morning. Had a long sleep. And a lie in cos the boys don't have school today. Will try not to worry (for the next 7 months) but it is not my forte. Dh living in a foreign country and under pressure to emigrate again which I don't want to, coping alone with 3 kids, only seeing dh at the weekend it's all just too much. but now I've had my sleep i've got my positive hat on

sophiewd · 08/11/2007 09:16

Morning everyone, really do feel like this is the older mothers group. I will be 38 in February.

Lonney, shocked that you have to pay for the test, saw midwife last week and everyone here gets the NT test regardless of age which is why I am glad I went early to see her so she could book scan, it is in local hosptial rather than Salisbury.

looneytune · 08/11/2007 09:22

Morning all

Thought I'd pop on whilst I wait for baby mindee to turn up (should have been here an hour ago).

Really, some of you don't have to pay Tbh, I'm not sure I want it now, I just can't think but I need to as it's not that long until it would need doing. Just wish dh wasn't so sure he wants to know

Libralady - I want to ask you a question about the redundancy procedure at dh's work, how can I contact you or should I ask on here?

ernest - agree you should try not to worry but I know it hard, I'm a born worrier!!

systemsaddict · 08/11/2007 12:22

ChinaSurprise · 08/11/2007 12:33

Morning all
Off work sick with earache which I haven't had since I was about eight so feeling pretty awful.
I was wondering about DS scan too, but it's more than £200 here and we just can't afford it. Plus I wouldn't want amnio anyway due to mc risk. Am 32 and will be 33 when baba is born so think I shouldn't worry too much anyway, but I've got friends who were 37 and 43 when they had their kids and both were totally fine. I don't think either of them bothered with the tests.
Have got my follow up scan on Monday after the EPU one and feel I'll be able to tell a few more people if all is well. A friend who's had IVF to conceive (she's menopausal at 32) is having her scan today and if she gets the all clear am going to tell her - v excited!

ChinaSurprise · 08/11/2007 12:35

SA good to hear your happy news too. Am 9+4 today and can't wait for the first round number on Sunday!

josey · 08/11/2007 12:50
