Josie57 - if it's your heels particularly that are dry, there's some stuff called Flexitol Heel Balm you can get from Boots that does the trick - it's industrial strength but really works! I think it's Australian.

Try this link

nh101andhertwinbeans · 04/12/2007 16:08

Litllemy - I think you have made the right decision, especially re Edward's. To think a baby might die at a month old... it would be crueller to continue with the pregnancy.

You and your LO will be fine!

I reckon these 1:7 odds etc are measured on the "generous" side anyway ie. 1:7 might actually be 1:25 but they just can't be sure cos how can they be just from the amount of skin on a foetus's neck? It's mad. Good luck and thinking of you. x

Josie57 - I use "this stuff" from Boots

Baby's in bed (yay!), DH is away (boo), dinner's in the oven (yay!) - just managed to look at scan pics from yesterday without crying, and feeling sure that everything is going to be ok - it's the only way to cope!

Could murder a glass of wine, though. What do other people think about alcohol in pregnancy now that the NICE guidelines say one unit a day after the first trimester?

(Not sure I could really do it in the light of current events, but wondered what people's opinion was in general )

sophiewd · 04/12/2007 20:23

Littlemy - good luck with Thursday

Everyone else hope you are all well, tis cookery schoool tonight but DH is doing the teaching cos they wanted pies. I am feeling OK, appetite is a bit hit and miss and the thought of bread before 1pm makes me fell ill. Looking forward to the scan next week when my husband will be able to say I told you so when we discover that I am not carrying twins, having convinced myself for some reason that I am

LittleMy34 · 04/12/2007 20:33

ooo, sophiewd, where's your cookery school? I like pies.

I was the same, convinced it was twins because I felt so awful! Just the one baby though, in the end. Probably a good thing.....DS1 is enough of a handful on his own.

debinaustria · 04/12/2007 20:34

littlemy sorry your Dh is away, are you having something nice for your tea?
Re alcohol, I've had half a glass of v weak shandy so far, but at Christmas I'm going to have a Baileys on Christmas eve and definitely half a glass of wine with Christmas dinner!!

Sophie is your DH a professional chef then? So why are you so convinced that you're carrying twins? It's cereals that I can't cope with in the mornings!

LittleMy34 · 04/12/2007 20:37

Funnily enough, I had pie for tea. Roast chicken pie, basically all the sunday roast leftovers with a pastry lid. YUM.

But I'm going to need another snack before bed, I'm just an eating monster at the moment.

debinaustria · 04/12/2007 20:38

I'm eating loads too at the moment - making up for lost time I think

sophiewd · 04/12/2007 22:01

No nothing like that, my sister and a friend of ours come round once a fortnight because they are both not good cooks and want to expand their repertoir, DH doesn't cook alot but he makes a mean pie.

Josie57 · 05/12/2007 11:34

Hello All,

I was hoping to be posting with good news today but things aren't looking so great. I've just been for my scan and the nuchal fold test came back as 3.1 which just pushes us into the high risk category. Coupled with my grand old age of 35 and a vaginal bleed the midwife and sonographer were concerned enough to phone straight through to our local big hospital to set up an appointment with the consultant. My other worry was that the baby didn't move during the whole scan which just seemed so unnatural as my ds was such a wriggler. Feeling a bit shell shocked by it all but trying not to worry excessively (who am I kidding) before we get our blood tests back on either Friday or Monday. Not sure what I am going to do in the meantime, my parents are due to arrive tonight and much as I love them I really don't feel like seeing anyone at the moment. At least they might take my mind off things....

debinaustria · 05/12/2007 12:09

Oh Josie I'm sorry to hear your news ,but it sounds like they want to make sure you and baby are well looked after , getting you a consultant appointment. I suppose it's a waste of time saying don't worry until you get your blood results back!!
As for baby not moving - it was probably just asleep.

Do your parents know you were having the scan today? I know you don't feel like seeing anyone but it might be just what you need.

