josey · 03/12/2007 10:29

Debs she isnt hear yet my sil is driving her they didnt leave till 9.30 so getting a break till lunch time!

Josie I have my scan on Thursday.

Im not too good today last night I had funny staining on my knickers and I was woken at 12.30 by DD only to start being violently sick I had to sit on the stairs eating gingernuts so I could try and go back to bed and not wake the house. Oh well must get on, was trying to book a tesco slot today for 23rd Dec and they are all gone already 24th up tomorrow so will try and be in with a chance. Does anyone know does the next day appear at midnight?

ernest · 03/12/2007 10:45

I've go tmy nxt scan on Thursady. Too soon to tell gender?

josey · 03/12/2007 10:51

Ernest think 14-16 weeks is the soonest you will see anything

debinaustria · 03/12/2007 10:56

How exciting 3 scans this week,

Josey sorry to hear you've not been well, how are you feeling this morning? Did you eat anything dodgy last night? Any more staining in knickers?

Debs still feeling like deaths door but no where near as bad as last night, I didnt have anything dodgy for tea, though I didnt eat after it and I usually have something so wonder if thats why, also fruit and veg is making me really sick why I have no idea and i did eat quite a bit of veg.
No other staining thank god, trying not to think about it will just see what they say Thursday, I had it before with DS but its always a shock.

sophiewd · 03/12/2007 11:06

Josey, Tescos not delivering 24th there is another thread about it, and someone rang to check

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 11:23

ernest before 16 weeks it will be too soon to see. The baby I mc'd in July was 16 weeks and even when he was born the dr couldn't confirm 100% he was a boy. I am going to ask at next next scan though which will be 15+6 though I'm not really going to expect them to be able to tell me.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 11:38

josey I hope you start feeling better soon and manage to get your tesco shopping slot.

We didn't have a great weekend. We have a big dent and loads of scratches in one of our car doors thanks to our neighbours parking in an akwards place but mainly due to dp's stubborness for not letting me ask them to move it! We bought a real christmas tree from B&Q and when we were choosing which one we wnated I found a squashed Robin between two trees - poor Robin and UCK!!!! DD1 lost the key to her bike lock this morning, luckily the chain is only on her blike and wasn't chanied to a post but still it's in an akward place. Moan over!
I feel fine and baby is very active so I hace something to be thankful for! I have also bought all of the girls christmas presents. I relented and bought DD1 a DS, well I used her money so really it's a present for her from her! I got a package deal with a game I wanted so it was a good deal for me too. I only have DP and my mum to buy for which should be easy as I already know what to get DP. He can sort out his family this year as I've had enough. DP is going away at the weekend so he really should getr started as he doens't have much time left!

LittleMy34 · 03/12/2007 12:17

So hello all,

Not a good day today, just had our scan and we have a high risk of Down's Syndrome (1:24) based on a very high nuchal measurement (4.8mm - apparently about 3mm is the upper limit of normal?), which means even if the baby doesn't have Down's there's also a risk of congenital heart defects and all sorts of other things. Feeling a bit numb but have booked to have CVS on Thursday (Chorionic Villus Sampling) - has anyone else had this before? Even if no Down's we'll have to have a heart scan at about 20 weeks I think.

The consultant doing the scan only let us hear the heart beat for a split second before he turned it off, so now I'm really worried that the heartbeat wasn't normal and he's not telling us. Anyone got any thoughts or experience of similar problems?

We both want to know for sure about Down's as we don't feel that we can spend the whole pregnancy worrying about it, but really scared about what we do if the results aren't good.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 12:32

LittleMy34 I'm so sorry to hear your results weren't good. There is still a 96% chance that your baby won't have DS but I understand you still have fears about heart problems. On the positive side the dr's know you are at risk so will monitor you and the baby closely and if there are any heart problems at least the dr's will be able to sort out a plan of action very quickly. My newphew had a heart defect which wasn't picked up until he was a few months old and he was late reaching his milestones. They operated on his heart when he was around 2 and SIL said she really hadn't realised how ill he was until his heart was repaired because he was suddenly full of energy. The earlier thay know about these problems the sooner they can be sorted but obviously I am hoping that you will not have to go through any of the heartache and your baby is fit and well. I'm sure there are others who have had the same sort of result as you.

