I am so tickled to start this thread! I have just found out today that I am pregnant with no. 2 after 8mths of trying. My DH doesn't want me to tell anyone yet but you guys are alright I reckon!

DS is 21mths. I am in Sydney and while v excited having a baby in Australia will be a new experience for me as I had the last one in Germany. This time I am over 35, so there are all the questions about tests etc. Also DS was 5 weeks early, but was trying to get out from about 25 weeks, so I spent three weeks in hospital and the rest of the pregnancy on medication. I hope I can avoid any complications during pregnancy this time.

So who else is out there expecting a July baby?

Some good news from me though. My pregnancy is confirmed! 6 weeks tomorrow This is my 3rd. ds is 5 1/2 and has mild autism. dd is 2 1/2... can't believe she is going to be a big sister.

Now I need to think about when to tell dh and see if I can keep a secret till the 17th. That's when he gets the all clear about his job - its just a formality really but I wasn't supposed to be getting pregnant till then... opps!

I am posting on the Aug thread too as I am likely to have the baby then and am the last one due here so want to know some people over there too.

Fab news Eulalia!

Aussiesim, as someone who had to leave a thread (due March 2005) due to miscarriage sadly I can confirm that it is quite normal to have a few who don't make it. I think that statistically 1 in 3 pregnancies end in early miscarriages, and whereas in the past women just thought their period was a bit late, nowadays with the early pregnancy tests you can get, we realise that they are actually miscarriages.
Hugs to those who have had to leave and let's hope the rest of us manage to keep going!

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 13:48

sorry to hear your news cosybear. hooray to eulalia.

i'm almost 9 weeks now. waistline defintely expanding. i work part-time, but haven't told work yet so am desperately searching my wardrobe for flattering clothes that still fit. but i fear everyone will blow my cover when i don't drink at the christmas party next week.

i'm a bit less weepy, but still inclined to burst into tears much more than normal. dp says i'm being unpredictable, i just like to keep him on his toes..... boobs still hurt, & i've got that strange too-much-saliva thing. but nothing new to report on the symptoms front really. i know i'm lucky not to get sick at all, but i do sometimes think it would be a little bit reassuring.

i went to see the diabetes team this week, & they have agreed i can ring them up rather than go & see them every 2 weeks. hooray. poor ds has been so patient but i think he's had enough of hospital waiting rooms already. oh yes, & the antenatal clinic managed really wind me up by writing to say i had an atypical antibody which needed investigation. no more details, but i spent the day really freaking out that i had hiv or something. it turned out to be nothing, a slightly unusual type of clotting factor (none of the drs seemed to understand either....), but was an unpleasant few hours.

PamiNativity · 03/12/2004 14:17

HT, I'm in my 9th week and also feeling v fat around the waist. I've got 2 Xmas parties and 2 lunches in the next fortnight, and am going to have to be v sneaky about not drinking.
Dh took my referral letter along to my chosen hospital today and they have agreed to let me go there. I'm out of area and it's really oversubscribed, so they usually turn people down, but if you go in person and have a good reason (eg having already had 2 babies there!) then they are more sympathetic. It's a big relief.

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 14:51

it's such a relief to get into the hospital of your choice isn't it P-nativity (these xmas names are driving me mad!!)? i'm going to my local one this time, rather than one on the other side of london, & it's so easy to drive there in 10 minutes.

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 14:51

ps my dp thinks he is going to glastonbury next year, when i'll be 37 weeks. how wrong can 1 man be???

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 14:52

that was apropos of nothing, but i suddenly remembered!

PamiNativity · 03/12/2004 14:54

Absolutely, HT! This one is a bit further away than my nearest hospital, but I'm so familiar with the system there, having been there twice already, that I couldn't bear having to start from scratch at a new hospital. Have to say that the idea of my own en-suite room is a big factor! Also, I had dd2 in the midwife-led suite there last year and it was fab, so I really want to do that again.
Which hospital are you going to? I'm going to be at Kingston.

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 15:07

I'm going to the Homerton this time. Had ds at St Mary's 3 years ago. They were very nice, but it felt pretty ramshackle & was a real pain for us to get to. The Homerton is much smarter though they seem more disorganised so far....

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 15:49

oh dear, i seem to be hogging this thread somewhat. but have just remembered, i have gone off chocolate. well not entirely (that would be weird), but normally i can't get enough, & am being quite cool about it at the moment. very strange....

Sorry to see the news of all our losses. I'm wishing you strength ladies.

I have got in at Tommy's from outside the catchement area. It's not so brilliant. but it suits our planned move. We have accepted an offer on our place and hope to move in February.

I have a booking in appt next Tuesday (when I will be 10+0). I can't wait for a scan either. AM dying to tell people. It's torture pretending not to be sick or shattered, when I am, got to rush. Had a big dinner and uh-oh.....

lovinit · 04/12/2004 00:34

It is going to be soooo tricky avoiding Suspicions as we near the Silly season of Christmas ! I am usually the first to arange girls nights out on the town or get pissed at dinner and have a few cigs afterwards !

Any good ideas out there to avoid spilling the beans (as we are still early days ) ???

Also, no pate and soft cheeses and yummy foods !!!!