[hugs]

Deb

Josie57 I'm sorry to hear your results weren't great. Don't worry about the baby not moving it was just sleeping, mine was like that during the last scan which wasn't suprising as it ad been disco dancing like crazy just a few minutes before and must have tired it's little self out!

ernest · 05/12/2007 12:57

josie, so sorry to read this. when will you see the consultant, do you know? What a nightmare. About the lack of movement could the baby not just have been asleep? Did they listen to he heart beat? Did they comment on the movement or not say anything? Don't go on about being 35 tho - I'm feeling rather shakey about being 37.

Dunno what it is, but I also have a bad feeling about my scan tomorrow. I'm not going to have the nuchal test. I've just had a feeling of doom for the last few days, don't know why, and had a really terrible tummy ache last night and it even woke me up at about 5 ish so feeling crap today. will be glad
to get the scan over and done with.

ernest · 05/12/2007 13:06

just seen the other answers - great mind think alike and all that. titch was just sleeping.

We're painting shopping bags for rellies' Christmas presents this afternoon. Should be fun. They're like demanding little birds in a nest. phew

Josie57 · 05/12/2007 13:15

Hi Guys,

THanks for your kind words - it is so good to talk to you all. The sonographer said the baby was fast asleep but I didn't know if she was being a bit kind saying this given that she had just done the NT test. So it's made me feel a lot better knowing that this is quite a common thing.

I'm still waiting for a phone call from the consultant, so I have my mobile permanently glued to me - even whilst in the toilet!

My parents know I was having the scan today and are really excited about seeing the photo's so it will be hard telling them but I don't think I can not tell them.

Oh well, I feel better now than I did 2 hours ago so hopefully it will last.

sophiewd · 05/12/2007 13:24

Josie if I remember rightly DD was extremely inactive all the way through pregnancy and for scans so you could be lucky and have a very laid back little person in there.

LittleMy34 · 05/12/2007 13:40

So sorry to hear about your results josie57, I know it sounds ridiculous to say don't worry but it might all be nothing.

I've been looking up all the evidence on nuchal measurements, given our mega 4.8mm score, and even high measurements still only bump up the likelihood of problems by a small amount.

They just classify everything over a certain amount as high risk because by doing further tests on all those over that amount, they know that the odds are they'll pick up 90% of babies with problems. BUT - this is the important bit - they will also test an awful lot of babies who have no problems whatsoever!

Wishing you all the best for those blood test results, hang in there

Rolf · 05/12/2007 13:58

So sorry to hear about this Josie. I can only echo what the others have said, and I agree that the baby was probably just having a sleep.

katyjo · 05/12/2007 14:22

Josie, I'm really sorry you're going through such a rough time. Just try to remember that the majority of the time there's no problem, I'm sure that it will be that way for you. It's good that they are rfering you, at least you'll get the best people looking at your results.

josey · 05/12/2007 15:17

Josie really sorry about your scan, re baby not moving I never saw DS move I had lots of late scans with him as well due to problems and he didnt even move a had or foot then, he still is a lazy wee so and so!
Its good that they are taking care of you hope you get to see your consultant soon and the blood tests have better news. A big hug from your mum will help im sure.

I have scan tomorrow and DH's work have kept him home, they new I was pg incase of emergancy and they asked yesterday when scan was as DH was due to go, so Im really pleased as he can drive now lol no thats not the only reason.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

debinaustria · 05/12/2007 16:01

Josey that's good news about your dh being there for you tomorrow - good luck!!

And good Luck Littlemy34 with your tests tomorrow

Upsidedowncake · 05/12/2007 19:59

Sorry to hear your news, Josie. But good luck for your appointment. agree with what everyone has said particularly Littlemy. It sounds like they just want to look after you properly.

Littlemy - good luck for tomorrow.

Ernest - hope your scan goes well

My scan on 13 December. DH comes back from Chicago that morning ... Now getting nervous, which I never was with ds1. I guess I know so much more now.

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 06:20