Upsidedowncake · 03/12/2007 12:36

I'm so sorry Littlemy34. You must be so worried and stressed. I can't help you with first hand CVS, I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone, even if not on this thread, can.

[hugs]

LittleMy34 · 03/12/2007 12:44

Thanks christmaspuddings, I keep telling myself that the odds are still quite good, but can't help feeling that such a high measurement, plus the consultant not letting us hear the heartbeat, means that there is definitely something wrong with the baby, even if it's not Downs. Have been feeling really unconnected with this pregnancy so far and although seeing the baby on the screen was really amazing I don't know if I feel the same as I did with DS1 - I'm worried that deep down I know that this baby isn't going to make it. Sounds awful to be talking like this but I need to say it to someone.

LittleMy34 · 03/12/2007 12:53

Thanks for the hugs UpsideDowncake. all much appreciated.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 13:09

Littlemy, really don't panic about not hearing the heartbeat for long the dr may have got all of the info he needed and probably didn't think how it would make you feel being so abrupt, he was probably also looking for the blood flow rate which would have been on screen rather than listening to the sound and may have swithced it off as it was unessecary to have it on.
Alot of people find it hard to bond with the baby especially during the early stages of pregnancy so try not to worry about that either.

I know you're right, just doing what I usually do and thinking too much about things! Thanks for supportive words, will try and keep positive until CVS test on Thursday.

Rolf · 03/12/2007 13:23

How scary for you, Littlemy. I really wouldn't worry about the Dr turning off the sound - I agree with G43.

There are threads all over Mumsnet (including one of mine) about pregnancies being blighted by worrying measurements on scans. A large proportion of those babies end up being perfectly fine.

Remember all babies develop differently and different bits can develop in a way and at a pace that's outside the norm but quite normal for that individual baby.

The measuremnets are miniscule and when you take into account human error/the angle of the baby/different machines etc etc it's not surprising that so many frightened parents end up with a healthy baby.

I know this probably isn't any comfort to you and I honestly know how terrifying the unknown and your imagination can be. Thinking of you.

x

LittleMy34 · 03/12/2007 13:45

It is comforting Rolf, thank you - must hold on to the thought of all the cases where the measurements have proved misleading. DS1 was such a textbook pregnancy that I think I was expecting that the second time around.

Upsidedowncake · 03/12/2007 13:47

Agree totally with Rolf. To give you an example of dodgy measurements, my six-week scan showed the baby as 2mm long when it should have been about 6-9mm!

As reassurance, could you ask a midwife / GP to listen to the heartbeat before Thursday?

Good luck.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 13:49

Also agree about the dodgy measurements when I was 32 weeks pgregnant with dd1 her head measured the size of a 42 week old yet when she was born at 38 weeks it was on the 25th centile so the sonographer made a huge mistake.

LittleMy34 · 03/12/2007 13:58

I do sometimes wonder whether all these tests are a good thing......

Upsidedowncake · 03/12/2007 14:00

bleurgh. Am feeling so sick again. Still haven't thrown up but just awful GREYYYY feeling.

Did anyone have any views about late MS and late babies? Yehudi Gordon says that babies are late because they are not ready to be born. Ds was over 2 weeks late (and then took three days to be induced!)and I had the same pattern of late MS (8 weeks to 14 weeks). Am I in for another 42 week pregnancy?

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 03/12/2007 14:02

I was sick with dd2 until 18 weeks and she was 2 days late, not sick with dd1 and she was 2 weeks early. I don't think it was connected.