OzJo · 04/12/2004 01:49

Hi Folks, handy hints for avoiding alcohol to excess..antibiotics..feigning a tooth abcess which needs them. It'll work as a one off, really hard otherwise. Last pregnancy I was lucky as we hadn't long moved to Darwin, so it just seemed I was being a bit antisocial. I ended up telling the people we knew there as they knew what a beer monster I usually am. Re ciggies....fuck knows, I managed to give them up pre pregnancy...You can always fiegn a dose of flu and not go to one set of piss ups, be designated driver at another. It's so hard not telling people. I'm 10 weeks today, hangin out till Xmas to tell most folks, it'll scuttle my casual work when I tell them...it's mostly on a locked psychiatric ward, I'll be looking for work in a more sedate environment ( not a bad thing ).
Briefly nostalgic for London reading your posts about hospitals...miss the pubs, don't miss the prices and crowds.

pinkmama · 04/12/2004 09:59

Hi everyone, not been around for a few days as mum has been visiting and so sorry to come back to Anteaters and Cosybears sad news. Hope you two are doing ok.

I got away with not drinking this week by having ginless tonics! Although one of my close friends guessed last night, so I had to tell the other one, who said she had been admiring my rather new and stunning cleavage and was wondering! I planned to keep it secret but I am too much of a drinker to get away with it. there are only so many glasses and cigarettes I could refuse before being outed! Maybe now my close friends know they can help keep my pretense going by not tring to pour me yet another glass of cava.

Only 6 weeks today, feels such a long way to go, and very nervous. Not really enjoying it yet, too anxious!

Eulalia · 04/12/2004 11:32

Managed not to tell dh last night but think I'll have to soon as I am so tired and besides I want to of course. think I'll hang on till Fri. I got a Christmas card for Dad from the children and am going to also put down from 'baby on the way' or something as that would be a nice way of telling him.

How did everyone else tell their partners/dh's?

I've made woolly excuses about having family do's to get out of nights outs. Seems to have worked so far.

hoxtonturkey · 04/12/2004 14:08

i think that would be really sweet eulalia. i showed dp the test as soon as i had done it & we both cried....

frogs · 04/12/2004 16:45

hc -- just caught sight of your name here while doing a Last Day search.

Congratulations, congratulations!!! Very exciting, I'm so pleased for you.

hoxtonturkey · 04/12/2004 19:14

oh thank you frogs . would be nice to see you soon. xx

Eulalia · 05/12/2004 20:00

How is everyone feeling?

Still no symptoms from me except I had a really sore back yesterday, was sitting in an odd position and when I got up I was all stiff.... could be totally unrelated. I am going to get as much done round the house as poss this coming week as if it is like last time then the nausea will hit at 7 weeks. I've practically done all my Christmas shopping too after I got that very early result so may be organised for once! Although probably feeling crap over Christmas!

My baby is due 2 weeks before my birthday (my 40th! ) How's that for timing. I told dh I wanted another baby before I was 40.

AussieSim · 06/12/2004 02:51

10w3d Feeling tired. I think my DS's eczema is waking him up at night. I felt nauseous from Sat night till Sun night, but seem to have recovered now.

I have my first clinic at the hospital on Tuesday which I am excited and anxious about. My NTS scan is on the 22nd when I will be 12w6d and I am worried that if the result is not good I may have missed the window for the CVS.

I bought my first new maternity outfit on the weekend, not that people who don't know me can tell I am pregnant - they probably just think I'm a lazy cow who hasn't lost weight since I had DS nearly 2 years ago.

OzJo · 06/12/2004 07:55

Eulalia, how on earth do you manage not to tell! I wouldn't have that self control. AussieSim, hope your appt goes Ok tomorow, I've got mine Weds, will book the ultrasound from there ( booking one in advance of this appt seeming to dwel in the land of utter impossibility for the Royal Hobart Hospital ) What's the time limit on CVS? Too much to worry about, found out I'm ruebella immune, which was a relief as I've been paranoid about all things viral since the slap cheek scare.
Otherwise, tired, vacant at work, expanding belly & boobs...shrinking brain...

MommyD · 06/12/2004 11:48

Hello all - Hope you are all feeling well Grin
I am just entering week eight and boy do I feel dreadful. This is new to me! With both my dss I had no sickness or tiredness in the first trimester. I have felt horribly sick for 4 days solid now (worse in the evenings and if I wake up at night). What a shock to the system. Why this pregnancy???? This wasn't part of the deal. I don't suffer with morning sickness!! How horrible is it? Sad I have not yet been sick, but the nausea is overwhelming. Stuffing my face with food gives brief relief, but only brief. I am going to be the size of a house soon!! Grin

Any tips? (apart from never stopping eating?!)

MommyD · 06/12/2004 11:59

.... also I keep having this nagging feeling that I am having twins Shock It CANNOT be!!
Anyone else had a nagging feeling.... and BEEN RIGHT? I would rather be wrong - I already have ds1 2 and ds2 1...!

Tessiebear · 06/12/2004 12:03

MommyD (have been luking on this thread as i think my scan next week will put my due date into July) - had EXACTLY the same as you. With DS's i did have sickness a bit - but with this pregnancy my sickness has been in the evening and what seems like all through the middle of the night. I am afraid eating constantly was the only thing that really worked - although 2 weeks ago (8 Weeks) i invested in some of those travel bands that you wear round your wrists and work on your pressure points - and i am sure they have improved things. I wear them all day - only take them off for a bath and when i do take them off i really notice the difference. I am now 10 weeks and the sickness seems to be subsiding a bit - last night i had my first good nights sleep in weeks (wearing travel bands)
